The SAIGON TOURISTS DON'T SEE: Ho Chi Minh City Like a Local, Vietnam 🇻🇳

- In this Vietnam travel vlog, I show you the Saigon most tourists don't see. This is exploring Ho Chi Minh City like a local. First, I check into my new Saigon hotel, Silverland Yen, then hop on a motorbike in search of some Banh Xeo, only to find the restaurant where Anthony Bourdain ate was closed. Out of the tourist zone in unfamiliar parts of Ho Chi Minh City, I meet friendly locals who are kind and engaging in my most memorable night in Vietnam.

Terry, your videos continue to show the joy and good side of humanity. There are a lot more kind and loving people throughout this world than the darkness is trying to swallow. Children are our most precious gift.
Such kind words, thank you Starr!
What nice words....very true!
@@georgeh1352 thank you, but it's true. There are many vloggers out there but Terry and Svetlogger are such lovely people and resonate with me very much. IMO, We need to showcase the amazing everyday people and stop giving energy to the evil and negativity of the entertainment industry.
@@Siri-Tahl Thank you my friends 🙏🏻

Hi, I’m Vietnamese and live in Florida, I’ve been watching your videos in VN, just letting you know that in VN, you can buy banh mi or other foods somewhere else and bring it to any coffee place and order drinks and eat there. No problem at all, I hope it helps:) have fun 😊
Hi Tina! That is good to know for my next trip thanks!
Man, your interaction with the kid and his mom is so heart warming!
Special connection with boy and mother...jerry Mcguire kid...you looked little sad leaving them.
Even with language barriers, you can connect with people through food, smiles and laughter. It's amazing
The kid is hilarious. You picked the right person to break bread with 😂
The mother is beautiful
I just want to let you know that I think it's amazing that you're sharing your world with everyone and that you're doing a great job! Thank you for this!
Thank you my friend and same to you! I hope to visit some of the amazing places you have been. Cheers!

Nice video showcasing the streets and people of Vietnam.
Excellent viewing. Thank you.
Lovely , thanks for the journey !
I really enjoyed the video, so much, thank you.❤
Your video is amazing, I will follow it next, waiting for the trip to Da Nang
Thanks Suong, I have one more Saigon video then working on editing the Da Nang trip. Stay tuned! And thanks
Just started watching awesome so far!
The Busy syreets looks like Times Square meets Bricjell Ave meets Revution Ave in Tijuana
This looks like such a wonderful trip. I’ve never known anyone to vacation in Vietnam. Thanks Terry. ❤❤
Thanks Vick! Hope your mom is feeling better! Sending thoughts, prayers and hugs.!
Hey there, are you filming with the DJI Osmo Pocket 3? If so, may I ask what settings as you videos look good!
Fantastic video. Thanks for getting out of the tourist areas. The blue sign at time 0:25 is not a street sign. It says it is a cultural area. These are typically alleys which are set aside for preservation. If you want a suggestion for a Vlog, try the rooftop bar in the old section of the Caravelle Hotel. It is a bar/restaurant with a lot of history and used to be a wild place. I haven’t been there in years and I heard it has been modernized and is a much more reserved place now.
Thanks for the insight IT Guy, great info and suggestion!
Always most impressed with how much you walk, and 2nd is your ' iron gut'! You literally can eat anything. It all looked good, but you just keep trying new interesting dishes!
Haha thanks Mac! As long as it ain't too spicey, sign me up!
@@BarefootVlogger the interaction with the kid and mom( who was cooking) was great! He was cracking us up!
I'll never forget this moment in time Mac, connecting with people I just met in a land far away. Thank you brother!
Terry just binging your Vietnam Series ! Awesome bro Keep them up! I am torn between Vietnam or Japan for Vacation this year! Thanks so much! Japan next Terry!
Yes Japan for sure brother can't wait. Thanks for the kind words and I say do both!
You really work hard on these videos the music the editing and what we most enjoy as your interaction with the locals not just tromping along looking at buildings... Really enjoy exploring & getting to know southeast Asia through your channel. The little boy in green was utterly charming 💚 We do miss Svetlana bring her on one of these evenings for a hello during your Saturday Night live stream 😌😏🤗
Thanks for the kind words Bev and a big hello from Svetvlogger!
Such a beautiful moment you had with the mother and son
Nice sharing. Very good video, thanks
Have a good day 💯
Thank you! 🙏
Great video! May I post a link to this on my SEA veterans FB group? I was never stationed in Nam, Thailand yes and I have always wanted to visit Vietnam to see the country and people.
Absolutely Jeff, thank you my friend! Thanks to them all for their service!
Asian hospitality is second to none. They sure know how to treat their guest.
Well said my friend
Thank you for sharing your journey and, in the process, we've come to love the people you meet the the friends you leave behind. May God continue to bless you with health and happiness.
That buffet was great See you when you get back to Florida!😊
Man I’ve been really enjoying your videos. I love how you interact with all the people you come across. My wife is Vietnamese and I haven’t been there yet, but soon we plan to go. It’s much more beautiful than I expected and the people so warm and friendly! Thank you for sharing with us!
Thank you my friend. It will be great for the two of you to go together and enjoy her homeland. I sure did.
you should know Pilipinos.
Amazing, what a great way to pass time.
Loved the entire video. Aloha from Hawaii. I would love to see Vietnam some day.
A very lively vlog :)
Another great locals only video. This is what separates you from the others.
So kind Rick thank you brother!
A year ago I up in north Vietnam on a bike tour and going around Hanoi the traffic was crazy, it was the horns that was something else, constant blasting non stop, seems the south is different sounds relatively quiet.
Beautiful video. Specially of the kid and the mother. You connected with them well and they are to remember you.
Thank you!
Love it, love it, love it. Ho Ch Minh City has got to go on my bucket list. Did a motorbike passenger ride in Bangkok (no helmets there), frightening!! Just love Asia, personal service second to none.
Love your videos, is the night so lively in Vietnam because it's too hot to be out during the day?
Thanks! I would say so. It was close to 39C during the day here
Terry looked a little nervous in scooters in Saigon than in Bangkok😂
I loved your interaction with the boy, so nice of you.
Hello from Pennsylvania USA
I had those 2 dishes in Philly USA, boy they were good & delicious and i am sure its better in Vietnam, thank you for sharing this Great video ❤
Always interesting watching your videos Terry keep up your good job, you are funny 👍😂
You look like Phil Goldberg 🤣
Thanks, never heard of him
30k for that long ass ride is crazy...that's normaly 60k-90k
Shredded Green papayas is very popular in Vietnamese salad that what you eat , the mix of green papaya and sauce made your fry taro flour less oily and enhance texture .
It was amazing.
Great video. I loved everything about it, especially seeing you with that "jerry maguire" kid and the lovely mom. I saw you got a little emotional when you walked away from them because you knew you were going to miss them.
I think you should go see them again and say Hi :), they would like that and life is too short to live with regrets.
Thank you my friend. I will certainly stop by to visit my friends next time I'm there.
@@BarefootVlogger Good ☺
ps: I know you like your beard, I like mine too but I know that Asians mostly prefer a clean shaved man and I think you also would look young and handsome without the beard. Try it out 😉
Haha Thanks for the kind words
Should contact some foreigners youtuber to help you to get around in Saigon
My mouth is watering…❤❤❤❤
Awesome pool..Ter...oh an welcome back to the good ol' USA
You have a great heart sir…made me tear up with that moment with the son…
Thank you 🙏
I like the vibe in HCM, and the people are nice too, always put on their smiles
Cool video! The Vietnamese people seem pretty cool almost like Filipinos. Hey, you must be from the Northeast because I caught that Anthony Martignetti, Prince spaghetti commercial reference when you were shouting out the window of your hotel..lol! Keep up the great work man. 👍
Thanks Mark, you are one of the few to get it. One of the all-time best commercials
Vietamese people seems so considerate. Lots of Yin we may embrace
They sure are
Awesome video. Bot chien has egg but it’s actually not for breakfast. It’s just a snack that can be eaten any time of day.
It reminded me of French Toast so maybe that's why it tasted like breakfast to me, but it should be enjoyed any time, it's great!
taro mixed with flour made into a cake-like and deep-fried until crispy and served with soy sauce and green papaya.
Thanks you ,for take a change to Vietnam
It's nice to see other cultures n how they live. So many focus on ourselves
Well said Krista
That kid made my day. Thank you
Terry, it's a great story telling I watch today, that's cool. and thumbs up to the movie Jerry Maguire kid, he is very cute.
Thanks Joe🙏
Nice video 😊 people were really nice and that scene with the young man was memorable! Be careful . I know that you really like motorcycles, motor scooters!😊 lol! Steven from Boston MA 🇺🇸☘️😎
Mr.Beast is also a very famous American youtuber in Vietnam 😄
Cool!
It’s fish sauce used all over Asia . Bring a supply of Cipro wide spectrum antibiotics . You will eventually get the runs especially if ice is not filtered purified .
Love love Vietnam! ❤
I’m Vietnamese and your videos make me feel free and peaceful ❤
That's a great compliment thank you my friend! 🙏
you should visit in the Philipines its more fun here see it and believe so many variety of paradice.
Welcome to VIỆT NAM, where i come from, now I’m AMERICAN and live in N.J . USA, just wanna say that you did a great job with your trip and video. In order to understand, see, know you have to enjoy every good thing small things and bad to , thank you for visit VIỆT NAM.
Well said Danny thank you brother! 🙏
one of the fun things about traveling is interacting with the locals.
The little boy said in viet that that was his plate. He’s so cute 😂
15:09 You were eating at a long time famous bánh cuốn restaurant (bánh cuốn Tây Hồ) established since 1961.
I can see why it is famous. The dish was amazing
what kind of sim card you used while in vietnam? if local where did you bought? did you exchange money at airport or outside airport?
No sim card. New iphone won't take one anyway has to be an e-sim. I just went right through T-mobile and it was fine.
You need track areas on google or ask some local people or hire scout local tour guide
Very nice videos and shares, thank you. From eastern Europe, türkiye 🇹🇷
I hope to visit Istanbul someday. Thanks!
Geez Terry..I think the last time I saw Sigon..was on the T.V. back in 75..lol.. Toronto Phil
Glad I could bring you there brother
Greatest!
How do you get best deals when travelling with hotels and flights
Plan and book in advance, use skyscanner, google flights apps for flights, agoda and priceline for hotels
interesting thanks . If you are there for Tet , this is a few months old :-)
am also a fan of the back streets , where the locals eat :-)
As for not knowing where you are , I had to use google maps :-)
Was trying to place where you were , then saw exhibit A :-)
Hotel is cool with the snacks etc , pool not huge , yet good enough for some exercise .
At last , you were in D1 :-)
Was in D3 March , yes did the walking street for old times sake :-)
Bought a cheap beer at the 711 and cruised . Yes , a bit loud :-)
And 30 k dong was a good price , was paying 25 k for a Banh Mi outside my hotel . 10k for a nice icecream cone :-)
I just did Buon Ma Thuot , Da Lat and Nha Trang this time .
itching to get back .
Tet is chaos and a little more expensive , did you not see firework displays ?
Where to next in Nam ?
I actually waited out Tet and stayed in Thailand because my understanding was most businesses would be closed. Next up Hanoi and northern Vn but I'd like to revisit when it's warmer
Damn the food looks good!..gimmy!😂
Love this. Nice edits as it makes me feel like I am you. So complete.
Thank you Meta 🙏
What a delight that you accidentally found bot chien walking around. That was my favorite street food growing up in Vietnam.
The flavors there are unbeatable. It must've been a cool place to grow up
@@BarefootVlogger It was very underdeveloped at the time but I'm glad to see that Vietnam seems to be growing very quickly and catching up with more developed countries now and welcoming more travelers into the culture.
There’s a great country between Thai and Vietnam that you should give a try. Very friendly people there
Cambodia is definitely on my list of places to visit. Stay tuned and thanks
Laos too!
I can tell you really love the Far Eastern Culture . You want even want to retire there , How is the car search I think the perfect sport car for you is low mile used Nissan 370Z for many reasons ...Two main reason are 2 seater sport cars are not in demand and a manual is not easy to sell . I got a great deal on an certified pre owned low mile BMW M235i because it was a manual they could not sell it it was great car,I have had several Z cars and they have all been great and so much fun to drive , with great style and design for the money. PS tip pretend you dont want manual that will get you abetter price
What does it cost to visit Ho Chi Minh City from the United States (Nevada)? Are nice hotels very expensive? Thank you 😊
I flew into Bangkok from Miami (with a stop in Doha, that video is on Patreon). From there I visited many cities in Thailand and flew from Phuket to HCM City. That flight was cheap, around $150 but it just depends on what time of year you are traveling. My advice is to check google flights or sky scanner and they can alert you when airfare prices drop. Hotels are very cheap here but range in price depending upon your category. I stayed in a hostel capsule for $20 but you can get a decent room for $30. Agoda is a good app that I use
@@BarefootVlogger Awesome! Thank you so much for the info
The Boy is verry cute😂
some of the bike drivers are nuts, this guy i hired near the hotel, he would stop in the middle of the busy street, with the trucks running near 1 feet of our bike, crazy
Hotel Prices ???
I was just thinking you look very rock and roll when you mentioned jasmine tea, and I thought of the Rolling Stones lyric "you drank my health in scented jasmine tea". Rock on Barefoot Vlogger!
Classic my friend, thank you
Hi Terry. You have a good trip around the low cost foods shop with many tasted foods . Good Luck . From Australia - Sydney
Glad you're enjoying it, thanks
How much your room cost
Is the barefoot blogger actually barefoot or is it just a name, wondering about broken glass on the walking street.
30,000 vnd is cheap bro. equal $1.25 usd. It is cheap in VN then other countries do enjoy and no complaints please
He did not complain 30k VND but 60k VND previously
BFV didn't complain..He had up most respect for everyone. He reminds me of my favorite travel host Anthony Bourdain.
Take mucho courage to cross a street in Vietnam...Plenty of cafe shops & massage for men to explore ...street food is the best...
With thirty thousand Vietnamese dong, you can take a motorbike taxi to go a long distance, so is the price cheap?
Watch the previous video where the guy charged me 60 thousand to go 4 blocks.
your videos make me sick Terry ....oh i mean homesick hahaha..Hello from Toronto
You scared me there lol. Go Leafs
I lived in Asia . Always hire a local to drive and show you around . Worth the investment. You can get kidnapped. Beaten or murdered besides ripped off .
👍👍🔥🔥
