The funny thing is I believe this and "Dance with the devil" are his only storytelling songs. He's known for political raps. "The 4th Branch" is my favorite song of his about the media. Maybe in a year and a half you can give it a shot! 😂
He has more upbeat tracks too, like Goonies, 3rd world, Rich man's world, Civil War, Point of no return. You just heard two of his mentally heaviest tracks
She pushed him away because she knew she was going to die soon. So she didn't want him to get close but dam this song always hits the feels lol You're definitely entitled to your opinion though. 😊
I agree, Immortal Technique songs always sounded like high school creative writing assignments to me. And his flow sounded like he was reading them, too. I never understood the infatuation with him other than the shock factor of his content.
That’s a really good call. I thought that his freestyles or some of his battles could be fun to listen to back in the day, but I never thought he was some kind of deep genius. This stuff does not hold up to people like Nas, or any of the deeper thinkers out there.
Rich Mans World is my favorite Immortal Technique track. I think you'd like it too. Much sharper flow and charismatic presence. His early stuff is a bit rough around the edges as far as flow; delivery, breath control, clarity, etc. But he improved his delivery over the years.
😂 You crack me up Brian. “I wonder why he decided to get her hiv position through blood transfusion instead of…you know the other way…getting fucked”. I died 😂. I’m not a huge Technique fan like most, and he should have leveraged Jean better like maybe have her side of the story.
I’m pretty sure most of Immortal Technique’s catalog wouldn’t appeal to you tbh, but I do have a feeling you’d quite enjoy the track “Rich Man’s World.” I dunno, it just strikes me as being the kind of song you seem to tend to really like.
the song is actually great story telling, if Nas or Royce da 5'9" would've told it, it would've been delivered way better. Never really like IT's flow, he has the awkward off beat on beat that i got annoyed with when rappers started doing that in 98-00
Dance with a devil is a great song. Amazing even. But it doesn’t have replay value, and it’s more of a cautionary tale than a deterrent I’d say. But if you want more happy songs check out Brother Ali - Own light, Pray for me, Chain link
Lol. No bueno for Immortal Technique? That's a shame. Yes, you are correct that he wrote it as a deterring song. He said in an interview that all these dudes were on MTV and BET acting like selling drugs etc. was all fun and games with a big smile on your face. Please react to Industrial Revolution in Oct 2024 when you're doing the next Immortal Technique song lol.
He has said in an interview once that it's a story he heard while in prison. It was supposedly a true story; mostly. I'm sure he embellished for the song
Yes, I have several requests for Atmosphere on my list and I've reacted to God's Bathroom Floor and The Waitress. Do you have a particular song by them that you think would make for a good reaction?
I'm not into emotional type rap songs. I like the beat, but it didn't match the content. The beat is like a mellow sitting on the beach smoking weed and drinking Pina Coladas or something. You need a fun song, Crazy Rap by Afroman is fun song.
Dunno what made you so quick to pick up the only other song that he rhymes about this depressing subject matter. I told you many times to check out the political songs like Point of No Return, 4th Branch, Cause of Death, Harlem Streets, 3rd World, Eye in the Sky, Freedom of Speech or any of the other ones. How did you select the tracks to react to, are you just looking what other youtubers react to?
Aww another miss. This song is so different from every other track on the album. I don't mind it, but the highlights to me are the production and Jean on the hook. I much prefer the politically charged tracks on the rest of Rev. vol 2, like Harlem Streets, 4th branch, Peruvian cocaine
Please do one more song by immortal technique and you don’t have to do another one again. The name of the song is “Point of no return”. Please and thank you.

Honestly, Immortal Technique has a weird confluence of some more interesting leftist politics along the lines of Vinnie Paz and Dead Prez but he also has songs like this that are kind of ignorant. I think it’s much more interesting to have a song about somebody who has HIV from sex or drug use or anything like that and can show that bad things can happen to people just due to random circumstance or falling victim to drug addiction or not using protection with somebody, they don’t know, etc. it’s kind of trite and corny to be like “look she didn’t even deserve it like all those other people who get it“ it’s also very strange that during that time frame it was probably not super likely that that would be how you would contract it since they started testing for it in blood transfusions in the late 80s as far as I know, and unfortunately back then you probably wouldn’t get a blood transfusion that was HIV positive and then live for another 20 years. My oldest brothers friend passed away when he was 15 because of a blood transfusion that was HIV infected but that was in 1983. There’s part of it to me that’s like who cares about a story like this. Not like I don’t sympathize with somebody passing away from anything but it just doesn’t seem that mine blowing at the end of the day for all of that set up for that to be the punchline. It’s like somebody trying to do a twist ending on a movie and they’re basically just stating something that could easily happen, and wouldn’t be that much of a surprise in many situations.
i understand you not liking his flow, i actually agree. his flow does get better with time though. if sex is possible why not sharing needles? idk why you latched on to that point and called it a cop out. im not saying your wrong because i have no idea but if the story is true and she did get it by sex or drugs tech isnt gonna put that out there for everyone to know out of respect. if she didnt tell you then you dont need to know. either way though the main point is to appreciate and not take advantage of those special people. also there is tons of legit fraud rappers haha techs not the one... most likely at least :) damn i talk to much. the two you have heard are the two main sad songs. I hope you give him another shot because there is more to him.
This and dance with the devil are great story telling songs but are LITERALLY his worst songs sonically, very basic flow, both from his first album, he improves 10,000% for his second album and creates one of the most classic albums in hip hop history, redefining what conscious hip hop is, in the process becoming the most successful independent artist in the world at the time
Those 2 songs were the most requested Tech songs. I have a few more requests on my list. Give me a title that I should react to and I'll see if it's on my list.
i’m with you, brian. immortal technique is one of the most overrated underground rappers to me. he sounds the same on every song, in terms of his flow. i love his viewpoint on politics and history, but delivery counts to me, and his is mid.
Meh. Not a fan of this one either to be honest. Especially after hearing Dance With The Devil (which I do like), the little moral of the story wrap up feels a bit too formulaic for my taste. And his flow was awkward on this one.
