In the 9th form, Tsukikage, the opponent standing to your right front diagonal attempts to cut down from a high stance. You quickly rise and strike the opponent's right forearm, then immediately follow with a downward cut from the front before they fall.
In this technique, it is essential to make sure you cut the opponent's right forearm accurately. To achieve this, maintaining a low posture while drawing and cutting is crucial.
The key point is to keep your posture low while executing the cut. As you cut the opponent’s right forearm, you slightly twist your waist in the opposite direction of the movement of your right hand to ensure the cut is effective.
In the alternate version of Tsukikage, after you cut into the opponent, the sword may penetrate deeply into the opponent's body. In this case, you must pull the sword out and proceed to perform chiburi (the blood-cleaning motion). This technique serves as a way to understand how the sword might penetrate deeply or shallowly into the opponent’s body depending on the circumstances, rather than being a strict alternate version of the kata.
