OMG! I’m French and I would never have the idea to go to BHV to do my shopping. all the stores you've been to are super expensive and often for nothing. You can find cheaper in Paris, do not stay in tourist areas to buy food.
I just accidentally came across your channel and love your videos already. Not a lot of black female solo travelers so it’s nice to see. I head to Europe in 4 months!
I’m also a black girl in Paris. Marks and Spencer is great but expensive. Low cost stores in Paris: 1. Auchan is like Walmart 2. Action (similar to Target priced like Dollar tree/99 cents store) 3. Lidl for groceries. 4. Go to a bakery for a croissant and coffee for 2 euros.
You are vegan and apparently you go to the most trendy arrondissement (district) of paris where everything is expensive for average parisian. If you shop in a normal supermarket and cook, you spend less than 20 € a week. Especially since fruits and vegetables are cheap
Yes, there are certainly cheaper ways to live. I'm planning a video on cheap eats in Paris. But yeah, I live in an expensive neighborhood, and I don't really like to go too far from home for groceries. But other arrondimment are definitely cheaper.
Singapore is NOT expensive at all, at least for food and souvenirs. You go to Chinatown and eat at the hawker spots! I got a large laksa soup with prawns, mussles, the whole shebang for 6 SGD, which is about 4 USD. Maxwell Food Center!
I stayed in Paris for a month during the worst part of the Great American Recession. The dollar was so weak. So, I kept it poor-and-fabulous. I splurged on an amazing flat owned by a British Gallery Owner. My one major souvenir was a vintage 3-in-1 Le Creuset pot-pan-lid from the Marche Aux Puces. And I lived like I wasn't on vacation: Went to the local farmer's market, the bakeries, the supermarket and cooked almost everything in. I went out twice a week for a proper meal with my wife. Made some great local friends (luckily French is my colonial language). I really found the prices astounding at the time. Also, there idea of a "sale" was just not like American Sales...where everything goes down 75%-90% off. Still, I had an excellent time. And I really appreciated the pleasures of simply walking through the city, being a Flaneur, and gawking at the Boulevardiers...
Ha Yes!!! I love being a Flaneur! (which is basically just walking around without an agenda for those who don't know the french word) I was so happy when I learned this word and heard it's actually a thing here, because I love it. Also a Le Cruset pot!!!! How fancy and wonderful. Hopefully one day I'll have one too. And yes, it's good to live with a little balance here of going out and cooking too. I certainly do both. Paris has some wonderful restaurants, and some lovely grocery stores too lol
Hi I’m really enjoying your videos and I’m so happy to have found you. You’re a brave lady and remind me of myself when I was younger. I have subscribed to your channel and please be careful when traveling. I found Paris pretty safe but there were some weird guys that approached me there so just be aware. Greetings from New York City, happy travels stay safe and God bless and keep you protected, 🙏 Amen 🙏
haha yeah....the cookies were really good, but yep, kinda pricey. (the yogurts were just ok imo) There are cheaper ways to eat but those prices are very normal. I'll do a video soon on more budget meal options.
Prices in paris are way more expensive than in the rest of the country ! This shop has high prices because it's "BIO" it means it's healthy and there is no chemical transformation like dye, etc etc
French people do not live, shop or eat in tourist-trap areas! You should find a local person to guide you, as the places you've visited are all fancy, trendy places where we only occasionally go to for the fun of it. Try the "real" life in Paris, away from the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, etc. areas! PS: Marks & Spence is a great ... British chain!
Hi! I just found your channel today and I’m very excited. I’m coming to Pais in a few weeks. Were you able to do the video on cheap eats? I think I’ll need it!
Not yet. Been dealing with an illness shortly after filming this and had to pause my videos. But I still plan to film the cheap eats for Paris at some point.
Hi really like your vids they have an interesting point of view on how France is perceived and yes Paris is expensive for sure but gladly the rest of the country is not that harsh on you money wise. I live in Geneva Switzerland and it is quiet expensive here too 😂. Anyway if you wanna expend you’re horizons come and visit it is definitely not as big as Paris though and very different in many aspects...anyway keep up the good work with your vids... Bonne continuation et au plaisir de vous suivre sur TH-cam ! 😃
Hi just watched your channel for the first time, very enjoyable. I live in Paris as well and I find it to be fair in pricing if not better than in the US. You shopped in some expensive places. Marks and Spencer is very expensive and I would nt compare it to Traders Joes at all but thats my opinion. Carrefour would have been a better place to start if you went to a larger one you could easily have found your Mason Jars cheaper.Comparing prices and fresh produce with US is just not possible. California, my birth place, everything is grown within distance. Bien is an expensive store as well. There are places that are just as good if not better such as Natural or C'est Bon. When I first moved here i too was comparing to the US but this is France. Many of the vegtables and fruits are from, Spain, Africa, Morrorco and other Hot countries.
Roman what's the deal with the handsome Parisian that you serendipitously bumped into at lunch. Is he straight and single? I hope you exchanged info so you guys can meet up again. You can't have too many friends in Paris😏
LOL Yeah, he's a cutie right? And I was sooooo shocked to bump into him. We did connect on Facebook, but I'm not sure if he's straight or single. I think he's both but I'm not certain...
Rhhooo y'all making me blush :-D It was a lovely serendipity bumping into you there after Varkala. Hope Paris is being sweet to you, there's so much to love in that city beyond its obvious irritating aspects (most of which depend on the inhabitants, but they have a better heart than they usually display, as you know). By the way, you guessed right, I'm both indeed...well if you don't count my ongoing love affair with the Divine Mother haha.
Must be an eye-opener regarding cost for you. Marks and Spencer is a failing business in UK and closing down so many stores. ((Their food is good, but 20 years behind with clothes). Im no expert on food or indeed Paris, but the Sacre Coeur in Montmartre is a must see. Never venture to Pantain in North-east Paris. Not religion or race, just scary. Im a guy that has eaten McDonalds at Baltimore bus station, lived in Memphis for 13 years and none of that was so frightening when I visited Pantain to attend a concert at Zenith stadium. I so wish you well from Chiang Mai and in one week will walk tourhe bridge to Myanmar to renew visa, with your video in mind. Thank-you so much for informative, watchable videos.
Awww yay. So glad you're enjoying Chiang Mai btw. I miss it (although of course Paris is wonderful - but so different). And I hope you have a smooth and easy border crossing. If you're doing the typical border run, they may take you to a different crossing than the one I did to get to Yangon, but I hear it's usually really quick and easy. But wow, I didn't know Marks & Spencer was closing stores in the UK. And good to know about North-East Paris. I haven't been anywhere that felt really unsafe here and I'd like to keep it that way...
I don't mind the question at all. For my first year and 3 quarters of traveling I was spending money I saved when working. After that (for the past 6 months or so) I have a few different sources: I have a Patreon community that contributes to me and I create content just for them, I have a book on Amazon (Hollywood Insanity) that provides some income -not a ton, I freelance creating websites (though honestly finding clients can be a challenge), and I also receive help from loved ones. Going forward I want to find more ways to make money from my website and eventually from TH-cam ☺
Roman Around The World That's pretty awesome. I'm on a two week vacation right now so I'm always looking to see how I could extend my trip a little further each time. I've heard about making money through upwork and plan to do that and maybe teach or wwoof as well on the road. It's just nice to see that it can be done and that it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg to do. I'm reading Matt Kepnes' book as well for tips on how to save on traveling expenses, 'How to travel the world on $50 a day.' Ironically, I'm on a Europe trip myself right now haha!
@@romanlillie I love your style! You are such a wonderful person to honestly share your secrets with others as to how you afford to travel as you do. Continued success in your life and above all, safe journeys! You're so sweet. eHugs from the USA.
I have a question I will be in London next week, and I am planning to take the Eurostar to Paris for one day if that possible? I planning to take the early train out, I want to know what time the last train in Paris leave back to London ? anything will be helpful, Thanks in Advanced.
I work online, but I have a visa that allows me to work in France. I'm planning a video explaining more about visa stuff and my new connection to Paris.
Dear Roman, how can you make a comparison between cost of life between India and ... Paris!!!???? Then... of course if you go to fancy pricy grocery stores and cafes, you will never reach EUR 15 a day rather having high end wealthy rich parisian's lifestyle! The lunch's place is ok pricewise... but why going to places where you cannot have any idea of local cuisine ( I am vegetarian and it is possible!) rather than international trendy vegan cuisine you can find all over the world for guiris ( cynical spanish word for tourist)...Mark and Spencers , really? At least you have been to a ususal french supermarket....But in trhe end, what's the point to travel not to really see what's going on in a country at all levels? Any way, that's my point of view, safe travels!
68 $ for one day without hostel fees and lunch. And dinner is cooked in home.very weird.Even though you got satisfaction from that you always praising "western standards".You cannot have any complaints about paris standards because that standards doesnt allow your usual touristy reviews.Either you have to stay inside room do cooking or you have to spend lavish outside. Even you dont travelled much on local public transport. This is why i love my country india,it had numerous negatives ,scams ,dirt ,chaos etc ...it accomodates all .Even beggers and rich can live in that country. The lower middle class and middle class can easily use the public transport system(train ,bus etc)on a daily basis. (i think its impossible in western standards.). what you do today can easily do in a metro city in india with very little price. At least spent a begger class budget in paris here in india you can have decent life.
@pratheesh t_s You know nothing about france so you should stop your comparisons... You can't compare Paris with the rest of france (and western countries) Of course lot of things are differents, we don't live with 40€ for a month like indian people

Haha right?? It was a nice surprise to see him again.
I love seeing videos of Europe from American perspective.
expensive.. but there are far more pricey destinations than Paris, for instance Iceland :). and Norway too! nice video, thanks for sharing.
Uh oh. More expensive than here? I better watch out. I miss the prices from Thailand and India haha.

I'm going to Paris in Sept for the first time and I'm loving your tips about Paris! Thank you!

What are the odds - meeting a stranger I India and then meeting the same person in Europe, wow
That salad looked so delicious (6:02)! I am sure the prices were shocking!
Yes, it was so good! And yeah....coming from India...I've had a major shock with the prices here...
10 whole euros for yogurt and 2 cookies... yeah... France may have to wait for me right now.
haha yeah....the cookies were really good, but yep, kinda pricey. (the yogurts were just ok imo) There are cheaper ways to eat but those prices are very normal. I'll do a video soon on more budget meal options.

This is an organic (bio) shop in Paris.. you can't find pricier. I live in Strasbourg, France and we have the best food at the best price :)
Halona Black Lol! I know right?
I went as a child by myself and I survived with 200 US dollars groceries meals everything for 3 days that’s not that bad
When I was in Europe I only shopped at market’s much cheaper

J'ADOOOOOORE PARIS😘
That is because marks and Spencer’s is a expensive store
Nearly all of the stores are expensive!
Yes, she really doesn't know how to shop for food in Paris. I have been to Paris over a dozen times.
i think the most expensive cities are Zurich, Oslo, Reykjavik and New York.
Ur voice is so lovely aswell u look so 😍😍😍
dont stay in the real center of paris there are a lot of cheap stores in paris
Love your posts ❤️
Hi how many days did you went ?

I don't mind the question at all. For my first year and 3 quarters of traveling I was spending money I saved when working. your cooked food looks great! Paris is too expensive and I, personally, have no interest in going there ever. Go to Italy!!!
Thanks! And yeah, it's pricey. But there are some cheaper options. I'll make a video on that soon. But yes, I totally want to go to Italy too.
Best to live on bread and cheese in a country like France. Then there's money left over for wine.
I was just in London. The hostel a night was 30pounds!!!! Needless to say... I wasn't there for long. Now I am in Ukraine.
PS can we see more of your hottie friend on the channel. Please and thank you lol
Giiiiirl I hope you got his number!!!
hahaha. I connected with him on fb...
If you haven't already, check out Jermaine Ellis ... you two should be friends.
I enjoyed your video.
Did he visit u in usa? Hehe
Haha. He did not.
Can you use your card everywhere? Or should I take some euros in cash with me?
Mostly you can use card but it can be good to have some euros I think, especially if you want to buy like a print from a street vendor or something
You shop to fancy high end shops, BHV,, MS...And you said Paris is expensive????
Mais ne vas pas au bhv juste pour des pots !!!! C'est hors de prix le bhv !!
Ouais c'est vrai. mais le magasin est tres joli :)
@@romanlillie c'est vrai, moi aussi je craque souvent 😊
