11:36 doing the GOAT segment and entirely not mentioning Faith Kipyegon is criminal. I know you're not a distance guy, but she's Won Three Olympic 1500m golds, which NO ONE has ever done, man or woman. And also she interestingly also finished second in 2019 Doha. And since then she's Not been beaten in the 1500m and in the process broken the world record not once but twice and holds 5 of the 10 fastest times ever.

Sifan Hassan is aboslutely incredible. She's also the most confident yet insecure athlete I know. In interviews she is completely open about her doubts and fears during training blocks, before and even in races. She was worried about getting close to over-trained, just a few weeks before the games she was thinking ''Okay, bye bye Olympics" and only after running the 5k she got her confidence back. In the finale km's of the marathon she was feeling her legs and regretting doing the 5 and 10k before. And yet despite these ever present doubts she and her coach continue to set goals way beyond what anyone would even consider because they know she is capable of doing the impossible. The duality of elite athletics.
Mondo Duplantis, absolute legend. 75k people in the stadium waiting for you to finish your last 3 jumps while you take your time in between. It's the last event of the day. If you miss, it's gonna be a bummer. He hypes it up, and he makes it on the very last attempt. It doesn't get better than that.
@@phoebus He's also Swedish, and Sweden seemed to treasure him more, unlike the Americans who only come out after he's a world superstar on why he didn't represent the US.
@@phoebushe’s also Swedish. Ya know a LOT of other people are American born and represent other nations right? You don’t notice it cuz they’re all representing African countries and you’re just subtly racist. Team USA wanted to FIRE HIS DAD AS HIS COACH. He LIVES IN SWEDEN half the time.
Fantastic video! Beyond infuriating how the Olympics treated content creators this year, but you made the best of it and continue to be my go to authority on track and field!

Good video :) Honourable mentions to Thea LaFond for winning Gold in the triple jump and Dominica's first ever Olympic medal, and Faith Kipyegon for 3 consecutive Olympic golds in 1500m and a new OR!
Cole Hocker is one of the best Olympic moments for USA going way back. He literally got blocked on the homestretch, slowed behind the favorites and put on a kick that beat them both easily. It was awesome
By far my favorite content creator regarding T/F. No clickbait, no hassle, no 10 min video talking about things we all know and see 24/7. Just absolutely stunning!
I’d also have picked Duplantis as the GOAT at the end of your video… but I think Faith Kipyegon deserves to be a 5th nominee at the end there. Three straight golds in 1500, WR and OR holder Plus…she ALSO was only a silver medalist in Doha like the other 3 you were talking about!
I'd say Noah Lyles 100 metre win was more clutch just off the strength of the pressure he had. After all the talking he did, after underwhelming performances in the heat & semi finals, after the delay before the runners hit the blocks in that final etc. That was as clutch as it gets under the brightest of lights
@@thegoldfish123 You just told on yourself without realizing it. A photo finish was needed after five minutes to over-rule the first call that the Jamaican dude won. Basically they needed technology to give Lyles the win. I'm not arguing, but it was that close I would have given them both the gold medal.
Was waiting for the MVP category and Sifan Hassan was the only athlete in my mind. ALL THE TIME you'll hear about athletes "doing the double" or the "Sprint Triple". But one thing that is arguably even more impressive that you NEVER hear about from the media, is what Sifan Hassan did. Medaling in the 5K, 10K, and Marathon is much more impressive than medaling in the 100m, 200m, and 400m in my opinion.
200/400m double has only ever been done 3 times in the history of the Modern Olympics with the last time being 28yrs ago @Atlanta '96. The 100/200/400m Triple at that level is about as close you can get to an impossibility in the sport!
completely agree. Have not watched the video, but Hassan HAS to be the MVP. No one else even comes close. and clutch? How about Hamish Kerr holding his nerve in a jump off to be the first NZ male to win a track and field gold since John Walker in 1976!!
@@JumpmanTF My comment got deleted because I left a link to the timetable for next year's World Championships lol. Basically, I said that I saw the timetable for it, and it said that the men's 400m final is just *72 minutes* after the men's 200m semi finals. So if Tebogo wanted to do the 200/400 double, he'd have to run 2 races in the space of just over an hour. Why is that the case?! They should change it to allow doubling athletes to compete in 2 events. I'll be kinda annoyed if they don't change it tbh. What're your thoughts?
That's crazy! I guess because they know it's not the popular double right now. Hard to make a timetable to cater to everyone I'm sure. But I think if he announced he was going for it they'd change it purely for publicity sake.
Nah, you can't win the US Olympic trials in a sprint event and be an underdog lol. Masai Russell definitely had good odds to win. Great and thoughtful picks otherwise.
Yes… you can… if Sam Kendrick’s won Pole Vault gold he would be the underdog. The USA isn’t the whole entire world bro. If you’re ranked 15th in the world, winning the Olympic Trials doesn’t all of a sudden make you the top dog in the WHOLE WORLD.
@@q12aw50 Firstly, without Duplantis America does have multiple 6 meter jumpers that are gold medal contenders. Secondly America has more 100m hurdlers that could contend for gold than they can send to the Olympics so winning the US trials and running the world lead basically auto qualifies you to be the favorite
Really wish someone would talk about the women's 4x4 being 0.1 second from a WR and the last 3 steps were jogged. I was so disappointed. Letsile Tebogo was the T&F MVP for me. Especially since American TV rarely even discussed him before/after his races. I'm a lifelong T&F runner & fan. Hearing Olympic commentators sucking Lyles every moment they could was absolutely absurd. I know he had COVID, although I always say that winners never make excuses. But the commentators were claiming he'd be contesting Bolt's 200-meter record after he won the 100 by a few thousandths.
Watching that US W4x4 blowout win made me pine for a return of the Continental Cup as would love to see the very best US/North American Teams across all 5 Relays go up against the best of each Continent (would group the entire Caribbean as its own Team to keep things as competitive as possible). A EUR 4x4 of Bol, Adeleke, Kaczmarek & Anning & CAR 4x4 of Paulino, Shaunae, Pryce & Sada Williams vs that US W4x4 would be great to watch!
I would loved to have seen that USSR record drop. The women’s 400m is one of the events that benefits the most from doping, so to even get that close to the heavily doped Soviet team’s record is incredible!
1. Mondo uses the longest and stiffest pole ever used by anyone jumping. Once thought to be an impossible length of pole to jump off of. 2. The amount of energy needed to even engage the bend in a pole like that is far greater than body weight alone. You have to jump up and into the sweet spot with all of your running energy to go in the right direction, let alone bend the pole. Your margin for error is slim to non-existent. 3. The wider your grip, the stronger your shoulders and core have to be to absorb the impact. Mondo has a grip about 2.5x wider than the next best jumpers. Try a wide spread bench press next time you are at the gym. 4. If you have ever watched the static rings and seen them go from hanging to up on their hands to a hand stand... a kip maneuver to hand stand, that's basically what you are doing, motion wise, but the input forces are all different, obviously. 5. Then you have to have enough kinesthetic awareness while upside-down to clear the cross bar while not impaling yourself on your pole. All of that happens in less than 10 seconds, and most of that time is spent running. 6. And after you secure all of that, right at the last second, while still almost all the way upside-down, you have to do the absolute most unintuitive thing in the world. You have to tilt your head backward to initiate your parabolic arc correctly. It looks easy because he is the best ever. It's not...
Bro I took a picture on my cellphone and screenshot it on my PC, its absolute madness what he did I dont think people fully comprehend what he is doing.
I’d nominate Grant Fisher in the men’s 5000 for the clutch award as well, since he was way behind at the bell and had to claw his way through the pack over the final lap to grab bronze
@@JumpmanTF Yes but he was supposed to be running his leg in the low 44's, about three seconds faster than he did and the rest had to work a lot harder than they should have to get the US back into qualifying position. But I guess that's what can happen when you send a 16 year old kid to Paris with about two weeks of time on his hands. What do you think happened to make him 3 seconds slower?
Excitement of the olympics, and overall racing fatigue from the season. Dudes been going inhumanity fast all year. Also experience. He is 16 after all, doesn't know how to taper or be ready for a big moment like this.
Yes but I also don't think that the coaches put him in the relay in the proper place they should have put him as third leg not first leg it is extremely difficult to come out the blocks and have the same level of adrenaline that you have when you're taking the stick in any other position I would not have put him on second leg because you have to break out of the stagger and to the right position but the third leg would have been the safest for him to be on he would have had the adrenaline pumping and he would have not had the same pressure on him I think the coaches really underestimated the amount of pressure that would be on this could he also when you're in lanes entire time with the stagger it is psychologically different.
@@MrPek-fe9fp I think that the fact Stona beat 3 guys who have top 6 all time discus marks including the world record holder makes this one better, especially since he broke the Olympic record. @@AllInTheGame01 oh that is a good point. I didn’t even think about that. I still think that Roje had to beat a more talented field, with 3 top 6 throwers all time in it. But Lagi was definitely even less favorited to win than he was. This is actually super close in my mind now
How does the US W4x4 blowout win compare to Syd's 400mH blowout win?! S/O Thiam, Kipyegon & Crouser for being the only 3 T&F Athletes to 3-Peat ('16, '21 & '24). Mondo, Crouser, Kipyegon & El Bakkali are the only 4 athletes to win individual Gold in the last 4 Global Champs so on track to make it 5 in a row @'25 Tokyo WC. Katie Moon would've been #5 but narrowly missed out following her Silver Medal in the PV which was won by Nina Kennedy. S/O both Sifan Hassan for being such a talented & entertaining maniac with her 2nd successive OLY medalling in 3 Distance Events & JCQ's consistency for being the only female sprint hurdler to medal in each of the last 4 Global Champs! 21yr old Tebogo with 9.86/19.46/30.69/44.29 PBs who split 43.04 (2nd fastest ever) with 7 races already in his legs is the GENERATIONAL TALENT that 27yr old Lyles thinks he is! Quite possible that a 31yr old Lyles in LA '28 doesn't win OLY 200m Gold going up against a 24yr old Knighton, 25yr old Tebogo & 29yr old Kenny!
People are going to call me a hater for this, but I think it’s a very real possibility that Lyles’ 100m gold in Paris could be his last individual gold ever. Knighton and Tebogo aren’t getting any slower, and neither is the rest of the world (Kishane in particular) in the 100m.
@@Elliottklassen Understand & agree with where you're coming from re Kishane in the 100m but going with Tebogo to prevent Lyles from ever winning individual OLY 200m Gold as Knighton hasn't progressed since his 10.04, 19.49 & 19.69 from '22! It's heresy to say it but I think with the exception of Grant Holloway & Jasmine Moore that Coach Mike Holloway has underperformed with the majority of the talented Pro Athletes in his camp when you think of the performances/progression of the likes of Talitha Diggs, Knighton, Fahnbulleh, Bassitt, Jacory Patterson & many more over the last couple of yrs! Lyles has yet to run sub 19.5s in the 3 Major Meets where he's doubled 100/200m over the last yr & so will be looking to see if that pattern continues @USAs next yr (if he runs it given his Byes) & then @Tokyo WC! Pretty sure JAM fans esp will be looking for Kishane to beat him in the 100m in Tokyo & for Tebogo or Kenny to stop him from equalling Bolt's 4 WC 200m Golds!
this is just my opinion, but i think tobogo is more deserving of the mvp award because although the things sifan hassan is mind blowing and honestly one of the most amazing things in the olympics, tobogo earned botswana its only 2 medals in the entire olympics and they even named a holiday after him for it (again rhis is just my opinion, all of these athletes are crazy talented and i could never do what they do)
Ngl I don't think Tebogo should have been given it, like he did split the fastest leg but its not like he came back from far back to get the 2nd like with Bol for example. His teammates should be given so much praise for being able to stay with the stacked USA team so I don't think all the praise should be on Tebogo because after 3 legs they were still in 2nd only 0.24 seconds behind the USA. Tebogo ran brilliantly but he didn't run it solo and all his teammates ran impressively even when the USA slowest runner is a 44.31 guy and have a 44.10, 44.22 and a 44.21 anchor leg (going of PBs).
I think it needs to be said that breaking the world record several times in either pole vault or high jump is less impressive than breaking it multiple times in other events that don’t have a set mark you’re attempting to beat because you can choose to break it by like 1cm or something. Unlike other events like the shot put for instance, where Ryan Crouser broke the world record by 25 and then 19cm. He didn’t have the option to set the distance at 23.13m and then that was the mark no matter how far past it he threw and then rack up world records that way. Not trying to take away from Duplantis he’s still the goat and I think the best track and field athlete in the world right now, I just needed to get that off my chest
Actually HJ WRs are far more RARE so it's not really an advantage. Women's HJ WR stood for almost 37yrs before it was finally broken this yr & the Men's WR has stood for 31yrs!
@@AllInTheGame01 Okay yeah I hear you, but I think you’ve missed the point. I’m saying once the world record has been broken, it’s easier to rebreak it again because of the fact you can choose the margin you’d like to break the record by instead of having that margin be determined by how far beyond the old record you actually were. So like if Mondo’s new record was set as the height above the bar he vaulted plus the height of the bar, rather than the height of the bar itself
@@cows543 Yaroslava broke the 37yr old 2.09m Women's HJ WR a few wks ago & couldn't clear 2.01m in OLY Final! Equivalent Male & Female Generational Talents in the HJ compared to PV have struggled to break the WRs over the last 30+yrs as it's objectively a more difficult event!
Raising the bar 1cm in the Women's high jump is a 0.5% improvement. Running 1ms faster in the 100m is 0.01%.I get what ur saying but it all comes down to margin of improvement.
@@JumpmanTF yeah I’m not gonna lie as I was writing my response I realized that fact and I kinda began to disagree with myself. What about faith in the 1500 3 back to back gold medals, breaking her own world record earlier this season while opening up late due to injury don't think she beats mondo tho deffo deserves a mention along with thiam, crouser and sydney
Kovacs with the round 6 throw to take silver was definitely THE clutch moment for me, despite not being the winner of the comp it was still incredible.
There were so many Amazing performances at these the PARIS 2024 OLYMPICS. There might never be another OLYMPICS quite as entertaining and that includes the opening and closing ceremonies. Sure it wasn't perfect . But it was still simply OUTSTANDING from start to FINISH it was clear to see.
Not even mentioning remco for blowout is kinda criminal not gonna lie, 1 minute is alot in cycling and is also the first peron in history to win both the time trial and the race
This may be my thrower bias but Ryan Crouser takes the GOAT title. 1) He holds every record 2) He has the most Olympic golds of any shotputter ever at 3 3) On the list of top 25 farthest legal marked throws of all time he has 15 throws and 4 of the top 5 are him as well 4) There are only 4 men who have thrown over 23m in legal conditions. Between these 4 men there are only 14 throws and Ryan threw 9 of them. 5) He's always been dominant. He was extremely competitive both in high school and college 6) Won the last 2 majors (Olympics 2024 and world champs 2023) while injured Unrelated but he was also a baller discus thrower in high school and is the olympic discus gold medalist Stona's throwing coach
A TON of people saw Cole Hocker's win coming, just not the way he did it (kind of). Cole Hocker was the "If it goes slower then 3:28 or 3:29 then he will win" guy for nearly everyone. Everybody knows about his kick and that he would win if it went slow enough for him to utilize it. I don't think many expected him to win with a 3:27, but saying no one but hopeful fans expected him to win is just stupid.
If you ran a poll beforehand it would be a small percentage because of how dominating the other names were prior to the olympics. You can say he was definitely a hot medal contender, but to win?
@@JumpmanTF To be honest most people that follow 1500m closely knew it was nearly impossible for Ingebretsin to win, he has never gone under 3.30 without a pacemaker, and its a much easier run to have the best kick. And I was quite dissapointed to find I only got 4/1 Odds for betting on him, which makes it clear that a lot of informed people knew it was coming.
Maybe inside the US? He rarely races outside the US and is probably least known of the US male middle distance runners. I think I only saw his US trials run before the Olympics. No-one I knew in the T&F scene had him pegged for the win and that includes US fans.
Many ppl saying mentioning Faith. And while I get that… I actually wouldn’t have included her here either. What’s the difference between McLaughlin/DuP ‘s Olympics and faith’s? She didn’t set the world record. Not even close. What’s more, not one but TWO YOUNGER athletes were quicker than her Olympic record she just won with in the past 100 days. Thats not “solidifying”. I’ll say it and ppl will still fail to miss this point but I’ll do it anyway: she was phenomenal. But going off the parameters here, she actually conceded ground as the goat in THIS SPECIFIC event. The field is approaching her statistically much quicker than she lowered the limit. This is exactly what happens as a trail blazer UNTIL we’re at the limits of human performance. For women’s 1500m, we’re not even close yet. Contrast that to bolt. With legal wind barring major tech advancements in sprint surfaces or spikes, all things being equal from here and now, I don’t think a human can beat Bolt’s 100m. The kind of athlete that is required given how global sports have shifted with rise of media dollars, a 6’6 freak of nature athlete would be in a different sport. If bolt was a 10 year today, he’d probably be the most effective football striker in the world by the age of 18 not going to the Olympics. Faith delivered and won - that’s her job. How you set it up is the key and I think whether conscious or not is a very important distinction: “continue to solidly”. Winning gold is another feather but not if you run 2 seconds off a time you just beat 30 days ago. Again I’m not punishing her for Olympic cycles and rounds, but it’s exactly why a mid distance runner with a lot of responsibilities is very difficult to “solidify” their status specifically at the Olympics. That’s EXACTLY why we celebrate the Olympic record in the first place. Bc conditions are more grueling, mental and physical. As it pertains to goat level performances , she was fantastic but she didn’t perform to the “greatest of all time”. Ppl will get upset reading that but literally re read it. It’s not controversial. She’s competing against herself in this regard. Would this version of faith beaten herself from her world record ? Well no. Obviously. Bc the time was slower. A gold is a gold but the reason faith would have stood out for me if included as the other two did is she’s been better this year - the other 2 mentioned were best at this moment when the lights were brightest. How the segment is set up, I would agree with leaving her out. She’s still the goat. Thats not the question.
Ngl, I think Lyles 200m isnt the biggest choke (I know it wasnt in the video) like atleast he still got a medal. I think the biggest choke wasMolly Caudery not even making a clearance in the qualifying for pole vault coming in as the world lead. Then a less big coke was Jemma Reekie who didnt make the finals for the Womens 800m as the 2nd fastest runner this year and 4th place from Tokyo.
12:00 When it comes to the Heptathlon G.O.A.T., I still don't think that Nafissatou Thiam outlasts Jackie Joyner-Kersee who has such a big lead with her World Record over second place and owns the 6 top performances ever with a 259 points lead over Carolina Klüft at 7'032 points. Nafissatou Thiam is at 7'013 which is a massive gap. Remarkable to add is that Jackie Joyner-Kersee actually held the long jump (three-way tie) World Record at the same time as the blow-out heptathlon World Record. We would have to check if the heptathlon blow-out win is larger than the long jump blow-out win of Bob Beamon.
I totally get why Bubka is still considered by some to be the goat. Mondo's broken the WR 9 times, Bubka did it 35 or 36 times. We'll never know how high Bubka could have jumped at his peak, maybe as high as the WR is now (there were rumours of him jumping 6.30 in training at the time). But the main argument from my perspective is that the event didn't have a Bubka before Bubka came along, sure he broke the WR an absurd number of times, but there were a few athletes capable of breaking the WR at that time because it was a weak record. Bubka's records weren't weak, they were nearly untouchable. Still no one gets close to them...except Mondo who does it easily and consistently. I doubt he'll break the WR 35 times or whatever the number is, but he'll break it a lot and raise the WR beyond what Bubka was ever capable of. But I get why people still rank Bubka higher for now, it's a reasonable perspective in my opinion, I just disagree with it.
I agree with you in almost anything. Duplantis being this good is actually insane and i sleep on it sometimes. He is far above the rest for over 4 years. But faith kipyegon needed to be mentioned! 3 consecutive golds, new OR, world records more times. She is the greatest distance runner atm and she will probably win in LA aswel because she isnt very old. I also looked up the PR’s of hassan and those are insane, idk how she is so great in every distance from 800 - marathon🤯
Great recap, as usual :) Thank you! I assume relais do not count for the blow-out category, right? Because otherwise, even though I haven't done the math, the women 4x400m must be the biggest - EDIT: I did the math and I was wrong: 2,2%. It looked so much more that it really makes 5% an incredible feat
Heavy disagree on Masai Russel being an underdog. There was already too much parity in the womens 100mh and she had the world lead (not to mention USA champ) going into the Olympics. She was definitely a favorite going into the Olympic games.
Disagree. This is easily the most competitive event in Track right now, it's almost anyone's win based on times and form this season. Look at the post Olympics DL performances in Lausanne and Silesia.
@@tjwilli5438 I respectfully disagree, she was never mentioned as the favourite by any pundits I listened to or read before the Olympics and I spend a lot of time following T&F. Yes, she had the WL, maybe in the US she was considered favourite because she won the Champs but none of the American sites I follow singled her out. I wasn't surprised to see her win but anyone in that field could have taken it and I probably expected the French crowd d to pull Samba-Mayela through.
She has 2 Gold medals this Olympics and won Gold last Olympic Games. She won the relay 400. She mastered the one event which is cool but Thiam won three Olympics Gold in hepthalon....which is seven events yo. True all rounder and first woman to do this. Not sure why she gets no respect for doing this.
@@mcentepede Ye the muli eventers deserve more respect period. It's insane what they do. Sometimes I feel like saying they are the greatest track and field athletes of all time.
Pole Vault is a weird one, when the bar goes over or near 6m the athletes start using much longer poles... makes you wonder why they dont just use much longer poles all the time, and also its a really niche event the vast majority of young athletes who have the potential to be great pole vaulters never touch the event because of the equipment and how hard it is to transport the equipment. So Duplantis as legendary as he is is only competing against a tiny fraction of the competition that someone like Lyles is competing against, it doesnt diminish his performances but it really does nullify the margin of victory for example if he was competing against Bubka he might win by 5-10 cm wheras in the mens 100m the most popular event everyone is a Bubka. Underdog was Cole Hocker for me because of the time he set. Another good take Jumpman, keep up the good videos.
What is your opinion on the mondo vs karsten 100m? Who do you think will take the win and in what time? I think track and field fans will win because this race is even more hype than some events in the olympics… and this 100m is so great for the sport!!!
I'm so excited for it. Definitely gonna be the highlight of that diamond league. And idk man, duplantis would do way more speed work, but warholm has to be ungodly fast. My initial pick was duplantis so I'm going to stick with it but it's such a good race cause ya really don't know who could take it haha.
Surely these awards are all way more in favour of the more established and popular sports considering most of these were in athletics when theres a myriad of other sports
Not to mention theres more medals to be won for track and gymnastics than there is for say sport climbing so even if there was a massive blowout a climber can dominate way more than a track athlete and not qualify. Not hating or anything i just like seeing the smaller sports get representation over just the same few sports all the time
Faith and Thea LaFond should have been mentioned, but definitely Hasan with the Marathon and 2 other medals. She said every single step in the Marathon hurt, but she endured.. what courage!
She's great no doubt. But you guys don't want to state the obvious. She mastered the one event. The 400 metre hurdles. Not gonna say she played it safe, but at least Femke tried the relay 400 and mix relay 400. I think she burned herself out a bit for the 400 hurdles and got smoked by Levrone. Still it made people watch that women's event. I never really cared for the event b4.
@@mcentepede Bol only competed in the mixed 400 final. That was her only race prior to the 400 hurdles Obviously the womens 4x400 was after the 400 hurdles
A MUCH better highlight would have been her entering into the 400m.... Everyone knows she can jog the 400mh and win. Same reason Duplontis is NOT the Goat. Breaking your own world record by a tiny margin = a joke. Not impressive doing that.
@mcentepede One event huh, the women's 4x400m relay race for the gold medal was over on Sydney's 2nd leg of the relay. Every other country was racing for silver and bronze at that point.
Still just can’t get over Assefa blatantly cheating and trying to tackle/shove Sifan, admitting after the race she didn’t want to lose and was willing to do anything to win and she shouldn’t have done it, then lies under oath and actually tries to get Sifan disqualified when Assefa had already admitted she intentionally cheated and was the one who should be DQ’d, appeal fails and she publicly admits she lied and just tried to cheat the system to see if it would work. What a genuinely horrible person that should be banned and stripped for life in all seriousness

Yes! Once in a generation athlete, for damn sure.
I still think that he missed the first two jumps on purpose for the sake of the drama. He's a showman.
He's an American. It would better if he was jumping for the US.
@@phoebus He's also Swedish, and Sweden seemed to treasure him more, unlike the Americans who only come out after he's a world superstar on why he didn't represent the US.

Good video :) Honourable mentions to Thea LaFond for winning Gold in the triple jump and Dominica's first ever Olympic medal, and Faith Kipyegon for 3 consecutive Olympic golds in 1500m and a new OR!
Have to mention for underdog: Markus Rooth in the Decathlon was rank 10 before the Olympics...
Three straight golds in 1500, WR and OR holder
Plus…she ALSO was only a silver medalist in Doha like the other 3 you were talking about!
DOHA did something WEIRD. And my bad missing kipyegon!
Finallyyyyy, I feel like not enough people are recognizing what Sifan Hassan did. Props to you
0:11 Three World Records, we also had the mixed 4x400m relay World Record by the USA in the first round.
I'd say Noah Lyles 100 metre win was more clutch just off the strength of the pressure he had. After all the talking he did, after underwhelming performances in the heat & semi finals, after the delay before the runners hit the blocks in that final etc. That was as clutch as it gets under the brightest of lights
It was a photo finish. I thought the Jamaican guy won. They needed to replay the video and use technology to give Lyles the win.
@@mcentepede
You can’t say that the Jamaican guy won when the photo finish show Noah winning. What you smoking?
@@thegoldfish123 You just told on yourself without realizing it. A photo finish was needed after five minutes to over-rule the first call that the Jamaican dude won.
GET TEBOGO IN SOME 400 DIAMOND LEAGUES RIGHT NOW.
Hahaaha. Dude could go crazy in the 200/400 double. But his 100 is so good would be a shame to not develop it.
@@JumpmanTF Exactly! Mind you, I wouldn’t put it past him to do it either way lol, Hassan-esque!
Nah, you can't win the US Olympic trials in a sprint event and be an underdog lol. Masai Russell definitely had good odds to win. Great and thoughtful picks otherwise.
Agreed plus she was world leader on time going into the games. I feel like the real winner is stona

3 steps isnt gonna make your time 0.1 seconds faster at that point
Might be right, but still wish we didn't have to speculate.
It does madden me hahah. Even tebogo slowing at the 200 line. He could have a 19.4 low!

Quincy Hall was my favorite performance. The 100 gets all the hype but its not a difficult race the 400 is.
That picture at 13:11...
I wish people understood how much insanity is captured in that one picture.
It's not...

I’d nominate Grant Fisher in the men’s 5000 for the clutch award as well, since he was way behind at the bell and had to claw his way through the pack over the final lap to grab bronze
The biggest choke for the US was Quincy Wilson. His 47.30 leg nearly cost the US men the 4x400 Gold Medal.
I'd agree, but they didn't miss it because of the rest of the boys clutch effort. Was awesome to watch.
I genuinely think that Roje Stona’s win was the greatest upset in the history of throwing
I think 2012 olympic win in javelin from Walcott was even bigger upset. Although i remember he only threw like 84,50.
What you think? I think those 2 are pretty much close to each other. Great achievement from Stona. I expected Alekna or Ceh to win for sure.

Excellent picks! Great Video
Can't just put the bar up to 2.11m and think she'll clear it anytime soon for a new WR like you can for the likes of Mondo & Isinbayeva back in the day.
Oscar for Olympics goes to Noah.
This may be my thrower bias but Ryan Crouser takes the GOAT title.
1) He holds every record
2) He has the most Olympic golds of any shotputter ever at 3
3) On the list of top 25 farthest legal marked throws of all time he has 15 throws and 4 of the top 5 are him as well
4) There are only 4 men who have thrown over 23m in legal conditions. Between these 4 men there are only 14 throws and Ryan threw 9 of them.
5) He's always been dominant. He was extremely competitive both in high school and college
6) Won the last 2 majors (Olympics 2024 and world champs 2023) while injured

5 TIME GOLD CUBA WRESTLING CHAMP COME ON MAN
A TON of people saw Cole Hocker's win coming, just not the way he did it (kind of).
I cant lie Hocker surprised me. Good for him though!!

5:14 fun fact: the betting company cancelled their win out of nowhere 💀
Yooo I forgot about the Molly choke. Watched it live, as all 3 nz pole vaulters made it through. That was wild.
I love your content!!!
You forgot to put Tbogo in the God tier
4:01 I knew that Cole Hocker would medal, but I expected the bronze medal, not gold.
13:15 let’s be honest, he’s giving himself room to get more records
Imo it's Mondos clearances that make him the goat. Was Bubka clearing 50 cm above his world records? Maybe close, but not every time he did it.
You're gonna hit me with the Wavetable for the GOAT talk!?

I agree with you in almost anything. Duplantis being this good is actually insane and i sleep on it sometimes. He is far above the rest for over 4 years. But faith kipyegon needed to be mentioned! 3 consecutive golds, new OR, world records more times. Because otherwise, even though I haven't done the math, the women 4x400m must be the biggest - EDIT: I did the math and I was wrong: 2,2%. It looked so much more that it really makes 5% an incredible feat
The US Women's 4x400 gold deserved, at least, a nomination in the blowout category.
Heavy disagree on Masai Russel being an underdog. There was already too much parity in the womens 100mh and she had the world lead (not to mention USA champ) going into the Olympics. She was definitely a favorite going into the Olympic games.
It's a tough one. Cause she got the world lead. but one fast time doesn't make the athlete. An olympic title does though.
Disagree. This is easily the most competitive event in Track right now, it's almost anyone's win based on times and form this season. Look at the post Olympics DL performances in Lausanne and Silesia.
@@NelleBligh333 sure its the most competitive but there Russel was definitely a favorite so there’s no way she can be an underdog
8:28 Rushell Clayton was the closest to a 5.04% finish of 52.91s.
Bro you never mentioned that Angelina Topic got to a high jump final with a broken leg
I couldn't name em all. Although that was next level clutch.
If you had watched the US trials, Cole Harker would not have been a shock!
Kind of true. Haha
Many Americans were MVPs! Many!
America definitely dominated this year
Bro you can’t sleep on the Canadian 4X100M team they we underdogs
Thank you for praising Hasan! Amazing olympics from her! One of the greatest ever!
I know you aren’t disrespecting my boy Emil Zatopek’s 1952 5k/10k/marathon triple gold by calling it amateur hour lol.
Syd only having 1 gold for 400mh is genuinely hard to believe. I thought she had way more than that.
The biggest blowout in Olympic history was probably Bob beamon at mexico '68
So glad you gave Nafi her flowers
Been a fan ever since she was on average robs youtube channel, teaching them how to do a heptathalon. If you haven't seen it I recommend it.
@@JumpmanTF I really like his series where he learns from important Belgian athletes especially his video with Nafi :)
What about the Paralympics they are amazing athletes and would be great to get some more coverage.
2:48 yeah we haven’t even seen one
no way you put choke under the current 100m olympic gold medalist
Nothing like a Lil tease.
@@JumpmanTF so you tear down Noah for clicks🙄
Well, he did choke in the 200. "But he had COVID". Okay, bro.
8:16
I believe it states 6.72cm clearance they just use weird font.
Yep I'm starting to see that. LOL
Not hating or anything i just like seeing the smaller sports get representation over just the same few sports all the time
Sorry man, just a track and field channel haha.
I know it isn't athletics - but shoutout to Kayaker Lisa Carrington... 8golds over 3 Olympics...
Summer McIntosh in swimming 4 medals at 17
They did say it was a fast designed track
Faith and Thea LaFond should have been mentioned, but definitely Hasan with the Marathon and 2 other medals. She said every single step in the Marathon hurt, but she endured.. what courage!
4:05 His name is Jakob not Jacob
McLaughlin-Levrones performance in the 400m hurdles was a huge highlight also by destroying the field and beating her own world record.
That was her only race prior to the 400 hurdles
Obviously the womens 4x400 was after the 400 hurdles
A MUCH better highlight would have been her entering into the 400m.... Everyone knows she can jog the 400mh and win. Same reason Duplontis is NOT the Goat. Breaking your own world record by a tiny margin = a joke. Not impressive doing that.
@@mcentepedeSydney did run the 4x400. She gave the US a huge lead.
@mcentepede
One event huh, the women's 4x400m relay race for the gold medal was over on Sydney's 2nd leg of the relay. Every other country was racing for silver and bronze at that point.
Duplantis just too good. He should have his own olympics. Maybe have him compete against a kangeroo.
THROWING AWARD 💯🗣️🗣️🗣️💯💯
Didn’t the women’s 4x400 DESTROY the rest of the field? I thought I saw the highlight and it was mind boggling
They did, but when you work out the percentage, it wasn't as much as a lot of the individual performances.
What a genuinely horrible person that should be banned and stripped for life in all seriousness
biggest blowout in olympic history - bob beaman maybe? or jackie joyner kersee?
How do you win the 100m with a PB have a lung virus take bronze in the fastest 200 ever, WITH said virus, and be a "choke"? Tf are you talkin about? lol The MVP is HOCKER THE SHOCKER!
Because whenever he loses, he says he has covid
@@RebeccaTaylorTillery he’s had Covid before at 2 other worlds and won
@@RhenCassiy I am not saying that he hasn't won with covid. I am saying that every time he loses, he says he has covid. He keeps using it as an excuse when he loses.
@@RebeccaTaylorTillery but he literally got Covid before events. Consider he spends most of his time in the cleanest open air for his daily training. Consider that he was a chronically ill child with asthma. Consider that Covid, a respiratory disease, is a game changer because it brings underlying conditions to the surface. All of those things makes him vulnerable when exposed to crowds. Hence, him regularly catching Covid before events
Until Syd can beat Paulino, Syd's the GOAT of Ducking and Hiding Out in the graveyard of sprints, the 400H
Let's see Paulino run the 400m hurdles, and see how she does.
Sydney was also the first person to sign up for Grand Slam Track in 2025. When Paulino eventually signed up for GST, I see she "conveniently" signed up for the grouping that doesn't include Sydney, so who is ducking who?
Cole Hocker had the cheapest win I’ve ever seen!
mmm. Gabby Thomas and Naffi Thiem for my money.
