Is that really Everclear?
Yes it is! It works great as a cleaner, and it should probably be reserved only for that task if you ask me.
Fanatic job so far. Nothing like vintage.
Yes! There's nothing like an old camper! Thanks for watching!
What did you use to seal the frame parts together. Mine had a gray colored epoxy. Just unsure of what to use.
Ha ha, well here's the thing, that's the one part that I really screwed up on. I assumed, based on how sloppy the application of that gray epoxy was, that some previous owner had tried to apply that stuff so I left it off. I was wrong. Unfortunately, I don't have a great answer for what to use, but I believe you want to use the gray gutter sealant that you can find in a caulking gun tube at most hardware stores...but apply it neatly if you can. Good luck!
@@TrailerTrashtoTreasure that's what I bought just wasnt sure if there was a better product you had luck with. I'm enjoying my rebuild but the windows are a bull that's for sure.
Yeah, windows are a time vampire for sure. I always assumed there'd be an RV specific window sealant, but so far I haven't found anything better than gutter sealant.
Congratulations on finishing the windows!
Thank you! We were SO ready to be done 😅 excited to move onto the interior!
Only hear music
Yeah, that video received a copyright claim due to some of the music we used (although we had the right to use it at the time it was posted). I think we chose to demonitize it so it would still be available, but it seems like TH-cam has unilaterally decided to replace the audio, so I guess it may be time to remake that video.
Lots of work, but worth it 👍
Definitely! Thanks for watching!
I am not looking forward to window repair - so far, we have removed the trash, shop vac'd, I removed the screens - oh, and my husband removed the limb that went through the roof Christmas Eve and temporarily repaired the hole. :D Your trailer looks great!
Oh no! Sorry to hear you got a skylight for Christmas! Hopefully it's not too too big and can be repaired. The windows were probably my least favorite part of the whole rebuild honestly. And I'm still technically not finished with them (I need to go back and add more butyl tape in the dips in the camper siding). Thanks for watching and good luck with your camper remodel!
I'm curious about the Everclear - I just use it to make moonshine, lol. Does it work better than regular rubbing alcohol?
It is STRONG stuff for sure! It's mot necessarily better than rubbing alcohol, but in some places it's easier to find 190 proof Everclear than it is to find 95% or better rubbing alcohol. The reason you want the higher alcohol content is that it evaporates so much quicker and leaves less residue behind. Plus you can drink Everclear in a pinch ; )
I hated cleaning and resealing the windows to the camper
I actually hated it
It's THE WORST!!! Good to hear from you again 👋
@@TrailerTrashtoTreasure it is looking awesome btw
@@jessejamesbozardlincoln Thank you!!
So much patience on those windows, you get the 🏆
Thanks. Rome wasn't built in a day.
You did everything exactly the way you should have, Conan… this channel is invaluable
Thanks Kevin! I actually have always meant to do a definitive window restoration video, but I'm not exactly raring to do more windows, lol!
@@TrailerTrashtoTreasure 😂 my wife and I have been binge watching your entire catalog today, we’re up to wall 2 on the 56? We have a 68 Yellowstone Cavalier that’s been on the back burner for about 2 years. We have the trailer frame and deck complete, just need to start rebuilding walls! Love this channel! Thanks for all the content
Sounds like a fun project! Thanks for watching!
What do you put in there between the metal and glass to reseal it?
Also did you take them apart just to make them really clean or did they need resealed?
The old seals were really brittle and needed to be replaced in addition to it being easier to clean up the window frames without the glass in them. There is a specific seal for each specific window type. I ordered the replacement seals from vintagetrailergaskets.com.
@@TrailerTrashtoTreasure Could you provide the link for the exact sealant you used? I have a scotty serro with the crank windows like you have....
And what was the green stuff in the bottle?
All of the seals I used for these windows are linked in the description of this video where I describe how to get the top fin seal in place:
th-cam.com/video/kfjxOgNjUxI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yRa-D_8sxxQX_fpb
You'll want to pick up some aluminum gutter sealant for sealing the joints where the sides of the window frames come together as I demonstrate in the linked video. And you'll also want some butyl tape to seal against the camper skin when you replace the window.
Good luck!
Just regular old dish soap.
