I was hoping you guys would react to Joan Jetts cover after reacting to Tommy James original. Joan did Tommy proud with a updated 80's hard rock sound. Joan is a musical icon and human rights advocate fighting for equality for all people, she is a national treasure.
That's a BRILLIANT idea. I grew up in Dallas and 2 rock radio stations did the multiple songs by a band before moving on to the next band. KZEW had 2fer Tuesdays and KTXQ had "Triple Shot Thursdays". For several years that's how I kept up with what day of the week it was
Definitely! I love a good cover, but I hate recommending them because I don't want to short the original artist. But if Jordan and Amber can do "You've Made Me So Very Happy" by Brenda Holloway AND also the Blood Sweat & Tears version, that's excellent. Or "Paint It, Black" by The Rolling Stones and by Glenn Tipton. And of course, I've been wanting "Well, All Right" by Buddy Holly forever. (My favorite song, period.). But now they could do Buddy…and the Blind Faith cover. (Or the Santana version. Or all three.)
I hate covers as a general rule , However Judas Priest did a cover of Green Manalishi With the Two Pronged Crown. Believe it or not was originally an old Fleetwood Mac song.
Fun fact , Tommy James said this was the only cover he ever loved. There a video of them both playing together, it was awesome. Wish I could’ve been there in person. I doubt some of the crowd knew how special that really was. ❤
My wife and Joan Jett are the same age, and my wife and Joan Jett went to high school together and were high school friends. My wife became a college professor, and, of course, Joan became a rock star. How cool is that?
You guys, her entire 1990 album titled The Hit List is loaded with great cover tracks like this one and Dirty Deeds. Also “Love Hurts”, “Tush”, “Time Has Come Today” and one of my favorite Kinks songs, “Celluloid Heroes”. Great music. #robsquad
What I am reading here her beauty makes it sound better, and I truly do like her version but will never replace the original version of an ugly Tommy James & The Shondells
American, Hispanic here to tell you I remember getting ready for school playing this song on the radio and just mesmerized but not only Joan Jett voice on this track, but the fact that they made this song rock totally took a different spin and truly made it its own. I will forever love this song. ❤️ this coming from a man that listens to all genres of music. Thanks to my father. 🙏🏼
You two are too cool!! Thanks for playing my leading Lady. Thanks for heading the call. More sensual Rock. You can't go wrong with Joan Jett. Merry Christmas
Sooo glad you guys did this one. I'd love seeing this type of thing done back-to-back, where you do the original of a song, then do a cover by another band that took it in a whole new direction. Some ideas: George Michael's Careless Whisper, covered by Seether Gary Numan's Cars, covered by Fear Factory Nine Inch Nails' Hurt, covered by Jonny Cash The Guess Who's American Woman, covered by Lenny Kravitz Stevie Wonder's Higher Ground, covered by Red Hot Chili Peppers Aerosmith's Walk This Way, covered by Run D.M.C w/Joe Perry & Steven Tyler The Beatles With a Little Help From My Friends, covered by Joe Cocker Bob Dylan's Knockin' on Heaven's Door, covered by Guns 'n' Roses Prince's Kiss, covered by Art Of Noise Featuring Tom Jones All of those can stand on their own, both the original and the cover.
Love this idea! Especially since a lot of the remakes were way more popular than the originals! There are TONS out there. A bunch of notable additions: The Isley Brothers's "Twist and Shout", covered by the Beatles Bruce Springsteen's "Blinded by the Light", covered by Manfred Mann's Earth Band Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower", covered by Jimi Hendrix The Zutons' "Valerie", covered by Amy Winehouse Bob Marley and The Wailers' "I Shot The Sheriff", covered by Eric Clapton Kris Kristofferson's "Me and Bobby McGee", covered by Janis Joplin Judy Garland's "Over the Rainbow", covered by IZ (Israel Kamakawiwo'ole) Otis Redding's "Respect", covered by Aretha Franklin JJ Cale's "Cocaine", covered by Eric Clapton The Kinks' "You Really Got Me", covered by Van Halen Dee Dee Warwick's "You're No Good", covered by Linda Ronstadt Bruce Springsteen's "Because the Night", covered by Patti Smith Rockin' Robin Roberts and the Wailers' "Louie Louie", covered by The Kingsmen Carl Perkins' "Blue Suede Shoes", covered by Elvis Presley Joni Mitchell's "Woodstock", covered by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Jake Holmes' "Dazed and Confused", covered by Led Zeppelin The Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", covered by DEVO The Strangeloves' "I Want Candy", covered by Bow Wow Wow Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You", covered by Whitney Houston Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly", covered by The Fugees Richard Harris' "MacArthur Park", covered by Donna Summer Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U", covered by Sinead O'Connor Neil Diamond's "Red Red Wine", covered by UB40 Phil Philips' "Sea of Love", covered by The Honeydrippers Gloria Jones' "Tainted Love", covered by Soft Cell Al Green's "Take Me To the River", covered by Talking Heads (a 3-fer) Brenda Lee's "Always On My Mind", covered by Willie Nelson, and subsequently by the Pet Shop Boys
I saw them perform this in Oklahoma City, back in the early 80s. It was in a tiny bar that held maybe 200 people. The venue was a former church, with steeple and all - very surreal. She was like 15 feet away, gorgeous and tough, all at once.
This is possibly the best cover song of all time. I really like the original, but Joan Jett just KILLED this and made it absolutely incredible. Even Tommy James loves it, and has performed it with her many times. If it wasn't for Van Halen's cover of the Kink's "You Really Got Me", I think this would be the undisputed best rock cover. My next recommendation: "She's A Beauty" by The Tubes. It's a song about a guy who falls in love with a girl in a peep show, and the singer is warning him of the dangers of falling for such a woman. Great lyrics and even better music - it's a sing-along!
I would love it if y’all did Joan Jett’s cover of Have You Ever Seen the Rain! I really enjoy watching all of y’all’s reactions! I could never do reactions to all of this great music because I’m 57 and grew up listening to all of this. I know every word to all of your music reactions. Keep up the amazing music reactions!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
If ever you are in a situation with little or no heat, A trick I learned from one of my supervisors in the Air Force, His family lost all power for 2 or 3 weeks in the blizzard of 1997 in Grand Forks. So all they had was a wood stove also, but the way they really stayed warm(er) was the put up a small tent in their living room and the 4 of them stayed in there mostly and their bodies put out enough heat for them to survive.
Huge jett fan. Have been since the Runaways. I'm in no way taking away from her hard work and talent.. But when I was young I always thought she was the most natural beauty in the business. A face that could launch a thousand ships.
FUN FACT: Joan's manager Kenny Laguna played keyboards for Tommy James for a time and it was his idea for Joan to cover it. Joan tried it, liked it and recorded it and the rest is rock n roll history!!! This version made it to #5 on the Billboards Top 100!!!
However, one thing to note is that the reason Kenny suggested she do this song is that he kept catching her singing it. It was one of her favorite songs since it originally came out. So, Kenny thought since she loved it that much, she should do it. It was already a song Joan held close to her heart before Kenny ever made the suggestion, so it's fitting that so many consider it her song, because it has always resonated with her.
Since you love leather clad rockers, you need to check out Canadian rocker Alannah Myles. Black Velvet is her most popular song, Still got this Thing, Rock this Joint are great songs. She has a great voice and is gorgeous. A great suggestion for your female Fridays.
I saw JJ open for Def Leppard about 15 years ago. It was just Joan, a bass player and a drummer. The three of them brought the house down. Incredible set that had everyone standing and rocking. She had a sticker on her guitar that said "Girls Kick Ass." She definitely did that night
I bought this album (you know those round vinyl things) when it came out in 1981 because of the song "I Love Rock 'n Roll"....but it was really "Crimson And Clover" and "Little Drummer Boy" that blew me away on the album....great debut album!
Just saw her w heart a couple years ago. Still sounds fantastic. That punk sound at the end reminded me of another song that is a MUST. Ball and Chain by Social Distortion. You'll dig it!
I remember coming home from the mall and my mom bought me this vinyl….and I was so in love with Joan Jett And Pat Benatar…so i put this on the record player and when Crimson and Clover came on…my mom came into the room and said “Hey! “And she grabbed my hands and danced with me….I was 9…i always ask her if she remembers that, she doesn’t…but i describe it to her,,,and she smiles….i remember my mom dancing with me singing this song…she was so happy…thank you again…now my daughter owns this vinyl…
This is great! It's also on the "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" album. There's also "Little Drummer Boy" on that same album. I have this vinyl album in my collection. Bought it in 2001 at a church rummage sale. It's a great album.
Greetings from Texas. How are you guys liking the cold weather? Always love your reactions, the two of you are some of my favorites. I grew up listening to her and had a big crush on her when I was a teen in the early 80s. Have a Merry Christmas guys.
I just watched one of your previous videos and I was reminded of a 1959 movie called "The Five Pennies" which has a great duet of Louis Armstrong and Danny Kaye singing "When The Saints Go Marching In". It's on a TH-cam clip and you'd definitely enjoy it. In fact, I'll keep mentioning this one until you watch it.
Saw her in concert here in northern Indiana a few months ago, she can still rock and put on a great show. She DID do this song during the concert. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Thanks Jay& Amber so much for this Rob Squad reaction.... I love and appreciate this so much. There is a "Little Drummer Boy" Christmas song that Joan Jett and The Blackhearts do their version of and I hope you check that out soon . Merry Christmas to you and your family
Thanks for playing this version. Takes me back to when I was 15! When she was inducted into the rock 'n' roll hall of fame, she played this version and had Tommy James come out to play alongside. Great female rocker!
And that was Joan's press release to the world. Just that subtle line staying the same, that choice, some volumes and was such a bad ass move. So Joan. This is the rare remake that I just adore so much more than the original. And the original is freakin' amazing. There are actually two Joan Jett versions of the same cover that is this song. Both are on Spotify. This one is great, but there's another one that has a dope guitar instrumental opening and she comes in later very dramatically and just owns it that much more. Great pick y'all. 👍
The lead guitarist is Ricky Byrd (Joan Jett plays rhythm guitar). From the same album, they covered AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds" and also "Love Hurts" originally by the Everly Brothers, but the Nazareth version may be better known. Dirty Deeds features more of Ricky Byrd's excellent guitar work.
Joan definitely put a rock edge on an already great 53 year old song. Hard to believe her version is 40 years old
The original record release happened 54 years ago last month, 9 months after I was released from the womb.
@@willdwyer6782 ... TMI 😂
Oh man. That just depressed me big time. Her version is 40 years old? Say it ain't so. 40 years ago. My God.
Freaks me out too man. Yo think I was 17 when the run came out. Far out. Merry Christmas.
I had this on a 45!!! I'm only old to the ones that don't know what a 45 was. LOL

I like that she didn't re-sex the song. Joan is after that girl just as hard as Tommy was.
you guys should do this more often. Like a two-fer Tuesday or something. An original and it's cover.
Yes
That's a BRILLIANT idea. I grew up in Dallas and 2 rock radio stations did the multiple songs by a band before moving on to the next band.
KZEW had 2fer Tuesdays and KTXQ had "Triple Shot Thursdays". For several years that's how I kept up with what day of the week it was

Liked the original but always really liked Joan’s version too. She really made it her own. Soft, rough and sexy all at the same time.

I love some good old classic Joan Jett stuff. Of course it's a cover but she makes it sound great.
I've also had issues with my heat recently. Still not working properly, but it's working nominally for now. Glad you guys are warm!
Saw her in concert here in northern Indiana a few months ago, she can still rock and put on a great show. She DID do this song during the concert. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

I love that the tone is so different than most of her songs, this really showed that she was no 1 dimensional rocker
Another great Joan Jett song is "I Hate Myself for Loving You".

Gutsy to do a cover of this and NOT change the pronouns way back in the early 80s! Gotta ♥ Joan Jett!
Not For Joan Jett. 😁
Amen, Bekka. One of the many reasons why she is beloved by me and so many others I know.
Oh, Joan's bisexuality has never been a secret!
It's interesting that she didn't flip the pronouns in this cover, she did for her cover of "I Love Rock n Roll."
I love her so much
The lead guitarist is Ricky Byrd (Joan Jett plays rhythm guitar).
From the same album, they covered AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds" and also "Love Hurts" originally by the Everly Brothers, but the Nazareth version may be better known.
Dirty Deeds features more of Ricky Byrd's excellent guitar work.

I feel like I’m listening to my moms music and love it so much. Thank you for all you two do..!❤
She was such a badass. Being a young boy in the 80s. She blew my mind.
The contrast between the gritty, dirty, distorted geetar with the beautiful serene image of crimson and clover makes this cover so good. Tension!

She puts a good spin on it always actually worked with Joan Jett and Blackhearts back in the day
This was my first exposure to this song back in the day... it was on the same album with I Love Rock and Roll

Ooh yeah! Glad you caught those comments yesterday
Glad you are doing the remake back to back to the original. Joan put her own great touch on it. Remakes don’t always work but this does!!
