  • A few days ago, I flew onboard British Airways flight BA490 from London Heathrow airport to Gibraltar. Unfortunately, just before landing, the strong wind coming from a not so ideal south-westerly direction forced the pilot to abort his landing attempt at one of Europe's most dangerous airports. At the time we were already only about 450ft from the ground. The decision was quickly made to divert to Málaga as the wind was not predicted to get any less anytime soon. This video shows the landing attempt at Gibraltar, when (from about the 0:40 mark) the cross-wind really started to become noticeable, and the aftermath of diverting and landing in Málaga airport. Though it was an unfortunate (and uncomfortable) experience, it certainly provided some great views of Gibraltar with the sun out and only a few clouds around. Once in Málaga, one went through border control and picked up any checked baggage just like one normally would. Buses were organised by BA to take us to Gibraltar with an estimated 1 hour wait time for the buses to arrive. If this was really the case I cannot confirm as some passengers opted for a quicker Uber ride and kindly offered me a ride too.
