    Great experience!
    I tasted only one bottle of Château Latour until now. It was a 2011. In fact, it was quite closed…on the nose and palate…but undoubtedly very elegant and profound.
    Cheers!

    Hello Trophy, thanks for sharing this experience and knowledge with us! Which first grow would you recommend to taste to someone who'd never tasted first grows before. I'm tending to haut brion, but would like to have your advice. Thanks in advance!

      Lars: thank you for viewing my video and your question. I think all of them are good so hard to answer this question. It would be based on what style of wine you like and what vintage.
      My suggestion is that you actually drink a lot of 2nd growths first before trying a first growth. If you have been drinking value Bordeaux wines and then all of the sudden you drink a first growth, it might be disappointing.
      So again, I would suggest that you are better off drinking like 5 or 6 second wines rather than 1 first growth. I would say most people who drink a first growth as a one off experience are mostly disapointed but if you have spend 10 years drinking second growths, you will really cherish the experience of a first growth. Hope this helps. Please like, subscribe and keep watching. Cheers!

    Hello Trophy, I would be interested in your opinion on the following question: If we talk about a certain vintage of a producer, can we say, that the same wine is in every single bottle? If they produce a certain amount of cases in a year, how does a winery get the complete vintageblend into one container before filling?? Cheers👋

    • @TrophyWineHunter
      @TrophyWineHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Piff Paff: great question and maybe those in the winemaking industry can comment but in my mind, you should be getting the same wine in every bottle of the vintage. With modern times, there are more and bigger vats so blending can be done simultaneously with different batches. They are then taste tasted for quality control so I don't think any variation should be distinguishable by a normal consumer. Please like, subscribe and keep watching. Cheers!

      @@TrophyWineHunter Thanks for answering Trophy. As we are looking for nuances in trophy and value wines, I think this might be an issue. I made the experience more than once, that the same vintage of the same producer can taste different, the only thing is I can not tell whether it comes from different circumstances while tasting or the wine itself. What made me curios is that in Germany there are producers, that split their entire vintage into different levels of winequality barrel by barrel, giving them one, two or tree stars, before finally botteling the wine. The Price then is different as well. As an example: Markus Molitor a well known German producer. Wish you happy drinking..Cheers👋

      @TrophyWineHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@piffpaff1482 wow...I have never thought about it that way but always assumed the difference was the circumstance (ie food pairing, etc.). I have never really experienced serious bottle variation and if there is variation, I can always explain by storage or other factors. Cheers!

    Never had a Latour since i'm on the beginning on my wine journey. I don't wanna rush to high end stuff too early.
    However i've find a bottle of Pontet-Canet 2009 that I will share with family on christmas.
    Very excited to taste it after having seen your 5th growth video.
    2009 is also an exceptionnal vintage for this wine.

    • @TrophyWineHunter
      @TrophyWineHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luca: I think you are taking the right approach. 2009 is a great bottle! But give it lots of aeration. 4 hours minimum. Let me know what you think of the wine. Cheers!

      @Luca-xj9cb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrophyWineHunter Would you decant (or caraffe) it or just open the bottle and let it breath ? I will share with you what i think of it ! Cheers

    • @TrophyWineHunter
      @TrophyWineHunter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Luca-xj9cb personally, I would decant for 3-4 hours. Slow ox only really works for older wines and for longer periods (like 12 hours). You can almost never over decant a 2009 Bordeaux at this point so even you left in decanting for 8 hours, it would be fine. It is not going to fade on you.
      Having said that some people like to open and drink to see the evolution from just opening to 6 hours later. Cheers!

    Thanks for the review. I have a case of Latour 08, bought en primeur I was very lucky as the price was much lower than usual due to the economic crisis at the time, and some critics doubting the vintage back then. So you think I should wait a few years before opening any? Or would a very long decant work as I’m dying to taste it! Thanks in advance

    • @TrophyWineHunter
      @TrophyWineHunter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      isabella: I bought like you en primeur because price was good and critics didn't like it too much. Looking back, I should have bought more. Depending on how bottles you have, life is short, so I would open a bottle one just to try. It is tasting OK after 4 hours of decanting but definitely will get better. But I like drinking wines young so I know how the progress. Please like, subscribe and keep watching. Cheers!

      @@TrophyWineHunter thank you, Will Subscribe for sure thank you. I have Pontet 09 which I’ve drank (amazing wine) and would be good to see if Latour 08 (albeit vintage not as good as 09) is much different in terms of it being a 1st Growth and Pontet 09 pretty much 1st growth quality :-)

    • @TrophyWineHunter
      @TrophyWineHunter  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@isabellamacaione7687 I agree...09 Pontet is amazing. I don't think Latour 08 at this point will be as good but it 20 years, it will be better than Pontet (in my opinion).
      2008 was actually not that bad a vintage. Every 2008 Bordeaux I have had has surprised on the upside (since my expectation is so low) and it actually is a great drinking vintage. I think critics underscored this vintage and in 10 years, it will still be drinking nicely. Cheers!

    Thanks for sharing the experience. Personally I have never had latour. I feel like latour and haut-brion are perhaps the less popular/known first growths among Asian people.

      Will: hard to say as my friend loves HB. I think each of the first growths have their fans and each cycles between being in and out of style. None of them are anything to complain about. Cheers!

    Nothing wrong with it, so 100 points plus points for individuality and character. Latour is always the greatest wine. Other wines are sometimes as good, too.\, of course. The point system is a mistake because great wines are really distinct, beyond expectation, and therefore point systems. Please! Your eye expressions tell the real story. Thanks you so much!

      nicholtime: thank you watching my video and your comment. You are right...you can actually tell lots of times what I really think by my expression...not much of a poker face.
      Latour is not really my type of wine. I respect its quality but don't love it or have an attachment. I know it is a great wine but this is just personal preference so I try to be as impartial as I can.

      He’s right, you need an incredible vintage to store a bottle past 25 years, you should drink that 94 soon as it may have already gone past peak. Should still be good enough to enjoy now though, but remember that it needs to be consumed rather quickly after it’s opened because a couple hours after opening on that vintage it will likely start to turn to vinegar

      I think, Tony has already given valuable answers. Elsewhere, at the comments and questions! In addition, there are also interesting tasting notes on 'cellar-tracker'. For example, if it is specific to Latour 1994. Latour is very consistant over the years. You can also read that in all the tasting notes. Even in a year that is not known as a great year! That is also my personal opinion. And further if you curious. Simply open the bottle. With a nice meat dish and in complete serenity. And do your own experiences! Cheers!

    Great video content.
    Question, Latour 2015 just got released in Canada Ontario for the price of $1530 cad per bottle. Knowing that it is a good vintage, don’t you think the price is too high? Is it worth to purchase for longterm hold and investments? Your insights are appreciated. Thanks

      SB: thanks for your continue support and your question. Really difficult as Latour is a great wine but prices are now so high. I would say if you have the means, you should buy it. Great wine and great vintage.
      For investments purposes, it is too high. It is really for drinking. If you are buying wines for investment, you should probably buy wines at auction or en primeur. Cheers!
