The Sandwich that's Breaking the Internet... Reinvented
So this sandwich is breaking the internet according to @samthecookingguy so I needed to try to make it... but vegan!
BUT I wanted to try another idea I had, so I made the chopped Italian, but I also dove into 1 other sandwich that came out REALLY good... like really good!
No mixing bowls needed, nothing to prep, just toss it all on a cutting board and go haha

Monica has the best job in the world as food taster. 😂
Her opinion is the most important! 😂😊❤
Nice to see you here 🐼🗑️ Imma make this Sammy this week
It's easier to feed a crowd with chopped sandwich filling. More of the work is moved into prep, plus it's easier to stretch the expensive ingredients without anyone noticing.
I totally consider Tofurky to be the OG of fake meat. The textures they put out are fantastic, and they back it up with great flavor. Go, Tofurky! Gofurky!!! 📣
I accidentally made Tofurky. I was doing Mary's Test Kitchen's recipe for chickeny seitan. I guess I over kneaded it and then when put in my Instant Pot, I wrapped it really tight. It came out like a Tofurky loaf, but it was a pretty good mistake. I doubt I could replicate it, though😂
@@thatonegirlelaine Oooooh! I think you’ve just come up with a new challenge for me to try! 😁 Thanks!
@@mickefy682 You're welcome! I'd love to know how it comes out!
Everyone laughs when I say Tofurkey but it’s incredibly delicious ❤
I wish it wasn't so salty though....🥺
When I went to college, the sub shop made
“sub in a cup”. It was a Any sub, chopped and served in a pint takeaway cup. Easy to eat on the run!
Nice!!! Yeah that would be awesome!
Chopped sandwiches seem like a great idea when eaten fresh, but I’m not sure they’d hold up if you had to pack it up to eat later. Especially love the idea of your chickUn BacUn ranch one!
So I think its preference!! Like for me, I kinda like when it sits for a bit, Im a soggy fan... but like Monica... she's not a soggy fan so Im sure she wouldn't like it if it sat much longer than what it did here!
Im a soggy fan. I like flavors to meld
you could probably put the filling in a seperate container and put it on the bread when you want to eat it
In Austria we have something similar. It's called 'gefüllter Wecken' and it is just a loaf of white bread, hollowed out and filled with what you have. When it is chilled overnight, it slices better..
That vegan chicken bacon ranch chopped sandwich is some seriously galaxy-brain stuff! I've seen people talking about the chopped sandwich but wasn't sure it could easily be made veggie-friendly, so thank you so much for showing that it's totally feasible!😊
This would work well as a wrap too. Good idea.
Thank you for all your work. When I first went plant based, I was mostly eating basic mashed potatoes and beans and rice.
Hello!! I'm still hoping you'll do a seafood series soon!!!
I need to work on some things for sure!! I have some ideas coming!!
Seeing you still use daring and tofurky makes me feel a bit less lazy for using them a lot and not making my own, not gonna lie 🤣
Theres a place that i love going to that makes an awesome chopped sub. It has grilled peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, collards, onions, mushrooms, lettuce, mayo and cheese. No veggie meat needed.
Rehydrating bacon bits is blowing my mind! I’m gonna bulk buy some and have some “fresh” bacon dishes ASAP
Also, what if you made a burger w/ the bacon bits and VWG or other binders like the hot dog burger you did?
hahah heck yeah!!! Also I need to think about that burger idea!!! Thats not a bad idea, Im wondering if it might be too salty, but if it's only a portion of the burger it might work!! !
What's VWG?
@@Sheri... vital wheat gluten
FYI you can scrap off the burnt bits from the bread with a knife.
haha yeah I should of, but it really wasnt as bad as it looked on camera!
I've been juicing and I'm home from work today and actually just made a lettuce, tomato onion and vegan mayo sandwich using 647 rye bread. Oil and vinegar. So full and fun. Lol. ❤
Nice!! That sounds awesome!!
I love how you take inspiration from other channels. It's like you're not just a TH-cam creator, but you're one of us, a subscriber/viewer.
On that note, have you ever watched any episodes from Epicurious?
No black olives? HARUMPH!!!😊
hahaha not for me!!! not a huge fan of black olives.... I doooo like Kalamata olives but only in pasta weirdly. I need to try em in a sandwich soon
GOOD AFTERNOON SAUCYMAN!
I like the idea of the shopped sandwich lol. It practically assures that you get a bite of every single bit of the sandwich, every time.
Christopher!!!! It was pretty dang good!!!! I think that’s the biggest benefit!! Like the flavor meld
Always like your videos. This looks like a great idea. It gave me the idea to make a chopped breakfast tortilla using just egg, vegan sausage, chao cheese, last night's left over fries and salsa.
@SauceStache Great video! Gave me some new ideas for what I call my vegan salad sandwich’s and wraps. 😊 I’ve been making vegan salads (chopping everything up) and putting them into vegan wraps, rolls, and my favorite bread for over 5 years. Just because I like how salads taste with toasted bread. 😊
Basically chopped cheese was what this sandwich is long before it became trendy
yeah pretty much!!! Just adapted!
Yup, chopped salad on a bun.
I do a chopped balogna, cheese american and cheddar, green olives, pepperoncini, mayo, Italian vinegarette, mama lil peppers. I add green and red cabbage over lettuce.❤
I am drooling reading this sandwich idea!! Never heard of Mama Lil's peppers, just looked them up - a whole line of jarred goathorn peppers, I must look for them. Which do you use - sweet or hot?
The second one looked so appealing. Wow. ❤ you upped it in a Boss way amazing
Thank you for this video. I can’t wait to make these sandwiches 🤩
You can always scrape off the burnt parts of toast or that roll, just use a knife over the sink!
Not like I have any grounds to give you cooking advice, but maybe toast the rolls after you get everything in a pile. Then you are only toasting during the chopping bit. You are less likely to over-toast. I would be too distracted organizing my ingredients to toast at the start. (I like a dark toast, so neither of those seemed too overdone. It would have to be on fire for me to bail on it.) I really like your responses to all the cooking trends! Keep up the great work!
I love you both!!!! Such warm inviting spirits!
You’re looking great and healthy with your weight loss ❤ I’m going to make some of these chopped vegan sandwich’s! I think all do a Greek version! Thanks!
All I got to do is chop chop my stuff and put it on a toasted bun lol. I like it. That should be a new subway type thing lol.
Building the ranch in the sandwich is such a cool concept!
Those sandwiches look amazing!!!
Thank you soo much!! They were really good!
The first french fry sandwich I had was in Paris, France over 30 years ago. I thought how odd but I was hooked!!!!
Great! Keep up the good work!
Thank you!! again! You rock!
Yummy! Can't wait to try this.
It came out pretty good!! Better than I thought
Visiting this channel after many years.
I recognise the voice but not the person.
Great job buddy!
Nice to see you use Bacon bits, I’ve been adding them to sandwiches, potatoes for years, non vegans told me that its weird. ❤
ahhh I love em!!! I dont use them all the time but we definitely use them!
Not weird, since I learned a long time ago that bacon bits often are vegan. Maybe people are mentally categorizing vegans with kosher and/or halal? Guessing; idk
I was so happy to learn that McCormick's Bacon Bits are vegan! Oohh, and using them on baked potatoes sounds great, maybe with some cheese melted on?
It annoys me when non-vegans offer opinions on vegan dietary habits.
One would think: wow, a great idea, no tomato slices sliding out.
Well, now everything is falling out haha :D But the the textures and flavors are for sure more evenly distributed throughout the whole thing!
I used to make these chopped salads back in the 1980s but, instead of putting them in a sandwich (it never even occurred to me to do that) I would mix in some couscous with oil and lemon dressing. Delicious.
Ah! I do weekly meal preps because I want to save $$$ and I am a very busy working woman almost everyday. What I do is to separate the carbo (such as bread, rice noodles, and rice) and the mixed fillings. I like to mix veggies, protein (such as beans), and some spices as a filling because they meddle together very well. When it is the time to eat, I just toast a bread (or reheat rice) and take out the bagged mixed filling from my fridge. I just put them together along with my choice of condiments. That's it. Because I prefer separating the carbos and the fillings, I am not a fan of overnight soggy sandwiches and moldy sandwiches. A very hard bread is another story-- I can mix the very hard bread (chopped bite sizes) in this filling prior to my dinner time, so the bread would be a bit soft (and easy on my teeth). :P
I love sandwiches and i will give this a try
Yum. Yes I will try it.
I like soup with my sandwich for dipping in. I'll use tomato soup for the bacon chick Wich.
I make a chopped salad. Same thing just without the bread.
Yup!! Exact same idea! I love a good chopped salad
They both look amazing ❤❤❤
I think y’all need to try that in a burrito wrap cut in half! A good dipping sauce would be great. That’s really similar to chick fillet’s veggie wraps
As someone that isn't a fan of the texture and potential sliminess of vegan deli meat .. I think I'll definitely give this one a try. Well, both actually, but definitely the 1st one too, as it seems like something you could make the night before, leave in a container, and bring to work the next day with the bread separate.
Tofurky deli slices are not actually slimy. You can always just pay to me off with a paper towel if you don't like any hint of moisture. If it's really slimy, it's been in the fridge too long. I actually freeze portions myself and warm them up in the convection oven before eating. The same is true for other brands.
funny. in brazil we call it American Lettuce
I love chopped salads-a little bit of everything and is easy to eat. I'm assuming Monica's comments is spot on.
I'm not a vegan..but I love your videos ! and can you do a recipe with puffball mushrooms?
I like this idea. I need to look into getting some vegan meat and cheese. I can't eat lettuce, but I could do coleslaw!
that looks fantastic
Yumness. I love me some chopped salads. Lately I’ve been ‘saladizing’ my favorite meals just to see if I can create some new & interesting things & let me tell you! I’ve hit the jackpot. I started with a Loaded Baked Potato Chopped Salad, used seasoned hash brown patties (warm, it’s a nice contrast in a cold salad), chopped them up, fakin bacon, romaine, cabbage, white onion, Fresh Dressing of fresh dill, rosemary, sage, thyme, garlic, black pepper, white pepper, Maldon Sea Salt & ‘cheeze’ (nooch) in a Tahini base, top with chopped chives... dude 🤯
I also just did a Beyond Burger chopped salad... Chef’s 💋
So many possibilities
Vegan chopped crab or lobster roll salads are also phenomenal, I make that quite often
Wow, you should publish a cookbook. These recipes sound outrageous!
You can scrape off the burnt areas of bread with a knife, do it in the sink.
I just realised those chopped sandwches are essentialyl what we have here, which is called guedille (pronounced ged-eel)
I’ve probably made this with all kinds of vegan meat before and I’ve chopped up the salads always except the vegan meats so I’m guessing not something new for me personally but overall a nice video and I gotta be honest when you make something, even if it’s done and dusted you make it all the more special !!! Great job!!
Btw I’m still waiting on the lovely Monica making something for you to eat like I said before in the last video😅
Love your kitchen. Who cleans up the mess? 😊
man this looks so damn good.
Are you from Youngstown!?!? I've been watching you for a while and did not realize that. Loved that Antone's salad before I moved south.
Born and raised!! Moved to Florida when I was 24... Grew up on Antone's!!
@@SauceStache Crazy! Same. I moved to Georgia a few years ago. I miss decent pizza. Love the videos!
I think Chicken bacon ranch usually has avocado in it! Great video mark!
Ohhhh good call! That woulda been good
I just made one with broccoli, green onions, banana peppers, tomato, and baby spinach, on toasted sourdough with mayo, olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. It was delicious!
Great video ❣️🎁 thank you 🙏
Definitely trying this. I was hoping to see someone do a vegan version and your video is perfect! I will probably do the vegan chickun bacun ranch and use kraft plant based ranch dressing and add some vegan follow your heart feta cheese along with the veggies you have and some impossible nuggets, maybe a little olive oil and balsalmic vinegar, kind of a mash up of the 2 sandwiches you made, should be yummy!
I would add some sautéed mushrooms😊
Okay, so all I can say is that this was amazing. I tried the second one but choice to cook some mushrooms instead of chik'n protein and used fresh bok choy instead of lettuce. Oh, and I did add some vegan cheese. Still light and delicious. I used fresh dill and fresh chives. SOOO GOOD!
I like these style videos without the naration. Another great one! Thanks!
Thank you!! I used to exclusively be on camera and kinda ducked out for a bit!! But im glad Im back, it feels good!
Off-topic, but have you seen Thought Emporium's "Chicken Soup from Chemicals" video? Might be worth tinkering with his recipe. Main difficulty is finding plant-based cysteine; most of the stuff out there is made from feathers/hair.
It has NEVER occurred to me to rehydrate bacon bits! This is blowing my mind 😆
It reminds me of the texture of a poboy or tuna fish style. Easy to eat.
Very good video - I understand why people are loving the sandwiches this way. It's like a chopped salad vs a regular one. Question - your kitchen is beautifully designed and spotless (hey, at least on camera!) and then you use a pan that is (I assume) in the midst of becoming seasoned and non-stick but currently unappetizing to look at. I believe that your goal is to have a beautifully seasoned pan of one color but in the meantime, could you put the bread in a toaster oven or salamander or cleaner-looking pan? It would help make it more appetizing, as would opting to either scrape the charred bread or make a new one - the fact that you said it wasn't as bad as it appeared tells me that somewhere inside, you knew it was in need of excuse to be considered food. Just make a new one and let us know that you have standards both in the food you are cooking for us to see and for the food you're about to offer your wife!
Yes!! Youngstown representing!! I miss those monkey salads-looking forward to trying this!
I eat vegan because I have gall bladder issues and it prevents me from having an attack. But processed food is processed food... Tofurkey definitely has great texture and flavor, but after eating it a couple times, I had another gall bladder attack. I need to keep almost everything homemade.
Oooohhhhhhh with violife feta, cabbage, and sun dried tomatoes that would be lovely
Oh man, you forget some pickles! Grillos would be awesome in there.
I honestly have a big underbite and space between my lower and upper middle teeth so chopped sandwiches are kinda necessary for me because i cant tear without pulling it to the corners of my mouth... guess that doesn't really matter but yeah, i still make it have texture and taste but chopped is good.
If you get a butter knife you can scrape the burnt bits off of toast 🙃
another take on muffelleta (spelling ?). gonna try it!
just use a wrap... while struggle with the 🥖. you can chop the bread and put it in the wrap as well 😂
whole half, yunz really are from the burb of the burgh!
When I was a kid in Italy my Nonna used to get the let over salad and put it on the fresh breast rolls. This has been around for decades. 🤷♀️. Maybe it depends if you chop your salad up small. Yes it’s delicious but there’s nothing new about it..
When you go to the retirement village they vitamize the whole lot still tastes the same 😂
Such a flexible idea👍you can use your knife to scrape the burn off your bread if it's too burnt-fyi😉
It's weird how many comments are "you don't eat meat, why eat a meat substitute?"
So you're definitely more plant based now. I remembered watching you and didn't know if you were Vegan or not❤❤❤❤😄
I love tofurkey too honestly. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! My boyfriend and I go to Publix a lot and get the subs there. Only $8.99 for a monster vegan sub with vegan Chao cheese, tofurkey, vegan bacon, whatever toppings …
I don’t know if you and your wife have heard, but I believe you’re in Florida so you have Publix too??
Careful! Publix uses animal products in their bread. I know it's a shame
I think my ocd/anxiety wouldn't be able to handle the messy side effects of that sandwich! Lol
I'd still try it, but be freaking out every time bits of food drops. 😂
You could always try it in a wrap, so things are a little more contained! 💕
@@autumnrain7918
Ooh yea, and I love wraps already. So win/win!
@@andrewwashere82 Super win! Let me know how it turns out if/when you try this!
@@autumnrain7918
For sure, if I remember. Lol
@autumnrain7918
It might be awhile, I'm slowly transitioning to a plant based. The whole "make sure you talk to a Dr before starting a new diet" has me scared of rushing into it.
Like... Make a salad a put it in a sandwich? I guess it's more efficient to chop everything together but honestly I've been chopping individual ingredients and mixing them together before putting them on bread. Doesn't seem like a revolutionary idea.
Looks tasty but I'll probably stick to not chopping my sandwiches since it seems soooo messy.
Look delicious! 👍👍👍👍👍
Chao is the best. They have a smoked one that he still out like provolone
so cool to watch monica go from being what seems like camera shy to an Anton Ego. 🔍
I really have trouble with these kinds of sandwiches just because I hate the mess so much. I don’t want to sit at the table with my family for a meal, take a bite only to have the sandwich disgorge its contents onto my plate, shirt, table, and any cats lurking underfoot. It’s just not pleasant. To be fair, I dislike overstuffed deli sandwiches for the same reason. Maybe I’ve got an abnormally small mouth, but I cannot comfortably fit a massive egg salad sandwich (sorry, vegetarian, not vegan) with lettuce, tomato, and cucumbers on sturdy pumpernickel bread in my mouth to take a bite. If I order from a deli, I always end up scooping 2/3 the filling out and saving it for another sandwich. Have I become that old person who complains about everything now? Gods I hope not.
Oh yeah, I’m still fond of Tofurky and buy it now and then. Tofu Pups are still kind of sad in my opinion, but thankfully there’s plenty of decent vegan hot dog brands on the market now.
I just made one using onion rings and oh my God I'm dying
OMG what a great idea!! I bet that was wild
@@SauceStache sure was. Mixed it with scrambled Eggs (im vegeterian), vegan sausage, lettuce, tomatoes, red wine vinegar, and a vegan bbq/mayo sauce. All on a flatbread, Chalupa style. Super clutch. Feel free to steal that one for a video lol.
There is a version of 'Scrambled eggs' I used to make with soybeans. Soak, whiz in blender, add chik type of seasoning with other spices. Can pour into fry pan & Scramble as like real eggs, if you decide to try this.
Am not sure but it's possible to try other types of beans. I don't shun soy like some.
Kate Burk, I would love the recipe for these soy eggs!
I saw a girl make a vegan chopped sandwich and she sautéed her vegan meats in a bit of oil prior to assembling.
I think the possibilities are endlesss! Someone commented on here they used onion rings in theirs haha 😂 but sounds like an awesome idea
When you burn bread just use a knife to scrape off the burnt layer.
I'm going to make one... in my mouth.... after making the normal sandwich.😅
BWHAHAH ok thats funny!!
Whoa. Wait. Did you say Youngstown? Are you from Ohio? I'm in a burb of Cleveland ( yeah, I know lol). Love your channel!!! OH!
Best ever first date meal! Mmmmm
I love big sandwiches but most of the time the roof of my mouth gets sore from eating such a hefty boi, especially when the crust is too crispy. :(
I would just throw the whole situation in my food processor and keep it moving. Feels like way too much effort. To be honest I’d just put the stuff on the bread. Sandwich could be ate.
Not a bad idea haha
I am going to make a chopped vegan sandwich. This is happening. I'll eat it over a plate and eat whatever falls out with a spoon.
