I used to have a 12 gallons tank, thanks for the tips given. Going to get myself some corydoras to the tank. Thanks for sharing your experience & bravo to you.
I have a 29 gallon (Neon Tetra) primary tank with some Cory's and a few Nerite snails. I have been thinking of other mates to compliment the tetra's and you have given some great ideas. Keep up the good work!
Looking to start my first aquarium, fell in love with Tetras at a pet store so 100% going to start with them! Would love to maybe add cherry shrimp to the setup.
I have a fully planted 10 gal tank with Neon Tetras, Harlequin Rasboras, and three Pasnda cory cats. It's the most peaceful and great looking looking combo you would ever want in a smaller tank.
Your a great guy subbed!! I have nothing against any of these choices I have a massive 250 gallon south American biotope not all the species I have are necessarily from the Amazon but here's a list of the things I have I don't recommend any of these with your neons if your a beginner. TO have this you need to have a massive aquarium with many different territories and surrounding for different fish and different breeding pairs anyways. The list: Neon tetras Rummynose tetras Hariquin rasboras Guppies Discus A breeding pairs of brislenoses A breeding pair of apistogroamas A breeding pair of rams Pigmy corys Black Venezuelan corys Cherry shrimp A clown pleco And I think that's it just some ideas!
I've bread some half red half blue neocarodina shrimp to compliment my neons. Everyone loves how they match ❤💙 also have some snails and guppies. I like how the guppies stay towards the top half and neons towards the bottom half with the shrimp on substrate level. Gives cool layers of interest.
In my four foot ive got like 2 dozen neons with a pair of apistos, over half a dozen albino corys, and a few albino bristlenose. And all the fish have successfully community bred in there besides the apistos and neons :)
Hey man love the vids I recently got 8 black skirts for my big 66 gal community tank, so now is home to 9 kuhlis, 28 green neons and a bristlenose. Been watching your vids to create the perfect community and I think I’ve finally done it. Keep up the good work!
@@PULAG no they actually didn't unfortunately a lot of my neons ended up dying off but the bunch of black skirts I still have (4) are relatively shy and only chase each other occasionally
@@finb9073 possibly. Thought all my plants and wood pieces would've protected them enough.. ah well this turned me off of neons though. Prob won't ever have them again.
I have a red ear turtle and map turtle with a tetra. Tetra came with the 75g tank I bought off of someone. All I can say is that the Tetra is one hell of a survivor, the turtles doesn't even bother to chase it anymore since it's so fast. Surprisingly it sometimes even goes near the turtles without fear. Currently in the process of adding 5 more so it can school with it's kind.
Ye man I've gone tetra mad the last year or two, mixed it up with Cory's, some dwarf gouramis, platys, swordtails & believe it or not 2 redtail sharks ha ha, they get on ( like an old married couple), but ye for me tetras are just lovely, peaceful & lowish maintenance 👌
I’ve been able to keep neon tetras with gold mollies and 1 rainbow shark with no problems which is really cool but I do want to add more fish so this has been helpful
Hi KFS, another great informative video. Other fish I've had with neon tetra are betta fish, dwarf honey gourami, german blue rams, bolivan rams and apistogramma varieties of fish. All of these are soft water fish and so are all environmentally compatible with each other. Just some suggestions, I know these combinations work as I've had them in my community tank.
My neon tetras get along with many other fish, but in my tank , their best friends are the guppies. They form a small school while my trio of guppies make an excellent show with their fins. The 2 often compete in foods so i make sure they all get their fair share. My pygmy corys sometimes join them too but they would normally stay away from all the commotions.
This video is kinda perfect for me, I’ve had several kinds of fish before and out of all the ones I’ve had my neon tetras always survived the longest, so lately I’ve been getting other types of tetras to be with them. So far I’ve been sticking with tetras, I have a couple skirt tetras, and along skirt tetras. Recently I got a baby long skirt tetra from pet smart and it’s so much fun to watch him lol
Actually I tell a lie. I came back to Los Angeles and was so happy to be home I stayed. I got a job selling pet supplies all over the the So. California area. Yet I still miss England from time to time.
I have a 130 litre tank and I keep albino black widows with my tetras and they work really well I'm planning on adding a dwarf gourami and some angle fish is this a good Idea
One my recommendation for fish tank - keep such fish who will share space in tank - like my Betta was king of the top of my aquarium and time after time he went swim to middle of tank but my tetras mostly was living in bottom or middle - so they had a lot of space from each other.
I’m not so big on the fish soup tanks. That’s fish from all over the world in the one tank. I like more the bio type aquarium. Good tank mates for the neon tetra is as you said other South American tetras. Small South American cichlids. Corys. Bristle nose plecos.
I thought I left cyberpunk on and had to pause the video to see where the music was coming from. Thought I was heading into a fish store run by maelstrom
I have a 5 gallon tank full of neocardinia shrimp (I have about 7), Batman nirites (3), Ishimaki thorn nerites (1), King Koopa nirites (3), rabbit snails (3), African dwarf frogs (2), marbled turtle freshwater limpets (1), and Mexican dwarf crayfish (1) and I just purchased two neon tetras to add to the tank since they were on sale for a $1.50 at my local PetSmart. I plan to add a couple chili rasbora to the tank at a later date, so far the neons are getting along with everyone else in the tank.
thank for the video.. instead on Neons, i just bought cardinals. does the same go for the cardinals.. and also can i keep shrimps with them, and all the other fish you mentioned here
I'm surprised you didn't mention the ramshorn snails that was in all of the neon tetras videos :-D I have a mellow betta on his own black water tank they have the same parameters but I was doubting about my betta because he might act territorial when I try to house my tetras with him, also as for male bettas they might look chill and mellow when they are alone but as experience they are tend to unleash their fighting instinct when started to have them in a community tank.
I have a 40 gallon that will be primarly neon tetra but i wanted a few other fish in to be centerpiece fish..i thought angels but i heard that was bad once they are bigger. 1 pearl guarami was an option..another option was a few columbian tetras. What do you think would be a good choice?
In my 200 l aquarium I had about 7x neon tetras, 7x rummy-nose tetras, 2x Corydoras ( I saw them rare because I had a lot of caves where they can hide and a lot of plants), 1x Bristlenose (but he died few days after he become my tank mate), 1x Blue color Betta fish (yeah - time after time Betta been trying to chase tetras but he was to slow so he did not harm anyone in my tank), and I had a lot of shrimps.
i kept a betta fish with 10 neon tetras in a 10 gallon, everything seems fine its been 1 year no fish is being aggressive. just add enough hiding spots to make sure.
I have a 40 gallon with 3 black kuli loaches, 6 scissor tail raspora, 6 Harlequin Rasbora, 6 Neon tetra, 1 Golden Algea eater. Want to add 6 Cardinal Tetra and 6 Chili Raspora. Sound good? Too much? Looking for pro opinion. My water levels are all good, bout 7.2 ph, now using RO water, no more tap water. I ordered 2 Java Ferns, every other plant I have now is plastic.
Why not go with carnal tetras? They are so much more colorful than neon's A little more expensive but so much more colorful. A hundred canals shoaling back and forth looks stupendous! I once owned a tropical fish store in Liverpool, England. My wife left me, but I still had my fish tank. It was only a four foot tank, but I was happy. If your plants are growing well, chances are your fish are doing well. Plus the fact you can sometimes sale extra plants back to your fish shop. I loved the plants and sometimes better than fish. I hate plastic plants. Keep up the good work!
I am thinking of getting some tetras and maybe 2 guppies and a corydora. However I went to a pet store yesterday and they didnt recommend corydoras with tetras.. the lady recommended i got snails or shrimp if i ever saw algae in the tank?
I have some neons in a ten gallon planted tank. I have a decently bright light, and as a result, they tend to hide when its on. What should I do to help them out? Add floating plants? What plants would have large and high leaves that would provide shade without blocking out the light from the other plants?
Neon tetras come from black water environments and therefore they prefer lower lighting settings and can get stressed in high light conditions such as those needed by a planted tank. If you are not already, try setting a timer so that lights will get dimmer or brighter in a day/night cycle. You can try a blackwater setup or dimmer lights, but if you want floating plants I suggest something like Amazon frogbit (what I use) or anything else similar to this. Duckweed and water spangles are some other common choices. Many of these plants grow very quickly as well so you may need to watch for that. You can also make a ring out of a floating material to prevent the plants from growing over the entire surface of the tank and blocking light or access for tank Maintenance. I hope this helps!
I have 3 neon tetras I glow fish and 2 corydoras in a 5 gallon. Is that to much ? They all seem to be happy. I would love a bigger tank but nobody likes my fish tank. 😔
The neons really only live up to their true potential once you get up to 20 gallon tanks, where you can add around 20 neon tetras. Also, might be a bit crowded for a small 5 gallon. A 10 gallon would be a good start, and you can add some more tetras in a 10 gallon as well.
Sorry if this is a bit harsh but yes. This is waaaaay too crowded. A 5 gallon is not suitable for many fish. Neon tetras need a school of at the very least 6 so a 10 gallon at the very minimum just for the neon tetras. I don't know much about glow fish but 5 gallons is probably too small. Corydoras also prefer larger schools and while they can survive with 2 or 3 they will do better with more. I don't know how you are judging their happiness, but it's generally pretty hard to tell if like their tanks because they can't talk or express themselves to humans. One of the reasons we keep fish in larger tanks Is to limit the ammonia build up. In too small of a tank with so many fish the bacteria that have grown over time will chemically burn the fishes lungs. They will get stressed as they have nowhere to hide from the other fish or to swim around. If you can’t afford to take care of your fish, it will be better for you and them to give them to a more experienced fish keeper who can take care of them and help them live to be happy and healthy. If you do want to continue with these fish, you will need to separate them soon, but first learn more about how to set up and cycle tank (the nitrogen cycle is very very important) and how to care for your specific fish. I would recommend monitoring them closely in their new tanks and treat with precautionary medications such as general cure from API especially if they have been in your 5 gallon for a while. To keep the stress low on the schooling fish you will need more, at least 6-8 for neon tetras, but make sure to learn how to quarantine those fish first.

If you're looking for other Tetris then the neon tetra. Green Congo is the best.
I like the bristle nose pleco because of their smaller size. I've seen plecos that just dominate tanks.
I have tetras sharing a tank with a betta. I notice that the tetras are occasionally aggressive toward the betta. Is this normal?
It's a bad pairing, death is around the corner

Im trying to find a new tankmate for my 4 swordtails, i only have 3 males and 1 female, what fish would be great tankmates for them?
Do cardinals and other similar looking tetras (green or black striped tetras) group to school/swim together (like they do with their own species)?
How many fish should I actually put in a 10 gallon ? I have 5 tetras and 3 corycatfish. Should I add more so they can school
Is the cherry shrimp the only variety that’s good for tetras?
can the dwarf gourami and glo danio good too
