I still mix I still DJ I still have all my records, all thanks to Jazzy j, Jam Master Jay the Latin Rascals and the rest of those Pioneer DJs that taught me what I know for the last 40 years. I'm doing what they did back then now and still recording cassette tapes edits samples. I also have all my old New York shows on cassette tape, that's my gold
AMEN...Humbelness was normal back in the day..... we lived a better life in the 80s....HIP HOP kept us busy....so did Graffitti and fashion..Cazals, Lees, Kangols and BVD shirts....and name plates!...and belts...lol Im hoping we get back to the ROOTS of hip hop
@djrakman__I had the pleasure of meeting Jazzy Jay in Santa Monica right after he performed at Zanzibar/Temple Bar back in '03. I thanked him for his contribution to hip hop, and he signed an autograph for me on the event flyer. He seemed equally as gracious to me to just be appreciated as such. This video definitely shows that soulful side of Jazzy Jay. I'll always remember that interaction with him fondly. What a cool dude. Today's hip hop artists could take a good lesson from Jay.
Mad Oldskool.... Makes you appreciate the old heads, that have been on the scene since it started.... Awesome video, Afrika Bambaata looks mad young in this video.....Gotta be at least the 70's......🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯💪👍🙏🎄🐺
Re: 1970s This was on Nickelodeon in Oct 1983. Fun fact: That's actually 16yr-old Ad-Roc who pops the audience question about the Beastie Boys 1st single 'Cooky Puss' he allegedly "heard on the radio"(4:20)
Im only here to see how Djing was like back then cause as a dj myself i love to leart new tricks and techniques for scratching. I also think its cool she got a chance to experience on Djing a little. ❤ Follow your dreams practice makes perfect.
LOVE this. Beastie Boys Adrock at 4:20. That's insanely cool... Only about 17 years old, and plugging the Beasties on TV, like he isn't in the band. Haha.
Nice video, and nostalgic for me, takes me back to when everything that was coming out felt so new and vibrant. Another thing it reminds me of, was that back then, you had to be on point and have your shit together when it came to something like learning how to scratch, because there was no specially made cartridges to help you out (even if there was, we sure as shit wouldnt be able to have them)....and for a while, I thought direct drives were a myth or somethin lol
I used to watch this show on Nickelodeon back in the mid 80s, but it’s been like a decades-long fever dream trying to remember the name. I wasn’t even sure it was actually real!
Is the host really MCA? And did Bambaata know? And how did MCA and AdRock manage to get themselves on the show (as a host, nonetheless)? That's awesome on so many levels.
4:19 AD Rock - "its a really funny song , i heard it on the Radio"
Great Acting
for everybody who is looking for the right moment 4:20 AD Rock is asking about his own song
What an appropriate time stamp that is too. Coincindence? I think not!
