Our mini excavator gets a new engine

  • We aren't sure why the engine quit running, and we didn't take it to a small engine repair place, but it is possible that even while Ross was following the owner's manual, too much oil may have been added to the sump during a routine oil change. So a new engine was acquired with little problem and easily swapped out!
    Thank you to www.audionautix.com and Jason Shaw for our music!

      Thank you so much for coming along! 😊 It has made a huge difference and we are so happy to have purchased it. Sure beats the hand held cutters we were using! 🤣

    Well done. Get the old engine repaired & keep it as a spare. surely the old engine would be covered by warranty?

    • @ouraussiehomestead
      @ouraussiehomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks so much! 😊 Long story, but it was cheaper to buy a new engine at cost than to transport the excavator to Brisbane to get it fixed under warranty and now we have a spare engine that Ross will either fix at some point or it will be great for parts!

    unfortunate with the problems, good to have a 2nd motor tho just in case.

    You should do more movies on this little A10. Not much on TH-cam at the moment and seems like a capable little machine for the price. Seems ideal for this type of work. HowTo on A10S.

    I just bought a mini excavator same size , about a month ago haven't been able to use it much because it's still winter here I the north west USA, but supposed to warm up in about a week looking forward to using it.

    have these engines with couple thousand work hours never ever had issue. oil change every 75 hrs this particular model diggers main design fault is side panels can be removed to work on side of these engines without removing the engine. as nobody wants that hassle. other than that amazing little diggers

    • @ouraussiehomestead
      @ouraussiehomestead  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      We probably would still be okay with ours too if we hadn’t filled the oil up too high with the first oil change. Live and learn! 🙂 Otherwise, good to know that you haven’t had any other real problems with them. Thanks for watching!

  • @dieselsforlife3847
    @dieselsforlife3847 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Yeah. I have seen that as well. I believe the ones for the USA is only gas. As far as I know any way. But as of right now, diesel fuel is cheaper here than gas. Idk about how they get the shaft the same as the diesels tho. I haven’t gotten to work on one yet. Hopefully you can figure it out tho!

      Ross agrees that a proper garage will be so nice to have! He can’t wait. He says that the back of the X-Trail managed to get the job done though. Thankfully. 😅

    • @ouraussiehomestead
      @ouraussiehomestead  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It’s a Koop engine, that’s what it came with and the replacement engine is identical, I’m pretty sure if something goes wrong with this one I’ll be getting a different brand

  • @dieselsforlife3847
    @dieselsforlife3847 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Hmm. If black smoke could be air cleaner, or maybe something else like something over loading the engine. Maybe hydraulic pump is working way too hard to get oil, that can be from plugged suction screen, or filter. Or the hydraulic bypass isn’t working properly and putting load on it. Just ideas. Can always start the old engine that you took out of the mini and see if it still has same problem.

      Thanks for the question! The old engine was a Koop diesel too and it was swapped with an exact duplicate. We got the new one from the same company in Brisbane where we purchased the excavator.

    Kinda wonder if the pvc on it got plugged up or something along them lines. I have always filled mine top of threads. Maybe a piston ring has failed as well. Had that happen on a different engine.

    What went wrong with the original engine?

    • @ouraussiehomestead
      @ouraussiehomestead  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The instructions show a diagram of the oil level which matches the high mark on the dipstick so when I did the oil change I filled the sump to that level, I later found out that the actual full level is just above the low mark on the dipstick and having to much oil over pressurized the engine forcing oil up into to piston and burning out the rings killing the compression, I now also believe rings are of a poor quality as the second engine is getting harder to start and is starting to smoke after about 150 hours so I’m looking at my options for a rebuild or a suitable engine to replace it with, thanks for watching

  • @mad151maxx4
    @mad151maxx4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    How long did original engine last? Thx

    • @ouraussiehomestead
      @ouraussiehomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It ran for 50 hours until the first oil change. At the oil change we filled the sump to the diagram and the high mark on the dipstick and this was too much oil for the engine. This is what we believe killed the compression as the dipstick and diagram of how much oil to put in were both wrong.

    • @mad151maxx4
      @mad151maxx4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @ouraussiehomestead that sucks ,, I have a old 1960 WHITE riding lawm mower still ruins great. My old lady wants me to get new one. No way.

  • @dieselsforlife3847
    @dieselsforlife3847 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    What was actually wrong with the old engine?

    • @ouraussiehomestead
      @ouraussiehomestead  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      When I did the oil change I followed the diagram in the owners manual, it showed filling the oil to the high mark on the dipstick but I found out later that’s about 1.5 liters to much and from what I’ve read to much oil forces oil up into the cylinder and wrecks the compression, with all that said the second engine has been maintained perfectly and is getting really smoky and hard to start sometimes and it only has about 150 hours on it so I’m thinking about a 4 stroke petrol engine once this one dies which I guess won’t be to far in the future

    What happened to the motor, what failed?

    • @ouraussiehomestead
      @ouraussiehomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Going off the owners manual and filling the oil to the high mark, it got overfilled. As it is a cheap knockoff, the specs weren't right in the picture in the manual. Thank you for watching and coming along with us!

    • @Ful-OGold
      @Ful-OGold ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So the engine failed because it had to much oil in it?

    • @ouraussiehomestead
      @ouraussiehomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it had been filled to the high mark on the dipstick which was actually incorrectly.

    • @ouraussiehomestead
      @ouraussiehomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depending on what model Koop it is the manual will give you the number of litres, mine is 1.65 and that’s just above empty on the dipstick, just look it up and be careful and keep an eye on the oil pressure gauge, what model Koop do you have?

    • @112jaiboy
      @112jaiboy ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ouraussiehomestead Hi I have the Koop 192 which states 1.65ltr. If I measure that out first and check the dipstick I should be okay?. How much more did you put in do destroy the motor?. Thanks for the help.

    • @ouraussiehomestead
      @ouraussiehomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mine is also 1.65 ltr, I just filled it to the high mark on the dipstick, the 1.65 is not far above the low mark, yes now I just measure it out
