Me too. More Su-30SM action is always good for me. It's perhaps my favorite bird to watch. It's beautiful, super-maneuverable, it's a hunter with radar off and low altitudes....what's not to like. The thing is scary. Badass.
Hey Growler, I have actually got to fly an SU-30sm that was part of the Belarus Air Force. My pilot took me over Mach 2.2 and over 18,000 meters, He showed me the four corners of the flight envelope. Then demonstrated that the aircraft could do a "back-flip" (below 400 km/hr, 5,000 meters) and quickly destroy anything that was following the aircraft. I currently fly a Citation X for a private Jet charter company.

AttilaDejunk You can't do extreme maneuvers up high, and going super fast... That kinda stuff is only reserved for the lower, slower maneuvers. And YES, I am a real Aviator

How about going older missiles where it takes some more dog fighting skills, maybe even just guns. Love seeing the archer and other like missiles in action but it kind of takes away the raw dog fighting.
Probably not. If the missile is advanced enough to do that kind of loop, it's gonna have a seeker that kinda stores a picture on the IR spectrum of the target it's looking for, and the launching aircraft will likely not look at all like the target aircraft, so it won't go for it

well, its not like anything can turn with a mkIX, but if it had a fox-2 like the Super Tucano, jets wouldnt be able to go vertical against it either. We need the Super Tucano in DCS badly.
Su-30 vs F-15E would be a fair fight. If you want an F-15EX. then you'd have to pit it against either the Su-30SM2 or the Su-35S just because those Su models would be contemporary with the EX, whereas the 30SM would be lagging behind by about 20 years.
what is rarely mentioned in Su-30SM is how powerful is engines and how they tolerate disturbed airflow so well and do not even experience engine surges or reduction in thrust.

Seeing the looping missiles I realize Behind Enemy Lines (Thanks to @ivanthemadvandal8435 for correcting the name of the movie) was accurate all along (although those were SAMs chasing the protoganist's F-18). Awesome underdog moment with the Gripen made short work of the Flanker mere seconds into the merge.

I would love to challenge you and maybe push your limits but I wanna see the limits of the Su-30. Any way you could try dog fighting 2 on 1 in this plane. I'm just curious if you can do unknown bandits and kill both of them before getting killed because it is a very awesome plane. Just pushing the pilot in the box and the plane to see how far it can go.
Interesting doctrine that the Nato jets almost rely on BVR while the Russians can do both. Is this not a disadvantage for Nato jets overall? Or is Nato relying on superior stealth as an advantage over Russian jets.
No not really, NATO prefer BVR but doesn't mean they can't dogfight, the Hornet, Viper, Gripen, Rafale, Typhoon, F-22 and F-35 are all good dogfighters. With better sensors and overall tech, why wouldn't you lean hard into those advantages? Then there's better quality training and flight hours that skew in favour of the West. A high time/well drilled Indian or Malaysian Su-30 crew would do well though and underestimating those two is foolhardy.
One of the major weaknesses that Russia has demonstrated in UA has been putting together effective strike packages through some combination of lack of training, aircraft readiness rates, and overall doctrine. NATO has lots of experience running effective air strike packages with multiple types, operating for mutual support. The chance of SU30Ms merging with NATO planes would be very low (especially when the AIM 260s come out). As entertaining as these simulated 1v1 fights are, they don't represent reality.
The most amazing part about this video is 100% how the Hornet turned so well with you and almost got you if it wasn't of the archer coming back, amazing video.

I know it’s complicated; but that’s why I never got into air-to-air missile design. Be cool to look 90 degrees to your left. Lock on a foe. Fire a missile. It jumps off the rail does a 90+ degree turn and chases down that enemy. It wouldn’t be easy I understand that.

The YF-23 is *w a y* more stealthy than an F-22 and relies more on BVR, the su 30 would not even know what hit it

The biggest drawback is that they had to remove the M-61A1 multi-barrel cannon to fit the forward canards. No gun in a close in dogfight, is not good.

It deserves another fight against SAAB Gripen E. A small delta canards, very agile and skilled aircraft.

I was always wondering why they don’t make super maneuverable missiles. They can pull way more than 10g’s for days.
There are many factors at play here. The main one is the inability of the missile to destroy its own fighter upon launch, at least I think so.

they do ? The AIM9M can pull about 30Gs the R73s and AIM9Xs can pull more then 40G

I’m just wondering why there are these super maneuverable jets but don’t have missiles that can fire forward and hit things behind the jet that fired them. I know it’s complicated; but that’s why I never got into air-to-air missile design.
Be cool to look 90 degrees to your left. Lock on a foe. Fire a missile. It jumps off the rail does a 90+ degree turn and chases down that enemy. It wouldn’t be easy I understand that.
@@TeensierPythonThe Aim-9x series missles are capable of up to 90 degrees off boresight shots. They are part of the newer HOBS (High Off Boresight) class of missle. The Russian R-73 with a 30 degree off boresight capability, R-73E with 45 degree, R-74 with a 60 degree, R-74M and RVV-MD (export model) with up to 75 degree capability, are a few examples.
