I bought a Tudor Sub (blue, like Tristano’s) new in 1995 for $950.00!! I sold it a few years later. It was never even a thought that it would be worth anything down the line....boy, that one hurt.

I'm loving it and I believe I'm hooked now, perhaps a bit obsessed, lol. Already looking at some other Seiko watches. Thanks for the new addiction! lol
I bought a Seiko 5 last year. Was my first automatic watch. Now I spend most of my time reading about watches and watching lots of videos... It's like a drug.

The Royal Canadian Navy also issued Tudor 7928 Submariners to divers in and around 1967. Some years ago I found a box of old Tudor divers discarded in a cardboard box in the base dive shack. Aside from the 7928, there were a couple Tudor 9401/0 "hybrids" with snowflake hands, and a blue MN snowflake.
I purchased 2 Tudor watches from Tourneau back in 1996-a Submariner and their last chronograph before moving on to the Tiger model. I’ve been very happy with both although the chronograph had to go back twice due to quitting within 12 hours! Both came with oyster bracelets although the Submariner’s version was the folded type and the chronograph the screwed links. For some reason I swapped them so now the Submariner wears the screwed links. Both are in excellent condition as I don’t wear them often as I’m quite hard on my watches. Recently purchased an Invicta speedway 9211 as a daily watch and am quite happy with it. Feels great and even the stopwatch function works well with screw down pushers. But they’ve swapped the sweep second hand which ticks constantly. Any thoughts? Keep up the great videos. Mac Morgan
Great background on the brand, the dive watch genre, and this model in particular. Yes, I do find myself bored by the Rolex Submariner design, mainly the dial markers and “MBZ” hour hand. But it is unlikely that I will ever give up my Sub homage precisely because of the design bloodline to the origin of the genre. Tudors seem to be remarkable watches, all the more for their being affordable and until recently not being such a status symbol or “I’ve arrived!” statement. Your love of watches is infectious.
TGV finally got a on of by grail pieces, my Birthday Watch after years of searching for the 1973 Rolex Steve McQueen Explorer in pristine condition except the patina & unpolished scratches with box. papers & serving documents. Probably paid a premium on it, but had to pull the trigger as this opportunity doesn't come around very often, its the 1655 & very unique in design, I understand this particular model had a very short production run as well. I love the indices on this version of the Explorer, I hope that Rolex bring a similar designed Rolex Explorer back one day.
My Dad bought/acquired one of these for my brother in the early 1970's. He ended up losing it in New England while jumping off a 60 ft cliff at a local closed quarry. Boy, he was bummed for a long, long time.

I have a ‘66 7928 first purchased at a military exchange in Singapore or Hong Kong by my uncle, Royal Marines retired. Love it. Now the real question is where do I get a Tudor 390 properly serviced? Seems near impossible…..
I do respect those who care, restore vintage watches, something I don’t think I can do, I have one 62 year old gold round Hamilton which was given to my mother for me on my birth, had it serviced some time ago by Hamilton and it works, I know it’s no Rolex, but it’s mine and have a feeling for it. I could probably afford one luxury watch in my life, and most likely if not for sure it will be an Omega, always liked the brand and styling, more was leaning towards a speedmaster, but some of the new seamasters do look nice. I would go pre owned on a late model watch at the most. Nice review of the 50 year old submaster.

Don’t forget that the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Mil Spec 1 was used by the US Navy’s Seals and Combat Divers from 1958 through 1966 when the name changed to Tornek-Rayville Mil Spec 2 (Tornek was the Blancpain US distributor for the ‘Buy American Act at that time).
I almost bought a bronze Tudor last month, it was a spur of the moment thing and I'm saving for a different watch, but it was looking up and seeing the king of tat David Beckham that put me off . I know it's a decent watch but it kept me from spending money I was saving .
Hi TGV Oh, NYC in the summer - wonderful😊 And a Tudor to die for. Really like the newer Black Bays too, but there’s nothing like a well kept patinaed vintage piece. That was a good call to avoid the plated case. I like vintage watches and I prefer the all-steel waterproof watches that have been around since the 40s. That way I get the best of both worlds, vintage-styling and modern durability. I have several vintage watches that are barely even 'dustproof' and I need to be careful about how I wear those.
This isn’t a NAVY SEAL in the thumbnail. It’s an Army Special Forces (Green Beret) Combat Diver. From a dive team. I was one, speaking from experience. Great video.
Hi TGV. Another great video. I truly enjoyed the format and style of this review. Very informative and interesting and I learned a lot. Thanks. I have a quick question. I just purchased a Tissot Seastar 1000, Powermatic 80 and I absolutely love it. Great price at just over $400, and I think it packs a punch at a far greater price point. Great movement with an accuracy of less than 2 seconds/day fast and I have yet to find a design flaw. My question is: Why does the Tissot Seastar get so little attention on TH-cam? I read some favorable reviews, yet I haven’t found any You Tube Channels which have reviewed the Seastar. I’m curious as to your thoughts as to why the Seastar doesn’t get much attention. I hope I’ve purchased a good watch:)? Thanks for your consideration in answering my query.
Could you imagine using a Submariner in today's military? I was in the Marines, and we did heavy training. Although it would be awesome, I would feel horrible wearing it through the stuff I put my dw6900 or 5610 through.... my SKX also got a lot of use in the Marine Corps, but one commander I had called it eccentric and wanted to get me a nice little NJP.... while he wore a gold Invicta in uniform lol. Old video, but it's fun to watch old content, thanks TGV.
Another great video with some military history. Love it when you make these! Served with US Special Forces in a supporting role and many today choose a robust, digital watch like a G-Shock or Sunnto. However it was funny how many of them would ask me about my Hamilton Khaki Automatic !
Love the Sinn and the military history of the Marathon, Hamilton Field Khaki, and the pilot fleigers ... but since the Casio G-Shock are there really any analog watches that active military use?
Yes these mil spec watches are lovely to own and admire historically. But are not prevalent, useful or current in today's military world. It's reflected by the forces choosing heavy duty digital watches for stealth and accuracy. Probably have a few warlords in Uganda wearing a Rolex sub or militia wearing Tudor vintage more like .
CWC G10s , pulsar do a few analogue watches that I think may still be issued in British forces , possibly Marathon for the US. Still though I can't see a special forces guy or regular choosing a shiny metal watch with questionable auto movements for active duty . Then again I heard Seals , SAS pick there own so could be wrong
Thank you number 1! You gotta do it. If I can do anything to help, I will. BTW, I wore my special Italy colors NDC today in your honor. I feel truly proud to wear it. O&U brother! Catch up Friday. Best regards, TGV
Hi gentry. And please any help u can give me on this will be highly appreciated. I just bought a watch with aneta 2824-2 elabore. The watch says manual wind and automatic. But a lot of threads say dont manual wind the eta 2824-2 cause it can damage the gears. Is this tru. Thanks and keep up the great vids.
Just subbed this channel, these videos intrigue me and made me start getting into watches and appreciate my old beaten up Seikos and Pulsars quartz watches from my teenage years and my Dad's old Seiko, Citizen watches that I inherited from him. Currently, I have a young female relative who's going to be the first in our family to complete law school. I'm just a blue-collar worker with not a lot of fashion sense. Most in my family wants to give her a smartwatch, after watching your videos I want to give her a watch that can make her look her best in her profession, but at the same time not be a "show off" to her seniors and fellow associates. May I suggest maybe starting a set of videos that can give good watch advise for people starting careers in the white-collar field? I don't want to give her a submariner (and it homage) and it will look out-of-place.
Looks like my Ginault Ocean Rover except for handset. When you want modern materials, finishing, durability and accuracy, just wear the Ginault and keep the Tudor safely in storage...
Not a sub I know however I recently bought a Black Bay and love it. So whilst I wouldn't buy vintage (hence the BB), that is an exquisite piece you just shared with us and thanks for sharing it. Would love to see the rose logo back on the face rather than the shield.
The Black Bay is a Sub, well to me at least. I know I will get flak for that, but its sooooooooo deeply and intrinsically linked to this and all other Tudor Subs, you are deffo in the club my friend! Totally with you on the Rose, I wish mine had it. Which version did you get? Thank you JJ, Best regards, TGV
Around 9:32 you mention the ivory lume. Do you think this is original lume, or repainted? Generally, the 7928's I see have lume that is a lot more deteriorated and yellowish. Do you think this is the original to the dial? This is what I'm more used to seeing: www.tapatalk.com/groups/vintagerolexforum/fs-1965-tudor-submariner-ref-7928-with-gilt-chapte-t254439.html
What brand and style/model is the strap on this piece? Obviously NATO, but I love the color combo and the fabric keeper but can't find that particular color combo anywhere with a fabric keeper. Anyone have leads on this?
Very useful and informational since I'm trying to find a tudor prince myself right now! I hope I'm able to get my hands on a vintage tudor sub someday! Until then, my new Tissot seastar will suit me. Thanks for the information, great as always : )
A classy choice Taylor, the Seamster is inlay cool and underrated. I might have to review one, I have had my eye on the blue dial for donkeys. May I ask which one you went for? Anyways, enjoy! Tissot is a powerful and important brand. Thank you, Best regards, TGV
@@theurbangentry I purchased the reference T1204071104100 rather than the certina I planned to get because of the exhibition caseback. It has kept the time better than my dad's omega. On an even bigger note, it's $300 less expensive than the certina. My only problem with it is how hard it is to take the bracelet off even with proper watchmaking tools. Either way, it's a great watch!
There is something about a blue dial that I just love. Which is my only problem with the next watch I want to buy. I have decided to go with the Omega seamaster master 300, and I love the blue of the titanium model. But that's just my problem, I don't want a titanium watch and bracelet and the problems that come with it. Add to that the not insignificant price jump and it's hard not to look at the steel model even if the black isn't quite as attractive
Hmmm, thats a tough one, may I ask the reference. I might be able to help, who knows. I have to say, I love the blue of the Tudor, but sometimes I catch myself wishing it was black to match my attire better. Thank you John, happy hunting. Best regards, TGV
@@theurbangentry Of course. As far as I can tell from the Omega home pages the references for the watches are Steel: 233.30.41.21.01.001 Platinum: 233.90.41.21.03.002 Not sure why I didn't realise I linked the platinum and not titanfall since I even wrote it down. The look is the same, but the platinum is at a waaay different price point. Titanium ref is: 233.90.41.21.03.001
Beautiful watch. So much like the Submariner in every way. Amazing condition for 50 years old. Just goes to show regular Rolex service makes the difference . I bet the price on that watch is equal or more to purchasing a new Submariner. Nice review.
Great review Sir, as always.. I’m was on the fence regarding my next acquisition. It was between the new Tudor Black Bay or The Breitling Super Avenger 2 ... Think I will go Breitling first.. Then Tudor in a couple of years,, We shall see!? All the best Mate.. BMJ ENGLAND 🏴
Great Video like always! I see the navy seals using a Honda motor for that boat haha. yes Navy seals used to wear be given rolexes. Not so much anymore after the modern G shock frogman
Good evening TGV, once again a great Video in a relevant topic. I like the vintage Tudors with the Rolex-twist. Often Tudor takes the Rolex-Design a little Fürther than Rolex dies, making them quite interesting pieces.

The vintage Tudor subs are crazy cool watches. Definetly worth a future consideration. However, a Fortis Cosmonaut chrono with a caliber 5100 is on the top of my list right now (going to check one out next week!) BTW, great strap choice. Can you imagine loosing a springbar and you hear a little splash whilst rowing gently down the stream... That would be a true nightmare. Looking forward to the next one! Regards, Koen

Hi TGV, great review and for the me this is the grail watch of my hopeful collection. 👍
Tgv the music you use in your intros is awesome i have a high end monster sound system and your music sounds so good keep it up onwards and ☝ wards
Another great video with some military history. Love it when you make these! Served with US Special Forces in a supporting role and many today choose a robust, digital watch like a G-Shock or Sunnto. However it was funny how many of them would ask me about my Hamilton Khaki Automatic !
Ha not at all! However my specialty was a little more technical than that.
T, superb watch, superb video. A Tudor sub will be mine one day. Best as always. Matthew
Thank you number 1!
You gotta do it. If I can do anything to help, I will.
BTW, I wore my special Italy colors NDC today in your honor. I feel truly proud to wear it.
O&U brother! Catch up Friday.
Best regards,
TGV
Love this new style of review 😊
Row boat = TGV's yacht before Watchbox employment. 200ft yacht = TGV's yacht after Watchbox employment.
LOL, maybe after a thousand more videos!!!
But I'm down for it :D
Thank you Jim, you almost made me choke on my evening vino.
Best regards,
TGV
Nice video .. love the Tudor sub and the brand. I’m currently saving for Tudor North Flag. Could you do a review on the North Flag? Thanks 😊
I want a titanium case and bracelet with rose gold accents.
Thank you JJ,
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry MT5602 black face red bezel. And if you take any flak, I've got your back :)
Around 9:32 you mention the ivory lume. Do you think this is original lume, or repainted? Generally, the 7928's I see have lume that is a lot more deteriorated and yellowish. Do you think this is the original to the dial?
This is what I'm more used to seeing:

The Urban Gentry
"Keep It GENTRY" Ol' chap.
Thank you,
Best regards,

@@theurbangentry I purchased the reference T1204071104100 rather than the certina I planned to get because of the exhibition caseback. It has kept the time better than my dad's omega. On an even bigger note, it's $300 less expensive than the certina. My only problem with it is how hard it is to take the bracelet off even with proper watchmaking tools. Either way, it's a great watch!
Gooday Governor! I was woundering if you could share your opinion on the Slow Swiss watches? Is it good of just a gimmick?
Domed acrylic crystal, 39mm, markers painted. I’d pick this format anyway over the current super blingy Tudor and Rolex offerings.
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry Of course. As far as I can tell from the Omega home pages the references for the watches are
Steel: 233.30.41.21.01.001
Platinum: 233.90.41.21.03.002
Not sure why I didn't realise I linked the platinum and not titanfall since I even wrote it down.
Hey TGV. I was just wondering if you had thought about shooting in 24fps? Seems like that would be your style. Cheers! Love the channel.
Thank you :D
I will look into 24fps, I appreciate the tip.

Great video. Thank you
Great review Sir, as always..
Evening Heiko, I hope you are well sir.
A very true and valid point, it makes me value my Tudor more to be honest.
Thank you, so glad you find it interesting.
Best regards,
TGV
Great post, thank you Tristano!
Thank you Kurt :D
O&U!

I actually prefer the tudor submariner over the rolex. Maybe ill actually own it or a black bay in the coming years (the name black bay makes me think of pirates lol)
LOL, I totally get that too!!!
I wonder what the genesis of the name was come to think of it,
As for Tudor over Rolex on the Subs, well, with a reference like this, I would be there with you.
Thank you Jacob,
Best regards,

Navy Seals using Rolex are like: "don't shoot my watch"
Eeehhh it’s not to turn wright...😖 9:30 anywho, I’ll take a tudor anyday, rather than rolex. Just love the brand, thanks for another good video.
Cool sunnies. What kind are they??
Shopping for a 79090.. can anyone tell me how much extra to the cost if the watch comes with orig box and papers? Is that a show stopper if it doesnt?
The city of brotherly love becomes you better than NYC
lots of love from Italy, Gentry!
Hi idol :)
I tried to contact you many times to ask you about how to get the Seiko SNE493 black series? It is no longer on the Seiko website.
Please advice me where to get it.
if you measure it excluding nato it won't be as high and more accurate ;) therefore on any other option but nato it will sit lower on the wrist obviously. great watch.
Hooyah from a froggie overseas. Rockin my 7021 as we speak.
As usual,, quality content 🌺♥️
Love the history lessons with TGV because I totally didn't realize how old the Tudor brand was! Thought they were a recent branch off from Rolex 🤦♂️
Great Video. Great history lesson. Great location. When are you moving to Philly?
I actually moved, but I am in the middle of it so to speak. Its a bit of a night mare to be honest.
I go back to be with family on the weekends, but I will do an update soon ;-)
Thank you Ed, glad enjoyed it, stay tuned,
Best regards,
TGV
The Urban Gentry I feel for you. Just moving across town can be a real headache. I hope your wife is moving to Philly with you. I’m happy you got to go full-time with your Life’s passion. God bless you ,keep up the good work.
I would enjoy a video on different time keeping systems, like the traditional Japanese.
Very nice video again, thanks.
Love the Submariner!
Bi-directional bezel is an interesting touch.
The vintage Tudor subs are crazy cool watches. Definetly worth a future consideration. However, a Fortis Cosmonaut chrono with a caliber 5100 is on the top of my list right now (going to check one out next week!)
BTW, great strap choice. Can you imagine loosing a springbar and you hear a little splash whilst rowing gently down the stream... That would be a true nightmare.
Looking forward to the next one!
Regards,
Koen
Thank you Koen, you always make me smile.
I know EXACTLY what you mean about the Fortis, if you have a chance to get a 5100 based Cosmo, DO IT!!!!
Their prices are shooting up. Also they are getting hard to find, I was extremely lucky with mine.
OMG, that springbar nightmare sound AWFUL!!!!! LOL

@@theurbangentry The pleasure is mine. I've learned a great deal about horology from your videos and I appreciate the time and effort you put in.
You forgot the nato when messuring the thickness i think :) thx for the video!
Its in there, haha you scared me for a second!
Thank you :D

.. love the background beats..
Are you a fan of "It's always sunny in Philadelphia"? Great video's btw.
Didn't they use brass cases with nickel plating in those days??? I mean the old Blancpain….
Hey there TGV .
Love your videos over here in Blighty 😉
I’ve finally ordered myself some Persol 2747s and seeing you wearing them on that boat made me smile .
I’m also wearing my SKX 007.👍🏻
I love your lifestyle tips .Keep up the good work fella 😎
VML ( from the UK 🇬🇧)
U have to do a state of the collection because I think it’s been 6 months since the last one👍😃
I really appreciate your videos. I had no idea that Tudor was related to Rolex. I love learning about the histories of these old watch companies. It's very interesting. Thanks!
"Let's take a closer look at the watch" ....... which you do perfectly ! For some reason where I would look at and ultimately purchase a Rolex Tudor was kind of like a red haired orphan of Rolex, that is sold in the corner of the shop by itself. Great attention to detail on your review ! 🤓
What reference number is that again?
Can you do a piece on Omegas Moon Snoopy edition? The white one, motivational one! Woo! What could you do in 14 seconds?
OMG, that would deffo be possible, I will see if I can fit it into the shooting schedule.
Thank you Gel, great suggestions.
Best regards,
TGV
Love it wood love one
I just found in my late father in-laws collection of watches a watch called josmar 17 jewels 5 ATM Swiss made diver unidirectional bezel red numbers date window white background just wondered if you know anything anything about this watch
God DAMN, TGV. That intro was blastin! You made my subwoofer shake the house, man.
Informative, entertaining- nuff said !
Thank you sir! :D

Nice watch but it does look over polished , if you freeze frame at 9.57 the top right lug looks dramatically thinner than the left lug.
