In India, specially in Hindu weddings there is a custom that the groom's shoes will be stolen and hidden by the bride's side until the groom's side finds them. This has been existing since many many years, but this film just glamorized this custom. It's really fun though. If the groom's side don't find the shoes, they have to pay some amount of money demanded by the bride's side and then get the shoes back . In this film, Madhuri's sister and Salman's brother are getting married...so these fun games are being played by them. Also, at the end of the song, Salman could have had the shoes back, but he let Madhuri have them.. because he fell for her..
This film inspired a lot of wedding culture but the shoe hiding tradition goes back decades and this film was probably the first to make it the focus of a song sequence.
No, they’re not getting married! Indeed, their respective siblings are getting married to each other. They’re presently engaged in a tug of war over the groom’s shoes ( which the bride’s sister must hide as per custom) Also, this custom has existed much before this film
Actually it is a tradition is to steal hide grooms shoes, its also for fun and for money within the bride's side Madhuri is the bride's sister here and salman the groom's brother. The bride's side stole the groom's shoes and hid it but salman's team goes and steals it back and hides it Now the groom's side asks for money to return the shoes but didn't realise that the shoes are already stolen so the tug of war begins. And for the rest watch the movie❤
It was already a tradition to hide the shoes of the guy who is going to marry by the cousins of the girl who is going to marry. This movie includes great songs for every traditional wedding ceremony in North India. sung by legends like SP Balasubramaniam and Lata Mangeshkar

They're not getting married here they are singing at their brother and sisters wedding (salmans' character brother marrying maduhris character sister) they essentially don't know each other here much, this is full cheeky flirty
there is no complication but pure family fun..... in ancient indian culture when the groom goes to brides house for marriage then all sister in laws tease the groom with many fun games.... hiding the grooms shoes and later releasing for money or other presents is a common game.... younger brothers or cousins of groom play the detective searching for the shoe.... many other music or dance challenges etc fun games between younger people of both families take place throughout the night till all get exhausted... usually ancient tradition of marriages continued from ten to ifteen days.....
Hooray, it lovely to see your back. It's been or boring week without Matthew and Kay. Great reaction as always. The last wedding I attended it cost the groom over £300 to get his shoes back. Keep up the good work 😃👍

Brides team steal grooms shoes and ask for money in return for it to return. Coz most traditions are done without wearing shoes so both remove them during ceremonies.
Hiding the groom's shoe is a tradition of Indian wedding and does not exist because of this movie. It is done by bride's sisters and is given back to groom only when they get asked amount of money. It's our wedding culture.
The bride's sisters have to as per tradition steal groom's shoes and groom's siblings, friends have to hide, save the shoes. It's a tradition since time immemorial. The customs are never influenced by films but films are influenced or inspired by customs.
Amazing reaction! ❤ Please react to the songs from the movie - Bahubali. I am sure you would like them. Some of them are - Panchhi Bole, Dhivara/Khoya hai, Kanha Soja zara, etc.
Hiding the grooms shoes is very old custom They have also included it in the movie for fun as well. The sisters of the bride hide the shoes, and then they demand money to return the shoes. The groom has no choice but give in. This still happens in all in weddings
You would love any song from Dil Se, but start with Chaiyya Chaiyya, the whole dance takes place on top of a moving train. Other recs: Choli Ke Peeche from Kalnayak Radha Kaise Na Jale from Lagaan
Its opposite ....its custom a fun game in north weddings were brides siblings hide grooms shoes and return only when gift or money is given from groom. Movie depicted fun games in Indian marriages.
Ha ha ha! Judging from the comments here, a lot of people must have been screaming at their screens! To explain, the game of holding the groom's shoes for ransom (jutti chupai/churai = hiding/stealing the shoes) is centuries old, and is common across South Asia, regardless of faith, caste or income, though it originated from Hindu traditions. The shoes are said to represent wealth and status: the groom removes them prior to the religious ceremony, to signify piety and respect before God, and it's usually at this point that they "disappear". After the ceremony, the groom must pay a ransom for his shoes, as a demonstration of his wealth and generosity (since there is strictly no need to buy them back). It's all intended to foster good relations between families - South Asians take very seriously the principle that a marriage is between two families, not just the couple. I notice that you have remarked on the visible wealth of the characters of this film, a number of times. Generally speaking, it doesn't take much wealth, relatively speaking, to build a house in South Asia, and these usually look like mansions to Western eyes, but that's because they are meant to accommodate at least three generations of family. In the cities it's a different story; most people live there for work, so accommodation tends to be more modest, but it's not where they put down roots. This film is undoubtedly good family fare, but it is guilty of completely airbrushing out any sign of poverty, and this was never the case before in Bollywood. The reception of this film was not as universally positive as people might recall, and it was precisely for this reason. As a counterpoint, may I suggest Yaro, Sunlo Zara from Rangeela, or Mere Gully Mein, from Gully Boy? Both deal with the grittier side of life, without seeming maudlin
To find the fun , entertainment, dance many traditional things are included in Indian culture, festival , marriage etc .without that Indians can't live .
Playful Fun during weddings. Grooms Shoes to be taken by Bridesmaids. In return the groom will have to pay the bridesmaids for return of grooms shoes. The grooms mates/cousins (usually males) duty that day is to ensure grooms shoes are not taken and if they do get taken, get them back before the end of wedding, where at that point the groom requires his shoes to leave. Its a kind hearted playful fun and a great way for grooms single mates to meet brides single friends and have a bit of fun during sometimes lengthy tedious weddings.
there is a ceremony in south Asian wedding called "jute churai" "steeling shoe" bride's sister or friends used to take away grooms shoe and groom's side tries to protect the shoes, the groom or his relatives have to pay to get his shoe back. this song is about that ceremony

We've a ceremony where friends and sisters of Bride hide shoes of groom and demand for money. Brothers and friends of Groom negotiate with sisters and freiends for amount to be paid. This song is depicting the ceremony as the negotiations are not seriuos and just for fun and teasing each other!!!
Its a fun part in indian marriages...the brides sisters steals the shoes of the the groom....and returns them only on payment of cash...its just a light hearted playfull mischieve...here madhuri is the brides sister while salman is the grooms brother...madhuri tries to steal the shoes of her groom while salman tries to save them...

And in the movie, Madhuri's elder sister dies and elders in the family decide (that use to happen in India in older days in most cases , elders use to decide to whom the son or a daughter will marry, not nowadays though) that she should marry her brother in law to take care of his new born child.
