  • In this exciting video, join me as I take on the challenge of restoring an old rear axle from a Peugeot 206 RC. Watch as I carefully strip the old axle down to its components, clean them up, and give them a new lease on life with fresh paint and new bearings.
    With the restoration complete, the real fun begins as I install the freshly restored axle on my own car. Follow along as I walk you through the installation process step-by-step, sharing tips and tricks along the way that will help you tackle your own car restoration projects.
    This video is perfect for anyone who loves working on cars, or who simply wants to learn more about the inner workings of a vehicle. So sit back, relax, and let's get our hands dirty as we restore and install this Peugeot 206 RC rear axle!

    Nicely done! I'm curious, you cut the exhaust because the arms are causing clearance problems? I have a 2 liter petrol and thinking about putting in a SW axle which also has the extra arms.

    So, the most important part (the trailing arm bearing) was left untouched?

      Correct should have done that, didn't really think about it at the time. But hey another thing I can make a video about in the future

    Are there two different lengths on the four bolts for mounting the rear axle to the frame? The rear bolts seem to have bottomed out since it is possible to rotate the washers on them by hand despite torqing to 120nM.

    • @DIYTuning
      @DIYTuning  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      No they should be the same lenght I think. Maybe the threads are damaged?

    Tell me please, is this 206 rear suspension INDEPENDENT? Because it looks very similar to tupical VW dependent rear axle.

    Hey man, how's it going? I'm from Brazil and I saw that your rear axle has too many arms that seem to be "independent", how do I find and buy this rear axle?

      Esses braços extra são os reforços, essa é a suspensão traseira da nossa 206SW/207SW. O único porém é que as ponteiras do quadro são de 50mm.

      I would say so, its a very simple car so easy and cheap fixes. The diesel engine on mine is very reliable.

    Ik vraag me dus of het verschil in rijervaring heel anders is met de achteras van een RC

    • @DIYTuning
      @DIYTuning  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nee valt wel mee, je kan beter de schokdempers doen. Ik had die al maar ik had nog geen schijfremmen dus ik besloot maar gelijk een RC as te halen.

    O eixo traseiro do Peugeot 206 aqui do Brasil é bem mais simples e frágil,sempre dá problema no rolamento da manga do eixo e acaba comendo o eixo,esse modelo ai me parece ser bem resistente.

      These are THE symptoms of a bad rear axle bearing, unfortunately. Get it checked out at a garage and you will most likely need the job done. Going through the same thing now.

    All this work and you didn't replace the axle bearings? This is the most problematic thing in this axle (and the only thing that is easier to do when the axle is not mounted)..

    • @DIYTuning
      @DIYTuning  ปีที่แล้ว

      Iknow probably should have done that. I couldnt get out the bolts out cause they stripped. I figured since it was an axle out of an RC it wouldnt have done much km so it would be fine. And honestly if I would have to do it in the future I dont think taking out the axle would be so much work now

    • @ToastyTaste532
      @ToastyTaste532 ปีที่แล้ว

      The biggest problem is that when there is some play in the axle, it's too late and you need to replace the pins also.
      And replacing them is not possible at home, the only option is to send the axle to a shop for full rebuild.
      Hope this one will last you but consider buying the bearings and replacing them when you get the chance.

    • @DIYTuning
      @DIYTuning  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the tips man, appreciate it. I will then probably replace them next winter. I dont drive the car as a daily anymore so it wont get much abuse untill then. One question, I also need to lower the rear, should i combine that with replacing the bearings?

    • @ToastyTaste532
      @ToastyTaste532 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DIYTuning Yes it's possible, as you need to take out the torsion bars anyway to lower the axle (and also to replace the bearings).
