Haven't even watched this yet but absolutely loving this series. Discovering all kinds of great C64 games that I never even knew about back in the day.
You like your shout out at the end patsfan 4life? I thank you because you requesting this has made me see that i have missed quite a lot of software houses in the original series
One time only, I got to an ending where the hired gun doesn't shoot you. Don't remember how the entire conversation went, but he then said, "What, you don't know who I am?" My reply line was, "No, and I don't care. Have a nice day!" To my astonishment, his last line was, "Well well well... Thanks, Sheriff."
Great video. I was missing my favorite Accolade game, though; Ace of Aces. Flying the Mosquito on different missions. That game was the main reason I started flying the Mosquito in DCS World.
Played Beach Head a lot when I was young, then I remember my Dad buying Power at Sea and I barely touched Beach Head after that. I remember being disappointed that when you land troops you just get a cutscene, but the rest of the game made up for that. Lots of fond memories there.
I remember both Beach-Head 1 and 2. If you can believe it, I never even heard about Power At Sea until just now. Guess I’ll have to fire up the old emulator and make some new memories!
I remember GPC very fondly, on both PC and C=64. Of course computer racing games have evolved immensely since then, but some memories stay forever. As a matter of fact, I even remember Car & Driver Magazine reviewing a bunch of PC racing titles and giving GPC a high grade.
I remember drooling over the magazine ads for Test Drive, Law of the west, Hardball etc. I had a Atari at the time and seeing the C64 ads I just had to have one! Played a good few on this list, some great memories. I knew The Train would be at the top spot! Nice one :)
I had the literal board game version of Stratego. I missed out never havin the C64 Version, which I didn't know existed to this day... Apollo 18, I did have, & holy hell it was hard... it took me literal years for me to ever manage to beat it even ONE TIME... then I never did manage it again...
Mini-Putt and Leaderboard were by far my favorite Golf games even to this era - Mario Golf Advance is up there as well, but something as simple yet challenging and unique as Mini-Putt is a real gem. One of my Top 10 favorite games on the system as a whole, at least when playing with friends.
PSI-5 Trading Company is one of my favorite C64 games ever. Takes a bit of time to learn, though, one of the keys of succeeding in the game is learning to prioritize things correctly, especially in Engineering. Law of the West was hilarious, also a very unique game. I think I also had Hardball but didn't play it much since I didn't understand anything about American Baseball.
I played 4th and Inches more than just about any C64 game....except maybe GBA Basketball and Project: Space Station. I played the hell out of Hardball! as well...great game.
It’s amazing that the graphs and frame rate in Train and Grand Prix Circuit rocks on C64, compared to 16-bit PCs of that era. Smashing vid, once again!
Most of Accolade's sports games were head and shoulders above the rest and the only exceptions I can think of are the SportTime games...Hockey and horse racing if I remember right :) 💯🙏
There's one game I'm trying to find that I used to enjoy as a kid I can't remember it's name...but you were on a space station you looked down on your character who wore a red jump suit..and you would talk to various characters and aliens and you could attack them and you would see the cloud of smoke while scrapping and there was various creatures in the corridors that looked like a big ball..it was definitely like an RPG.
Wow. Synchronicity. I just found Accolade's Mini Putt a mere day ago. Fantastic c64 game. We spent a lot of time playing Hardball II and Ace of Aces which I am a bit surprised that I didn't see. As a flight game I found that the cockpit and bombing variations kept it fresh and the gameplay itself was addictive (and good controls). I didn't feel that way again about a flying game until Wings on the A500, which in my opinion is one of the most stellar examples of an all around perfect game (controls, story, graphics, replay value). Ahhh Cinemaware... If you haven't done a Cinemaware video yet... *wink wink*
They did far less on the zx spectrum but with the exception of Grand Prix Circuit they pretty much nailed it there too (I really liked Test Drive II on the 128) but yeah. The c64 is where they shone Hardball was the one which I spnt an obscene amount of time on

Wow, I missed the cockpit view racers back in the day, I would have been totally enthralled by those. That space sim looks a bold, intelligent game as well.
Was a huge fan of The Train as well. Very unique simulation imo. Accolade was really solid and really shows a lot of genre range if you stop to look at the list of games they put out. They pushed that machine to the limits in terms of graphics and depth of play.

Bubble Ghost is actually a pretty good game on the Atari ST because you can use the mouse to control the ghost. The controls in the C64 version leave a lot to be desired however
I did not play 4th and Inches in the 80s when I had my c64 as a youngster. I played it a few weeks ago for the first time and really liked it. Wow. A few gems in there. I used to play Hard Ball for hours on end. Still got an original copy of Killed Until dead on cassette, might go fire it up 😁👍
Stratego - I never played the C64 version, but I played the Amiga version once. After getting over my disappointment with the graphics, which looked nothing like the beautiful screenshots of the VGA version, I read the rules, set up the board, started a game against the computer and promptly quit when it became obvious that the computer was cheating. I had set up traps, but the computer avoided every single one of them and made a beeline straight for my flag. I loved The Train and Apollo 18, also Ace of Aces. Never cared for the Jack Nicklaus golf games, mostly because of the graphics. I much preferred Leaderboard's cleaner visual style.
"Test Drive II" was the only one of those that we had. Most of the rest of the games in our collection were MicroProse (which kicked massive amounts of ass on the C-64/128), a lot of the Infocom game library, a few by Electronic Arts (back before they became a bunch of a-holes) and a lot of cheap-arsed bargain bin indy type games.
I loved grand prix circuit back in the day, I played it a lot till the arrive of f1 gran prix from the great geoff crammond. As a kid I considered accolade games stuff for grown ups mostly, anyway I see that time hasn't been much gentle with them.
rack em is a nightmare until you realise that to hit the ball straight you need to press the button when the cue is as close to the cue ball as possible ....
Ahhhhh Sam Fox poker and them pixelated boobies they was the days haha. Few games on this list i was not a fan of but many i was bubble ghost, mini putt and ofc The Train. @@fearlessjoebanzai so i would say that the keyboard is essential for c64 amiga etc especially c64 as most games require a keyboard key to be pressed to exit the cracktros etc.

Nr. 1: Grand Prix Circuit. Nr. 1b: Test Drive. Played both forever. Would have loved to get my hands on TD2 The Duel! Never played it much, but The Cycles is GPC on motorcycles, also very good. Why is it not in the top 20? Bubble Ghost is a really nice game, was even ported to Game Boy. Jack Nicklaus has the same slow build up of the grapics. But it looks ugly! I mean, look at 1:40. And it's from 1989! I liked Leaderboard, but JL may be worth a try, nontheless. I think i played Law of the West, but not very often. Don't know why. It's one of not too many wild west games on C64. Should give it another try! Fast Break: every soccer/basketball/ice hockey/tennis/volleyball game is worth a try, i think. Accolade Comics has an interesting look and concept. The Train seems to be very intresting! And Killed until dead too. I like detective/gangster games, although i'm not into adventures.
Could you actually ‘play’ microleague baseball? I had that on my Apple2 and was only a simulation of being a coach? Could of been me being a kid. But can you play; hit, pitch, run etc. ?
Dang, honestly makes me sad that the only thing Accolade will ever be known for these days is Bubsy. Not even Star Control is that well known compared to the annoying bobcat. They have these many great games yet the bobcat managed to put them all into dead obscurity. Like, seriously, Michael Berlyn should've known that they were dealing with PROS & that he wasn't one.
Love the list. I don't play sim games, but it's a quality education to learn what was possible from those who do. And some, like your number one pick, speak for themselves. With that said, and keeping in mind this is coming from a Yank who actually does know how football is played....I don't get the placement of 4th and inches. At all. "Sort of enjoy it"? Is this your list or your audience's? You didn't offer a single reason why it ranked higher than Law of the West, for example. And that slow motion action doesn't look inviting. I had to do some independent research to find out why anyone liked it at all.
I understand that you have to get the ball over the line, its kind of like rugby although we arent allowed to throw it forward. I do understand the principles of the game just not all the tactics and plays. I can win games in 4th n inches. The reason its higher than law of the west is although i loved it back in the day, once youve played it a few times youve seen it all...with 4th n inches no 2 games are the same as with most sports games making the longevity of the game better
Objectively Accolade didn't make a single really bad game, but subjectively most didn't appeal to me. Test Drive I & II are awesome, and Law of the west is lots of fun, but is just multiple choice and has a terrible replay value (eg compare Activision's incredible Alter Ego). Mini-Putt is fun too, but not better than comparable minigolf games (eg by Capcom or Magic Bytes). Psi 5, Killed until dead, The rain and to a lesser degree Stratego and Card Sharks are also nice, but also no Ubergame and the rest just didn't appeal to me. Nothing wrong with the games, just not my cup of tea. Microprose, Epyx, Synapse, Broderbund, EA, Sirius, SSI or Hewson's games just had more appeal to me. Eg EA's Archon blows Stratego just out of the water (given that's not Accolade's fault, as the port of the boardgame is pretty good, and the only one I'm aware of, on any system).
Haven't even watched this yet but absolutely loving this series. Discovering all kinds of great C64 games that I never even knew about back in the day.
Law of The West was so creative, innovative and above all, hilarious and engaging & so easy to pick up & just play

Bubble Ghost is a great game!!
Could you actually ‘play’ microleague baseball? I had that on my Apple2 and was only a simulation of being a coach? Could of been me being a kid. But can you play; hit, pitch, run etc. ?
Nah thats the game mate its not an action game , but its a great game. For action lovers hardball is better
Cool games 👍
3:31 made me sea sick (blergh!)
Accolade certainly had the best graphics overall.
Hey OSG . What do you run these games on?
I have a real c64 but mostly i run them on vice on my laptop
@@oldstylegaming I'm looking to emulate systems on a pi400 I just purchased
The Cycles and Ace of Aces weren't from accolade?
They should make a well... remake of Psi-5 for PC.
Eg EA's Archon blows Stratego just out of the water (given that's not Accolade's fault, as the port of the boardgame is pretty good, and the only one I'm aware of, on any system).
the game boy bubble ghost was best
Ok 8
