Hi Johnny, sorry to hear of your awful experience with the room, and lack of customer service, I'm glad you got it sorted and hopefully stayed in a better room :) have a great day!

When booking hotels, I always try to book the "pay at the hotel" rates as opposed to the prepaid rates. With "pay at the hotel" rates, you don't pay anything at the time of reservation and upon arrival they do a preauthorization on your credit for the full stay plus estimated incidentals and then each night during your stay, they would post the room charge to your folio which you settle upon check out. If departing early, the nights you don't stay simply don't get posted to the folio (unless the hotel charges an early departure fee) and you don't get charged for them. Also, with "pay at the hotel" rates, you can cancel anytime up to the deadline specified by the hotel (usually 1-3 days before arrival) and and not get dinged for a cancelation penalty which is usually one night plus tax. With prepaid rates, once the hotel gets the money, it is very hard to get a refund as most frontline staff don't have access to the password/credentials to issue a refund on the credit card terminal.

Sorry you had this experience. Maybe go back in the winter and you’ll be toasty warm? I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a TV on a stand like that. Glad you were able to find another place to stay on short notice so you wouldn’t suffer another 2 nights.

🎉🎊 Congrats 🎉 on getting that refund, Johnny Stumbles! 💰💸 It sounds like you had a bit of a nightmare 😱 situation with that Belgium 🇧🇪 hotel 🏨, but I'm glad 😁 to hear that you were able to get some of your money 💵 back. And hey, now that you've got a little extra cash 💰 in your pocket, you can treat yourself to some of those delicious 🍫 Belgian chocolates 🍫 or waffles 🧇! Keep up the great 💯 travel vlogging 📷, Johnny - your videos 📺 are always a delight 😃 to watch 👀, and we're all rooting 🥳 for you!

Not uncommon in Belgium/Northern France to get rooms without A/C but 30 degree weather is uncommon too. That's why I don't go there between end of June and early Sept, I had enough of that growing up there!

It is like this everywhere and with everything in Brussels… No one ever knows who is responsible and no one ever wants to be responsible. It makes every experience where you have to speak with someone incredibly frustrating.

May I suggest if you return to Brussels a stay at The Usual. Great location, staff extremely friendly with a great Continental breakfast. Also they will clean your room upon your request. You dont need them to clean your room everyday. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would go back in a heartbeat.

As we’d say in the UK, the situation with the weather is Sod’s Law. I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you had though I would’ve thought that hotels in continental Europe would automatically have AC given how hot the summers are these days. Still, I’m glad you got a good conclusion. I definitely like Ibis’ so hope you had a good experience there. 🙂

AC is mostly unheard of in Europe. My experience.

@@brigittegesierich7666 you really need to search for a hotel that doesn't have airconditioning. I have airconditioning in my flat, in my car, at my gym, at my office and at every hotel I've ever stayed at in Belgium.

You use A/C? We down here in Texas never touch the stuff.
