DEAREST JOSIE AND CHARLIE , HELLO SWEET DARLINGS , HOW DO YOU DO ? YOUR COTTAGE IS GORGEOUS . JOB WELL DONE . CONGRATULATIONS DARLINGS . 😊😍😘WITH LOVE , PRAYERS , HUGS , AND SWEET KISSES , FROM ME , AND MY FAMILY , " THE ROTHSCHILD'S . " FAREWELL MY SWEET DARLINGS , AND THE FURRY BOYS . 😍😍😍😍😘
PUB😁 It’s all looking so, so beautiful… You’ve done an amazing job! ♥️ May I ask- Are your linen trousers true to size? and …what is the paint colour you’ve used in the sitting room at the cottage please?
It's gorgeous! A few thoughts: Tables or empty shelves in the bathrooms for cosmetic bags, etc. Hooks for clothes, robes in bathrooms. Each sitting spot should have easy access to a table. Table lamps are crucial, there are never enough provided for ambiance at night. Folding luggage racks in bedrooms so travel bags don't get placed on the beds. Coasters for drinks. Bathroom floor mats. Rugs to step on beside beds. Toothbrush cups. Vases for flowers. Bread baskets, bowls, tray, and place-mats for the tables inside and out. Wastebaskets and tissues in bathrooms and bedrooms. A small lamp in the kitchen.
Some of the places I’ve stayed have included things in an information packet like emergency numbers…police, fire station, EMT, local doctor/dentist, etc. Also, it’s always wonderful to have recommended restaurants, location of churches, nearby trails. A bit of local history is fun as well. Definitely a first aid kit. Good luck! Hope everything works out wonderfully.
I think you need a tv in the lounge - especially in the winter - curled up with a hot chocolate after a day of exploring and if your guests have children.
Agree. Screen is a must. Smart TVs so quest can project their own content. A Samsung picture frame tv above the unit would be in keeping with the look you want.
The Cottage is looking gorgeous. One thing I would say, mattress and pillow protectors ( I see you didn’t use any). Love the kitchen it’s beautiful and the courtyard ❤️🌻
I think white bath robes are a must. They can be bleached and white shows that they are clean and no staining. White towels and bed sheets always as well.
@@debbievidal9536 Yes Debbie, could not agree more, the idea of the green robes is nice but if you have white bedlinen, pillowcases, sheets, bathrobes then you can bung in a little well diluted bleach (which I do) for your wash and do it all together in the one load. Turn on the washing machine immediately! I have very sensitive skin and always, always, do an extra rinse and spin with the bleach as an extra precaution.
Consider putting a journal/diary in the cottage for your guests to write an entry! Maybe give them a prompt: “Tell us about your favourite excursion/restaurant/shop” - that way new guests can read what other guests have done in the area before them. On the same note, leave a feedback card as well.
It looks so good Josie, you and Charlie did such a great job! May I suggest you get a Trivet for hot pots and plates, so your straw top guests don't ruin your beautiful countertops! PUB!
That’s a good idea about local art work. You could maybe show and swop around new artists work and details how to buy it. A guest book would be good. For people to note their experiences and ideas for future guests to do. Xx
Hi Josie and Charlie, the cottage is beautiful. My additions would be: A rail going up the stairs to the top level, older guests will need it or children who always run and up down staircases. Shelf or shelf unit in bathroom for guests to put their bits and bobs. Foldable luggage holders. TV for sure, cold rainy days would be great to pop on the tv. I love the bathroom but the wooden toilet seat pulls you out of the aesthetic. Mattress pads for sure. Hamper with local goodies. You have done a great job and I am sure all your guests will love their stay!! PUB!!
Josie I guess I’m old school, I agree with Charlie, I like the idea of a informative book with everything your guest would need to know. Yes a full length mirror is a must, the bathroom is spectacular!
Also, I agree with Charlie. A book of local info is far more personal than a tablet. I work for a well known tour operator which has gone almost 100% digital with all info on app and the majority of guests are not happy with this change. Many don't enjoy high tech.
The cottage is looking fabulous! The only things I noticed, was that you should definitely put a thick mattress pad on your fancy mattresses before the sheets. You want to protect those expensive mattresses. Although the iPad idea is awesome for us techie types, perhaps not all your guests will be as savvy. I also thought of an idea for above the kitchen sink… What about a square made up of vintage tiles? If you don’t want to put the tiles directly on the wall, you could do a DIY project where you put the tiles on a thin board, grout it, and then make a thin wooden frame to surround it.
Such a lovely cottage! You guys did a lot of work! Some suggestions….please promise me that you’ll put waterproof/ plastic mattress cover on those beds, along with mattress protector and pillow protectors. They will get ruined and stinky without covers. Include a clock or alarm clock, pen and paper, emergency phone numbers and waste paper baskets. Buy white bathrobes so that they can be bleached and sanitized. A toilet plunger in case it gets stuck. Hope you read these great tips. See you in the next one! ❤️
Looks beautiful Josie and Charlie, personally would not wear wellies that have been worn by other guests so maybe not waste your money doing that. Tv also a good idea to have for those cosy evenings by the fire.
I agree - one of my favorite things to do when visiting the UK is watching BBC at night all cozied up. Maybe just me but it's something fun and different for foreigners :)
When you have guests starting to come, then partner with local restaurants, shops, pubs, tourist activities, etc. to give a special discount card for their products and services exclusively to guests who are staying at Strawtop. That will be an additional "perk" for anyone who stays there that you can advertise in your marketing. Congratulations on such a monumental accomplishment!
Love how you actually put in nice quality bits in instead of just shoving in old things like a lot of bnb places do. The quality makes a huge difference.
Hi! The cottage looks brilliant lots of brilliant attention to detail! Personally I think the magnetic knife rack is needs to be moved it seems like it would be very easily accessed by a child. I would agree with Charlie a physical book is better especially if people aren’t tech savvy. I presume you have a first aid box (we stayed somewhere that had a first aid box and it came in handy after a hike!). Best of luck with it.
I agree with having a physical book. There is something more ‘cozy’ about items that are more tactile. Also your tablet may just, I hate to say it… ‘walk away’.
Pub ❤️ I have to agree with Charlie, after having run an air bnb for 3 years and staying in many, the physical book that explains how things work, places to go etc was the one thing that guests always appreciated. Be prepared for breakages and mishaps and try and have a cool head as it is a business, and clients sometimes have a different approach when they are paying. I have no doubt that this will add a lot of benefits to your life and provide you with loads of anecdotal stories ;)
Bottle of wine in the fridge. The amount of times I've gotten somewhere after a long drive arguing with my partner about directions etc. and the small kindness of a ready glass of wine is immeasurable. Might be quite fun to stock English wine to go with your British made interests as well. If I didn't already have friends with a house in the area I'd want to stay at Strawtop it looks lovely! ❤️
Looks absolutely beautiful!! You’ve done such a fab job! One idea that I think could be lovely is to buy art from local artists or vintage pieces that depict the local area, always a touch I’ve loved in cottages we’ve stayed in in the past. Plus nice to support local creatives and potential for guests to discover them too 😊
Great idea. Love to area carpet up there but it looks awkward under that bed. Nothing showed on sides where folks step out of bed and to. Unfortunately, also agree with living room furniture. Nice but not together.
A guest book is a must! People will write exactly what they think and this can be really useful feedback. You will also see when people rebook and so will other guests. It’s amusing reading when guests arrive. Fresh flowers of course (or great fake ones.) It all looks amazing. What a beautiful cottage.
I love how you guys are putting your heart and soul into this!!! I wish you nothing but the best and all God’s blessings🙂, and big big hugs your way 🤗🤗🤗🤗
You need a little basket to leave the ‘goodies in’ - or have some more of the Strawtop jute bags made - fill it with goodies and a little welcome note from you both about the products and letting your guests keep the bag to take home any wonderful things they might buy during their stay
Pub. Such fun to watch you all putting finishing touches! Hand held Can opener. Cheese board? Napkins, Coasters that will protect furniture, high quality dish soap in attractive container. Bathroom hand towels.
Looks absolutely amazing .You have chosen such beautiful quality goods , I would definitely be enjoying a staycation at Strawtop Cottage . Tissues , coasters ,personalised note from you both would be a lovely touch . Also I would highly recommend mattress protection on those lovely mattresses and pillow protectors . Can’t wait to see more xx
I live in Devon and have friends who run a beautiful Cornish retreat. They always have a luxury hamper with local produce favourites ready for their guests. They work with local businesses to provide these hampers as It’s great for local advertising. Local gin and wine ect and They also place little treats on the pillows and so goodie bags with keep sakes to take away and remember what a fab time they had. Your cottage is looking amazing 🤩 well done I’m definitely looking forward to booking a stay. Xx
Beautiful! I think the bathroom needs a shelf , glass shelf with brass holders, (maybe over the towel rack). Need a place in the shower to put shampoo, conditioner, soap.
Omg you were spot on with the bathroom. I don't want to gush but it is stunning. The shower doors make that room look huge You could use those sigbs that adhere to glass and removes right off like the signs on cars. They make them for model homes and your guest could simply remove it once they saw it.. No matter what you do it is simply gorgeous!
I worked in a self catering cottage for about 18 years! We had a fantastic visitors book for everyone to write comments in good & bad and guests loved reading them because some were hilarious! 😂 we had to do a detailed instruction book for using everything from the washing machine dryer. The gas heating, showers , oven! We had to put a list of rules of what wasn't allowed as someone tried to have a bbq inside once 😂 we also kept paint because everyone scuffed the walls on the way up the stairs with suitcases! A list of emergency numbers is also handy for plumber's n electricians. We would also put info out for local shops and restaurants that were popular x
You and Charlie have done a wonderful job putting so much of yourselves in the cottage. One note on the bathroom mirror. I think a bigger mirror is a must. The two sconces are beautiful but one light above a bigger mirror would still be beautiful but more useful for the guess. Plus I just don’t think a skinny mirror will look right in that space. Wishing you best of luck on this adventure.
It’s looking lovely! Can’t wait to see it once you have added art/pictures on the walls to really warm it up and make it complete. A guest book that can be signed with their name, where they are from and a comment about their stay. You may also want to consider having dried stems/branches in some of your vases that can add height and they don’t have to be replaced like live plants or flowers. You’ve done an excellent job! Congratulations!🥂💗🥂
We love having fresh flowers and a fresh fruit bowl in our room when we stay somewhere. You did a fantastic job with the cottage. Wish we could stay there; maybe some day when all this craziness is over and we feel safe to travel abroad.
Paused the video to say...extras that melt my heart, is a food and water dish for the dog, with a treat biscuit in the food bowl. Really makes you feel welcomed with your dog. Also, I find a quest book lots of fun where your quests can leave comments, and future quests can read about the last quest’s visit. A great record. Now, back to the video 👏
It’s looking lovely, I just hope you get respectful guests as you have spent a lot of money on this cottage and you mentioned putting Dyson products in the bedroom! 🌻 I would be disappointed without a TV, so maybe a good idea to have one. An information folder would be good ie how to use the appliances and places to visit. PUB
One amazing touch that an Airbnb host left for us was in Barcelona. They left pre-paid transportation/subway cards for all the guests along with a comprehensive guide on how to use them. It was so lovely and we didn’t have to worry about deciphering the transport system. I know you’re in the country, but just wanted to share!! 😊
The cottage looks amazing! The only suggestion I have so far is to put seat cushions on the little dining table seats. It's one of the first things I look for when dining as I have an issue with my hip and it can make a huge difference. X
Spectacular Josie!! My aunt had an ocean rental and she had a little guest book where folks could jot down their names, where they were from, and any comments they may have about their stay if they wanted to. Like the cottage or favorite place they visited while there etc Well done you two!!!! You inspire me!!
A few thoughts for when I've stayed at cottages I loved that they had a manual to explain details of what's included in cottage to use. Leaving main items in fridge etc . Loving your videos josie
I think a tv is essential because of the weather is awful a cosy evening in May be on the cards, a discreet picture one. The cottage is amazing I hope nothing gets broken. I wish fairy liquid did vintage glass bottles because that would be great. I think local eggs butter, honey jam and milk is great. Don’t leave an iPad it will get broken and books suit the aesthetic of your lovely cottage. It all looks wonderful. Pub.
I actually disagree! Why would you want to watch TV on a holiday when you could read, go for a walk or just relax with your companions? I recently stayed at an Airbnb in the country with no wifi, tv or signal and it was honestly the most refreshing and incredible experience. Children do not need TVs! They are more than capable to read and play and just be kids.
@@Jilly13bean12 I don't really understand the negativity in your comment, but allow me to explain: I guess it's just a parenting difference but my kids prefer to read, explore and actually play. We don't allow excessive screen time because it's clearly degenerative when it comes to social behaviour and achieving motor skill milestones. Sticking a screen in front of your kids every time you want to distract them is not beneficial for their development and can lead to some pretty bad behavioural issues in their future. This is not a judgement on those that do, just justifying why we choose not to. It's obviously a parenting choice to give your children excessive screen time, but surely there are better things to do on a lovely holiday than that. Hope that clears things up for you!
Such a beautiful cottage 💖 you guys have worked so hard. Well done!! 1) definitely include a beautiful visitors book. I love looking through a visitor book as so many people enjoy sharing top tips for the area/cottage/walks/shops etc Even though you have too its always nice to read other peoples comments. Its like a unique diary of the cottage 2) shelf below mirror in bathroom 3) mattress & pillow protectors 4) pack of playing cards 5) people do like a TV 6) paint yn stairs in the wardrobe 7) art work of local artists (possible available to buy) 8) outside fire pit? Or nice light/burner
Everything looks beautiful and inviting! Only thing I noticed it lacked were linens for the bathroom like a hand towel or bath mat. I saw you provided towels on the bed for showering but just something for hand washing near the sink there and in place. I would love to visit Straw Top someday ❤️
Josie....it's not embarrassing. He is an unabridged cool Charlie. Be happy he's just like he is! You are a lucky lady. All of your videos are gems. Thank you
You might need a little link to how to make a kindling fire - for anyone who stays and has never made one (we had that in a cottage we stayed in) also a book with all the appliance booklets - for people to use the cooker, hob, dishwasher, fridge and washing machine. Plus menu’s from local restaurants and shops is always useful.
Anything You and Charlie Do or Touch is Going to be AMAZING, You Guy's are One Couple that Really Work As A Team and Will have many Years of Success. BLESSINGS to You Both
Congratulations Josie & Charlie. So on point with your interior design and decor. Just lovely!! Strawtop Cottage is a place I would certainly go out of my way to stay. Since you asked for feedback here's mine. Please note I'm from the US so 'must-haves' may be different than locals or overnighters. Coming from the US we travel for months on end when we cross the pond. Plenty of hangers/clip hangers, bench to open up a suitcase(s) (I hate putting suitcases on the beds!), vanity with mirror or area to put on makeup, top quality linens and pillows, shelving in the bathroom for toiletries, super Wi-Fi, a fan, a workspace. Practical stuff I know but after a long day of sightseeing, you long for creature comforts. The touches I love is being received by the host (I'm usually nervous turning on things until I have a walkthru. I don't want to break anything). A welcome food/beverage basket is also so lovely especially when filled with healthy items, fresh cream for coffee. I hope my thoughts are helpful. Again congratulations!
I have never seen so much care go into a property of this kind, you two are wonderful! Wishing I could find someplace like this stateside. From the leads, to the dyson hair care products, quality cookware, and buying local- it’s all so impressive and just so gorgeous!
My husband and I stayed at a little cottage in the Texas Hill Country once and two things stood out. First, there was a resident cat, Simon, who came inside for a cuddle, quite nice. Second, there was a journal for guests to leave their impressions and apparently, Simon likes to inspects all the guests, lol. It was nice to read previous guests' comments and experiences.
Pub! Hi Josie, Thank you, for just how hard you work to bring us these fabulous flogs each week. Tuesdays, are my favorite flog days from you. I love the variety of your content, and I truly enjoy following along with the process of renovating, decorating, and furnishing your home and cottage with so many creative and wonderful results. Regarding the cottage, in my opinion, I think it would be especially important to keep everything authentically English-made: The soaps, bedding, towels, food items, and wine, etc. After all, this is the exact quintessential experience your guests would be anticipating and would appreciate, especially; for those coming to stay from abroad. Also, I think that your courtyard/patio/garden area would benefit from placing two potted lemon trees. Not only would it elevate the aesthetics of the area, but it would be so nice for your guests to be able to use fresh lemons for their tea, hot or iced, or a glass of freshly squeezed lemon water first thing in the morning (which is so good for cleansing the liver). In that case, be sure to provide a citrus squeezer in the cottage kitchen as well.
PUB! What a lovely and sweet cottage. Gorgeous interior finishes and WHAT a bathroom! I'm TEAM COLT AND WILLOW. It's those special little touches that will make guests feel special.
Oh ….my….goodness! I love it 🥰 Stylish & cosy. A cottage we once stayed in had a welcome bouquet in an old enamel jug in the kitchen, it was so welcoming, with a personal hand written note. We also had a bottle of fizz as they knew we were celebrating. How about a chalk board over the sink.. to welcome guests? I think yes for a TV.. especially during the autumn/ winter. I agree.. stay there yourselves to test run it. It’s beautiful Josie ..& a choice of PUBs nearby too. 💕
Pub! Very charming! I love the pretty shades of green and all the welcoming touches. Prints/wall decor and toss pillows will add that final cozy touch. I agree every vacation home needs a full length mirror!! You both have done a great job so far! I agree with other followers - mattress pads, top floor rails, and the TV left out are needed. Sometimes on a holiday after a busy day in town its nice to hunker down in front of the fire with a glass of wine and catch up on a favorite show. Can't wait to see the finished product. Well done, you are so close!
Wow what a beautifull cottage, as someone who has stayed in many self cattering properties and i am very particular about them, you have by far exceeded the transformation of what it was like before, the saucepan set alone wow you have gone above and beyond making sure your guests have a fab stay at your cottage everything you have done is truly lovely, xx
Hi Josie, the cottage is so sweet and inviting. All the decisions, efforts and details by both you and Charlie will make your guest feel comfortable and relaxed. A huge acknowledgment to all the skilled workers, craftsmen, and decorators who helped bring your visions to reality.
Looks so beautiful! I would add a little selection of items that you often forget to pack but wish you had when you need them. Warm fuzzy socks, a hot water bottle, an umbrella, a nail file, an extra phone charger... The wellies were a brilliant addition. Obviously cozy blankets are also a must for autumn and winter! Menus from local PUBS and restaurants would be great as well. 😘
Yes carpet padding is very important. You never want to go cheap as it will affect the quality of the carpet itself even if you go with upgraded carpet. The place is fantastic. It’s on my bucket list for sure!
Absolutely loving the transformation! The bathroom is stunning, those tiles are beautiful. I prefer looking at leaflets of local attractions etc and feel that a tablet would be a waste of money (id also be a bit apprehensive in case someone stole it!) You have both worked really hard, hope you paid a visit to the Pub! x
Huge congratulations to both of you, I know that furnishing your home with such taste and attention to detail is a lot of work. The Strawtop cottage looks just perfect 🥰🥰🥰
The cottage looks fantastic Josie! 😍 You and Charlie are very good hosts - I especially loved the idea of having fresh local eggs and bread.❤️🍞🥚I would suggest dark green dressing gowns, that way you can keep it within the colour scheme of the room while taking care of any marks and stains. For the area above the sink in the kitchen, I would suggest getting a tiny antique-looking clock. As for other suggestions, a definite YES to the tv in the lounge📺 Agree with Charlie on having a physical book📓 I'm with you though on the Colt and Willow🧴 It would be nice for you'll to leave a book for feedback and comments from your guests. Maybe leave a souvenir of Cotswold for guests to take home with them. (PUB!!)
Pub - Congratulations! I could go on and on about the cottage ❣️🥰 it’s really beautiful. With Charlie on the information booklets / menus but with you Josie on the washing up liquid - certain not large bottle of Fairy! One thing I’ve loved about cottage rental? Information booklet and traditional games such fun on holiday 😍
I like the book not only for local info but for your guests to write a commentary of the highlights of their visits. It is wonderful to read these. Pub.
Make sure you have a tray, for taking up stairs for breakfast in bed. Leave a note to make sure your clients know that they can use the pasta etc. Make them aware when the bin peeps come so it's not a shock 😳😂. Agree with you re washing up liquid, small things make an impact. Check if your guests are allergic food or skin and try and accommodate that. Think about a matching brass spray that you could use for the edge of the shower glass.
The cottage is gorgeous. You've both done such an amazing job. A couple of larger plants will make it look even more cosy. Something like a Kentia Palm which is low maintenance. Something like shortbread is always a lovely treat on arrival. Mince pies at Christmas.
I couldn't see a tv guys .. definitely need one in the living room . I'd be very interested in looking into dates and prices to come stay ! Looks lovely.
Josie! A little baby wreath would look so gorgeous underneath the cooker hood I think 🥰. The cottage is absolutely darling, so beautiful to follow your progress ☺️
Things I have loved in a rental. A map of the local area. Things to do info, basic shopping items, bread, milk, toilet roll. Clean towels and shower requirements so you can refresh after a long trip. Labelled plugs and easy instructions for all appliances. Good luck guys 🍀🍀🍀
PUB🍻 Looks amazing, you mentioned you are a dog friendly cottage so a few towels , throws , cute water bowl and doggie treats always are appreciated . A leaflet or information on a few good dog friendly walks and pubs. Mattress protectors has already been mentioned. A physical guest book is something we always look through and it lovely to see other people's suggestions and experiences. Also have. You considered two singles that can be zipped together to make a king for the top room , if people come with children / teens/ friends they may prefer this sleeping arrangement ( cute but stylish kids bedlinen if young children staying )😀
Pub Also a couple of suggestions, which I am sure that you have already thought about Mattress protectors, as these can be laundered, and therefore more hygienic. A bedside clock is very useful too. You have done an amazing job with the cottage, I wish you every success, though I am sure that you will do amazingly with this as you have done with The Rectory 🥰
Hi Josie and Charlie it’s been great to watch the cottage grow, it really is very pretty, very welcoming and It feels so relaxing and inviting. Apart from the beautiful bathroom, I really like the kitchen, the beautiful colour of the units and the antique brass fittings are perfect. I remember I stayed somewhere once and the owners had in the bathroom some really pretty guest soaps in a basket made locally. A beautiful cottage, can’t wait to see more XX
stunning! my experience of holiday cottages lovely touches are, Hamper with wine and dog treats if they are bringing dogs, a dog bow for water, nice organic washing up liquid, not fairy, fairy lights somewhere, shelve for toiletries in the bathroom, some indoor plants to make it cost. blanket for curling up under. Smart TV is a must. loved it. pub!
I’m amazed by your trust in your future guests. I hope this journey will be a great success for you. Definitely protect your beautiful beds. Accidents happens very easily and it is impossible to clean a bed probably (thought from a mother of two). Also the lights or the colours in your office really brings out the green in your eyes. You look so beautiful and happy at the end. ❤️
Fresh herbs are a lovely touch! And I love farm fresh brekkie items . Local and fresh, especially if everything has a story about the maker/ baker or grower
Pub! Oh Josie and Charlie the cottage is adorable. I love that you have some of your old items there so guests can use some of the items we’ve been seeing in your videos for years. My husband and I plan to travel to England (we live in Dallas) for a very belated honeymoon after our COVID wedding last year. We will definitely stay at your cottage when we visit the area, we will plan our trip around its availability. This is so exciting and I wish you both so much success in this new venture. You both out so much love and style into your spaces. ❤️
Definitely a guest book and information folder . Local produce and fresh flowers are a nice touch . Lots of empty spaces for them to put personal items on and a tv is nice perhaps as this is a very high class cottage it could be a frame tv so it could be a picture as well .
We stayed in a cute condo in Travers City, Michigan several times. We were so impressed with how clean everything was. It’s a small thing, but they left a little welcome basket/bowel with health, portable snacks - granola and power bars as well as some chocolate. The refrigerator and kitchen cabinets was also stocked with condiments that we would need. Cooking oil, sugar, mustard and ketchup, etc. Made things that much easier. Definitely think a TV with cable would be nice. Beautiful cottage!! I could live there! Pub
Yes using all British products when you can. I would put a TV in the cottage just to get up dates on weather and evening getting coziness when weather is too rainy. You need umbrellas by the door. Maybe an antique looking clock in the sitting room. The whole cottage is lovely.
I would suggest painting or even wallpapering under the stairs in the closet to give it a more finished look and help camouflage the stairs from whatever you hang in the closet! You & Charlie have done a beautiful job and anyone would be happy to stay there.
Darlings thank you all so so much for your kind words! If you’d like to be updated as to when we are accepting bookings (very soon!!) please sign up here : mailchi.mp/3fc164c9166d/strawtop-cottage
Hi Josie,
Can you link the carpet details in the description (ie) colour.
May I ask- Are your linen trousers true to size? and …what is the paint colour you’ve used in the sitting room at the cottage please?
Such a lovely cottage. You and Charlie did a great job renovating it.
Definitely team cotton willow. Little touches like that are lovely. A big bottle of washing up liquid will ruin the aesthetic I think 🌻
Great checklist
You thought of loads of things that I agree with and didn't think of!
Gotta build another cottage to
STORE all those lovely fixins !!
☝️😁☝️
You've done this before😊
Wow! A perfect list! Also, I think both the cottage and the old Rectory are lacking Art Works on the walls! Paintings, botanical prints, old maps….
Brilliant idea. I always look for doctors in the places where we stay, just in case.
Hospitality always use white linens , towels and bathrobes. Colour is a def no-no
@@debbievidal9536 Yes Debbie, could not agree more, the idea of the green robes is nice but if you have white bedlinen, pillowcases, sheets, bathrobes then you can bung in a little well diluted bleach (which I do) for your wash and do it all together in the one load. Turn on the washing machine immediately!
I have very sensitive skin and always, always, do an extra rinse and spin with the bleach as an extra precaution.
Consider putting a journal/diary in the cottage for your guests to write an entry! Maybe give them a prompt: “Tell us about your favourite excursion/restaurant/shop”
- that way new guests can read what other guests have done in the area before them.
On the same note, leave a feedback card as well.
Writing an entry to do your favourite 'something' from your trip is a fantastic idea.... Guests can learn a lot!
It looks so good Josie, you and Charlie did such a great job! May I suggest you get a Trivet for hot pots and plates, so your straw top guests don't ruin your beautiful countertops! PUB!
Heat proof mat/mats for the centre of the dining table!
Looks great! I’d highly recommend getting a heavy duty mattress protector. Just a sheet won’t hold up and it isn’t the most hygienic long term.
Agree the beds and pillows do look hygienic covid can stay on a mattress and pillows for two to three days
Totally agree.... have worked in housekeeping in a hotel...it is a must! 😬🙈
Agreed
Should have read your comment before posting!!
100% need to have waterproof mattress and pillow protectors to save the mattress from all sorts of accidents
Looks absolutely beautiful. I would add some local art work on the walls. To add more warmth to the cottage.
That’s a good idea about local art work. You could maybe show and swop around new artists work and details how to buy it. A guest book would be good. For people to note their experiences and ideas for future guests to do. Xx
@@margaretwright7603 I really like your idea of guests being able to leave a note expressing what they enjoyed doing while there.
Hi Josie and Charlie, the cottage is beautiful. My additions would be:
A rail going up the stairs to the top level, older guests will need it or children who always run and up down staircases.
PUB!!
I love the idea of the hamper with local treats, also I was thinking a book with suggestions for markets, restaurants, great places to visit.
I agree with all your points! Also, if there’s a fútbol game on then guests can catch it in the cottage if they don’t want to go to a pub.
Gorgeous bathroom!! Defo agree that the toilet seat needs changing!!
Mattress pads??? X
A TV is a must!
Agree . Love a smart TV that I can link to TH-cam on my phone
Yep. I agree. Tv should stay in all the time. A smart tv would be particularly useful. 👍
I agree tv is important
When you have guests starting to come, then partner with local restaurants, shops, pubs, tourist activities, etc. to give a special discount card for their products and services exclusively to guests who are staying at Strawtop. That will be an additional "perk" for anyone who stays there that you can advertise in your marketing. Congratulations on such a monumental accomplishment!
The bathroom is just such a fun design, I can’t get over it! The cottage is really coming to look like the perfect staycation getaway
It’s that perfect Spa touch without taking away any of the cottage charm
Just STUNNING
☝️🌸☝️
I agree! who needs a spa, when this is how their bathroom looks like - a perfect getaway :)
I absolutely loved your front door colour and knocker!
Also, you can take something physical as a momento from the trip 🥰
Pub ❤️
I have to agree with Charlie, after having run an air bnb for 3 years and staying in many, the physical book that explains how things work, places to go etc was the one thing that guests always appreciated.
I would be careful about checking in with the guests about leaving alcohol. Would not be a positive thing for those in recovery.
@@AmmaLove24 oh that’s such a thoughtful point lovely xx
Looks absolutely beautiful!! You’ve done such a fab job! One idea that I think could be lovely is to buy art from local artists or vintage pieces that depict the local area, always a touch I’ve loved in cottages we’ve stayed in in the past. Plus nice to support local creatives and potential for guests to discover them too 😊
You might do two single beds upstairs? That way couples can push them together if they want, but friends or siblings can sleep in separate beds...
That's actually brilliant and it surely solves their problem with the narrow stairs...well thought!
@@lasusurradoradegatos Yes you can get zip and link - so each one can be transported upstairs then put together once up.
Great idea. Love to area carpet up there but it looks awkward under that bed. Nothing showed on sides where folks step out of bed and to. Unfortunately, also agree with living room furniture. Nice but not together.
Absolutely. Most holiday lets have separate single beds also.
A guest book is a must! People will write exactly what they think and this can be really useful feedback. You will also see when people rebook and so will other guests. It’s amusing reading when guests arrive. Fresh flowers of course (or great fake ones.) It all looks amazing. What a beautiful cottage.
We stay in cottages all the time - if you leave some local ‘bread, milk, biscuits, honey etc’ - it’s an amazing touch
A charming antique brass mirror above the kitchen sink would add an element of sweetness! The rest is absolutely gorgeous!! Well done!
Definitely. Or an antique gold finished framed oil painting. Also tv is a must.
I agree. A mirror would be fabulous and create the illusion of more space or the feeling of a window.
Something that makes a huge difference is fresh flowers like you’ve put in! It just makes the house feel so much homier and taken care of.
Pub!
The tile in the bathroom at the cottage is so special & beautiful.
Yes to all your suggestions!
Such a great suggestion! 👍
Folding luggage racks are essential otherwise people’s (dirty) bags Go in the lovely clean beds!
PUB
It’s so cosy! I would flip the rug in the pink bedroom so that you have more rug in the sides when you step out of the bed 😍
Like the cottage or favorite place they visited while there etc
Well done you two!!!!
Pub.
I agree with a small TV to catch up on the news or for while dinner is cooking!
Maybe a Freddie Mirror TV??
Yes definitely a tv!
@@Jilly13bean12 I don't really understand the negativity in your comment, but allow me to explain:
I guess it's just a parenting difference but my kids prefer to read, explore and actually play.
Its like a unique diary of the cottage
2) shelf below mirror in bathroom
3) mattress & pillow protectors
4) pack of playing cards
5) people do like a TV
6) paint yn stairs in the wardrobe
7) art work of local artists (possible available to buy)
8) outside fire pit? Or nice light/burner
Everything looks beautiful and inviting! Only thing I noticed it lacked were linens for the bathroom like a hand towel or bath mat. I saw you provided towels on the bed for showering but just something for hand washing near the sink there and in place. I would love to visit Straw Top someday ❤️
A beautiful white throw to snuggle up on with a cup of tea makes all the difference.
Charlie’s right - you need a physical book
What a treat your guests will experience when staying in your cottage.
Mattress protectors an absolute must to protect your mattresses ❤
Josie....it's not embarrassing. He is an unabridged cool Charlie. Be happy he's just like he is! You are a lucky lady. All of your videos are gems. Thank you
You might need a little link to how to make a kindling fire - for anyone who stays and has never made one (we had that in a cottage we stayed in) also a book with all the appliance booklets - for people to use the cooker, hob, dishwasher, fridge and washing machine. Plus menu’s from local restaurants and shops is always useful.
Yes me yes from restaurants near by in booklet or binder is so useful. 🙌
Menus*
I didn't think of that. Good idea having the instructions for the appliances. 👍
How are you going to regulate the heating??? Are your charging separately?
Oh also a visitors book, always fun to see other guests recommendations too
Pub!
Hi Josie,
Thank you, for just how hard you work to bring us these fabulous flogs each week.
(PUB!!)
Yes I agree to a TV in the lounge.
What a totally fabulous job you have made of straw top cottage👏🏻⭐️
All the lovely things you’ve provided make me feel very nervous as it’s going to be a rental 🤗
My first thought too 😳
Things I have loved in a rental.
Pub 🥰 you two have done a wonderful job 👍 sooooo lovely 🥰 the Strawtop Cottage ❤️
Pub
Also a couple of suggestions, which I am sure that you have already thought about
Mattress protectors, as these can be laundered, and therefore more hygienic.
A bedside clock is very useful too.
You have done an amazing job with the cottage, I wish you every success, though I am sure that you will do amazingly with this as you have done with The Rectory 🥰
Hi Josie and Charlie it’s been great to watch the cottage grow, it really is very pretty, very welcoming and
It feels so relaxing and inviting. Apart from the beautiful bathroom, I really like the kitchen, the beautiful colour
of the units and the antique brass fittings are perfect. I remember I stayed somewhere once and the owners
had in the bathroom some really pretty guest soaps in a basket made locally.
A beautiful cottage, can’t wait to see more XX
Josie the cottage looks amazing, makes me what to visit, so cosy.
I love the color in the kitchen and the pink bedroom…so soft and elegant
stunning! my experience of holiday cottages lovely touches are, Hamper with wine and dog treats if they are bringing dogs, a dog bow for water, nice organic washing up
liquid, not fairy, fairy lights somewhere, shelve for toiletries in the bathroom, some indoor plants to make it cost. blanket for curling up under.
PDF updates via email can prevent quick reprints of a notebook. Very easy to update/edit. More eco too.....
Pub
The cottage is beautiful. May I suggest that you use mattress and pillow protectors.
Yes using all British products when you can. I would put a TV in the cottage just to get up dates on weather and evening getting coziness when weather is too rainy. You need umbrellas by the door. Maybe an antique looking clock in the sitting room. The whole cottage is lovely.
Umbrellas in a gorgeous stand, always forget mine!
So exciting.nice to see all the love you put into in the cottage. Good luck.everything looks beautiful and cozy.
love love love the bathroom!
I would suggest painting or even wallpapering under the stairs in the closet to give it a more finished look and help camouflage the stairs from whatever you hang in the closet! You & Charlie have done a beautiful job and anyone would be happy to stay there.
