I remember once I had to walk 4 miles with no toilet. By the time I got to the 3rd mile I was in horrendous discomfort and bowel pain and was hunched over. I eventually had to find a bush. Now that was just me suffering a badly timed bit of a stomach bug, I don't have Crohns. Years later, when I heard about this disease, I thought _Wow, imagine going through what I went through, but 1000 times worse _*_and_*_ you go through it your entire life!_ and I can't even really fathom it. Must take some real willpower!
I have ulcerative colitis and I know the feeling, the pain and the anxiety is the worst, plus it’s a Catch-22 situation because you’re stressed about having an accident but then you have an accident because of the stress anyway you just can’t win
I don't have Crohn's but I do have IBS and I know all too well the AGONY of being miles away from a toilet when you desperately have to go. Glad this is handled with the proper sensitivity.
Having been diagnosed with Crohn’s since I was 13 I’ve lost count of how many experiences it’s ruined for me. The inflammation, debilitating fatigue and mental health impact, the loneliness and struggle of hospital visits and social secrets wasn’t shown but at least this partial experience was, and that’s great. Robyn’s experience wrecked me. I’ve been in this situation and I felt so seen. The pain can be terrible. I’m sorry for all you other Crohnies out there, there are better days. Take good care of yourselves and hopefully healthier times will come. You’re not alone. None of us are.
The struggle of having relationships as well I’m always scared to tell someone in a dating aspect that I have this condition in fear that they will run off, people just think ‘ew you shit yourself that’s gross’
I've had Crohns since I was in my early 20s. I had to take time off from college because of it. I was patronized by doctors before my diagnosis even being patted on the knee and dismissed by more than one of them before the colonoscopy that revealed what I already knew. I've since had Autoimmune Encephalitis but I got my two degrees, damn it, and yet we live in a world in which we don't grasp the fact that we don't always see the disability or pain of others. Disability can look like her. And Crohns, like many autoimmune conditions, does tend to flare up under times of stress.
The acting was so good I guessed that it was Crohns before the reveal. A lot of stuff is portrayed in this show really bluntly and that, coupled with the great acting, makes it such a good show.
I have IBS and can relate totally here. The worst thing is people at work don't understand and think that I'm lazy because I have to go to the toilet several times a day!
All of us Crohn’s sufferers know this situation. Happened in an elevator to me, thank God I was the only one there and that the elevator was in my apartment building.
This video randomly popping up on my social media is what is helping me currently get diagnosed after suffering with an unknown condition for 3 years. This is why representation matters - I could still be struggling with my doctors not knowing why if this hadn’t randomly popped up.
That's awful, I'm so sorry to hear that. I'd no idea you could die from Crohns, I thought it just caused some incontinence issues, like a worse version of IBS, but this helped educate me to what a friend of mine faces. Sorry again for your loss 😢
Thankyou, ive had for 35 years now, im better now than i have been in years. As treatments have improved. After about 25 surgeries, im finally at a good place most of the time
Brilliantly scripted, filmed and foremost acted. As someone with similar conditions I am fully aware how life changing these can be. All sympathetic and accurate portrayals of these 'invisible ' conditions should be applauded. It is often a major battle to keep the conditions invisible but the downside of winning that battle is that there is then little public knowledge of hidden illnesses. The other major point from this scene is that not everyone has a sympathetic and understanding friend or boss. These conditions can be horrific to live with
I have ulcerative colitis, which is a form of IBD as is Crohn’s disease and I can tell you now it’s absolute hell to live with especially when you’re in a flareup you never know when it’s gonna happen and the anxiety is worse because for me is what causes me to flare up in the first place, so it’s a catch 22 situation, I have the bowel function of a 90-year-old and have to wear padding in my underwear just in case which does help me but I shouldn’t have to do something like that when I’m 30 years old, I’ve been living with it since I was 15
Have a friend with Crohns and we use to work together he was always in the worst pain to the point he would self medicate with weed sometimes just to eat. He’d often go hide in areas of the store to sleep cause the flare ups would be bad.
i loved this! i have crohns disease and make videos on it, but will also be making a video on what i thought of this episode/representation as someone with crohns! 💖
Who is the actress here? Vastly impressed I think this is a superb and sympathetic performance. Thank you to everyone involved in this scene I applaud you all.
aw man, I have ulcerative colitis and this is honestly the nightmare scenario. Hasn't happened yet, thankfully (admittedly because I refuse to go anywhere I don't know the bathroom situation of tbh), but oof I feel like it's inevitable :/
For anyone who doesn't know about CROHN'S which I don't have, but only discovered about it in another movie & it was explained as follows - ITS LIKE THE LINING OF YOUR GUT IS ALL MESSED UP AND MAKES YOU SHIT ALL THE TIME..
I'm not really a massive fan of the representation here. I can't speak for anyone else but myself mind, but it came across like the biggest problem of crohns was really needing to go the toilet, rather than the horrendous pain. Not that i want to see that. But i dont think this did well at selling the real difficulty of having the disease other than the risk of self defication - the disease is much worse than that
I initially thought the same as you--especially since my symptoms were ignored to the point I needed emergency surgery because I didn't have toilet issues. But Robyn is clearly in a lot of pain here, too, and representation has to start somewhere. Hopefully S2 will show a wider array of symptoms--fatigue, joint pain etc. I'm just glad she wasn't the butt of the joke
D.E.W. .... THIS POOR WOMAN IS UNDER STRESS. THAT ADDS TO THE BURDEN OF COHNS DIS EASE. MY HEART GOES OUT TO MEN AND WOMAN THAT SUF FER. I HAVE A FRIEND THAT SUFFERS WITH THIS DISEASE. MEDICINES ARE NEEDED TO STOP PROBLEMS WITHOUT ACCIDENTS. THERE ARE PEOP PLETHAT HAS OTHER DISEASES SIMILAR TO CROHNS. THEY NEED SPECIAL CONSIDER ATION. THEY NEED MEDICINE TO BRING THESE DISEASES UNDER CONTROL SO THEY CAN LIVE NORMAL LIVES WITHOUT FLARE UPS AND ACCIDENTS. A SYMPATHIC VIEWER.
@@jerrydtuff There are many treatments out there but each person responds differently to each treatment, so it can take years to find the one and the dose that works for you. Steroids DO work but they turn you into an angry monster.
I have Crohn's and can tell you the pain you feel in this situation is absolutely horrendous. Unbearable.

Wow, this is almost retraumatizing. IBS sufferers experience the same. And it's quite literally traumatic to go through. Can affect you for years.
I don't have Crohn's but I do have IBS and I know all too well the AGONY of being miles away from a toilet when you desperately have to go. Glad this is handled with the proper sensitivity.

Honestly that feeling of just letting it all go in your pants in public because of the lack of access is so debilitating she did an amazing job ❤
Even the red face and shakiness was brilliant as well

Every day, multiple times. It's not even distressing anymore, just frustrating
omg this is exactly how it happens, down to the facial expressions and everything, this actor must have had it before.
