I would add that going to see live music with great musicians & drummers will help ground you in the real world. You'll see just how much work you need to do just to keep up with the greats, it's also very inspirational to see a fine drummer making music swing & groove. This always is a humbling experience for me, but a good one for sure!

The first condition of learning is humility. Another word for humility is reality...

Hahaha! Great way to say it yeah! But some people don't have reality within their grasp. LOL

In a time where opinions are valued over facts, the best opinion we can have of ourselves is that we’re only growing students in all areas of life. Our job then, is to spend our days studying and working on ourselves; just the opposite of our labeling, tabloid, society.

The more you learn & grow as a person, the more you want to grow. Even a little success or progress seems to encourage you to keep on going. We all are students on this planet, doing the best we can with what we do know!

@@philmaturanodrums Yes I've seen great progress when I got diligent to study, this gave me the resolve to keep on going no matter what is happening around me. I remember a lesson I had with Chuck Flores, I was doing the lesson material when Chuck's family came into the garage area where the lessons were done. When his family started to talk to Chuck I stopped playing, but Chuck said why did you stop? Keep playing because in real life there's many distractions, & you have to keep playing no matter the distractions. That was a bonus lesson hidden inside my regular lesson!

If you’re very critical or better, analytical with yourself as a human being and musician and open to other people about your flaws, you have to be careful. Some folks hawk on that to lower your confidence so they feel on top of you. I made this mistake too often…

Gotta be careful with people and stay on top of who truly cares for you. Its tricky for sure!

If found a lot this thing in other drummers...i hate them...to be humble is the key in opinion

Thats right. I see these guys that act this way...as people who are suffering. Suffering the lack of a proper guide and a proper connection to music.
