It is true that the 2 words "socialism" and "secularism" were added by Indira Gandhi in 1976 when the opposition was put in jail. There was violation of fundamental rights because of which later a bill was passed so that the fundamental rights of people can be protected even in the case of an Emergency. There was a debate in the constituent assembly whether or not to add these 2 words in the constitution and the decision was in against as it was against the heart of the nation and bharat had always followed pluralism far before any constitution existed. All this being said truth remains that in today's date it is impossible to remove these 2 words from the constitution as there will be more protests against it with people who would know nothing about the topic giving the headcount for a mass protest.

The King's job was not limited to protecting or expanding it's borders but also making sure that his Praja; his subjects; were happy and satisfied. For this purpose, he would build and fund Annachatra; where one could get food for free. Vishramgruha; on the roads within his kingdoms; so that travellers could rest in safety. Not only the Kings, but the merchants as well. The most popular of the merchants was the one who contributed or donated to the community the most. One more place where socialism can be seen is Hindu temple and Sikh Gurudwara. Even today people irrespective of their social status are provided the food in Hindi temples and Sikh langars. Not now but in old days; priests who were skilled in healing practices cured the sick for free in Hindu temples. So who funded these Annachatra, Vishramgruha, temples and langar? They were Kings and wealthy merchants only. Now isn't that what socialism is? Everyone's unfulfilled basic needs will be fulfilled by those who are already satisfied? That's why I think that Socialism is a core concept of Hindu heritage and one who argues otherwise isn't familiar with our history at all.

@India Raj Actually no. The fascist economy of Germany was built in such a way that war was necessary for its survival. They took large loans from corporates in Germany which fueled their massive militarization and mobilisation of Germany. Which in turn worked in the economy's favor by creating jobs in weapons factories. The problem however was that there was no way of repaying the loans because.....well what would a corporation do with a squadron of tiger tanks Or missiles? So the only way of repaying such loans was going to war with a neighbor, winning said war and then pillaging the country for everything they have to pay back the loans. This model works only if you keep going to war and winning those wars. You could not lose the wars or even stop the wars. So it was not sustainable in the long term.

Socialism should be replaced by Welfare Capitalism. And Secularism should be practiced in it's exact meaning. You can't keep minority affairs on the basis of religion and secularism at the same time. If you want to make India a secular country then, 1. There should not be any concept of minority on the basis of religion, 2. There should not be any religious law. Uniform Civil Code must be introduced. 3. All religious places should be out of government controlled. At present time only Hindu temples are controlled by government, other religious places are independent. This is hypocrisy. 4. There should not be any government funded religious educational institutions. You can't teach quran and take money from government for that. Religious educational institutions must be private and should not be recognized by authority. These are some points which I think about our constitution.

I want to point out one thing that despite the words 'socialist' and 'secular' were added to the Preamble later, the word Secular was already mentioned under Article 25(2)(a) of the Constitution and the socialist scheme was mentioned in the Chapter IV on DPSP. Therefore, the makers of our Constitution did not deem it necessary to mention these concepts again in the Preamble. They were of the view that these are so inherent in the values of the people and the Constitution as a whole.

It is true that the 2 words "socialism" and "secularism" were added by Indira Gandhi in 1976 when the opposition was put in jail. There was violation of fundamental rights because of which later a bill was passed so that the fundamental rights of people can be protected even in the case of an Emergency. There was a debate in the constituent assembly whether or not to add these 2 words in the constitution and the decision was in against as it was against the heart of the nation and bharat had always followed pluralism far before any constitution existed.
All this being said truth remains that in today's date it is impossible to remove these 2 words from the constitution as there will be more protests against it with people who would know nothing about the topic giving the headcount for a mass protest.

Not only the Kings, but the merchants as well. The most popular of the merchants was the one who contributed or donated to the community the most.
One more place where socialism can be seen is Hindu temple and Sikh Gurudwara. Even today people irrespective of their social status are provided the food in Hindi temples and Sikh langars. Not now but in old days; priests who were skilled in healing practices cured the sick for free in Hindu temples.
So who funded these Annachatra, Vishramgruha, temples and langar? They were Kings and wealthy merchants only. Now isn't that what socialism is? Everyone's unfulfilled basic needs will be fulfilled by those who are already satisfied?
That's why I think that Socialism is a core concept of Hindu heritage and one who argues otherwise isn't familiar with our history at all.
There are certain stupid people who destroy hinduism.
They should read Arthashashtra of Kautilya to learn socialism was a part of our national administrative system.

They took large loans from corporates in Germany which fueled their massive militarization and mobilisation of Germany. Which in turn worked in the economy's favor by creating jobs in weapons factories.

Socialism should be replaced by Welfare Capitalism. And Secularism should be practiced in it's exact meaning. You can't keep minority affairs on the basis of religion and secularism at the same time. If you want to make India a secular country then,
1. There should not be any concept of minority on the basis of religion,
2. There should not be any religious law. Uniform Civil Code must be introduced.
3. All religious places should be out of government controlled. At present time only Hindu temples are controlled by government, other religious places are independent. This is hypocrisy.
4. There should not be any government funded religious educational institutions. You can't teach quran and take money from government for that. Religious educational institutions must be private and should not be recognized by authority.
These are some points which I think about our constitution.

Before asking whether it's time to remove the word " secular " from the constitution or not . Try to find out wether ever there was a need to add the word " secular " to the constitution .
yes there was - our constitution is built with secular bricks - but it was put in the preamble to remind bigots that we are not a fundamentalist nation that is intolerant to others

I want to point out one thing that despite the words 'socialist' and 'secular' were added to the Preamble later, the word Secular was already mentioned under Article 25(2)(a) of the Constitution and the socialist scheme was mentioned in the Chapter IV on DPSP. Therefore, the makers of our Constitution did not deem it necessary to mention these concepts again in the Preamble. They were of the view that these are so inherent in the values of the people and the Constitution as a whole.
This was a hot topic and was also mentioned in the constituent assembly debates. Little did they know people will take it so out of context.
Sadly this day has come when the words like 'secular' and people who talk about it are being considered nonsense.

But how did indra gandhi amended the preamble and added secularism and socialism. Preamble which was adopted in 1950 cannot be amended.
