My choice is the fluted bezel one. I like the size and bracelet end links design better. I'm also someone who likes having a date function and I really like date cyclops. I'm also a fan of the traditional DJ design. So, it ticks a lot of boxes for me.
Excellent comparison Gary. I do prefer the first one as I'm not a cyclops fan, which is why if I had the money I would not buy the original cyclopsy watch! Both of them are two small for me but 36mm would be way too little.
Both nice but (apart from one aspect) the SN0050 wins. Personally I dont like Roman numerals on any watch so unfortunately I'd have to pass. If they did the SN0050 with batons as per the 058 it'd be a no brainer. atb, Kev
Man, these 11.11 sales come around quickly. I've obviously been buying from A.E for some time now as I've bought quite a few watches over by the years from this particular sale. I'm loving the salmon dial . Might have to pick it up.
Very useful comparison 👍 . I would go for the same, brushing the tops of the lugs tones the case down nicely, and I prefer the lack of date and nicer crystal . The 36 has gone full homage with the bezel and cyclops 😒
You gotta up your B-rolle footage game Gary. I discover the watches at your channel but gotta find other channel to actually see good video on the watches. Also I can't for the life of me remember which is which. The aliexpress page you recorded also don't show model number. Imo the cream color dial watch was let down by the lug design imo. Sure San Martin jubilee is one of the best barcelets out there but I wouldn’t wanna lock myself out of other strap/bracelet options.
I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the price of the SW200 version (yes I know it's a good movement), but over £400 for a san martin! it's a nice watch... but not £400 nice.
The SN0050 has a beautiful dial and just the right size but I think they messed up on the case. The way the bracelet meets the case and the use of male links instead of female links is a deal breaker for me. I also wish they would bring back the proper homage style clasps on these models. Still a very beautiful piece nevertheless. I'm not entirely put off so I might still get it. Gary, do you think they might still have some of the old clasps lying around?
I also do prefer the larger watch with the roman numerals, I like the colours and I think these are roman numerals done right. But I dislike the plain high polished caseback and I think something needs to be done about the uninspired looking print above the 6.
There's just something really charming about a box sapphire crystal. I really like that SN0050 salmon dial. The blue AR tinting kills it for me though. I just can't have that.
Still looking for my ideal watch . 300m minimum waterproof, handsome, and really really accurate. Seconds per month for a mechanical watch (and vibration/magnetic proof), or seconds per year for a quartz watch.
Just can't get on board the small watch train. 6.875 in wrist and 36mm generally feels too small. Other than Rolex, homages many come with 18mm straps. 38mm with 20 mm strap is the sweet spot for me for dress watches.
Time for San Martin to update their clasps. If they can spit out 500 different watch models per year and most of them being copies of you-know-who, then surely they can make or even copy a good clasp with toolless micro adjust...
I think i would still go for the DJ homage, i think its a neater set of dimensions. I wonder if they will do an OP homage thats a dateless SN058 with a smooth bezel and with out the "5 link" bracelet.
36mm one - but I'd have it with the enamel green dial. I'd like it even better, I think, if it didn't have that fluted bezel. Never been a huge fan of that particular detail. I'd also prefer a brushed top-/polished flanks-finish on this one. The more I look at SM watches, the more I find that they almost always get one or two details wrong (for me). I wish they had a configuration-tool, allowing us to spec our own watches. They have all the "ingredients" to make my perfect Sub-homage for example - they just don't use all of them on any single watch they sell. Which is quite odd, given the fact how many different Sub-homages they currently produce.
Hey i really appreciate and admire your page . I have a question is there. San martin or other homage brand you can recommend for a mixed gold and silver date just flutted look? Please help
If you're going for a homage then the SN058 is closer to the original although the fully polished case isn't. The female end links on the 058 give a better fit on the wrist and personally I prefer the fluted bezel to the plain one. Nice to see both have the larger clasp with 4 holes of adjustment. Obviously the SN0050 is homaging the later 41mm original in case profile. My choice would be the SN058 with a champagne dial and the PT5000 or the SW200 if pennies allowed. Usual excellent and informative video Gary, keep them coming. 👍⌚😎
Spearman! This is too blingy for throwing Spears, but you might blind your opponent with the bling - a handy tactic! :) Nice pieces, but not for me. I want to see them make the Vintage Explorer but with the date in between 3 and 4 oclock, with a round small cutout.
sm and their love of closed case backs. I've never met a collector who likes closed case backs. I refuse to pay this price point and get a closed case back. May they sober up soon !
I am convinced by neither. I used to be impressed by SM's build quality and good price, but now I simply don't understand their philosophy. They'd rather generate possibly dozens of new releases per year, most of them copied designs, details mostly not thought through. Yes, they do so in good build quality, but their watches scream of "no love put into this one". Also, now that the prices have grown... I can't quite get over ghost positions in ca 300$ watch. I know it's still not too expensive, but is it really impossible to put some care into your product? Perhaps not, if your business model is flooding the market with countless copied designs. That being said, they still have some interesting pieces, just (IMO) not these two in particular.
The Dimensions of both are in the video description!
050 looks more classic less bling looking
My choice is the fluted bezel one. I like the size and bracelet end links design better. I'm also someone who likes having a date function and I really like date cyclops. I'm also a fan of the traditional DJ design. So, it ticks a lot of boxes for me.
Ace show Gary. I quite like the one with the Roman numerals. Looks great with the lume.
I would definitely go for the sn050 but I would prefer if it was the same size as the other
I could easily buy & wear both Gary! Terrific again by San Martin. Prices pushing up though…
hello from New Mexico USA. SN058 green dial is the one.
I like them both but not sure if I'd buy either of them 🤔
Recently got the SN0050G in sunray blue dial (11.11 sale discounted price of $170). Beautiful watch! I prefer it over the other fluted bezel SN058.
Excited for the grand seiko vid.
And as always fantastic content 👏
Excellent comparison Gary. I do prefer the first one as I'm not a cyclops fan, which is why if I had the money I would not buy the original cyclopsy watch! Both of them are two small for me but 36mm would be way too little.
SN058 will be my pick, I need a date on my watches. That cyclop also help with my aging eyes 👀
Lucky for winning scammer like you? Go away..
Still waiting for a two-tone 36mm Datejust homage from San Martin! It would be an immediate buy; or a full gold!
Great size, not keen on a cyclops or the fluted bezel but love that copper dial
Both nice but (apart from one aspect) the SN0050 wins. Personally I dont like Roman numerals on any watch so unfortunately I'd have to pass. If they did the SN0050 with batons as per the 058 it'd be a no brainer. atb, Kev
They should do the SN058 with smooth bezel and no cyclops.
Man, these 11.11 sales come around quickly. I've obviously been buying from A.E for some time now as I've bought quite a few watches over by the years from this particular sale.
I'm loving the salmon dial . Might have to pick it up.
A little small for my tastes, but they are good looking watches nonetheless.
Man, I want the SN050 dial in the 058 case. I guess I'm too picky.
Have to agree with Robin Hood, cheers G
Very useful comparison 👍 . I would go for the same, brushing the tops of the lugs tones the case down nicely, and I prefer the lack of date and nicer crystal . The 36 has gone full homage with the bezel and cyclops 😒
The 050 is San Martin's best original design by a significant margin.
Loved your video presentation absolutely !!! Subscribed
Awesome….thanks

great looking watches, but a bit to small for me.
I like the PT5000 the one I have is very accurate +. 1-2 secs / day
The 58 for me, it's the numerals on the other that are putting me off, they just don't look right on the watch
The SN0050 has a beautiful dial and just the right size but I think they messed up on the case. Isn't the SN050 just a SM020 with different dial and bracelet and caseback? Case, crystal and bezel seem to be identical.
I personally love the green one.😍😘
There's just something really charming about a box sapphire crystal. I really like that SN0050 salmon dial. The blue AR tinting kills it for me though. I just can't have that.
Salmon dial is a winner for me.
Awesome video. 👌

I've always liked salmon dials.
Of the two,i prefer the more homagey homage.....mostly because i am not a big fan of roman numerals, but they are both very nice.
they should make the 36.5 mm watch with a smooth bezel, and maybe remove the cyclops
Just can't get on board the small watch train. 6.875 in wrist and 36mm generally feels too small. Other than Rolex, homages many come with 18mm straps. 38mm with 20 mm strap is the sweet spot for me for dress watches.

How do they keep releasing new watches so frequently?

Thought yn55 movement was an ORIANT watch in-house movement
36mm one - but I'd have it with the enamel green dial. I'd like it even better, I think, if it didn't have that fluted bezel. Never been a huge fan of that particular detail. I'd also prefer a brushed top-/polished flanks-finish on this one.

Parnis make nice date just homages…
Does the datejust have blue or clear ar coating?

i just checked rolex site...the current iteration of the DJ is an all polished case
Spearman! This is too blingy for throwing Spears, but you might blind your opponent with the bling - a handy tactic! :)
Nice pieces, but not for me. I want to see them make the Vintage Explorer but with the date in between 3 and 4 oclock, with a round small cutout.
Just me? Or there is no audio for this vid
SN058 BEZEL PLATNUM NICKLE COPPER PLATED or polished STAINLESS STEEL ?? Do not like the Cronos Datejust plated bezel .
sm and their love of closed case backs. I've never met a collector who likes closed case backs. I refuse to pay this price point and get a closed case back. May they sober up soon !

👍
I'm just about done with San Martin. I know they send you free watches but good grief
Im sure its lovely but I just cant stand roman numerals
i hate that they put depth rating on EVERY WATCH, it looks so dumb on a nondiver.
Rolex lookalike
Roman numerals.....meh. Shiny fluted bezels........meh. But they are really well made.
Other than something like a Cartier Panthere or Tank....I cannot do roman numerals on a watch......sorry but no thanks on the SN0050
The only time I use Roman numerals is when I do my taxes.
First
36? who wants their gals stealing their watch?
