Hay Burner Sammy Nestico MacEwan Virtual Big Band

Due to Covid-19 the MacEwan Big Band were unable to finish the 2020 winter term and present their final concert. In addition, the big band also perform for all of the MacEwan University spring convocations and do a feature concert at the Edmonton International Jazz Festival. The first piece at the convocation ceremony was always either Queen Bee or Hay Burner, they work and they sound great. The band, took it upon themselves to get the music and virtually record these pieces from the safety of their own homes located in a number of western Canadian cities. Their parts were recorded on their phones, uploaded their files to lead trumpet, Marlouie Saique who then took it upon himself to put together the audio in Logic Pro X and DaVinci Resolve 16 for the video.
It was an amazing gift and a fitting conclusion to the season given the pandemic. I only hope that we get a chance to meet face-to-face and perform live again soon.
