in the Serbian army, the field meal is very similar to the Russian one, with the difference that we have, as part of the military water bottle, packed cutlery and a dish for reheating food.. Российские ложки ломаются с острыми краями, а американская ложка не держит высокие температуры, от кипятка "заворачивается"... Лучший концепт как у немцев WH-BW и раньше в РККА-СА - индивидуальный металлический столовый прибор (ложка-ложка/вилка) "прокунымил" - сам виноват...😉

Здравствуйте,Даниил. Наш сухпаек рассчитан как раз на наши условия. Он должен быть сытным и жирным,чтобы в морозы человек мог прожить . Для перекусов там как раз и есть крекеры. И сомневаюсь ,что кто-то думал,что солдат во время боя начнёт есть) Хоть у нас и говорят «война войной,а обед по расписанию»,но не прямо во время стрельбы будут доставать говядину) У нас в принципе вся еда сытная должна быть,поэтому готовим 1,2,3 и компот. Очень улыбнуло как Вам не понравился паштет))) Попробуйте его намазать на гренки и сверху положить сливовое варенье-вкус совершено другой) Спасибо за видео

@@Wild-Siberia I don't know any russian people(does not mean they no exist only for my experience) who will eat pashtet by itselfes. It not what it meant to be. First af all pashtet is made from meat. Sometimes from hepatic(not combined either from meat either from hepatic usually. Yours from meat. I actually do like both(may be from hepatic parts of geese is better, anyway pashtet tastes much much better with a good peace of bread(I prefer white) where you spread it up on it like butter. And with hot sugared tea it is all combine with a very good combination. Most taste for me is in combine. You bite a "buterbrod" (this word russian use for bread with something on it could be butter could be cheese could be bacon) just a little bit chew(like 2-3 seconds) and the sipping a hot sweat tea . And all this mixe in your mouth tastes really good. I won't say that this is crazy but this is tastes good like 8/10 especially if you are hungry and wanna get quick and satisfying snack and you do not have time or wish for cooking a big meal. I do not say this is the only way, but many people do kinda same. For me every ingredient is important. You throw away either of those and have little to no satisfaction at all. May be without tea it would be still like 5 / 10 but without bread on which you spread it up I understand why you dislike it. May be if you did it right way you would get a better outcome. Without these combinations of cause it could taste strange for anyone(except if people know the trick and used to it so they can handle unconciously). And just a little observation, after you taste it first of all you wanna eat crackers(kinda bread isn't it?) and then sweat(analogy with tea with sugar). But of course it does not do the job for you cuz very important is mix. Little to more spread pashtet on a bread (so this to goes combined together in the first seccond) then hot sweat tea about to 2-3 seconds after.
@@Wild-Siberiaя проходил службу в армии России 2015-2019.Человек прав в том что Российский MRE расчитан на природные и климатические условия именно России.Жирная пища и ее колличество позволит солдату иметь больше сил.В Российском MRE есть 6 вариантов.(5-6 самые вкусные.там есть рис с курицей и тефтели с овощами😂)Раньше вместо бекона был шпик(кусок сала).А шоколад и жвачку всегда можно было обменять на что угодно и ребят.😂 Спички кстати ветро-влаго-защитные(можно их опустить в воду и они все равно продолжат гореть.).На счет способа разогревать еду я полностью согласен.Это неудобно и долго.(Было бы круто совместить пакет для разогревания пищи из Американского MRE и засовывать туда банки с едой из Российского MRE😂😂). Бывает, что солдаты отдают сухпайки гражданским, которые пострадали от войны (такое и сейчас сами знаете где происходит). Тогда пюре из овощей и фруктов можно использовать как детское питание

In Belgium the rations are similar to the Russian ones. We consider that a man cannot do correctly two things at a time: either eat or walk/fight. But if you do both, it is scientifically demonstrated that a human digest better when stopping for its meal. Also, eating is social and this is why you need to have a break.

Коробка из-под пайка может служить как ёмкость для воды - внутри специальный слой. Если вода берётся из водоёма, то для обеззараживания используют те самые таблетки из набора. И ещё: банки с едой следует разогревать, предварительно открыв. Так они лучше разогреваются и меньше вариантов обжечься.

В новых пайках открывать порции не нужно, они сами открываются когда нагреты до нужной температуры, единственно что на морозе или сильном ветре может не открыться - тогда нужно открывать самому.
Привет Дэниэль! У этих пайков есть номера 1-7, по одному на каждый день недели. Содержимое пайка изменяется, чтобы не приедался. Это очень грамотно сделано, так как люди могут быть изолированы долгое время (например месяц).
Ну или на 1.5 года. Кстати по поводу объёма еды скажу что одно дело когда морпех идёт на задание, там наверное нужен меньший объём, и совсем другое когда солдаты сидят в окопах. Entrenched warfare серьёзно отличается от того что было в афганистане, ираке и т.д.
@@Wild-Siberia it makes sense why American MRE's have less food,in warm/hot climates the last thing you want is to eat a lot when running around in hot weather,all you need is enough water and some sugar with protein to give you energy. I can't think of a war America fought in a cold climate ever since ww2.It's all middle east/Africa. In a cold climate even in regular European damp winter if you dont eat properly your body wont be able to keep warm and you will freeze off your fingers,that's why Russian MRE'S are filled with fat,protein and carbs. Also that fat in the food can be used elsewhere,Russian guys now in Ukraine dont even use MRE'S/unless they are stormtroopers, because they get supplied regular flour,grain and potatoes with carrots and cabbage and everything else to make basic army meals so with that fat you bake potatoes on a campfire on an old school carbon steel pan and it tastes amazing- if you go actual Russian style camping you should try,also ash roasted potatoes are amazing,you bury a raw potato with it's skin into an almost dead campfire-best tasting potato in the world. American military doesn't really fight trench wars,it's more fast paced go in and extract,Russia does mostly trench wars,they move a few km a day taking block after block so yes they start literal camp fires and get supplies to their locations simple things like bags of potato,canned meat and other things.
There are also MRE's with the water-bag heater. There are many types of MRE's in Russia for different situatuons and types of troops. This one is universal and more common. This particular one is the MRE for one whole day.
We also have kits with chemical heating. It depends on the units for which the MRE is created. SOF guys get kits with chemical heating - they have no time to kindle a fire or it's can be dangerous during the mission. Your MRE for the regular army.
@@Wild-Siberia my thoughts would that as Russia is so cold, water would be better conserved as drinking and if you did need water you would have to use one of those cooking bickets anyway to melt the snow to get the water to heat your american MRE. But i'm not military so i could be 100% wrong.
@@Wild-Siberia you can try find water in liquid state in the fields in trenches in -20 C degree in winter, good luck with that. Fire is a more universal option for the Russian army in the temperature and weather conditions of Eurasia

Этот проект подошёл Вам с Ларсом на пикник в лесу у костра, тушёнку добавить в суп что Вы готовили ...... Посмотрите как шведы греют свои пайки и готовят на выходе на боевое задание..... Где Ваша смекалка если вы в машине, БТР, танк, САУ можно нагреть на двигателе во время остановке..... Но во время боя, или выход в тылу противника не до еды будет..... А так во время отдыха, погрел если есть возможность и неплохое паспорте, пока полевая кухня доберётся до тебя или ты до неё.... Всё это специфика армии разных стран мира кухни ..... Хочу дополнить твой комментарий. В Советской Армии был химический разогрев еды. Наливаешь воды в котелок и бросаешь таблетку - вода кипит, а в ней разогреваешь консервы. Это удобно, особенно ночью т.к. нет пламени. Но от этого способа почему-то отказались, наверно были причины. Ну и сам знаешь во время боя - не до еды, если перерыв короткий, то все продукты можно съесть и холодными, они по вкусу тоже неплохие. А во время передышки (ночью) можно поесть по-настоящему.
Я служил в армии Белорусии. Там с сухпайком всё более просто. Есть 3 банка тушенки, 3 банки каши, 3 упаковки крекеров (сухого хлеба), немного шоколада и конфет, чай и сахар. Но есть один очень важный коммерческий ньюанс. Сухпай собран из компонентов исключительно государственных предприятий. Ни каких частных компаний.

It was interesting to watch the tasting of MRE rations, I would like to comment on some points, as a person who has eaten more than a dozen of such MREs :) The 3 small tablets that you found are a powerful water disinfectant, one tablet is enough for about 1 liter of water. One big one is a multivitamin complex. Russian MREs are equipped with our harsh climate in mind, so some of the products in it seemed too fatty to you. As a rule, we always drained excess fat in field conditions when it was warm, but in the heat it is simply necessary to do this, because serious stomach problems can arise. In the cold, fat helps to keep the soldier warm and energy. Even in military units in the winter, we were always given pieces of lard for lunch. I was very worried about you, watching how you tried pate (pashtet) :) this dish has been common in Russia since the times of the Russian Empire (as a delicacy, whose homeland is France) and the USSR (when it became widely available). As I understand it, in the USA you practically do not eat animal liver and products prepared on its basis. Frankly, all this “controlled fire” stuff seems like a complete BS to me. A plausible explanation used by the locals across the country to do what they like to do. Bonus questions: Who actually controls the fire on-site? How specifically is it “controlled”?

А ещё на беконе или сале который в сухпае можно пожарить что-нибудь например гречку 😂, или рис который есть отдельно, внутренней коробкой и запасными спичками можно разжечь огонь в лесу из веток , а в основной коробке при правильном открытии можно сходить на речку и принести в ней воды т к. она герметична, из алюминиевой крышки блюда сделать ложку ! Там все продуманно на 100%
Интересный обзор! Такой формат очень интересен! Таблеток для обеззараживания раньше клали 6-8 штук, но русские солдаты пользуются ими очень редко или не пользуются вообще, возможно в крайнем случае только. Когда я служил в армии, ни кто ими не пользовался т.к. вода была всегда чистая, а воду из реки всё равно нужно кипятить. Армейские пайки даже сейчас вспоминаю, при всей их простоте это вкусно, тому кому такая еда не нравится, скорее всего избалован. Мне в нашем пайке не нравится посуда, ужасный чай и кофе, всё остальное очень вкусное. Сама коробка для пайка биоразлагаемая, но так же может использоваться в качестве ведра для переноски воды если её открывать правильно. Российский сухой паёк является одним из лучших по соотношению цена\качество\количество Мне было забавно видеть, как некоторые блюда не понравились и это нормально, я бы например тоже не смог съесть острую пищу или что то иное. например в некоторые иностранные пайки кладут жуков или блюда из личинок, я бы такое не смог есть)) Ты не правильно зажигал огонь, спичку нужно просто класть на сухое топливо, за счёт температуры всё загорится Крышки на продуктах нужно немного открывать в области язычка для открывания , тогда еда будет лучше разогреваться и ты не обожжёшь руки когда будешь открывать Твой паёк был для полигона, поэтому в нём таганок и сухое топливо, есть пайки для полевых выходов в них современные беспламенные грелки, так же такие пайки использует Российский спецназ и специальные подразделения Российской армии. Данный вид пайка из видео предназначен для учений Российской армии в более простых условиях , чем боевые действия, для боевых действий есть пайки с другим типом грелок. Разогреватель из этого пайка можно использовать так же для обогрева палатки, он очень хорошо греет небольшую палатку до такой степени, что в ней становится даже жарко, как экстренное средство согревания очень подходит В Российских сухих пайках гораздо меньше химии, чем в Иностранных, поэтому у них не всегда такой вкус, который ты ждёшь, но для Российских солдат еда вкусная, это более привычно нам
I haven't had to eat an MRE since the 90s when I was in the army. However as you talk about the differences in the food that could also relate to what you touched upon, the fact that US military MRE is eat on the go says there's a difference in fighting styles. Also you touched upon the higher sugar content in the US MREs as opposed to fat content in Russian MREs. This is a truth that has been discovered by people who eat KETO or Carnivore...the higher the fat content the less hungry you are. The higher the sugar content the more frequently you require food. So not only could the type of MREs be attributed to fighting styles, but also to the lack of need to eat and when they do it's more than enough to last for maybe a day or two if they don't have to eat. I think it would be interesting to find out if Russians even carry MREs with them other than the ones they already opened. Perhaps it's as you say that meal is for two days.
This is such a goldmine of a comment! Thanks for noticing these small details, I will say in Afghanistan I drank a lot of water and usually only ate 1 yes just 1 MRE the entire day! I would also rarely need more food but Id take 2 if I needed to do night patrols of course. I must agree I doubt Russians are carrying the food on patrols and or different battles they fight their wars different than us we were unconventional and they are currently doing conventional conflict! Like the idea of the American mre heating packs that you can put in your pack while doing combat missions. Unfortunately there is little chance to do patrol missions in the current conflict. Soviets in 50s&60s also had like USA chemical heating system,when you drop a pill in water and it starts to boil,but they took them off production,some Russian MRE still have that system too,but they are not state made,official army ones

Thanks Daniel, I was very impress of the little flat metal sheet converted in10 seconds to a full food heating system ... in my time we had those type of fire pill but we were using small rock to support the can.

По себе замечаю, что зимой хочется сала, жирной еды, а летом - зелень, фрукты, организму не требуется много энергии для поддержания температурного режима.
Какая зима какая жара? Жир=калории а без калорий ты немошным становишся очень быстро, одному богу известно в каких передрягах ты попадешься на войне и на какой срок, и без жирной еды ты по просту долго не протянешь все же логично и понятно как ясный день. На войне люди в окопах примерно пару недель лежат до ротации, и там где идут периодически бои основном эти сухпайки и кушают, по вашему без жирной еды солдат с таким скромным пайком сколько протянет в окопе где периодически обстреливается? А вода это ценный ресурс даже ценнее чем еда и не логично было бы его тратит на подогрев пайка. Пайки с водонагревателем предназначены для спецподразделений у которых задачи совсем иные. Или же для выполнения спецзаданий такие пайки выдаются. А окопному бойцу такой сухпаек только в минус это лишняя трата воды)))
I'm assuming those tablets for the fire are actually to be used on a mess kit, I think that is something that is carried by Russian troops that isn't today in the US. The Russian mess kits are a multi piece metal pot with pan. I have used kits like that with fuel tablets or some alcohol stoves before, not sure how Russian troops are taught to do it, but a great method is digging a small hole and setting the stove/fuel bit down in it to eliminate wind, then you put your cooking pot/pan on top and can add a variety of food together to make a kind of stew. You can then also boil water for hot coffee this way with the tablet as well.
@@Wild-Siberia Worth mentioning too that while it's a little more inconvenient to cook / boil water this way, you waste very little. With the American MRE you waste the water used for heating, and that water can be a valuable commodity depending on how bad of a situation you are in. Plus when you have a mess kit you can always heat food/water without the tablets and use any type of kindling. All you need is fire. The Russians like to keep it simple.
It's very funny how you react to the taste of the pate.. It's all because you are used to eating spicier food since childhood, in Russia they almost don't eat spicy food, so it will seem tasteless to you.

Totally true - one day, after a hike in the mountains in heavy snowstorm, we made it to a chalet and had a hot cocoa. I was probably an ordinary mixture of hot milk and cheap instant cocoa, but back there and then, it tasted like God's food, we savored every single sip of it! 🙂 Same applies to simple canned pork - almost a dog food in the valley, but a culinary miracle after hours of hiking in the mountains!

Could it be the difference MRE concepts are due to the difference in type of war USA and Russia engage in? USA fights a lot of insurgencies where there are no well defined contact lines so meals need to be as quick and efficient. while Russia fights in large wars with defined borders so they can afford to sit down for a hearty meal not only for energy but for comfort as well? As a complete lay person, I feel the meals are based on completely different philosophies.

There are many MRE in Russia and many of them have flameless heaters. But specifically, these are just for eating them in a trench or during exercises. In other words, in my opinion, it would be great if these MREs had such a heater too. But this will not happen, since according to the plan, the soldiers should have a kitchen. That is, this MRE is opened when there is simply no access to the kitchen.

Danny, I believe those smaller pills are water purification tablets to disinfect contaminated water. The larger one may be a vitamin pill. Goulash is a sort of meat stew, I think. The one meat thing you made a face to looks like a liver pate (which Senia likes), and it does need an acquired taste. The Canadian MRE (called IMP: Individual Meal Pack) is like to the USA MRE, it also has heating elements, just add water, and is meant for on the go too. Ours is also more eco-friendly as the plastic bags can be burned for disposal, no metal containers to clutter up the place. That meal is a full day's meal for hard working, perhaps 3500 kcal, perhaps for cold weather activities. We used to do a controlled burn in our village when I was a kid (back in the 1960's) and everything came up rich and green. I like the old ways.

Food in metal containers is intended for heating with alcohol tablets, which are included in the kit. These are large white tablets. You burn the pill with a match and put an already open container on the fire. Thus, the soldier receives normal hot food.

Понимаю, что опоздал, но тем не менее дам пояснение и несколько советов. Наш паек рассчитан на сутки, наполненные физическими нагрузками, это одна из причин большого количества жира и соли в рационе. Вторая причина - суровые климатические условия. Также такой паек обычно выдается во время перемещений, пока нет условий для установки полевой кухни, и как рацион на случай перебоев с поставкой горячей пищи. Или же во время боевых выходов. Паек можно вполне себе есть и холодным. Да, он потеряет часть своих вкусовых качеств, но тем не менее останется питательным. Это относительно того, что на ходу или во время боя наш паек не употребить. Теперь перейдем к советам: - Существует два подхода при разогреве пищи: открыть упаковку перед разогревом, или же наоборот - не открывать и не протыкать. Я приверженец второго способа, так как еда в таком случае лучше прогревается, а о готовности можно узнать по самоотклеиванию крышки. - Как уже написали многие до меня: коробка внутри профольгирована и может использоваться как ведро для воды. Но для этой цели ручки коробки хлипковаты. - Относительно употребления на ходу: некоторые маленькие баночки можно высосать, лишь слегка их приоткрыв. Далее пойдут лайфхаки, которые подойдут не всем: - Можно смешать повидло и яблочное пюре. Тогда смесь не станет приторно сладкой, как само повидло, а пюре станет еще насыщенней по вкусу. - В подливу и жир от тушенки можно накрошить галет. Они тогда впитают в себя упомянутые выше подливу и жир и размякнут. - Колбасный фарш можно пожарить внутри упаковки. - Концентраты можно добавлять в чай вместо сахара. Получается очень даже неплохо. - В разных комплектациях попадается либо бекон, либо шпик. С первым во время службы не сталкивался, а второе очень неплохо перед разогревом добавлять в гуляш, горошек или фасоль с тушняком*. - Можно добавить в рис или гречу кабачковую икру, или овощное рагу из маленьких баночек. Вроде бы все. *Тушняк - консервы с тушеным мясом
Pashtet isn't a self sufficient meal, like a melted cheese. Probably it expected to be put on crackers or bread. That also works for bacon, cheese you have there.

In the USSR, when I studied at a military school, we had to make a march of 50 kilometers without stopping to rest. To maintain strength, we ate rye crackers with sugar on the go and washed down with water from a flask. Such food during the movement gave a lot of energy and strength. I recommend 😁
We do similar stuff in the US marines but with a little more distance and up mountains because of California. 50km is usually a small walk for us but the military has changed so much these days they probably sit around and don’t even leave their rooms 😅 the Russian MRE is perfect for long distance multi day training

Hi Daniel I am sure someone has mentioned this already but I will say it again if not this will help. The US MREs used the same system for heat back in the 80s and 90s and I believe it was used for the C rations before that. It is a tested system and works well.

Пробовал американский паек, тот что с якобы гамбургером, за идею 5, реализация на 2. Крекеры в американском пайке сделаны из песка с клеем и солью. Был ещё питательный батончик, такой рассыпчатый жёлтый прямоугольник, похож на наш брусок халвы.
Тоже пробовал американские MRE, меню 1 или 2, точно уже не помню) чего-то необычного не было, понравилась кукуруза и конфетки - интересный опыт, в общем

Great video. Maybe most stuff taste better hot. For me enough for two days, but maybe there are different MRE's for specific duties. To pre-prepare water heater compound for future use: place limestone rocks in a wood or natural gas fire until the rocks are white all over. After the limestone rocks have cooled break into small size pieces. Carry the crushed limestone in waterproof containers. To use add an equal or less amount of water. A chemical reaction occurs generating heat. Leaving wet lime , which is caustic, and can cause skin irritation. But, in tiny amounts is even added to drinking water and food for taste or calcium. Like in tortillas.
Like the Metro in Moscow and StPetersburg, in Russia they seem to go several extra miles to express love and appreciation for their compatriots, always acknowledging their humanity. In the west everything seems so perfunctory, like it’s something shameful to do something extra for others. You look happy, it’s very heartwarming.

Разогрев горящей таблеткой тоже имеет преимущества в холодное время года. Можно погреть руки над ним и самому немного погреться. Если вы ночуете в палатке зимой, то с осторожностью можно обогреть и палатку. А по поводу вкуса: будешь сильно голодный все покажется в 10 раз вкуснее!)))

There are different types of Military Rations and rations you can buy in stores are more like for tourists. Tourists are usually don't participate in battles and can take meals not on the move =))

I served in the army in 2014 and ate them alot, sadly you got the variant witout the fruit bar it was my favorite :D This one you had is for the whole day type. Hello, Daniel. You and I are almost comrades in arms but I served in the Russian Navy, Project 22160 guided-missile corvette. So glad to see and so interesting to hear your impressions from Russian MRE and its comparison with American. Honestly our crew didn`t like to eat MRE because we had a cook on board who cooked fucking amazing, almost like at home))) But during long-range deployments when we landed on an unequipped shore in order to help our Marines with equipping positions for training maneuvers, we had to eat MRE. In my opinion the number of food is absolutely ok for 1 day, especially during the severe Russian winter when you have to eat twice as much to at least keep warm)) Btw, I was surprised that American MRE has less number of food. Probably this is due to the fact that Americans are fighting mainly in warm countries, where water is first)) But at the same time the technology of ignition in the U.S. MRE looks really combat oriented, very cool!!!👍We need to do something similar especially for stormtroopers when every second matters. In the end of your video you mentioned that there a lot of types of American MRE. In Russia we have 7 types of it, depends on military unit. P.S. Do you know the interesting fact that these matches from Russian MRE burn even during heavy rain??))

Это тебе еще повезло, есть меню со селедкой, она просто ужасная. Атак я понял, что нужно это все есть с крекером и в подогретом виде. Когда мы тушили лесные пожары в Якутии эти пайки сильно нам помогли в глухой тайге, поэтому я считаю, что они скорее для "похода" где нет холодильников и так далее. Я согласен, что они не для марша и боя, скорее как провиант на базе и расчитаны либо на 1 день для 1 человека (завтрак, обед и ужин), либо для троих людей на 1 прием пищи. Спасибо еще раз за видео!)

It perfectly shows the difference between war doctrines. In Russia you either fighting or eat, not both, and MRE's is for the "long runs", where you can't properly cook or get food. The bigger difference in calories, the amount of food is perfect for cold weather and long marches. And yes, russian MRE's got different types, about seven of them. Also, you can use the box for bringing water from nearest river or lake. And yes, heating thingy sucks. Glad you've tried it!

I heard of a guy whose workmate had a distant cousin, whose neighbour didn't like pashtet (pâté). I've had a Russian 24 hour MRE before, extremely high quality, and a mere 3700 kcal.
The American 1 meal is basically capable of feeding us for the entire day to be honest. At least I thought because in war its what we did eat once a day basically I never ate rations outside of war and usually drank a lot of water and ate 1 MRE for day
@Wild Siberia Been down range as well. MREs was not designed as primary meals, but to get GI until the next dfac. Its just Russian military decided to "save costs" (borderline dwelling politics here even in food discussion). MRE as one time meal use may have the same or more calories and frankly it's not like average Joe down range had the time outside of COP to make a nice meal and have the feast of everything on the menu and just graze (as in eating whatever on the go). You won't see those types of "Russian MREs" on the frontline in Ukraine as the common meal (practicality statement) due to.... I am not going to go into politics or war discussion here.

24:00 it's just not combat purpose MRE you are having. We prefer to have "proper food" when possible. But there's many other types for raids and everything that would be more similar to what you are used to.

in the Serbian army, the field meal is very similar to the Russian one, with the difference that we have, as part of the military water bottle, packed cutlery and a dish for reheating food.. I think that the method of heating food is good because fire is very useful in winter conditions, especially in Russia, and don't forget that the field meal was prepared for the Russian army, so the food is logically from Russian cuisine, and it is fattier because of the cold in Russia. . the meal concept was created for the defense army on its own ground 😉 greetings from Serbia🇷🇸🇷🇺

Здравствуйте,Даниил. Наш сухпаек рассчитан как раз на наши условия. Он должен быть сытным и жирным,чтобы в морозы человек мог прожить . Для перекусов там как раз и есть крекеры. И сомневаюсь ,что кто-то думал,что солдат во время боя начнёт есть) Хоть у нас и говорят «война войной,а обед по расписанию»,но не прямо во время стрельбы будут доставать говядину)
У нас в принципе вся еда сытная должна быть,поэтому готовим 1,2,3 и компот.
Очень улыбнуло как Вам не понравился паштет))) Попробуйте его намазать на гренки и сверху положить сливовое варенье-вкус совершено другой)

@@Wild-Siberia I don't know any russian people(does not mean they no exist only for my experience) who will eat pashtet by itselfes. It not what it meant to be. First af all pashtet is made from meat. Sometimes from hepatic(not combined either from meat either from hepatic usually. Yours from meat. I actually do like both(may be from hepatic parts of geese is better, anyway pashtet tastes much much better with a good peace of bread(I prefer white) where you spread it up on it like butter. And with hot sugared tea it is all combine with a very good combination. Most taste for me is in combine. You bite a "buterbrod" (this word russian use for bread with something on it could be butter could be cheese could be bacon) just a little bit chew(like 2-3 seconds) and the sipping a hot sweat tea . And all this mixe in your mouth tastes really good. I won't say that this is crazy but this is tastes good like 8/10 especially if you are hungry and wanna get quick and satisfying snack and you do not have time or wish for cooking a big meal.
I do not say this is the only way, but many people do kinda same. For me every ingredient is important. You throw away either of those and have little to no satisfaction at all. May be without tea it would be still like 5 / 10 but without bread on which you spread it up I understand why you dislike it. May be if you did it right way you would get a better outcome. Without these combinations of cause it could taste strange for anyone(except if people know the trick and used to it so they can handle unconciously).
And just a little observation, after you taste it first of all you wanna eat crackers(kinda bread isn't it?) and then sweat(analogy with tea with sugar). But of course it does not do the job for you cuz very important is mix. Little to more spread pashtet on a bread (so this to goes combined together in the first seccond) then hot sweat tea about to 2-3 seconds after.

Бывает, что солдаты отдают сухпайки гражданским, которые пострадали от войны (такое и сейчас сами знаете где происходит). Тогда пюре из овощей и фруктов можно использовать как детское питание

In Belgium the rations are similar to the Russian ones. We consider that a man cannot do correctly two things at a time: either eat or walk/fight. But if you do both, it is scientifically demonstrated that a human digest better when stopping for its meal. Also, eating is social and this is why you need to have a break.

Коробка из-под пайка может служить как ёмкость для воды - внутри специальный слой. Если вода берётся из водоёма, то для обеззараживания используют те самые таблетки из набора. И ещё: банки с едой следует разогревать, предварительно открыв. Так они лучше разогреваются и меньше вариантов обжечься.

В новых пайках открывать порции не нужно, они сами открываются когда нагреты до нужной температуры, единственно что на морозе или сильном ветре может не открыться - тогда нужно открывать самому.
Привет Дэниэль! У этих пайков есть номера 1-7, по одному на каждый день недели. Содержимое пайка изменяется, чтобы не приедался. Это очень грамотно сделано, так как люди могут быть изолированы долгое время (например месяц).
Очень интересно, у меня было меню 5. Думаю, в будущем я сделаю еще одно подобное видео с другим меню!

@@Wild-Siberia it makes sense why American MRE's have less food,in warm/hot climates the last thing you want is to eat a lot when running around in hot weather,all you need is enough water and some sugar with protein to give you energy. I can't think of a war America fought in a cold climate ever since ww2.It's all middle east/Africa.
In a cold climate even in regular European damp winter if you dont eat properly your body wont be able to keep warm and you will freeze off your fingers,that's why Russian MRE'S are filled with fat,protein and carbs. Also that fat in the food can be used elsewhere,Russian guys now in Ukraine dont even use MRE'S/unless they are stormtroopers, because they get supplied regular flour,grain and potatoes with carrots and cabbage and everything else to make basic army meals so with that fat you bake potatoes on a campfire on an old school carbon steel pan and it tastes amazing- if you go actual Russian style camping you should try,also ash roasted potatoes are amazing,you bury a raw potato with it's skin into an almost dead campfire-best tasting potato in the world.
American military doesn't really fight trench wars,it's more fast paced go in and extract,Russia does mostly trench wars,they move a few km a day taking block after block so yes they start literal camp fires and get supplies to their locations simple things like bags of potato,canned meat and other things.

There are also MRE's with the water-bag heater. There are many types of MRE's in Russia for different situatuons and types of troops. This one is universal and more common.

We also have kits with chemical heating. It depends on the units for which the MRE is created. SOF guys get kits with chemical heating - they have no time to kindle a fire or it's can be dangerous during the mission. Your MRE for the regular army.

@@Wild-Siberia my thoughts would that as Russia is so cold, water would be better conserved as drinking and if you did need water you would have to use one of those cooking bickets anyway to melt the snow to get the water to heat your american MRE. But i'm not military so i could be 100% wrong.

Где Ваша смекалка если вы в машине, БТР, танк, САУ можно нагреть на двигателе во время остановке..... Но во время боя, или выход в тылу противника не до еды будет..... А так во время отдыха, погрел если есть возможность и неплохое паспорте, пока полевая кухня доберётся до тебя или ты до неё.... Всё это специфика армии разных стран мира кухни ..... Честно говоря странно, что паёк на 2-3 раза имеет раздельно рис и гуляш.
Хочу дополнить твой комментарий. В Советской Армии был химический разогрев еды. Наливаешь воды в котелок и бросаешь таблетку - вода кипит, а в ней разогреваешь консервы. Это удобно, особенно ночью т.к. нет пламени. Но от этого способа почему-то отказались, наверно были причины. Ну и сам знаешь во время боя - не до еды, если перерыв короткий, то все продукты можно съесть и холодными, они по вкусу тоже неплохие. А во время передышки (ночью) можно поесть по-настоящему.

Я служил в армии Белорусии. Там с сухпайком всё более просто. Есть 3 банка тушенки, 3 банки каши, 3 упаковки крекеров (сухого хлеба), немного шоколада и конфет, чай и сахар. Но есть один очень важный коммерческий ньюанс. Сухпай собран из компонентов исключительно государственных предприятий. Ни каких частных компаний.

Each new video of yours, Daniel, is filled with positive. I watch you with a smile on my face. It was interesting to watch the tasting of MRE rations, I would like to comment on some points, as a person who has eaten more than a dozen of such MREs :)
The 3 small tablets that you found are a powerful water disinfectant, one tablet is enough for about 1 liter of water. One big one is a multivitamin complex.
Russian MREs are equipped with our harsh climate in mind, so some of the products in it seemed too fatty to you. As a rule, we always drained excess fat in field conditions when it was warm, but in the heat it is simply necessary to do this, because serious stomach problems can arise. In the cold, fat helps to keep the soldier warm and energy. Even in military units in the winter, we were always given pieces of lard for lunch.
I was very worried about you, watching how you tried pate (pashtet) :) this dish has been common in Russia since the times of the Russian Empire (as a delicacy, whose homeland is France) and the USSR (when it became widely available). As I understand it, in the USA you practically do not eat animal liver and products prepared on its basis. In our country, these products are quite popular due to the high content of trace elements and vitamins in it and the relatively low price. In general, in the USSR, almost all offal was used in the slaughter of animals. For example, one of the favorite types of delicacies of Soviet children was hematogen bars made on the basis of cows' blood and sugar, by the way, they are really very tasty and are still sold everywhere in pharmacies.
We used to mix MRE main dishes before reheating and add a small amount of water to them, then the porridges are heated more evenly and do not burn. We used stewed beef as an additive to these porridges or for making soup in pots.
When you talked about the trade and exchange of sweets, I immediately remembered the beginning of my service, when we were just obsessed with candies and sweets :))) We had the most desired sweetness - condensed milk with sugar in metal cans :)))
Matches in MRE are very good for starting fires in wet weather, they do not die out even after being immersed in water for a few seconds. We usually threw away the MRE packaging after opening, because it took up too much space in backpacks due to its shape, or was used to carry water.
This particular type of MRE is really very satisfying, I, like many of my colleagues, stretched it out for a couple of days. It has 7 different options that differ in main dishes. Also in our army and law enforcement agencies there is MRE for 1 meal, reinforced with a large number of meals and snacks and with chemical warmers.
However, there is one dish in our MPE that practically no one ever uses for its intended purpose - this is salted pork fat (svinoy sсhpik). It causes a persistent feeling of disgust in everyone because of its taste.

Там все продуманно на 100%

Таблеток для обеззараживания раньше клали 6-8 штук, но русские солдаты пользуются ими очень редко или не пользуются вообще, возможно в крайнем случае только. Когда я служил в армии, ни кто ими не пользовался т.к. вода была всегда чистая, а воду из реки всё равно нужно кипятить. Армейские пайки даже сейчас вспоминаю, при всей их простоте это вкусно, тому кому такая еда не нравится, скорее всего избалован. Мне в нашем пайке не нравится посуда, ужасный чай и кофе, всё остальное очень вкусное. Сама коробка для пайка биоразлагаемая, но так же может использоваться в качестве ведра для переноски воды если её открывать правильно. Российский сухой паёк является одним из лучших по соотношению цена\качество\количество
Мне было забавно видеть, как некоторые блюда не понравились и это нормально, я бы например тоже не смог съесть острую пищу или что то иное. например в некоторые иностранные пайки кладут жуков или блюда из личинок, я бы такое не смог есть))
Ты не правильно зажигал огонь, спичку нужно просто класть на сухое топливо, за счёт температуры всё загорится
Крышки на продуктах нужно немного открывать в области язычка для открывания , тогда еда будет лучше разогреваться и ты не обожжёшь руки когда будешь открывать
Твой паёк был для полигона, поэтому в нём таганок и сухое топливо, есть пайки для полевых выходов в них современные беспламенные грелки, так же такие пайки использует Российский спецназ и специальные подразделения Российской армии. Данный вид пайка из видео предназначен для учений Российской армии в более простых условиях , чем боевые действия, для боевых действий есть пайки с другим типом грелок.
Разогреватель из этого пайка можно использовать так же для обогрева палатки, он очень хорошо греет небольшую палатку до такой степени, что в ней становится даже жарко, как экстренное средство согревания очень подходит
В Российских сухих пайках гораздо меньше химии, чем в Иностранных, поэтому у них не всегда такой вкус, который ты ждёшь, но для Российских солдат еда вкусная, это более привычно нам

I haven't had to eat an MRE since the 90s when I was in the army. However as you talk about the differences in the food that could also relate to what you touched upon, the fact that US military MRE is eat on the go says there's a difference in fighting styles. Also you touched upon the higher sugar content in the US MREs as opposed to fat content in Russian MREs. This is a truth that has been discovered by people who eat KETO or Carnivore...the higher the fat content the less hungry you are. The higher the sugar content the more frequently you require food. So not only could the type of MREs be attributed to fighting styles, but also to the lack of need to eat and when they do it's more than enough to last for maybe a day or two if they don't have to eat. I think it would be interesting to find out if Russians even carry MREs with them other than the ones they already opened. Perhaps it's as you say that meal is for two days.

I would also rarely need more food but Id take 2 if I needed to do night patrols of course. I must agree I doubt Russians are carrying the food on patrols and or different battles they fight their wars different than us we were unconventional and they are currently doing conventional conflict!

Like the idea of the American mre heating packs that you can put in your pack while doing combat missions. Unfortunately there is little chance to do patrol missions in the current conflict. Soviets in 50s&60s also had like USA chemical heating system,when you drop a pill in water and it starts to boil,but they took them off production,some Russian MRE still have that system too,but they are not state made,official army ones

Что касается жира: при отрицательных температурах - жирная пища зайдет отлично. В условиях жары она действительно кажется тяжелой. По себе замечаю, что зимой хочется сала, жирной еды, а летом - зелень, фрукты, организму не требуется много энергии для поддержания температурного режима.

Какая зима какая жара? Жир=калории а без калорий ты немошным становишся очень быстро, одному богу известно в каких передрягах ты попадешься на войне и на какой срок, и без жирной еды ты по просту долго не протянешь все же логично и понятно как ясный день. На войне люди в окопах примерно пару недель лежат до ротации, и там где идут периодически бои основном эти сухпайки и кушают, по вашему без жирной еды солдат с таким скромным пайком сколько протянет в окопе где периодически обстреливается? А вода это ценный ресурс даже ценнее чем еда и не логично было бы его тратит на подогрев пайка. Пайки с водонагревателем предназначены для спецподразделений у которых задачи совсем иные. Или же для выполнения спецзаданий такие пайки выдаются. А окопному бойцу такой сухпаек только в минус это лишняя трата воды)))
А вот галеты в сух пайках я бы с удовольствием заменил на обычные сухари !
I'm assuming those tablets for the fire are actually to be used on a mess kit, I think that is something that is carried by Russian troops that isn't today in the US. The Russian mess kits are a multi piece metal pot with pan. I have used kits like that with fuel tablets or some alcohol stoves before, not sure how Russian troops are taught to do it, but a great method is digging a small hole and setting the stove/fuel bit down in it to eliminate wind, then you put your cooking pot/pan on top and can add a variety of food together to make a kind of stew. You can then also boil water for hot coffee this way with the tablet as well.

@@Wild-Siberia Worth mentioning too that while it's a little more inconvenient to cook / boil water this way, you waste very little. With the American MRE you waste the water used for heating, and that water can be a valuable commodity depending on how bad of a situation you are in.
Plus when you have a mess kit you can always heat food/water without the tablets and use any type of kindling. All you need is fire. The Russians like to keep it simple.
It's very funny how you react to the taste of the pate.. It's all because you are used to eating spicier food since childhood, in Russia they almost don't eat spicy food, so it will seem tasteless to you.

Totally true - one day, after a hike in the mountains in heavy snowstorm, we made it to a chalet and had a hot cocoa. I was probably an ordinary mixture of hot milk and cheap instant cocoa, but back there and then, it tasted like God's food, we savored every single sip of it! 🙂
Same applies to simple canned pork - almost a dog food in the valley, but a culinary miracle after hours of hiking in the mountains!

USA fights a lot of insurgencies where there are no well defined contact lines so meals need to be as quick and efficient. while Russia fights in large wars with defined borders so they can afford to sit down for a hearty meal not only for energy but for comfort as well? As a complete lay person, I feel the meals are based on completely different philosophies.
Yes it’s got to play a role for sure how the militaries fight wars and where they fight them! such a cool thought to think that it affected the way they make their foods
There are many MRE in Russia and many of them have flameless heaters. But specifically, these are just for eating them in a trench or during exercises. In other words, in my opinion, it would be great if these MREs had such a heater too. But this will not happen, since according to the plan, the soldiers should have a kitchen. That is, this MRE is opened when there is simply no access to the kitchen.

Danny, I believe those smaller pills are water purification tablets to disinfect contaminated water. The larger one may be a vitamin pill. Goulash is a sort of meat stew, I think. The one meat thing you made a face to looks like a liver pate (which Senia likes), and it does need an acquired taste. The Canadian MRE (called IMP: Individual Meal Pack) is like to the USA MRE, it also has heating elements, just add water, and is meant for on the go too. Ours is also more eco-friendly as the plastic bags can be burned for disposal, no metal containers to clutter up the place. That meal is a full day's meal for hard working, perhaps 3500 kcal, perhaps for cold weather activities. We used to do a controlled burn in our village when I was a kid (back in the 1960's) and everything came up rich and green. I like the old ways.

Food in metal containers is intended for heating with alcohol tablets, which are included in the kit. These are large white tablets. You burn the pill with a match and put an already open container on the fire. Thus, the soldier receives normal hot food.
Strangely enough, these metal containers are perfectly burned in a bonfire

Понимаю, что опоздал, но тем не менее дам пояснение и несколько советов.
Наш паек рассчитан на сутки, наполненные физическими нагрузками, это одна из причин большого количества жира и соли в рационе. Вторая причина - суровые климатические условия. Также такой паек обычно выдается во время перемещений, пока нет условий для установки полевой кухни, и как рацион на случай перебоев с поставкой горячей пищи. Или же во время боевых выходов. Паек можно вполне себе есть и холодным. Да, он потеряет часть своих вкусовых качеств, но тем не менее останется питательным. Это относительно того, что на ходу или во время боя наш паек не употребить.
Теперь перейдем к советам:
- Существует два подхода при разогреве пищи: открыть упаковку перед разогревом, или же наоборот - не открывать и не протыкать. Я приверженец второго способа, так как еда в таком случае лучше прогревается, а о готовности можно узнать по самоотклеиванию крышки.
- Как уже написали многие до меня: коробка внутри профольгирована и может использоваться как ведро для воды. Но для этой цели ручки коробки хлипковаты.
- Относительно употребления на ходу: некоторые маленькие баночки можно высосать, лишь слегка их приоткрыв.
Далее пойдут лайфхаки, которые подойдут не всем:
- Можно смешать повидло и яблочное пюре. Тогда смесь не станет приторно сладкой, как само повидло, а пюре станет еще насыщенней по вкусу.
- В подливу и жир от тушенки можно накрошить галет. Они тогда впитают в себя упомянутые выше подливу и жир и размякнут.
- Колбасный фарш можно пожарить внутри упаковки.
- Концентраты можно добавлять в чай вместо сахара. Получается очень даже неплохо.
- В разных комплектациях попадается либо бекон, либо шпик. С первым во время службы не сталкивался, а второе очень неплохо перед разогревом добавлять в гуляш, горошек или фасоль с тушняком*.
- Можно добавить в рис или гречу кабачковую икру, или овощное рагу из маленьких баночек.
Вроде бы все.
*Тушняк - консервы с тушеным мясом

Probably it expected to be put on crackers or bread.

In the USSR, when I studied at a military school, we had to make a march of 50 kilometers without stopping to rest. To maintain strength, we ate rye crackers with sugar on the go and washed down with water from a flask. Such food during the movement gave a lot of energy and strength. I recommend 😁
We do similar stuff in the US marines but with a little more distance and up mountains because of California. 50km is usually a small walk for
us but the military has changed so much these days they probably sit around and don’t even leave their rooms 😅

@@Wild-Siberia, Yes, this ration is high in calories. As for the training of the current armed forces of different countries, I completely agree. They've all become lazy 😁 The only one who is still being chased by those old methods of training is the special forces. As with us, so do you.
Hi Daniel I am sure someone has mentioned this already but I will say it again if not this will help. The US MREs used the same system for heat back in the 80s and 90s and I believe it was used for the C rations before that. It is a tested system and works well.

Пробовал американский паек, тот что с якобы гамбургером, за идею 5, реализация на 2. Крекеры в американском пайке сделаны из песка с клеем и солью. Был ещё питательный батончик, такой рассыпчатый жёлтый прямоугольник, похож на наш брусок халвы.
Тоже пробовал американские MRE, меню 1 или 2, точно уже не помню) чего-то необычного не было, понравилась кукуруза и конфетки - интересный опыт, в общем

Great video. Maybe most stuff taste better hot. For me enough for two days, but maybe there are different MRE's for specific duties.
To pre-prepare water heater compound for future use: place limestone rocks in a wood or natural gas fire until the rocks are white all over. After the limestone rocks have cooled break into small size pieces. Carry the crushed limestone in waterproof containers. To use add an equal or less amount of water. A chemical reaction occurs generating heat. Leaving wet lime , which is caustic, and can cause skin irritation.
But, in tiny amounts is even added to drinking water and food for taste or calcium. Like in tortillas.
Im sure that everything taste better how so I think ill remake a video with a different menu and just cook things over a fire I make myself👍🏻
Like the Metro in Moscow and StPetersburg, in Russia they seem to go several extra miles to express love and appreciation for their compatriots, always acknowledging their humanity. In the west everything seems so perfunctory, like it’s something shameful to do something extra for others. You look happy, it’s very heartwarming.

Думаю, что такой жирный и обильный рацион рассчитан на холодный климат. Кто-то уже высказывал подобную мысль в комментариях, повторюсь.
Разогрев горящей таблеткой тоже имеет преимущества в холодное время года. Можно погреть руки над ним и самому немного погреться. Если вы ночуете в палатке зимой, то с осторожностью можно обогреть и палатку.
А по поводу вкуса: будешь сильно голодный все покажется в 10 раз вкуснее!)))
Да, я многократный ветеран войны в турне и понимаю, как голод сделает все вкусным. Мне действительно понравилось снимать это видео, в будущем я попробую другое меню!

There are different types of Military Rations and rations you can buy in stores are more like for tourists. Tourists are usually don't participate in battles and can take meals not on the move =))

I served in the army in 2014 and ate them alot, sadly you got the variant witout the fruit bar it was my favorite :D This one you had is for the whole day type. Next time setting the tablet on fire place it at an angle of about 30 degrees it will be much easier.

Справедливости ради, эта банка была просрочена на полгода, потому что я оставил её последней, чтобы разогреть на природе, но она пролежала больше года, а в итоге я съел её дома.

Hello, Daniel. You and I are almost comrades in arms but I served in the Russian Navy, Project 22160 guided-missile corvette. So glad to see and so interesting to hear your impressions from Russian MRE and its comparison with American. Honestly our crew didn`t like to eat MRE because we had a cook on board who cooked fucking amazing, almost like at home))) But during long-range deployments when we landed on an unequipped shore in order to help our Marines with equipping positions for training maneuvers, we had to eat MRE. In my opinion the number of food is absolutely ok for 1 day, especially during the severe Russian winter when you have to eat twice as much to at least keep warm)) Btw, I was surprised that American MRE has less number of food. Probably this is due to the fact that Americans are fighting mainly in warm countries, where water is first)) But at the same time the technology of ignition in the U.S. MRE looks really combat oriented, very cool!!!👍We need to do something similar especially for stormtroopers when every second matters. In the end of your video you mentioned that there a lot of types of American MRE. In Russia we have 7 types of it, depends on military unit.
P.S. Do you know the interesting fact that these matches from Russian MRE burn even during heavy rain??))
I noticed the matches were special when I saw them. I will do another Russian MRE in the future and share all the knowledge I previously learned from comments like yours. I was a storm trooper basically in the 3 times. I was In war and Russian comments say "WHO EATS WHILE FIGHTING!?" And the truth is we did all the time. Thanks for the awesome comment!

@@ruspatriot6787 I’m a warrior not a politician brother. I believe they are elite units at par in strategic infantry fighting as any western military. Their small units attacks are what Russian military should adopt. Small low level leadership is more important than high ranking officer leadership.

По началу я ненавидел есть эти пайки, но когда разобрался в меню и наборах я быстро научился отсеивать не вкусные продукты. Это тебе еще повезло, есть меню со селедкой, она просто ужасная. Атак я понял, что нужно это все есть с крекером и в подогретом виде. Когда мы тушили лесные пожары в Якутии эти пайки сильно нам помогли в глухой тайге, поэтому я считаю, что они скорее для "похода" где нет холодильников и так далее. Я согласен, что они не для марша и боя, скорее как провиант на базе и расчитаны либо на 1 день для 1 человека (завтрак, обед и ужин), либо для троих людей на 1 прием пищи.

It perfectly shows the difference between war doctrines. In Russia you either fighting or eat, not both, and MRE's is for the "long runs", where you can't properly cook or get food. The bigger difference in calories, the amount of food is perfect for cold weather and long marches. And yes, russian MRE's got different types, about seven of them. Also, you can use the box for bringing water from nearest river or lake. And yes, heating thingy sucks.

The American 1 meal is basically capable of feeding us for the entire day to be honest. At least I thought because in war its what we did eat once a day basically I never ate rations outside of war and usually drank a lot of water and ate 1 MRE for day
@Wild Siberia Been down range as well. MREs was not designed as primary meals, but to get GI until the next dfac. Its just Russian military decided to "save costs" (borderline dwelling politics here even in food discussion). MRE as one time meal use may have the same or more calories and frankly it's not like average Joe down range had the time outside of COP to make a nice meal and have the feast of everything on the menu and just graze (as in eating whatever on the go). You won't see those types of "Russian MREs" on the frontline in Ukraine as the common meal (practicality statement) due to.... I am not going to go into politics or war discussion here.

24:00 it's just not combat purpose MRE you are having. We prefer to have "proper food" when possible. But there's many other types for raids and everything that would be more similar to what you are used to.
I will look for a more combat style MRE for sure thanks for your information over all this MRE is very good for long operations and I love how much food it has for 24 hours which actually can last for 72 Hours

Reminds me of an Italian MRE. But the Italian MRE had its breakfast, lunch, and dinner boxed in one. Wine and Liquor were also included.
Bro can you imagine they gave us these styles with so many meals lol it's crazy. This is like for 2 days at least for a typical marine even in afghan we didnt eat much. Super cool
