This is what I love about the next few series: they really start leaning into the time travel aspect of the show. They do cool stuff like have River communicate to the Doctor in "real time" from 12,000 years in the past.
I love this one!! Between River and the Angel, it's so fun to see the Doctor get so frustrated that River's and his timeline are so out of wack. Plus, I love the actor who plays Octavian (Iain Glen) ❤
I see Weeping Angels, I click video and don't blink, it's just that simple 😂. So glad they made this a spectacle as a double-billed episode. Certainly one of the more darker entries of the season and right up my alley. The intro is just such a good showcase of how time travel can work in the Dr. Who universe with leaving messages thst echo through time, etc... it's also explored in Torchwood, so it's cool that it's a consistent theory 🥰. Also I loved your reaction when "Dr. Song" was revealed hehe, she's awesome 🥰💖. Can't wait for the next part! 💖
Hi Jules 🙋♂... River Song is definitely 1 of my favorite characters from the series. She's a great actress ... brings so much to each episode she appears in. I'm glad you got to see her again, and I got to see you see her again 😂😉👍
So fun fact this episode and its second half were the first episodes filmed for this series so it was the first time Matt Smith and Karen Gillan worked together on set
This is one of my all time favourite episodes! Ive been looking forward to this one! I like the dynamic between River and the Doctor and I'm glad you're enjoying it too 😊 Great reaction again Jules!
The episode was partially inspired by Aliens. In Blink and Alien, we are seeing civilians having to deal with a horror creature(s), while in the sequel we have military, who is capable of combat, but the monsters are more numerous
Gotta love a Riversong episode! Also as a fan of horror, I think the angels are a great addition to Doctor Who! But I do agree with you that the previous angels story was more scary.
This is another great time when you're going into this getting surprised by things that at the time were known well in advance; the fact that the episode featured River Song and the return of the Weeping Angels, in this case. On a random trivia note; Matt Smith actually did bite Karen Gillian's hand in that scene; apparently he did it randomly in a few takes and Karen was never quite sure whether to expect it.
When I first saw this episode and River said "What do you know about the weeping angels?" I had the exact same reaction, those things terrify me. This is a really exciting episode though.
Infodump: The "You leave your brakes on" thing was promptly retconned later as every TARDIS ever seen does the same noise. Those "dampers" only work inside the tardis. Anyone outside would still hear the worping, even with those "boring blue levers" on
But it does have a silent landing mode. We get one in the next season in fact. They make the same noise, because the show makers always did it for the audience to know that's a TARDIS, even when it's not his TARDIS, or back in the classic series when he had fixed the chameleon circuit and it took all sorts of shapes, not just a police box.
Love watching you react to doctor who. Its a great feeling watching your emotions and seeing a projected version of the emotions I felt when watching these episodes for the first time. For culture reference, when series 4 was airing, the final episode Journeys End was delayed a week because Wimbledon overran. I was devastated!
About River. What an amazing concept of time travel, isn't it? Two people travel through time in opposite directions. Because of this the Doctor learns more about River, but at the same time, with each new meeting, River knows less and less about the Doctor. So now we can suggest that the Doctor and River's final meeting will be the complete opposite of the events in the library - the Doctor will know everything about River, and she will know nothing about him.
This was the first episode I ever watched of Doctor Who. 2011 after coming back from Europe where some people I was traveling with kept talking about it (specifically the Weeping Angels!) I immediately fell in love with River.
I remember how excited I was for this episode when it first aired (series 5 was the first I watched “live”, after having binged series 1-4 and most of classic Who), and I wasn’t disappointed! The TARDIS scene was so good, she’s right at home with her heels hanging on the scanner and turning off the brakes (she’s definitely just teasing the Doctor about that btw, since all TARDISes make that noise lol. She probably just knows a setting to make it land silently). I was also not expecting the cliffhanger to be at that point (although I knew it was a two parter), that last scene with the Doctor pointing the gun up and saying “there is one thing you never put in a trap” was in all the trailers so I knew it by heart at that point 😂 Awesome reaction as usual, I like your thoughts about River and can’t wait to hear more in the next reaction!
PLEASE tell me I’m not the only one who laughed when Eleven answered the radio saying “Hello, Angels.” and I’m not mad seeing it as a Charlie’s Angels reference. Oh, and hi, Ser Jorah! And “Hello, sweetie!” is SO going to be a shibboleth for River Song and the Doctor Who fanbase.
Thanks again for another great reaction dear Juliette! How smart of you to figure out that the soldier talking over the comm was already dead. You're such a switched-on hardcore fan who knows this show better than any of us! As River would say: "You're good… You are _very_ good!" By the way, you raised the issue of WHY the Doctor and River keep meeting in reverse order. I don't think there's any deliberate reason, merely coincidence.
Aww thank you 💜 Sometimes there's so much going on, it can be hard to catch everything but I usually pick up on anything else during editing as well 😊😊
This was the first episode of Series Five to be shot, and therefore the first featuring Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. This is the second time that a new Doctor began his tenure by recording something other than his first adventure. Peter Davison had initially taped his second story, Four To Doomsday, while his introduction in Castrovalva was actually the fourth of his serials to be shot.
Don’t forget this is River before we see her die in the library so that probably why she different since we last saw her. Her and The Doctors timeline are mix up here. They keep meeting in the wrong other in their timeline together and the weeping angels are back. Not them bloody things again and this time they nap necks this time. Oh god. 😂
This is going to be a great episode today with the Weeping Angels and Dr. River Song played by Alex Kingston i really enjoy her character have a wonderful rest of the week thanks again Juliette.👋🇦🇺
This episode was pretty awesome to me from the point where River escapes (let's face it, she is a BA!!) to the point where the Doctor shoots a gun (one of the few times we see him with a gun). But I like that he did not use the gun on his opponents (the Angels), rather to create an opportunity! As for Amy; the Doctor did say "that which holds the image of an angel becomes itself an angel." The image of the angel is in the eyes, inverted on the retinas! And especially because she kept looking at the eyes of the angel in the video, she was then susceptible to becoming one! The head soldier is Iain Glen who would go on to play Ser Jorah Mormont on Game of Thrones (in case you've watched the show...). Such a cliffhanger! Can't wait!
Hello sweety intensifies! River is back! Oh we've ALL waited for this! No blinking intensifies! The Angels are back! ...mixed receptions about this. For many this is the one they started to ruin the Angels with the "the image of the angel itself becomes an angel" -line and (for the lack of better wording) "upgrading" their powers. To me the biggest crime they make in regards to the Angels though is that they SHOW us them move their head (in the next episode though). They just work far better remain far more scary when we DON'T see them move but instead see how close they get bit by bit over time. Plus it also implies their "true form" IS the said Angel statue, instead of it being just a cover they form once being seen as told before. Also, personally I'm not all that fond of how they now also make the Angels straight up murder their target instead of their original power where their touch just sent people back in time. (Despite me saying I wasn't all fond of that power back in Blink) I mean, I guess they can choose to do it or not, I suppose, but... still. On the next one, the one where Angel is full of Forest!
No spoilers obviously (known by Whovians as ‘The River Rule’ because ‘Sshh….spoilers’) BUT something that’s worth noting: River first showed up while RTD was the show runner, but her library two-parter was written by Steven Moffat, he invented her. And he took over as show runner when 11 took over from 10, so her creator is now in charge and free to set up arcs/grand plans of his own…. I love River, and love your reactions as ever, thank you !
This was actually the first production of the Matt Smith era (2009)- that happens at times, due to cast, weather, scripts. So, Matt, and Karen find their feet quickly, Alex K' returns,....and it's not easy to avoid blinking.
Truthfully I didn't become a River Song fan until a future story and her Big Finish audio plays (I do recommend them but suggest waiting until you're towards the end of Matt Smith's time on the show) but this was a fun reappearance by her after her debut last season! The Angels are one of my favorite DW monsters, definitely in the top 3 alongside the Mondasian (1960s) Cybermen and The Midnight Entity (the monster that repeated everything the Doctor said)
The end is another great speech from 11 and one of the reasons he's my favorite Doctor. Amy is another reason. They're so good together. I'd love to see the two of them work together on another project.
Just in case you didn't know, Steven Moffat took over running the show at the beginning of this season, and he wrote the stories that introduced us to the Weeping Angels and River Song
Most of the Weeping Angels are not statue props but young women wearing masks, costumes and paint that took two to three hours to apply. Adam Smith called them "an absolute nightmare to film with" because it took a long time for them to get ready and they had to stand still for long periods of time.
Steven Moffat didn't waste much time in bringing back his two biggest creations from the RTD era: River Song and the Weeping Angels. I agree that while this story is good, it's got nothing on Blink. Blink is still one of my favourite Doctor Who stories, but it's hard to recapture the magic of the Angels' first appearance. One small thing I don't like about this episode is the joke about the Doctor leaving the TARDIS' brakes on. This simply isn't true. Not only has the Doctor's TARDIS always made that sound (originally created by scraping a key along piano wire), but every other TARDIS seen in classic Who made the same sound. Unfortunately Moffat is a self-described "slutty writer" and will sometimes write jokes regardless of the implications. Other than that though, it's a really good two-parter, packed with important moments. This was actually the first episode they filmed for the season, so a lot of our first looks at Eleven and Amy came from location photos from this episode. The whole concept of the church becoming militarised again, as it was in times past, is an interesting one. It's also tantalising to gleam some more details about River. You will get the full story eventually, but Moffat does a greay job of drip-feeding it to the audience. Oh and Moffat confirmed that River had other adventures with the Tenth Doctor offscreen, and a few years we finally got some in an audio box set called Expiry Dating. I'm glad you're enjoying this one so far Jules, I can't wait to see what you think of the next part.
Ashley!! I hope you have an excellent weekend!! I never knew there would be so much controversy about the TARDIS brakes haha! I thought it was a hilarious moment (blue boring-ers was GREAT) and didn't realise that it was a bit wrong 😅

Hello, Jules!💜 An excellent episode, as you noticed, it gets you all wrapped up in what's happening and, before you know it - the end, for this week.😅 1:18 - With the wink of an eye. Yes! Exactly who you think it is. But, exactly who is she? A most cheeky character, however she fits into the Doctor's life. I love the banter between her and the Doctor. She definitely knows how to get under his skin.😜 "I had lessons from the very best. It's a Shame you were Busy that Day!" 🤣And she can fluster him instantly.🥰 Yes the Angels are less impacting here, than in Blink, and for the reason you state. This is a story of the Doctor, and River Song, with Angels, and a bit of a whingy, and disobedient Amy, demanding but not listening, then asking after the fact. River is certainly an enigmatic character 🧐 6:58 Amy could have been a little forthcoming here - like, maybe, but the video has changed.... 9:03 - Another moment of prediction - well done, Jules!🙌 Always on top of the plot.😉 The whole conversation with sacred Bob is fairly chilling here. But, cue the music, and the Doctor delivers the never put in a box speech...🥰 Great episode. I am thrilled you were so rapt with the story. I am very eager to see the next one with you. Happy day, Jules.💜🤗💜 I hope you get your work done, to your satisfaction, and knock off a tad early, so you can get to relaxing whilst ideas spring to mind as to what you can do in future tomorrows. Be Well.😊
Tom 🤗💜 Indeed this was a lovely episode, and nice to see River again! She's one intriguing lady who just OOZES charm and charisma. I would actually like to be more like her 🤣 I don't know what to think of her and her story yet (I'm not that far ahead with Who as I am with Buffy/Angel) but I've no doubt we will find out one day. She's a lovely lady, and I just hope she continues to be! I don't want her to be a secret meanie 😜 It's really hard not to compare these angel episodes to Don't Blink. That episode was just so special, and I still think of Sally Sparrow to this day. I really, really loved that episode. There's a lot going on in this two-parter that focuses on many things as well as the angels, so it might not be **as** impactful for me, personally, but I still loved it! And I don't want to compare so I won't 😅 I'm SO interested to find out more about River.... Time will tell! But I am definitely a fan. In fact, I am enjoying ALL of the characters so far! Amy is lovely, and the 11th Doctor has won me over 🥰 Thank you, Tom 🤗💜 I hope you had a good day! I'm so ready for the weekend. My work gets done bit by bit each day, but I never seem to catch up. One day 🤣
Yes, Jules.💜 The original Blink was a most special story. It's the one I often refer people to, when they ask about Doctor Who, but don't want to commit to a "kids" show, or whatever. It's a very clever, one of a kind story, and Sally Sparrow will always be one of my favorite characters. She, the actress, did a marvelous job, and really sold the story. Once again a powerful, yet sad tale, very moving I think, as well. 💜
I love that trap speech so much. It's the first time the darkness that you saw in the ninth doctor really pops out in the eleventh. Eleven is such a good romp, but he can really get you when he gets all serious like that. I enjoy River so much more now than I did the first time round. I was just terribly confused and wasn't really sure I liked her, which was weird, because I have always adored Alex Kingston. But second time around and every time thereafter I really liked her, even if she is crazy over the top blowing herself out of airlocks. Unfortunately, it means Amy doesn't get much screen time when River is around and I don't think Amy is well enough established yet to take this much time from her so soon, but it is only one episode. Well, two. I am just anxious to get back to Earth and the things that Amy has been putting off.
It's probably not too surprising to see the Angels and River Song again as both were created by Moffat so it's natural he'd want to do more with them as showrunner, in fact when River first appeared they did seem to be clearly setting her up as a recurring character to be explored in the future. I do find it amusing how an episode with Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont in Game of Thrones) involves something arguably similar to greyscale ;)
Blink is almost a perfect episode. I’m not upset that the angels come back, but I do agree it takes away from the terror in the episode. I absolutely love River, and it’s fun watching you get to know her.
Originally, the episode 'Blink' was meant to be the only Weeping Angel's episode. However, the episode received such positive reviews that the show runners decided to make the Angels a recurring Doctor Who enemy.
For reference, the spaceship in this story is the Byzantium. When the Doctor met River for the first time back in the library episode, ‘Crash of the Byzantium’ was one of the incidents in her diary that she asked him if he’d done yet.

Brilliant episode! It is so perfectly done,
The first day of filming on the beach! I still remember when the photos were leaked everywhere, feels like yesterday
I love this one!! Between River and the Angel, it's so fun to see the Doctor get so frustrated that River's and his timeline are so out of wack. Plus, I love the actor who plays Octavian (Iain Glen) ❤
This episode is great and part two is even better and you will love her arc. It is amazing.
I'm not convinced that looking at videos of Weeping Angels is a good idea, actually.
Yes, it's just Doctor Song at the moment 😅 Two Doctors!! Goodness, she intrigues me.... What a fascinating lady!
Hi Jules 🙋♂... River Song is definitely 1 of my favorite characters from the series. She's a great actress ... brings so much to each episode she appears in. I'm glad you got to see her again, and I got to see you see her again 😂😉👍
Hello Steve 🤗 always lovely to see your smiling face! I hope you are doing well 💜
@@julesreacts You ALWAYS make me smile 😉😍🤗👍
*_Hello, sweetie!_*
Welcome to the Riverlands. 😁
I think the teaser showed The Doctor aiming the pistol. Shocking! Thanks, Jules :)
2:15 when they filmed that, Alex Kingston accidentally kneed Matt Smith in his "knackers"
“I had lessons from the very best , shame you were busy that day” 😉
SO GOOD 🤣🤣
Superb reaction, excellent edit. Nice choice of scenes for a synopsis of the episode.
Oh thank you so much!
So fun fact this episode and its second half were the first episodes filmed for this series so it was the first time Matt Smith and Karen Gillan worked together on set
"Hello, sweetie" - Now, that's what you call a catchphrase! 😎
River Song is a surprise a minute!
Great episode and oh goodness with River - that's how you reintroduce a character. :)
"There's one thing you never ever put in a trap... Cheese!"
No wait, that doesn't sound right...
The beach scene was filmed at a place called Southern Down about 20 km from where I live
River Song. Pure class!! Love her!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Trivia: Filmed on the same beach as The Doctor and Rose's last meeting in "Doomsday"!!
Yes, I mention Bad Wolf Bay in the next episode!
@@julesreacts Awesome! Always looking forward to your Who videos!!!
RIVER TIME ❤
This is one of my all time favourite episodes! Ive been looking forward to this one! I like the dynamic between River and the Doctor and I'm glad you're enjoying it too 😊
Great reaction again Jules!
I love how river winds the Doctor up about the TARDIS noise if that was true he keeps leaving the breaks on then why do all TARDIS sound like that
The episode was partially inspired by Aliens. In Blink and Alien, we are seeing civilians having to deal with a horror creature(s), while in the sequel we have military, who is capable of combat, but the monsters are more numerous
the river storyline is so good. love love love her
11 Rory River and Amy... the Dream Team!
7:50 "Observing a quantum object; observing an image of a quantum object. These are the same."
Gotta love a Riversong episode!
Also as a fan of horror, I think the angels are a great addition to Doctor Who! But I do agree with you that the previous angels story was more scary.
Ooh Katie, you're more brave than me! Horror has me hiding most of the time 🤣
This is another great time when you're going into this getting surprised by things that at the time were known well in advance; the fact that the episode featured River Song and the return of the Weeping Angels, in this case.
I love this two-parter. The Weeping Angels are so creepy and the creepy episodes are my favorites.
Infodump: The "You leave your brakes on" thing was promptly retconned later as every TARDIS ever seen does the same noise. Those "dampers" only work inside the tardis. Anyone outside would still hear the worping, even with those "boring blue levers" on
They're blue boring-ers! One of my favourite lines so far 🤣
@@coladict wasn't that part of the cloaking device? That has a reason to work that way and not "you and everybody else do it wrong"
12:26 These broken Weeping Angels remind me of the Plaster Splicers from Fort Frolic in the 1st Bioshock.
Love watching you react to doctor who. Its a great feeling watching your emotions and seeing a projected version of the emotions I felt when watching these episodes for the first time. For culture reference, when series 4 was airing, the final episode Journeys End was delayed a week because Wimbledon overran. I was devastated!
River Song character arc is unique and it gets better with each series. We are Doctor POV this series.
Alex Kingston is a gift
One of my favorite 2 parters of the entire series! I love every minute! Enjoy Jules! No " spoilers" from me! 🤗😁
LOVE the doctors last line in this ep.
This was the first episode I ever watched of Doctor Who. 2011 after coming back from Europe where some people I was traveling with kept talking about it (specifically the Weeping Angels!)
I immediately fell in love with River.
I was also not expecting the cliffhanger to be at that point (although I knew it was a two parter), that last scene with the Doctor pointing the gun up and saying “there is one thing you never put in a trap” was in all the trailers so I knew it by heart at that point 😂
Awesome reaction as usual, I like your thoughts about River and can’t wait to hear more in the next reaction!
This music will ALWAYS hit so hard that it gives chills...
It's going to be great. ;)
Don’t forget this is River before we see her die in the library so that probably why she different since we last saw her. Her and The Doctors timeline are mix up here. They keep meeting in the wrong other in their timeline together and the weeping angels are back. Not them bloody things again and this time they nap necks this time. Oh god. 😂
Yup, This is a younger River
This is going to be a great episode today with the Weeping Angels
and Dr. River Song played by Alex Kingston i really enjoy her character
have a wonderful rest of the week thanks again Juliette.👋🇦🇺
Can't wait!
The unfolding story of River Song is AMAZING.
You will enjoy it.
We all Love her.
So River dies in her first ever story, so every appearance after that is in the past for her
I'm still trying to wrap my head around all this timey-wimey goodness!
And this was the two parter that hooked me into matt smith as the new doctor.
No spoilers obviously (known by Whovians as ‘The River Rule’ because ‘Sshh….spoilers’) BUT something that’s worth noting:
River first showed up while RTD was the show runner, but her library two-parter was written by Steven Moffat, he invented her.
Omg yay, been waiting all week for this one!
Wonderful reactions, once again, from Jules and her latest adventure with New Who.
SO many questions, SO many SPOILERS! :)
The Queen, River Song, is back!! 💜💜💜😍😍😍
Most of the Weeping Angels are not statue props but young women wearing masks, costumes and paint that took two to three hours to apply. Adam Smith called them "an absolute nightmare to film with" because it took a long time for them to get ready and they had to stand still for long periods of time.
In his defence it is a fantastic noise
@@julesreacts don't worry, it's only controversial for grumpy old fanboys like me. 😆
I hope you have a great weekend!
grumpy old fanboys 🤣 now I'm imagining you there, with a notepad and pen, picking apart the inconsistencies! But you do it with glee and a triumphant "HURRAH!" and a tut when you notice something hahaha
Fair to say, I think, that this is another one we've all been (patiently?) waiting for you to get to.
Hello, Jules!💜
An excellent episode, as you noticed, it gets you all wrapped up in what's happening and, before you know it - the end, for this week.😅
1:18 - With the wink of an eye. Yes! Exactly who you think it is. But, exactly who is she? A most cheeky character, however she fits into the Doctor's life. I love the banter between her and the Doctor. She definitely knows how to get under his skin.😜
"I had lessons from the very best. It's a Shame you were Busy that Day!" 🤣And she can fluster him instantly.🥰
Yes the Angels are less impacting here, than in Blink, and for the reason you state. This is a story of the Doctor, and River Song, with Angels, and a bit of a whingy, and disobedient Amy, demanding but not listening, then asking after the fact.
River is certainly an enigmatic character 🧐
6:58 Amy could have been a little forthcoming here - like, maybe, but the video has changed....
9:03 - Another moment of prediction - well done, Jules!🙌 Always on top of the plot.😉
The whole conversation with sacred Bob is fairly chilling here. But, cue the music, and the Doctor delivers the never put in a box speech...🥰
Great episode.
I don't want her to be a secret meanie 😜
It's really hard not to compare these angel episodes to Don't Blink. That episode was just so special, and I still think of Sally Sparrow to this day. I really, really loved that episode. There's a lot going on in this two-parter that focuses on many things as well as the angels, so it might not be **as** impactful for me, personally, but I still loved it! And I don't want to compare so I won't 😅
I'm SO interested to find out more about River.... Time will tell! But I am definitely a fan. In fact, I am enjoying ALL of the characters so far! Amy is lovely, and the 11th Doctor has won me over 🥰
Thank you, Tom 🤗💜 I hope you had a good day!
The image of an angel becomes itself an angel
Awesome video as always cant wait for the next one
The scenes on the planet were Matt smiths first scenes for the show
I'm finally caught up! lets goo!
River Song......Very Important Character...=))
Whenever I hear the word “spoilers “ I think of river song
Juliette observed: "OK... So they can multiply if they take over someone..." A. Yes, it's the same with cats....
HAHA!
The angels in series 3: will take you back in time
The Angels in series 5: literally just SCP-173 but can talk
Blink is almost a perfect episode. I’m not upset that the angels come back, but I do agree it takes away from the terror in the episode. I absolutely love River, and it’s fun watching you get to know her.
I love River, too!! She's SO intriguing.... And yeah, Blink was REALLY well done. I hate comparing, but I still think about that episode to this day!
Originally, the episode 'Blink' was meant to be the only Weeping Angel's episode. However, the episode received such positive reviews that the show runners decided to make the Angels a recurring Doctor Who enemy.
River Song is my favorite recurring character in the entire New Who universe.
"Hello sweetie" and "spoilers" you're going to love River's tie in with the Doctor.
