Get some silicone earplugs. They do remove your instinct to hear danger though
I worked for one of the many companies as a live in carer in people's home and saved nearly 40k in under 1.5 years. I can't blame u jacking it it. My council fees are 160pm

Hi mate, I've been a van lifer for just over a year. The wind is the worst thing, it annoys the fcuk out of me 🤣 Just look forward to the spring, least your starting in the deep end in winter. Things will only get better you got more freedom and less financial stress now 👌 best thing i ever did that's for sure

Haha the silicone ones on amazon work a treat. I don't know if you have one but check out Alpicool fridges, newish thing on the market, they work like a proper fridge, energy efficient too. Remember you saying your beer wasn't cold enough the other night 😂
I LOVE Bad weather myself. Especially high winds and driving rain. The sound of heavy rain lashing against a window or the whistling of the wind. I can never get enough of it. Sadly it doesn't happen much where I live. ~_~
I sleep to the noise of blizzards every night since starting, not too loud but not too low either, i love it but i have tinnitus (made worse by those experimental jabs) and the particular noises of nature (no words or music) Seems to really help put tinnitus onto the same white noise area as the blizzard audio.. if you look around TH-cam you may well find audio which helps you sleep. Many are made with a a black screen which uses less energy on phones and tablets, and play for hours (up to 10).. wind sounds, running water, oceans, rain in a tent, forest sounds etc etc etc... Audio which helps you sleep can blot out some of the noises that you don't like from outside where you are as well.. plus ear plugs!!👍
You don.t wanna come to west of Ireland then .The wind along our west coast can at times .b alarming .but i really n.joi a good storm when i.m tucked up .
hey up James. Been watching your videos for a couple of weeks now and felt the need to comment on this one as it hit a few chords for me. 1. im from Wakey, 2. I now live in Australia, 3. I live in a van. Some of the best advice I was given regarding a place to sleep is to find quiet streets (residential or otherwise) and only use them for sleeping, ie. pull up, go to sleep, wake up and move some where else to have breakfast, do chores etc. and rotate places so you only visit a spot once every couple of weeks. And in regards to your Aussie comment, dont believe those other y'tube channels, it's not all picturesque scenery etc. For me right now, im sweating my tits off in 35degrees, 70+% humidity (with no aircon ), in an industrial estate... A bigger van and more routines would make your life a lot easier (in my humble opinion) Keep it real mate, and best of luck, it will only get easier...

Some nights will be tough but it can always be worse. I Sleept by the sea in Portugal in a box truck and at 3.00 in the night i tought it was going to tip in the wind so just drove to a calmer place. I have heard gunshoots outside my van, drunk people and party. Animals. Sound like someone is breaking in. But it gets easier. If a had a bad night i go to a senic place and just rest up. You will find your spots just stay where you feel relaxed

That shot at 15:27 reminded me of the time when my step-mother reversed out of her Asda parking spot SO HARD that when she hit the shopping trolley bay just like that one , she wrote off the car. She was absolutely incensed by the fact that Asda had not "thought out " their car park planning more thoroughly and placed the bay somewhere else ! She still won't accept any responsibility for the accident to this day even though she was lucky not to have flattened some poor pedestrian. I'm still crying with laughter to this day 🙂......
Sad in this day and age we have folks having to live in vans. Best of luck to ya.

Its early days you just need to get into a routine. Ask the established Van lifer's advice . Think of the money you are going to save and spend on your children. I do admire you. You’ll be all rite.. You need to find a less exposed place to park in when it’s “blowing a gale” outside and you’ll get a much better nights sleep. Give your self a break and remember that it’s a massive change that you’ve undertaken and it’ll be a good few weeks before you fully adjust to your new environment. Good luck to you chap 😊

I feel your pain , I do crappy shifts where one week I’m up at 5am and the next week I don’t get in till 1:30am , live on 5-6 hrs sleep max. I think your right though, most stealth campers seem to be the same as wild campers in tents , bed early, up at dawns crack .

After a while you will know were to park were the sun comes through the window in the morning . The sunshine always puts me in a good mood .It’s hard at first but you learn the good spots and places to avoid. When your loaded with that information it’s gets easier my freind

@@bythecurb you will, like you say try get sleep earlier 🙈 also was talking to someone today who’s just gone and bought a motorhome to live in and he’s using an app called too good to go and he’s getting his tea for around £2/3 a night! He got a carvery for £2.90 other night he said it was huge so maybe have a look at that to save where you can and more to save for a bigger van for you & your Bet (still laugh at you calling her that) when you have outings 😉

Its a tough life living in a van - i wonder if you could find some security posts looking after commercial buildings. It might provide a warm overnight place and some money. Security for commercial buildings is a growing business because of squatters. Anyway good luck!

im a part time van lifer, my rented house is full of good and not so good clutter, i start staying in van when it's spring,wish id got it insulated,sound proofed and a diesel heater,just use terracotta plant pot heaters,one of the main reasons why i sleep in my van is to get away from piss taking noisy neighbours slamming doors at all hours, ive had to move 18 times in 56 years,which is way above average for most,im gradually getting rid of stuff in the house and saving up for a more suitable campervan that i can spend 90% of my life in,atb 😁👍
Good luck with your journey. Before I turned to vanlife I started trying to live a minimalistic life and I found that clearing the clutter from my house really helped my anxiety

You should try the red beck motel car park cafe open all night in Crofton
Go down Lock Lane in Altofts to the canal for an overnight stop. If you go over the bridge and under m62 right to the end there’s another quiet parking spot between the river and canal.

Diesel heater is a must if your living in a van full time, sleeping in a van in winter is akin to sleeping in your fridge, diesel heaters use minimal fuel and battery and are a game changer. Subbed 👍🏻🇬🇧
Grumpy bear! ;-) Watched the vid in two parts. Yeah, sleep is crucial, and it's a bit chancy in a vehicle. Van life is like farm life: go to bed when it gets dark and get up at dawn so you can move the van (if necessary). I will keep watching and encouraging you. Cheers, mate.

Those fish and chips look stellar! Tip: ALWAYS HEAD YOUR VAN INTO THE WIND. Never park the van broadside to a heavy wind; that's scarier than sh*t.

It's totally understandable being a but grumpy after a poor night's sleep. You'll figure it out. I can't sleep at home in my own bed at home when it's windy out. I've subscribed as I'm in West Yorkshire too and I've followed van life videos online for years. Very entertaining video - showing the ups and downs

That and the sound of waves lapping up the shore, people buy CDs of things like that to fall asleep to !

It’s a sad state of affairs when a working man has to resort to living in his van because the cost of everything in this country is out of control. I’m married with kids but would certainly go down the same route as you if I was single, I’m sick and tired of being squeezed for every penny and long for a simpler life. My wife wouldn’t live in a van but we’ve discussed and are keen on getting ourselves a narrow boat and taking to boat life as a way of getting off the hamster wheel, the kids will have left school in a few years so that’s when we’re thinking of making the jump.

Hey mate! Cracking vids! I’ve lived in a tiny Ford transit connect for a year now around Sheffield, Barnsley and the Peak District. It’s hard work at time’s especially in winter but overall it’s been worth it. The zombie feeling is normal I feel the small space doesn’t help. I find getting dressed making a brew and having a short walk helps break out of that a bit. Good luck on your venture mate!

Looks very nice where you parked up, bit of a posh area near the secret park. I've got an old ex-post office van, being red i feel a bit conspicuous , especially since I've had a little campervan window put on the sliding door, but hey, I've paid my road tax!

i was homeless a couple of years ago but with some back up money in the bank and i thought i would just have a few weeks off all the stress and working and it was the free est i have ever felt... one tip , if keep an eye on websites like hotelsforless and things like that you can get some really good deals like 10 days for £180, you can have 4 weeks of roughing it then a week in a hotel and the money your saving on rent and poll tax will mean your quids in.

I was living in a camper when lock down was on. Very stressful! I had many people come out wondering who I was! I had 1 bloke looking at me with binoculars thinking I couldn't see him looking at me lol. My advice would be just stay 1 night anywhere because people get suspicious if you stay more than 1 night. I was glad I finally sold my camper and brought a narrow boat to live on. It tests you in ways you wouldn't believe. The pigeons were the bain of my life. Used to do my head in, like you and the wind! And I get you with the wind. And the rain is another issue when you're trying to sleep! My nights consisted of 4-6 hour's sleep a night. So get used to being tired. All the best. It definitely builds your strength of character!

You’re doing very well as I’m sure it’s a massive adjustment. My local Asda, I’ve seen quite a few vans tucked away in that car park in the early hours. That spot where you parked up looks perfect, maybe I’ll scope it out for my first night in the van.

Do'nt know if tha uses that Asda a lot, but just behind it there's a wildlife lake ( Pugneys). Used to go regular, in the late 80/90's, then call in at t'Asda for a Balti pie and some cider. Fond memories. First time i've come across ya, just now. Ya really do look like ya been at it for yonks.

I live a couple of miles from the village you are in and can see our friend's house on your video. I think you'll be very safe in the village and I've seen plenty of vans parked where you are. We use the park regularly with the kids.
