Thanks Phil! Yes the garden is a nice size, the camera does make it look a fair bit bigger than it is though! Hope your pond build goes well mate :) now I’ve got the grow on tank up and running I’ve bought myself a bit more time to make sure I think my plans through, so I’m not sure if it’ll be this year or next before I make a proper start 👍🏻
I keep on changing my mind!! lol The original reason I didn't want it there was because it felt too far away from the house, and I really want to be able to see into the pond from inside.. but where I was thinking of putting it, just by the patio, seems to be right in the middle of the garden... TBH I might just make it the size of the whole garden, and just be done with it !! lol
My ponds 1000 gallon I built mine without doing research. So things I'd do differently if i had chance is build it as big as you can you'll always wish you went bigger as youll always want more koi. Put a bottom drain in saves getting the hoover out every month and I'd would of built a skimmer in to the pond I'm constantly netting it as we have trees at the back of us and decant filteration That's just what I'd do differently. I like your idea of windows that cover all seating areas 👍
Thanks for that Scott, all sounds like great advice so I’m definitely going to be incorporating this into my plans 👍🏻 I’m not 100% sure on how big it’s going to be yet, but that will be a big factor to consider when I decide where it’s going. Hope your pond is doing ok 👍🏻😊
i think it’ll look nice where your thinking of putting it , just bare in mind where all the filtration has got to go…because of the position it would look out of place with a shed because it’s obvious it’s the filter house for the pond , maybes a storage container to house it ?
Thanks Andrew 😊yes, this is causing me some real head scratching at the moment! I’m thinking that a shed won’t work so perhaps I might have to sink it into the ground a bit and try and integrate the housing into the design some how... another option it to have the pipe work go under the paving and I could get big storage container as you mention and pop it under the kitchen window maybe. Would have to find somewhere else for the grow on tank but that’s no big deal 👍🏻👍🏻
@@chazkoi i get where your coming from 😂i’m in the middle of building a new pond , causes some stress but you’ll get there in the end. Pondkeeping just snowballs, we started off with a water feature then a small pond and now we are building an even bigger one 😂😂one very useful tip i’ve found is to ask around and ask your local koi dealers for any advice 🙂
How big do you want to go where do you want to locate the filters and would the filters go in a shed preferably not to far from the pond all things you have to think about the further away ur filters the more the pumps will have to work so there for more expensive to run also what filtration are u considering I would go nexus also you can buy ready made ponds with windows from ez or Denby or would you go block work or sleeper cwd make pond kits from sleeper salt reasonable prices I have my 2500 gallon fibreglass pond on order from Denby ponds but it is a 12- 14 week lead time and they do need a concrete base where as a sleeper pond you can get away with just a concrete collar under the sleepers look forward to seeing more content and if you need any help or advice I can always try help where I can I have kept koi now for 12 years
Hey Chris, thanks for your comment! I’m still pondering all of these points tbh.. I think as you suggest, I need to work out my filtration first and work back from there… I don’t want a shed for my filtration, my preference is to get something more compact than a nexus, they’re huge!! Ideally I want something that is as easy to clean as a nexus, but takes up the space of a multi-bay, that way I can site it alongside the pond, and have it partially below ground and covered. Plenty more head scratching to be done!
Thanks mate! I’ve found this video really used as it’s really made me reflect on what I’ve been planning on doing with the build… I suspect I’m going to change my mind a few times before I finally break ground! 😆 hope you’re still making good progress with tour grow on!

Thanks for your feedback! I’m definitely going to go as big as I can from the outset, and the filter situation also still needs a lot of thought …
