I thank you for starting the series. I have been using Gaia for a couple of years, but I have not taken the time to learn how to get the most out of it. For one thing, I deeply appreciate you confirming that the route creation tool on the phone app is really not that useful and one should just do rout creation on the website. I was driving myself. Crazy wondering why I couldn’t get the route creation tool to work properly on the phone app. 😂😅
There’s a 20 mile water carry on the PCT south of Crater Lake. However, there’s a spring about half way that’s .5 off the trail down a scree hole. Gaia got us to the spring, which was maybe 2’ diameter and guarded by two giant bullfrogs. Turns out, due to the heat, we NEEDED that water to make the final 10 miles to Mazama Village (there was a dry camp in between). I’ve also used Gaia to plot a trail near Potato Hill where there was a segment of a loop that was missing. That segment was a trail, but it was simply missing on the map.
The top four icons when I open the app in my android phone on the map page are no longer there. On the upper left is a red dot within a red circle that records when touched. Has there been an upgrade/change to the app?
Its a lot harder to follow than to guide...LOL. In a nutshell you are not showing us your every move when guiding us thru this app....it makes it really hard to follow along in this video. AND.....GAIA is not the most user friendly app. I use GAIA on my hikes, and Ill be the first to admit that its hard to use! thank you for your great videos, your website. I hope that you will have more adventures in the Mt. Hood and Gorge area. thank you!
My Gaia screen top bar looks nothing like yours. I have a record button, elevation, gps location numbers and a compass. Also when I go into settings screens or deferent and there are less options. I am using the free version. I am really only wanting to use it for backtracking. Don't care about planning. I just want to go on a walk and be able to walk back the same way as I came.
You say "then you can click and it will show you......" "Then you can choose your own color". That's all very appreciative but I had a hard time following you because you don't show us where to click, or where to go to click to open up what your showing us. Sorry....you lost me.

I've never noticed the "create area" option -- so much better than a forced rectangle for downloading. Thanks for pointing that out!
You’re welcome!

Gaia is pretty awesome.
Looks like I will not be making it to hike in Oregon this year. Please take care of you and your love ones. Still hope to make it to Oregon 1 day.
Aw that sucks! Hopefully some other time.
Good overview. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Don’t forget your giving a tutorial to us. SLOW DOWN!! I gave you a thumbs up but no way I can keep up with you…..

If you’re using the free version, that is why it looks different than mine. Also the Samsung and iPhone apps look different.
