Thank you Guthrie, for being kind enough to share your time with us. You're a good human being as well as being a great musician. Sorry to hear your hands giving you trouble. Hopefully they'll get back to where they were, but it's nothing noticeable to anyone but you I suspect. 😊

Hey Guthrie, what is your approach, how do you deal with jumping in last minute gig playing covers as a duo? I had the opportunity to get up and play guitar with a friend last night for a 4 hour bar gig. Laid back gig acoustic, I on electric. Was asked less than 24 hours before, had not played out in over a year and less due to ongoing health issues. More of an intermediate player, decided to do the gig. It went ok as bar goers saw. I made many mistakes and got fatigued pretty quickly following, transposing on the fly. Have the option to play the same gig again tonight. Just curious of any short hand approaches, tips you have to prepping. Was given partial song list. Thank you for all the great content. Hope your hand gets relief soon.

Criminally underrated. You've really inspired me to start playing again w/ renewed vigor. For weeks i been listening to your live performances on TH-cam over and over at work. You and uncle larebear have some bitchin tunes man. Really digging what you guys are up to. Thanks for everything you put out for us.

This was perfect actually. How do i say this? There is a difference when you are messing around like this for fun and when you trying to share a teaching, that makes me feel like listening for fun and enjoying compared to attentive listening to learn. Although i was still picking up what you have been telling us. If y'all don't know by now, its chord shapes, caged, triads, Major, Minor, 7th, and M7. The foundation is key. I been playin 22 years and didn't have this foundation in the beginning so i started over basically 4 years ago to unlearn and relearn. Because of Guthrie really driving this home tied in what i was piecing together from others. A big ahha! moment. This was cool to see a guitar debut. I appreciate this video

This is insanely good. I just watched Lage's solo acoustic thing from Belfast right before this and this improv is like a companion piece in that my jaw remained dropped.

That intro contains some of the most amazing original vocabulary along with several nods to the historical legends. Hope your hands heal well Guthrie! I’m in my mid 60s and starting to feel some “pins and needles” when I play.

So sorry Mr GT to hear of your struggle with your hands. Man, for us, we can't see any difference. The fluidity, speed and confidence with which you move across the fretboard is astounding. But sure can commiserate. As an older player, and living rural where we use our hands a lot, it started to be worrisome. Fortunately, like you said, regular practice and stretching has reversed what looked like a decline. Will be hoping for things to improve for you. We need to hear you for many, many years to come.

"Nerve Flossing" or Nerve Glides have been a huge help for me. Never knew what it was, but it's here on TH-cam. (Median, Ulnar, or Radial are three great ones for hands/arms) Also, Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM, Boron, and Turmeric are all great for the fluidity and easing up the pain a bit. I take them all the time. Recently started the Boron as recommended by Dr. Berg (again, here on TH-cam!) Definitely worth looking into if you want your hands to feel like your 25 not 45!

Guthrie, I’ll share - weird as it is. I’m a middle aged Midwestern dude that plays guitar every day, gig once each month. Career isn’t music. Went to a yoga class with my wife after she didn’t want to do it herself. Thought I’d go to bank up some points to use when I screw up. They did stretches that made my hands, forearms, elbows and shoulders feel like they did when I was 20. Shocked. I kept going with her - but partially because it is in another town and no one knows me. I was shocked with how it helped.

Gt, with that gretch pickup switch. You probly know this but anyone who doesn't One easy way to figure out what pickups are active is to grab something metal, little screw driver whatever and tap each pickup with it. You will hear it through the amp clearly. In and out of phase is another story.

Oh wow this playing is amazing GT! Such rich musical ideas its so good to hear and very inspiring, real blessing thanks so mutch for sharing. I love that flow man so glad you put out this videos! Im sorry to hear about your hands. I had heavy problems with my tendon and comfry really helped me a lot. Playing double bass gigs and not practicing a lot gave me pain. But you have to take the smelly brown one of DR ANDRES. I suggested it to a musician friends with tennis ellbow prblems since years and it really was the only thing that helped him. Its a natural thing just ugly smelling i personally really feel the strenght in my hands coming back after i put it on. I dont know if you have a complete other thing, but If you would give a try and dont find it i would from the heart send it to you. i can buy it here in switzerland. Man GT your to young to have problems and pain is shitty and scary but yeah we all get older..take care of yourself man, i wish you all the best. GT "show" for life :) The end is legendary man hehe, too many knobs and choises...

    Gretsch controls on that one
Switch nearest your head is the pickup selector down=bridge, middle=both and up=neck.
The toggle switch just below that one is a "Tone" switch similar to the Gibson ES345/355 uses capacitor to emulate middle=no capacitor used/brightest tone, down a bit less bright/similar to tone turned halfway down, up=way less bright/tone know turned all the way down.
Master volume on the lower cutaway
Individual volume knob for each pickup
The toggle at the bottom of the guitar is a "standby" switch which is off in the middle and the up or down are signal pass through/on.
TV Jones filtertron pickups are the nuts. can get great tele tones but no hum.

Actually liked the Standby switch. It was my 1st good guitar and only one from 1970 til 76. Then went les paul and Rosewood tele. It had the SUPERTRON pickups in it, they were the BEST PART of that instrument for sure.

    Also Collings has this ‘hill
Country’ line that I think are less bright, i like those with Pure Nickel strings, less overtones but great. Have a nice week. Im going to webcast the NYC shows. Looking forward to it.

If you search on YT there’s a good John Petrucci video on this subject. I also take Glucosamine for my joints, but you may find that Curcumin, Omega 3 or Cod Liver oil supplements give some relief. Hope this helps.

Guthrine if you had a massage on your hands and arms the day before. You can't expect peak performance the next day. Body flesh tendines and ligament's need to rest and repair... I deal with it as well. It's ok to take a day off or so, your body will then have a better appetite to perform. Pace and balance as you get older... listen to your body.... But keep the clips coming we love them!
