The intuitive, invisible bond between ALL these musicians - is beautiful to see. And no one surpasses these 3 ladies - either on their own, or together. That they rely on their natural talent alone - which they have in spades - with NO digital enhancement, or miming to perfect recordings - is a miracle in itself. Catch any of today's singers being able to do that.

the power of Ronstadt's voice is amazing. so much control. Such a well mastered instrument. She took the lead on this one, but they trade off in so many other Trio gems. Amazing Trio.
Ronstadt's voice is so pure. Her sound blows away most female singers today. Such a shame that her voice is silenced. But as long as her music is out there she will be remembered as one of the outstanding voices of the era.
These three are so beautiful together! Linda is my angel, and I love hearing her solo , but collaborations are amazing as well. You can't go wrong with Ms. RONSTADT
@@christinamoyle2762 So true. What is it about that voice? Think she was happiest singing with others. Give "Bed of Roses" by Chesapeake a listen. Her harmonies with Moondi Klein are just gorgeous.
Emmylou's sadness is palpable in everything she does as well. Most of her songs are about the loss of Gram Parsons. I don't think she can get over that. When I first fell in love with Emmy, after I already loved Linda, I wondered why a beautiful, gifted lady like Emmy could always look so sad. I didn't know the Gram backstory at the time.
@@justaflamingo Did you come here, too, during these acrimonious and anxious times for a little respite of beauty, creativity, and harmony from three artists, different in appearance and background, but united in song? Just listened to the Complete Trio Collection the other week and it was a balm for my weary soul. It is difficult enough to experience the loss of significant people in our lives when we/they are older, but the unexpected wrenching of a young person from this world when we are young is a jolt to the psyche from which we never quite heal. These three literally gave voice to the wistfulness and lingering grief we can never seem to shake. Despite the darkness and discord that seems to be blanketing our world these days, there is still much ever-present light to be enjoyed. It is reassuring to know there are others out there seeking it, too.
@@justaflamingo Angels indeed. Did you ever see any of them live? One of my great regrets in life was not seeing Linda Ronstadt live when she was right in my backyard more times when I can count starting in the 70's. I still have a chance with Emmylou and Dolly.
@@lnl3237 I saw Linda in 1977 and Willie Nelson opened for her. She had on the exact outfit she wears in the Atlanta '77 clips. Never saw Linda again, saw Willie at least a half dozen times, never got to see Emmylou :( and I was never really into Dolly, except for Trio, but have seen her perform while working on tv productions she was on.
@PK Blondie No I didn't see that. It's sad the Parkinsons prevents her from being able to perform. Linda is a very beautiful, humble lady with incredible talent. I absolutely love Linda!!
This song is simply stunning. The harmonies are out of this world. Linda’s voice packs so much emotion. Emmy n Dolly’s harmony is surreal. The whole arrangement is transcendental.
Dolly has the voice of the people’s of the mountains of this country. You can hear the traditions and the Irish/Scottish lilting in her delivery. Her beautiful mouth and teeth structure allows her to pronounce her words in a beautiful flowing clear style. You can always imagine her singing on a porch at her mommas house with brothers and sisters and cousins joining in with perfect harmony and feeling. EmmyLou has the pure sound of the Folk movement in this country that included the 60’s folk sound and the youthful punch it brought to the words being sung by revolutionary artists of her time. Linda has a unique blend of the lilting, and the Mexican voice that could belt out very difficult melodies in the style of the Mariachi/Ranchero sound that is still popular today, BUT, Linda had a greater knowledge of music and its theory and how to control the voice and how to blend in and out of the throat and a greater understanding of singing. Her gift was not only her raw talent. She took her talent to a higher ground with her knowledge of how music and singing work. She is a professional musician.
Well said. All those years of growing up listening to so many genres of music and having musical parents really gave Linda an edge over most singers because I think the exposure helped. I love that she sang so many styles and absolutely killed it in all of them.
I've enjoyed these three legendary female vocalists for at least 30 years, but this is the first time I've seen them backed up by Sam Bush on mandolin. Lovely.
not a single change in their voices. I should start with a disclaimer: I'm older than dirt, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that I first heard Linda Ronstadt singing a song on a friend's record with the Stone Poneys, I particularly remember the line "it''s about time you came back anyway" but time and brain cells being what they are, that, and her beautiful, powerful, clear, and true voice are all I remember. A lot of singers have come and gone in the mean time, but when I heard that voice again on TH-cam, I was transfixed. I'm thankful that we live in a time where I can hear her sing again.
I heard her in concert back in the day, too. She & the Stone Ponys opened up for the Eagles in those days. I was/am a huge Linda fan. One of the most pure voices ever.
I first heard her on the Stone Poneys song Different Drum when it came out in 1967, the year I turned 16 and started driving, and instantly fell in love with that voice. I got in my ‘55 Chevy and went to the record store to buy the 45. When I got there, I saw the Evergreen album with her picture on the cover and instantly fell in love with that face (Google it and you’ll see why). I bought both the 45 and the album…..and at 73 I still have both!!!
Transcendent synergy with these three gifted geniuses. This trio is definitely a one-off. I'm same age as Ms Ronstadt and I've been in a 50-year affair with the unique timbre of her voice. I should say 'voices'. How she has definitively interpreted multiple style genres, each with it's own voicing - including the emotion-tinged plaintiveness of Mexican folk music - is simply incredible. Eleven damn grammys - in two languages. She's responsible for Emmylou Harris, an exceptional talent in her own right. She was an absolute gift to popular music for 40 years. There's a lot of us who wish her the very best.
I would wholeheartedly agree, her voice is just otherworldly, her words exude so much emotion. She is the only singer that can make cry tears of joy. And sadness.....at the same time! What a treasure !
Very special harmonies. Linda's voice here is just remarkably gorgeous. She gave a few recent, 2014, interviews she looked lovely, sounded strong, witty and longing to sing with her friends again but can not due to her illness. Lucky we have all her eclectic music on record and TH-cam to get us through the heartbreak.

Yes indeed! Tears of joy and sadness....at the same time! ONLY Linda Ronstadt can take one on an emotional roller coaster ride like that! Oh my God, i love my Linda and thank you for sending her here to us !
Each of these ladies add something that creates a whole so much beyond their individual pieces. Linda has such a strong and powerful voice, that she so easily modulates down to support her sisters. Emmy Lou, while probably the least powerful of the three, has the ability to find harmonies where there doesn't seem to be space for one. And Dolly can sing with emotion and clarity that is hers alone. These three voices have blessed us with music that we will NEVER see, nor hear again!
"Higher than the High Sierra, lower than Death Valley must be..." Those California centric lyrics get me right in my California girl soul. I miss the California of my youth. I live far, far away now. This song hits so hard and so deep. And, the harmonies are perfect.
As a country we are so obsessed with how a person looks. I have always loved Linda Ronstadt's voice and I could care less how she looks. These three ladies make such wonderful harmony. VERY talented indeed.
How True Mr. Steve Aldrup - the obsessing over Looks Vs.Talent is antiquated. It's impossible Not to Notice that these Ladies are Jaw Droppers. In EVERY WAY. Not noticing Dolly Parton? The good, the bad and this and that. Then there is Linda and that voice. Surrounded here by two stellar talents and heavenly harmonies.
Got to see Linda Ronstadt with the Stone Ponies in Cincinnati many years ago, (Concerts were not so exspensive back then)! Was so wonderful, have several of her Albums! Niece got me a new record player for Christmas, now I can listen to all of my old records! I have a trunk full!
Linda has a beautiful voice, powerful yet tender, full of emotion, with the ability to make you feel exactly what she is feeling. I'm blessed to be able to continue to listen to her. I appreciate her more the older I get.
So agree. I loved her growing up but really had no idea of the range of music she sang until seeing Sound of My Voice. After that I picked up everything she's recorded. Her voice blows me away!
Ronstadt was in possession of a pure, powerful, beautiful and yet tender voice. Nothing else like it. Her musical journeys with many superb musical friends were divine.
Sounds like three angels to me. Brought that uncomfortable lump in my throat, even though its not comfortable we all get it. Thanks to the three angels and Thanks for posting
"Wrong about you, right about me." Killer lyrics and harmonies. Linda's instrument is so clear, so sad - Dolly and Emmy Lou seem to comfort her from such deep heartbreak.
Great harmonies by the greatest voices and an all star cast of musicians including the best mandolin player in the world, Sam Bush. Close as it comes to perfection.
Have you listened to Sarah Jarosz sing "High Sierra" (the video is available on TH-cam from A Prairie Home Companion)? Or everything else she's done? She's also a part of the female supergroup I'm With Her, with Aoife O'Donovan and Sara Watkins. There are many folks young and old that think they are an even better trio, both vocally and instrumentally. Do yourself a favor and give them a listen. Great music like this is not dead and gone, it's alive and growing! If this was a different era, everyone in America would know those names.
These women still give me goose bumps when I hear them sing. And I have listened to this album and the first one over and over. I agree with the comments on this page. Well said everyone.
What a trio and band! Simply marvelous. This song has so much emotion and no one comes close to the way it's performed here. Harmonies so sweet they're banned in rural Kentucky.
Linda has had one of the most angelic voices of my time. I saw her live twice, once as Trio. Tragic how nature takes that which is our legacy from us. Her announcement today made me wistful for her classics. She'll always be a favorite female artist to me.
These three are certainly sisters of the soul. The timing and accuracy of their performances is really astonishing. It's rare that life-long bands perform so well, but there three. It's really amazing.
The three of them together what great harmony and Linda Ronstadts voice like no others just so beautiful gosh it gives me goose bumps listening to here solos .
Ok this is amazing. I am a gigantic Linda fan. In 1970 I was sitting in the back seat of the most advanced fighter plane in the world flying with three other F 4s in formation. We dropped into a valley in the high sierras that was about 8000 feet high. In the middle there was a fire tower on a single peak. We let down into the valley and banked to the right. We flew around the fire tower on the peak in the middle. The fire watcher came out on the balcony and waved and we watched by looking straight "up" at him. That was the high sierra. I know this has nothing to do with this song but every time I hear it I think of this moment. Perhaps the ranger does too. Who knows. It pulls a LOT of emotion. She (Linda) is amazing. Being a perfectionist has its cost.😩
I love Linda Ronstadt so much. Listening to her taught me to sing when I was around 9 years old. Her beautiful voice still gives me chills. It's so pure and powerful.
The 3 icon's of country, I have loved Linda's music since my teens (70's ) into Dolly and Emmylou a bit later, each have their own style of singing, together amazing. My Heart goes out to Linda and her family facing this cruel illness, I'm sure i'm not alone in wishing her all the best
Absolutely beautiful. Linda you have a voice that will always endure. Beautiful, strong and pure. I’ve loved your voice as long as I can remember, and I always will.
Just fab. What an incredible set of pipes on Ronstadt. Every stage of her slightly disjointed but incredibly creative career has been a musical gift. A natural pure vocalist. Her harmonious girlfriends here are pretty great as well.
Jonathan Wallach Yep, Hardest working voice of my generation! The most perfect cry in her torchy vocals, a songwriter's dream vocalist... You know she wrote and arranged "Try Me Again", a really beautiful gem, from someone who modestly claims she is a song interpreter... When most of us felt, is she covered it Ronstadt owned it!😝...
@@mikebtko Ronstadt is not appreciated enough for basically having invented what became modern country music. Listen to Faith Hill's "Cry" for which she won a grammy for best country vocal female in 2002 and you can just imagine Linda singing it on one of her albums in the 70s (ten times better I might add) and it being considered country rock. As for song writing, she said that singing her own lyrics was incredibly embarrassing and too personal for her. She was the greatest pure vocalist with the GREATEST pure instrument for power and beauty in the history of popular music. I saw Pirates in the Park and she was wonderful. I'm an opera fanatic and her voice needed developing but I have no doubt if she gave that a year or two she would have been fantastic. The high Eb at the end is worthy of a light coloratura at the Met. Then there's her Cuban/Latin album Frenesi, etc. There really was nothing she couldn't do or was a afraid to try. I'm grateful after this year that she will finally be remembered for the giant she was.
Hard to believe the beautiful harmony that these three brilliant soloists make. Their voices meld beautifully to create a unique single sound. Doesn't seem possible that these singers haven't spend years working as a group. It demonstrates the music abilities of all three wonderful singers.
The mixing for these three women is very important--equal mic's because they perfectly balance (mix down) their harmonies by themselves without sound engineering. That's one of the miracles of their collaboration--individuals' God given talents so well matched and perfectly balanced.
What a magnificent TRIO................ I love all of them.... Linda Ronstadt was such an amazing performing her voice was truly amazing as well as Dolly and Emmylou's.
This sounds better than the CD. Trust me...I have it in my bathroom and listen to it every morning in the shower. The real mark of an artist...able to perform whenever, wherever for whomever. :-) Thanks for posting.
Just Awesome. These three ladies have been around as long as I can remember and their voices blend together so well. To bad for the crap we have to listen to on the radio these days
A never to be forgotten trio whose voices melded together to produce a sound that astonished even them the first time they sang together. All three were superstars in their own right and own separate genre. But when they combined their voices they produced music of the angels.
No words to describe the TRIO, will always treasure the songs sung over the many years of their careers. Lots of love from the land of the long white cloud....
It was this song that got me into Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou as I had not really come across them before stumbling across this 15 years ago. It's always been one of the most played tracks in my collection. Such a brilliant combination of voices and sung with such skill. Beautiful lyrics too, always makes me dream...
Greetings, All, I was a professional musician for just over 30 years, and have worked with some super heavy talents in my day. It really doesn't get much better than this!! Emmy Lou, Linda, and Dolly show what real harmony is all about, and sets the bar far higher than most of those that pass for talented in today's mediocre music business!
Could listen to these idols all day long beautiful ....and Carl Jackson on guitar wow what a great group of wonderful musicians incredible...
Sam Bush on mandolin too.
Great harmonies by the greatest voices and an all star cast of musicians including the best mandolin player in the world, Sam Bush. Close as it comes to perfection.
How wonderful. All special women -Linda's voice is from another universe here.
No one is better than Linda. She has always been favorite fave
Usually only immediate family members have such great harmony. 3 of the greats together can't go wrong! WONDERFUL!!! WOW!!!
I've been a huge fan of Linda Ronstadt since the 1970s!
One of my favorite songs, sung by my 3 fav American female singers. Nobody can touch them. Ever. Pure Genius!
Yes, they are wonderful. Add Alison Krauss, and that would have made a fantastic foursome, had Linda not had to stop singing.
@@chrisdoran3949 Why do people do this? Nobody thinks they are better.
LR the best vocalist ever.. and to see her struggle her is heart breaking.. My inspiration for all time ...
When Linda Ronstadt sings, around 1 minute into this video... just melts my heart
Love these ladies together, but Linda what a powerful gorgeous voice. heard this and had to get the cd.
Linda Ronstadt was my all time favorite female artist. I saw her in concert three times. Such a beautiful voice. Love Emmy Lou and Dolly as well.
these women are so absolutely different but so absolutely complimentary. wonderful.
As a musician, the two most heartfelt compliments I've gotten from people are; you made me cry, or you gave me chills..... this one does both to me.
Make me cry...hearing these voices in their prime.
These three voices are on a totally different level. Not even CSN was this good
Linda’s voice is silent now but the memories of her performances keep coming back to my mind. Hope you’re doing okay Linda.
Ms. Ronstadt may be an "icon of country", but she is not in the CMHOF.
This song, these magnificent ladies' voices blending take me back to many a night looking up at a million stars. Thanks
My god what a voice Linda has !
gorgeous song. Linda is a treasure.
Hi Warren. As a musician and ardent Ronstadt fan I'm curious as to why you would describe her career as slightly disjointed. Cheers
collick100 That’s fairly obvious, no? Country, rock, operetta, opera, standards, mariachi, etc. etc.
I think I've listened to this video a hundred times... just love all of their voices and together so gorgeous.
RainGirl Oh good. I'm not the only one.
IMO one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever recorded.
Oh my goodness, things just don't get any better than when these three got together. Truly inspired.
Great Harley Allen tune performed by three greats!
One of the most beautiful things I've ever heard
Linda's voice is truly amazing!
I absolutely love this song. I heard it first years ago on a morning show... did not even like country but loved it instantly.
Beautiful timeless harmony...
I live here on the High Sierra , always have liked the song
Dolly's. Harmony's and accompanist vocals are incredible.
Such heavenly voices, so therapeutic to the soul, both albums worth every penny and more! What a collaboration!
A never to be forgotten trio whose voices melded together to produce a sound that astonished even them the first time they sang together. All three were superstars in their own right and own separate genre. But when they combined their voices they produced music of the angels.
my gosh;;; Linada's voice wow;;wow;;wow. I love Linda no matter how old you are. still look beautiful, that voice,
Music that will live for ever! Priceless to the heart! Ken Skeen
Linda Ronstadt made millions doing rock. But this is what she likes best.
No words to describe the TRIO, will always treasure the songs sung over the many years of their careers. Lots of love from the land of the long white cloud....
These beautiful women have the voices of angels. Thank you for posting.
This is one of the best trio songs. That opening moment with all 3 together is stunning.
Greetings, All,
I was a professional musician for just over 30 years, and have worked with some super heavy talents in my day. It really doesn't get much better than this!! Emmy Lou, Linda, and Dolly show what real harmony is all about, and sets the bar far higher than most of those that pass for talented in today's mediocre music business! All three are timelessly lovely, in voice, face, and form. I sang lead vocal in many bands, but only rarely with such talent as these Ladies! God Bless!
It sure makes the hair on your neck/arm stand on end eh? Linda's solo is powerful. She's got the kind of voice that can knock you down. I love this work. Each singer adds their own special touch to the song.
