    I took these suggestions/tips that you gave and used them EXACTLY as you do it in your company. We renovated our kitchen almost 2 years ago and these tips were a LIFE SAVER!!!!!! I also thought drilling the holes on the bottom of the base cabinet doors and on top of the wall cabinets was GENIUS and saved us LOADS OF TIME! 🙏🏽 THANK YOU

    Saving time? 1 dot for top, 2 dots for bottom inside the hinge hole. Forget "T" and "B". You're welcome everyone.

    That hanging Rack you're using looks exactly like a photographers backdrop stand. Portrait photographers use them to hang canvas backdrops for portraits. They are inexpensive and easily found used on eBay in the photography section. A lot less then what that company is selling it for. The hangers look like metal pant hangers that a dry cleaner would use.

      Photography backdrop stands don't have casters. And do backdrop stands support the weight of several hanging doors? I doubt it.

    You should have that company make a lazy susan type of rack for spraying them flat. I don't like the pin type because it might leave imprints on the back side. The advantage of spraying them flat is you can apply a heavier build. I don't like to poison myself shooting lacquer. The explosion factor also worries me. Also venting lacquer fumes can be an issue in the winter.

    Seems like you could use a hook that goes into the hole for the door hinge hardware.

    • @robertwood2379

      Really good painters know to use a small hook in the hinge holes, not make additional holes in brand new cabinets.

  • @andrewwalker208
    @andrewwalker208 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Rockler makes a product that goes in the concealed hinge hole and holds it up. However, in a production environment like yours that’s just one more thing you always have to buy and keep on hand. Also, I still use your method for drawer fronts, because I obviously don’t drill a concealed hinge hole in those.

    Thanks for another informative video Chris! I've learned a lot from you guys. Regardless of the painting project, I feel most customers of mine are uninformed and have no idea how much prep work goes into a job. I'm regularly competing against guys who low ball me, and I always tell my customers to make sure the prep work my competitor is including is similar, if they are doing any prep work at all. I've seen plenty of jobs where a painter didn't do any prep work and the customer felt like it was a good job until I point out the corners that were cut. I do pretty well when I walk a customer through all the prep work that's involved when explaining my estimate.

    Hello Chris,
    we typically use Benjamin Moore Advance or regular oil enamel from Benjamin Moore in order to paint our cabinet doors and we use a door rack painter system but I am quite curious as to the lacquer that you use for your cabinet doors. Is it a colored lacquer? And where can we purchase this colored lacquer 2 speed up our kitchen cabinet projects.

      @@Idahopainter Hi Chris, could you please provide a little more detail? I've been using SW Kem Aqua Plus which SW says is a "lacquer" despite the fact that it is water-based. First primer coat creates a lot of grain-raising that then requires lots of sanding. I've heard that SW also offers solvent-based pigmented lacquers (which i guess would be considered a "conversion" lacquer? anyway, are you guys using the water-based Kem Aqua from SW or instead using SW's solvent based or conversion pigmented lacquers? If you're using the solvent-based, I assume it doesn't raise the grain which saves time and effort? Thanks in advance!

    • @Idahopainter
      @Idahopainter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      practice

    • @DMZRPG
      @DMZRPG 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Practice like he said yes.....but you can also try to lower the flow rate of material comming out of your gun. When running another pass wait 30 seconds before applying (while waiting keep hitting the door with air) let it flash off a little. You can try moving your hand faster. And maybe don't thin out the paint so much. Always use a measuring cup when cutting and adjust percentages accordingly. Play around with these variables in different combinations. Hope you get good results. 👍🏻
      Oh and also your overlapping might be too close together. Cheers!

    • @Idahopainter
      @Idahopainter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Chad Rockman I drilled them in my own cabinets and I’m not upset. Why in the world would anyone ever care. I have not compromised the integrity of the cabinet. There are holes all over for hinges, door handles, for assembly. When we get on steep roofs we have to put screws in the roof for our safety equipment. Sometimes it’s the nature of the work and what you have to do to get the end result the customer desires.

I did have to fill a lower door that I changed the swing on but it is not that big of a deal. I sure wish I had metal hangers. The plastic and wooden ones were kind of a pain. I had 24 doors hanging on a pipe in my laundry room it was quite a sight.

The customer is always right. I've never bad mouthed a customer. I might think of a certain customer as being fussy, choosy, or highly particular, but that's as far as I go. Any good business will treat every customer like that. That's the essence of customer service.
