Many people are thinking about Duplantis' world record completely wrong, as shown in those comments at the end. of the video Yes, he breaks the world record 1 cm at a time (like every world record pole vaulter always does), but every one of the last 12 world records have been made by Duplantis. Let that sink in. The previous world record before Duplantis was at 6.14 and is a 30 year old record. Duplantis is so good he could jump that high in basically every competition. Now it sits at 6.26 and he is only 24 years old.
Currently busy with real life and the current track happenings. But in the off-season I have many ideas I want to delve into :). So yes 100%. But how historical who knows haha.
Pole Vault is probably the most demanding event in track and fields requiring technique, coordination, speed, agility and strength. Both Bubka and Duplantis were/are just slightly behind the top athletes in sprint and jumping events. This means that only very few master this event and reach the elite.
Jumpman, I know you dont normally make videos focusing on only one person but there's this boy called Divine Iheme and he is an insanely talented young british sprinter. I was recently at the same meet as him and had the chance to see him run and it was crazy he ran a 10.5s 100m (he's 14 years old). And on a meet on the 26th of August he ran a 10.3 which is literally the 23rd fastest in the whole of the country this year and again he's only 14 years old!! I would really appreciate if you made a vid about him. Love your vids bro :))
Like in terms of the Word "Greater" as in terms of popularity and how much they are known, no one comes even close to Usain Bolt in terms of that. He's miles and away the most popular athletics performer. He competed in the most popular event, and raced against the next fastest four runners of all time. And he made them look so amateur that all of them are criminally underrated by anyone who isn't a big athletics fan. Although you could easily make the argument that if you mean by sporting achievements alone Duplantis is arguably just as good as, if not better than Bolt already.
Duplantis is a legend, and he has many bright years ahead of him. The question is if he can match Bubka's insane 6 (SIX) consecutive world championships golds. (1983-1997) What's even more insane is that in the beggining there was 4 years, and not 2, between each championships. Which means Bubka very likely could've won 8 consecutive gold. (If there was a 1985 and 1989 world championships, it's very likely he would've won them too.)
top 2 athletics/track analysis channels. does anybody else feel like stabbing toothpicks into their eardrums trying to listen to and comprehend total running productions videos?
The way to look at it is to compare to the other best pole vaulters, only then can you appreciate what he is doing and he isnt done. I think he can jump 6.35 - 6.40 if he remains injury free
Jakob’s world record is more difficult in terms of how long it’s taken to be broken, as well as how physically difficult it is for someone to do that. Mondo’s world record is more difficult in terms of how dominant he is in his event (that obviously pushes up the score). I see Mondo breaking his world record numerous more times before he retires, but not the same with Jakob. Do with that what you will. Btw, I’m going with Mondo to win against Warholm in Zurich!
Duplantis is an athlete is so far ahead of everyone else in his event that it must be considered he is the greatest athlete of all time. When will someone other than him break his record? One for the ages that's for sure.
Thank you!! The disrespect to Paulino is CRAZY!!! She beat Sydney when they raced and just went 48.1 and people still gave the audacity to say Sydney is better. It’s so obnoxious.
Some athletes get glazed more Paulinho isn’t from a major nation and sml only runs at big events so see gets all the casuals acting like she’d beat everyone at everything. Paulinho is crazy good in her own right
@@ThomasRobinson-c2nnot 100% sure about that. She's a good hurdler so she probably only loses 2 seconds between the events, that's 48.3. would love to see that race though
I think when you're as good as Ingebrigtsen the line between confidence and arrogance is paper thin. Like the dude is breaking historic marks that confidence is definitely earned, but he only has to faulter once or twice and suddenly he's arrogant.
The only comparable level of records in an event to Duplantis in pole vault is Katie Ledecky in the Women’s 1500m freestyle swimming event. She holds the top 20 times ever in that event.
I hate when T&F fans make out less popular events mean less or saying one dude dominating one even discredits others Mondo is In his own stratosphere no other current athlete has the same dominance especially cause we know mondo has multiple Olympics left in him most likely and can easily best 2.35 I reckon. It doesn’t take away from other greats but he’s simply the most dominant objectively. Just because a record has stood for longer doesn’t mean him break his own every 4 months isnt insane.
Dude has been vaulting since he was like 3. His father was a pole vaulter, and his mother was a heptathlete. If she ever competed indoors, she had to pole vault too. He has like a 12-year headstart on his competition, and had quality elementary coaching from both parents.
Wait, while the other pole vaulters increased by 8 cm, Duplantis increased his attempt with 26 cm. And on top of that, if he didn't break the WR, it would be a tie break or Kendricks could have taken the W.
Paulino beat her once in Paris and she said "Nope!" 🤣 Paulino is objectively the best female 400m sprinter right now, but Sydney has run 48.7 twice already -- that could earn her at least a bronze at a major championship. Sydney shouldn't be scared of losing, and she would raise her profile if she ran with harder competition. But if we can see a sub-50 women's 400mH WR, she can stay doing that event a little longer.
everyone gets what duplantis is doing by only breaking the record by a cm each time, and yes it's gonna make him far more money in the long run just with the hype of getting consistent WR's, sponsorship deals etc, rathe than if he breaks it by a massive amount then dont do it ever again. But what if he suddenly gets injured somehow? That's not an unheard of thing especially for the PV and im sure if he didn't achieve his actual max and ended up getting injured such as how van niekerk got injured just before potentially going sub 43 and barshim got injured on his 3rd and final attempt at 2.46 never to go near that high ever again
Why are you not mentioning Yelena Isinbayeva? She got more world records than Bubka and her last in 2009 still stands and does not look to be threatened any time soon. Without getting too woke about things, is it not possible to name a woman as the best ever? I'm a huge fan of Armand Duplantis, but it's too soon to be talking about Goats, and that is a tag that I always take issue with. He will not pass the number of World records that Isinbayeva got, maybe even Bubka because the bar is so high now that there is not enough 1cm increments left.
Agreed. Mondo is insane, but each time he sets a wr it's 1cm better than the previous one. Jakob obliterated the old mark with over THREE seconds. And the old wr had stood since 1996.
@@bnsz8704i dont understamd how these point ratings make sense then. Because if the best any human vould have donr at that distance up yo tjat point isnt anywhere near 1314 what sense does that make? That you can go 3 seconds faster than the original mark thought to be impossible to beat and still barely reach the 1314. That makes no sense.
@@datname1939 It's based on a mathematical model which predicts the highest value (1400) that's, theoretically, possible for a human to achieve. Not all WR are created equal, some are considered to be closer to perfection than others.
0:08; Tad unfair that some like Tamberi & Jakob had to damn near set a WR just to have a chance of winning that ring when Mondo only had to vault 6.17m (when the WR was 6.25m at the time)? Also, might be an unpopular take but I think as a general rule, you can't be "The Greatest Athlete in T&F" as a One-Event Athlete no matter how dominant you are! 10:27; Pretty obvious that Syd who unfortunately only competes like 3 or 4 times a yr would 'only' have 6 of the all-time Top 10 W400mH performances, having that many when you compete so infrequently is arguably more impressive.
Is it unfair, only one person has ever vaulted 6.17m or higher. The same amount of people who have run under 7:20 for the 3k, and the same amount of people wo have jumped over 245. Duplantis is just a freak.
Yeah, unfortunately the world athletics points system is pretty flawed. Women’s events pretty much score lower across the board than men’s for no discernible reason, so it’s even more unfair for Deanna Price, Paulino, etc.
@@lavanpathmanathan If you think the 2.45m HJ WR that has stood for 31yrs despite many generational talents taking a shot at it isn't as strong as the PV WR then I don't know what to say to you.

@@Smaalerbedwarswet You literally can not do what he is doing in any other event, because in the other events it is just your body and what you are wearing. In Track and field you are comparing apples to oranges when it comes to all events. Granted we don't know what Duplantis' maximum height will be yet, but you should understand what I am trying to say.
@@GodisBlackRev- that's why you can compare by how dominant they are in their sport compared to the competition, hence why the best decathletes aren't seen as the best t & f athletes
Mondo is the best track and field athlete in the sport right now. He’s still got at least 4 years before he enters the all time conversation, but this season is looking like potentially the best track and field season ever
Weak LOL, before duplantis came a long the narrative was the wr was too hard. It's as strong as any other. If it was truly weak you'd have multiple people making historic jumps, like the mens 400 hurdles. That shit was weak before the big 3 came a long.
Can't stand the fact that Duplantis doesn't give it his best and only improves his WR by ~1 cm each time to cash in a prize money for beating WR. I guess I can't blame him for being smart but athletics shouldn't be about calculating like that.
I mean, it is the best strategy, and at least he is going after the WR in every meet not just at the olympic/worlds. He has probably made a million alone from breaking the WR.
All due respect to Mondo please don’t compare him to Bolt. Let’s not act like the likelihood of winning gold in the 100 and 200 in comparison to the pole vault isnt less likely. Those are the premier events that actually has a lot more participants. Let’s stop the nonsense
@@JumpmanTF respectfully this is not true. How many people take on the 100 and 200 and how many participate in the pole vaults. I don’t know the figures but I’m sure Pole Vault in comparison to the sprints is not even close. So to dominate an event where you have a higher volume of participants is why I say the comparison for Bolt to Mondo is not close at all
pole vaulting isn't as impressive as running events. so, he definitely isn't the Greatest Athlete in Track & Field. Very few people ever try pole vaulting whereas nearly everybody has tried a running race.
You ever watched it in person? It is so impressive LOL. Dudes flying over 6m at a full sprint. Although I get your point, in terms of pushing the 'human limit'
Tell me the title is ragebait? 😂 Duplantis isn’t anywhere near any ATG list! Who’s ever tried pole vault? The barrier to entry is so high. There will be multiple people on this planet who could beat him if they applied themselves. You absolutely can’t guarantee he’s the best on the planet at pole vault, simply because about 1 in 5 million people have probably ever tried it or had access to it. Whereas with running. Everyone can and has tried to run; so we know the elite runners really are the best of the best! Duplantis isn’t even on the same page as someone like Galen Rupp ffs…
Buddy you're a runner, I bet you struggle to jump over the mens hurdles height. Comparing galen, a guy with no olympic or world titles to his name to a 24 year old duplantis with 10 world records and more golds than fingers. Clown. Go watch a pv competition in person, and then repeat what you said.
@@JumpmanTF I stand by what I said! I don’t disagree Duplantis is impressive. But he’s hardly competing in a sport that everyone has tried and he knows he’s best as is he? It’s exactly the same as someone winning gold at the Olympics for horse dressage. Impressive, but there definitely not the best in the world as nobody cares about that sport. Same as PV 😂 My point is that there will be murkier athletes out there who could beat Mondo at PV if they’d bothered to try….
he’s great- but cheats on records, because he gets paid for every record, instead of doing his best, he just raises the bar one notch each time , no other sport has this ability , you can’t improve by one hundredth of a second each race, or by one inch on each throw, so his record number of records is a farce , raise the bar to 6.40 instead of 1 centimeter each time - bolt didn’t just race fast enough to beat everyone, he ran his fastest unlike mondo who does only enough to increase 1 notch then quits - try for a real record by doing your best - he’d make a great politician - just do enough to get by

Yo wirtual reference for the duplantis jump?
Came to say this. Jumpman watches Wittual confirmed 💯
1000000% sometimes while editing I have the stream open lol
Based
Like in terms of the Word "Greater" as in terms of popularity and how much they are known, no one comes even close to Usain Bolt in terms of that.
9:05 you know it's serious when the trackmania record music starts playing 😂
Fr. TRP videos are so annoying with the terrible music and scripts that lack any emotion and repeat the same the over and over to get mid roll ads

@@meee_5155 He can just train an AI voicebot and get ChatGPT to do the scripts at this point, no one could tell the difference.

I find TRPs videos to be the best by far, so probably just personal opinion.
Throwing mentioned let’s gooooo! Even though they didn’t throw as far as we hoped for :(
so maybe they should change the way they calculate the points for each event? And how can 6.26m compare to 9.58s?
9.58 is actually worth more points. The title more refers to the current batch of athletes haha. But eventually to all!
yeah according the the points system, 9.58s is equivalent to 6.32m.
The way to look at it is to compare to the other best pole vaulters, only then can you appreciate what he is doing and he isnt done. I think he can jump 6.35 - 6.40 if he remains injury free
Love your humor
This man is a Wirtual fan confirmed. Got the line and the song (from Hefest). Nice little easter egg, if you may call it like that ahah
there is No debate in the pole vault
wake up babe, Jumpman just uploaded
Jakob’s world record is more difficult in terms of how long it’s taken to be broken, as well as how physically difficult it is for someone to do that. Mondo’s world record is more difficult in terms of how dominant he is in his event (that obviously pushes up the score). I see Mondo breaking his world record numerous more times before he retires, but not the same with Jakob. Do with that what you will. Btw, I’m going with Mondo to win against Warholm in Zurich!
"Blow out the back" is crazy
Duplantis is an athlete is so far ahead of everyone else in his event that it must be considered he is the greatest athlete of all time. When will someone other than him break his record? One for the ages that's for sure.
Thank you!! The disrespect to Paulino is CRAZY!!! She beat Sydney when they raced and just went 48.1 and people still gave the audacity to say Sydney is better. It’s so obnoxious.
Some athletes get glazed more Paulinho isn’t from a major nation and sml only runs at big events so see gets all the casuals acting like she’d beat everyone at everything. Paulinho is crazy good in her own right
@@Ineddiblehulk Paulino is most likely the true world record holder. Only dopers have gone quicker.
Sydney would beat her 48.1, Sydney would go sub 48 if she’s running 50.3 over 10 hurdles. That’s on period.
Explain why. @@ThomasRobinson-c2n
@@ThomasRobinson-c2nnot 100% sure about that. She's a good hurdler so she probably only loses 2 seconds between the events, that's 48.3. would love to see that race though
Loved the subtle Wirtual nod: "Got this junp" Right into Svanefossen!
Here before copyright claim 🤚
4:48 you're disrespectful 😭😭
Duplantis is in a league of his own, but I can't get over Karsten Warholm getting below 46 and ripping his track suit to shreds in Tokyo.
"Armand Duplantis Cemented His Spot As The Greatest Athlete In Track & Field"
Usain Bolt: Cough cough
“and then Duplantis got this jump” 😂
I think when you're as good as Ingebrigtsen the line between confidence and arrogance is paper thin. Like the dude is breaking historic marks that confidence is definitely earned, but he only has to faulter once or twice and suddenly he's arrogant.
Facts, also depends on if you value trash talk too. Because he brings it good!
anotha banga
Hefest got this run? Didn't expect to hear that line or the music here
If Tebogo breaks the 200m WR in brussels or gets into top 3 fastest all time he is getting it...😮
HAHA not the WirtualTM reference
The only comparable level of records in an event to Duplantis in pole vault is Katie Ledecky in the Women’s 1500m freestyle swimming event. She holds the top 20 times ever in that event.
Granted I’m not sure how many times she has set the WR in that event though.
You gonna do a vid about the u20 worlds?
I might. Very excited to watch it, lots of young nz athletes there
8:49 am I the only one who gets this reference
This has to be a Sirtual reference
Owning every top 10 jumps is jokes😂
The easiest track & field event is sitting on your couch criticizing the athletes 😄
These word choices, this music. It seems oddly familiar. Yeah, it is the wirtual way of keeping records of records.
What is wirtual doing here mate?
Will we ever see McLaughlin or Norman run ever again? 😅
Next US trials!
Duplantis can not be touched he is truly the GOAT no discussion.
The WA table for 400mh is a bit fucked. Paulino’s performance in the 400m flat was more impressive than Bol’s in the hurdles.
Yeaaah, 80's european 400m runners murdering the event with steroids
Not to start and argument but, isnt running more impessive than pole vaulting?
Have u ever tried the pole vault? It is DAMN hard
Femke bol and sydney are the most dominant
EXACTLY THA K YOU SYNDEY IS SCARED
Paulino beat her once in Paris and she said "Nope!" 🤣 Paulino is objectively the best female 400m sprinter right now, but Sydney has run 48.7 twice already -- that could earn her at least a bronze at a major championship. Sydney shouldn't be scared of losing, and she would raise her profile if she ran with harder competition. But if we can see a sub-50 women's 400mH WR, she can stay doing that event a little longer.
When all is said and done, Duplantis will set the WR at 2.36 in the future. Anyone want to lay bets?
That low ? Haha
Bro wants him to go lower
6.40 minimum
everyone gets what duplantis is doing by only breaking the record by a cm each time, and yes it's gonna make him far more money in the long run just with the hype of getting consistent WR's, sponsorship deals etc, rathe than if he breaks it by a massive amount then dont do it ever again. But what if he suddenly gets injured somehow? That's not an unheard of thing especially for the PV and im sure if he didn't achieve his actual max and ended up getting injured such as how van niekerk got injured just before potentially going sub 43 and barshim got injured on his 3rd and final attempt at 2.46 never to go near that high ever again
hope the thumbnail is edited :D otherwise duplantis might be in great trouble :)
Sweden-usa 🤝🤝🤝🤝
meters. plural.
Using the wirtual music when a swede gets a WR is the cherry on top of this video
Glazing
Damn bloody right
Why are you not mentioning Yelena Isinbayeva? She got more world records than Bubka and her last in 2009 still stands and does not look to be threatened any time soon. Without getting too woke about things, is it not possible to name a woman as the best ever?
I'm a huge fan of Armand Duplantis, but it's too soon to be talking about Goats, and that is a tag that I always take issue with.
He will not pass the number of World records that Isinbayeva got, maybe even Bubka because the bar is so high now that there is not enough 1cm increments left.
I've been meaning to make a video on her at some point. But the women are closer to her than they are duplantis. Altho recency bias is true.
Idk if this is unpopular but I think jakob should’ve won the ring, or at least I wanted him to after that performance
Agreed. Mondo is insane, but each time he sets a wr it's 1cm better than the previous one. Jakob obliterated the old mark with over THREE seconds. And the old wr had stood since 1996.
It was objective. There was no “should have”
@@bnsz8704i dont understamd how these point ratings make sense then. Because if the best any human vould have donr at that distance up yo tjat point isnt anywhere near 1314 what sense does that make? That you can go 3 seconds faster than the original mark thought to be impossible to beat and still barely reach the 1314. That makes no sense.
@@datname1939 cause Mondo is just so so so far ahead of anyone else
It just means that the WR for those events are not as strong as the WR for the vault.
Yeah, unfortunately the world athletics points system is pretty flawed. Women’s events pretty much score lower across the board than men’s for no discernible reason, so it’s even more unfair for Deanna Price, Paulino, etc.
The reason the Women's score lower is because the doping 80's eastern Europeans destroyed a lot of events for modern women. It is what it is.
@@lavanpathmanathan If you think the 2.45m HJ WR that has stood for 31yrs despite many generational talents taking a shot at it isn't as strong as the PV WR then I don't know what to say to you.

For me this years Goat was Hassan the runner ..
Duplantis can jump like 6.35 though obviously, and he'll go home DEVASTATED after his race with Warholm

Duplantis devastated you say? You look slightly silly my friend.
@@kaiamy3779 Hah yeah looks like I was the one devastated..
Greater than Bolt?
Ohhh. You got me there. I meant as of today to be fair. But by the end of his career, he probably will be.
@@JumpmanTFno he won’t bud lmao triple triple? I think not
There may be a case if he gets gold at 4 olympics, and 30 consecutive world records hahahah. Which sounds so absurd but like it could happen at the same time.
@@JumpmanTFif one could manage speed as well as height bolt could have also inched away at his world record milking it for eternity. Its lost its appeal all these world records are just uninspiring at this point the novelty has worn off for me. @@JumpmanTFbesides 3 seperate world records is better than 1 all day.
Don't be silly. Pole-Vault has such a tiny subset of athletes. If it was the most popular and lucrative event the WR probably over 6.5 by now.

In the pole vault not the whole sport.
hes comparatively the best compared to his sport more than anyone, making him the 🐐
@@Smaalerbedwarswet You literally can not do what he is doing in any other event, because in the other events it is just your body and what you are wearing. In Track and field you are comparing apples to oranges when it comes to all events. Imagine If Usain bolt could know in advance that 9.58 was the best he could run for the 100m then from the 9.72 world record he ran, be able to have his body in that same condition, be able purposely run 0.01 of a second faster each time the same way you can pick a height that is what is happening, think about that. Granted we don't know what Duplantis' maximum height will be yet, but you should understand what I am trying to say.
@@GodisBlackRev- that's why you can compare by how dominant they are in their sport compared to the competition, hence why the best decathletes aren't seen as the best t & f athletes
@@Smaalerbedwarswet No, because the margins for all event are different, and they are measured a different way. What I am saying is very simple.
Mondo is the best track and field athlete in the sport right now. He’s still got at least 4 years before he enters the all time conversation, but this season is looking like potentially the best track and field season ever
The problem is the event is weak as hell. Sprinters don't try it, jumpers don't try it, people without the equipment never try or learn it.
It does suck tbh, but it's the incentive given. Spot on afro
All due respect to Mondo please don’t compare him to Bolt. Let’s not act like the likelihood of winning gold in the 100 and 200 in comparison to the pole vault isnt less likely. Those are the premier events that actually has a lot more participants. Let’s stop the nonsense
I mean statistically, there's only one gold per event, so the chance is the same nonetheless.
@@JumpmanTF respectfully this is not true. How many people take on the 100 and 200 and how many participate in the pole vaults. I don’t know the figures but I’m sure Pole Vault in comparison to the sprints is not even close. So to dominate an event where you have a higher volume of participants is why I say the comparison for Bolt to Mondo is not close at all
@@jimmyjones2511 that’s what i’m saying
pole vaulting isn't as impressive as running events. so, he definitely isn't the Greatest Athlete in Track & Field.
Duplantis isn’t anywhere near any ATG list!
Same as PV 😂
My point is that there will be murkier athletes out there who could beat Mondo at PV if they’d bothered to try….
That traitor was born and raised Louisiana.
he’s great- but cheats on records, because he gets paid for every record, instead of doing his best, he just raises the bar one notch each time ,
no other sport has this ability , you can’t improve by one hundredth of a second each race, or by one inch on each throw, so his record number of records is a farce , raise the bar to 6.40 instead of 1 centimeter each time - bolt didn’t just race fast enough to beat everyone, he ran his fastest
unlike mondo who does only enough to increase 1 notch then quits - try for a real record by doing your best - he’d make a great politician - just do enough to get by
SYDNEY?????????
Femke bol and sydney are the most dominant
