There are cheaper courses available too and getting F1 visa is not much of an hassle. But F1 visa is designed in such a way that it will force the students to come to US funded with their living expenses as well, not just the tution fee. Upon it if you are not able to find a job you will have no choice but to leave US unless you are married for Green card. It's specifically designed for Ace academic scorers. Which shifts an average Indian student to other countries.

Jamshed, working and studying at the same time does not work out well in the end. For a little bit of experience or just to earn small pocket money etc, it is ok to work. But overall, it is better to go when you can either get financial aid or scholarship since you can then focus on the academics and classes, and try to get a good job at the end of it all.

What is a definite path to study abroad? I am studying in 11th phy/chem/maths in mumbai. I don't have any great district/state/national achievements. Academically I scored a 9.6/10 cgpa in 10th std. I have heard that these universities merely does not give admission based on the SAT score, and give a lot of weightage to extracurricular activites and external olympiad exams (although I have a bronze in SOF IMO class rank 3) which I did not pay attention to. So the big question is how are my chances in top universities like MIT, Harvard, UCLA, etc. If I do not have a good chance in these universities except for bringing a great SAT score, then I might think to stay back in India and completing my undergrad in engineering back at home. Can anyone please help me with a step-by-step format like researching, preparation, expectation, selection, fees, admission, etc related information. I have not started the preparation yet but I am looking forward to do so as early as I get to know a definite path.

The website for all the legalities that ISSS should look at are found at www.ice.gov/sevis/employment under the F1 - International Intern tab. Keep in mind that these positions may not be available all over the US, they are mostly around New York and Washington DC.
