    This model will be my first ever custom build, and what a way to start off my moc building journey. Jerac has created some of the most amazing models I have ever seen. I’m now just waiting for my parts to be delivered! Wow, you are not kidding! Those flat silver 18mm wheels are just sold out for the most part. I guess I'm lucky that I got a few for some vehicle projects, but ended up getting some in the 2018 X-Wing. It's subtle, but that color as opposed to LBG is a nice "burned" look. It's a shame they do not come in DBG. There seems to be no alternative. Maybe the barrel pieces? For that you'd need to reverse the engine exhaust so the studs face away from the ship.

    • @brickcats
      @brickcats  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The barrels could work with minimal modification, downside there is that they are the same diameter as the rest of that section while the wheels offer a little bit of extra width. There is probably some other wheel that would work since LEGO makes hundreds of them, but I haven’t looked too closely. The specified flat silver is definitely the best it’s just too bad it’s not available.

    Great video like always. You should consider doing a comparison between this model and fukusaku's one.

    • @brickcats
      @brickcats  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought for a long time how I would do comparison videos but in the end decided against doing them. I try to review each model without drawing too many other comparisons to similar models by other designers (revisions of existing models by the same designer, such as this one, being an exception for obvious reasons). In the vast majority of cases anything I review will be worth building. Instead of direct comparison videos I committed to focus my time and effort on making the reviews, which are already quite time consuming, more useful or easier to watch (quiet music to make it less boring, pricing info up front, etc). Hope this adequately explains the "why" and I haven't ruled it out for the future, but right now this is my line of thinking.

    • @mojo_jojo3000
      @mojo_jojo3000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brickcats not trying to push you for an in depth comparison but when I want to decide which x-wing I should build for displaying purposes would your recommend this one or Fukusakus? Price does matter somewhat as I saw I could get the parts for Fukusakus for around 100€. I also like the nose better but the rest of the front section seems to be a little bit sleeker on jeracs model.

    • @brickcats
      @brickcats  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mojo_jojo3000 I have good news and bad news. The good news is that they are both amazing models. The bad news is that doesn't help people make a decision! Some factors worth considering: If you want the grey look go with Jerac, as Fukusaku's is specified in white. If you want a grey/blue version you should go with Jerac as well, as Fukusaku's only comes with instructions for white/red (although if you simply replace all the red pieces with "blue" in Bricklink that will work). I don't have a basis for comparison in UK prices but the instructions for Fukusaku are cheaper than Brick Vault's. Strictly from a pricing standpoint my guess is that Fukusaku's would come out to be less expensive.
      I hope this helps, sorry I can't be more definitive.

    I had to add a 1x1 round technic spacer piece in the s foil mechanism because one of my gears that operates the corkscrew would get pushed out of alignment during normal operation of the mechanism, resulting in two of the wings becoming unresponsive to the mechanism. The spacer eliminates the possibility of the gear going out of alignment and the system works great for me now.

    • @brickcats
      @brickcats  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s a great idea! I wonder if that’s the issue with mine. It would explain why the S-foils only open partially if the worm gear is slipping.

    • @pete7615
      @pete7615 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brickcats yep I’m assuming that’s what happened. It’s obvious what the issue is once you take it apart and look at the mechanism in action.

    Funny you mentioned the S-foils on your X-wing having trouble opening and closing. I just built the same model and I have the same issue. I think it might be some internal friction going on with the bricks surrounding the s-foil mechanism.

    • @brickcats
      @brickcats  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It very well could be. Also it might be that these wings are significantly beefier than on the T-70, not sure.

      Yeah I have the same issue. There’s enough friction in general that it stays open, but it does happen. I remember jerac mentioning somewhere this is a “floating” mechanism? Dunno if that means anything. It’s not a big deal, but I noticed too!

    Would the nose sag over time if displayed in attack mode on a display stand? You mentioned that it’s not locked in and it seems likely that it could? How has it been since you made this video?

    • @brickcats
      @brickcats  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I am not exactly sure what you're referring to. The nose cone is in place pretty solidly. Which part of the review are you referring to?
      Overall it has held up very well in the year since I made this review, but once I'm clear on which sections you're referring to I will be more than glad to be more specific!

    • @Lester_DorEes
      @Lester_DorEes ปีที่แล้ว

      Starts at 25:40. I was comparing this to the first version and found that the whole nose section used to be held by two brick stacks, but if not mistaken it’s now a single stack of bricks holding the entire nose assembly to the rest of the fuselage. I think Jerac did this to have a more aesthetically pleasing (and accurate) red stripe vs the old version but I suspect at the cost of stability of the nose connection to the rest of the body.

    • @Lester_DorEes
      @Lester_DorEes ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically the bit that is just under and behind the cockpit. Lol sorry hard to explain hopefully that made sense. Sounds like after a year it still looks good so probably not an issue! 😂 I aready bought version 2 but might modify version one to make the stripe nice and straight as well!

    • @brickcats
      @brickcats  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Lester_DorEes Ah yes now I remember this section and what I was showing, thanks for the time stamp. The short answer is that no, there's no noticeable sagging on mine in the year+ I've had it on the shelf. The nose is well supported and not very heavy to begin with, what I was showing there was that (as you state) the connection is a little different than version 1 and thus flexes a little bit more if you really try to.
