I live in South America, the Amazon rainforest runs right through Guyana, I have indigenous friends who do tours and take foreigners around planned sights. My best fiend acts as a guide sometimes and he’s told me that I should always respect the rainforest, that it has the ability to swallow you up and make you a mystery just like everything in it. In Guyana it’s called the land of giants. And believe me when I say everything is big here. So when he would see jaguars and birds, even insects, they are absolutely huge. His family would say that everything in the jungle has a spirit and if you respect them, they will respect you.
I don't know about ancient structures, but having lived in Amazonas on the Orinoco, I can confirm that the jungle will absolutely devour buildings so that you'd never know they were there from the air after just 30 years or so.

Listening to Graham Hancock has inspired me to try and make my own Terra Preta, even though it won't be perfect. For anyone interested, I'm using the following ingredients: - Peat-free natural soil - Biochar - 30 parts carbon waste (shredded cardboard) to 1 part nitrogen waste (banana peel, orange peel, and apple core) - Chicken, lamb, and cuttlefish bones - Cow feces - Clay granules I'm currently in the process of mixing these ingredients together. After mixing, I plan to water it and keep it moist for a year without planting anything to allow it to mature and decompose. It already has that fresh countryside smell that shop-bought enriched soils don't have. Thank you, Graham, for the inspiration!

I feel like this is not the first person I've heard of this happening to whenever they did something really cool like this. I would say that Graham is my favourite (non-comedian) guest that comes on the show. Such incredibly fascinating conversations him and Joe have. I think it is also helped greatly by Joe who is so in to the discussion (as well as you) that he asks the questions you would ask as someone who is curious about Graham and his work. A great example of Joe's success. He just lets the guest talk, nudges them when they need direction for productions reasons, but lets them talk. He asks the questions that pop up in his mind, but never interrupts. I hope the people teaching journalism these days are including this.

I saw him talk live in Montreal less than 2 weeks after this podcast. I've been a fan of Grahams work for about 7 years (I'm 31 now). The live lecture was excellent, this is a true explorer of truth and one of the most open minded and sincere human beings I've come across. He mentioned in the talk that he would be available to every single person who wished to meet him after the lecture, even if it took until dawn (the lecture was from 7--9pm). Well Mister Hancock kept his word, I waited an hour and a half in line with my buddy to speak with him afterward, and he gave each and every person his sincere attention. It was an absolute treat and lifetime memory to speak with Graham and he signed my book and took a photo, the line was another hour and a half behind me and it was already 1030pm. I'd imagine he stayed until nearly 1230am with Santha his wife to meet everyone, and this man is 70 years old!!! It was amazing nearly 300 of the 500 or so people stayed to speak with Graham, and he's touring many cities... Thank you Graham, for your generosity, time, and relentless effort in seeking the truth and exploring the frontiers of mind and planet. You've changed my views on not just the mainstream historical narrative, but also led me on a path of truth and knowledge seeking and changed the way I see the world, for the better. kudos to you and Santha, Graham is the real fucking deal!

I always love listening to Graham Hancock talking about Ancient sites. He always describes his findings such as, those of the Amazon Jungle in great detail as he does in his books, especially the last book which I have "America Before" Thank you Graham for sharing your brilliant knowledge and, thank you Joe Rogan for bringing Graham to your programme.
The most shocking thing to me is that the Amazon is not the natural wonder it's always been portrayed as....it's a garden that went out of control after the people tending it died out.

In all honesty, as a person who’s watched joe dmt Rogan since I was 16 and am now 18 I’ll personally say one of the saddest things that has happened to my youth is the idea or mentality that learning is boring or a chore. People much rather fill their day with selfies and timelessly rummaging through Instagram or Facebook than to sit here and learn. I think learning is so fascinating, put it this way, I think about thinks graham says months after I watch the video, instagram posts don’t even stay in my head past a couple hours. I wish my generation would stop focusing on all the stupid shit and stop being a set of followers and just sit there and enjoy learning. With my girlfriend for example she hates this shit, and she tells me how at school everyone hates this girl in class because “she always has something to say” as in something to add to the topic. And it’s like wow no one appreciates the fact that that girl might be so intelligent that she knows a little of each topic being spoken

I own a drone sensing business and we run LIDAR as our primary product now. It actually stands for Light Detection and Ranging, and with enough relatively cheap drones (~100k per team) you could cover alot of that rainforest at a relatively very low cost... definitely something to think about

There are a number of qualified archaeologists on TH-cam who strip Hancocks ideas to pieces in layman's terms and with peer reviewed hard evidence. He's a best selling author of fiction and though fun he's not to be taken seriously. Whatever scientists are finding in the Amazon is really cool but nothing to do with Hancock as he's just using it to give his silly ideas of advanced pre ice age civilisation some credence.

Remember archeology is barely a science when there’s so much interpretation and speculation involved. Egyptologists are the prime example of biased preconceptions influencing the study of Egyptian history rather than any hard evidence.
A bit of research on some of his stuff highlights a considerable amount of questionable stuff he's said. Take everything he says with a healthy dose of skepticism, as you should with everything, but he's a pretty interesting person

Just some things to consider.

A great example of Joe's success. He just lets the guest talk, nudges them when they need direction for productions reasons, but lets them talk. He asks the questions that pop up in his mind, but never interrupts. I hope the people teaching journalism these days are including this.

I saw him talk live in Montreal less than 2 weeks after this podcast. I've been a fan of Grahams work for about 7 years (I'm 31 now). The live lecture was excellent, this is a true explorer of truth and one of the most open minded and sincere human beings I've come across. He mentioned in the talk that he would be available to every single person who wished to meet him after the lecture, even if it took until dawn (the lecture was from 7--9pm). Well Mister Hancock kept his word, I waited an hour and a half in line with my buddy to speak with him afterward, and he gave each and every person his sincere attention. It was an absolute treat and lifetime memory to speak with Graham and he signed my book and took a photo, the line was another hour and a half behind me and it was already 1030pm. I'd imagine he stayed until nearly 1230am with Santha his wife to meet everyone, and this man is 70 years old!!! It was amazing nearly 300 of the 500 or so people stayed to speak with Graham, and he's touring many cities...
Thank you Graham, for your generosity, time, and relentless effort in seeking the truth and exploring the frontiers of mind and planet. You've changed my views on not just the mainstream historical narrative, but also led me on a path of truth and knowledge seeking and changed the way I see the world, for the better.

In all honesty, as a person who’s watched joe dmt Rogan since I was 16 and am now 18 I’ll personally say one of the saddest things that has happened to my youth is the idea or mentality that learning is boring or a chore. People much rather fill their day with selfies and timelessly rummaging through Instagram or Facebook than to sit here and learn. I think learning is so fascinating, put it this way, I think about thinks graham says months after I watch the video, instagram posts don’t even stay in my head past a couple hours. I wish my generation would stop focusing on all the stupid shit and stop being a set of followers and just sit there and enjoy learning. With my girlfriend for example she hates this shit, and she tells me how at school everyone hates this girl in class because “she always has something to say” as in something to add to the topic. And it’s like wow no one appreciates the fact that that girl might be so intelligent that she knows a little of each topic being spoken

Wow, I never imagined even 10% of what Graham is explaining, this absolutely is spectacular to hear! He also tells it in a very clear and easy to follow way. Good narrating voice too.
His books are also amazing. He started me on this journey of discovering the ancient world 23 years ago when I was 14 and picked up Heaven's Mirror.
There are a number of qualified archaeologists on TH-cam who strip Hancocks ideas to pieces in layman's terms and with peer reviewed hard evidence.
He's a best selling author of fiction and though fun he's not to be taken seriously.
Whatever scientists are finding in the Amazon is really cool but nothing to do with Hancock as he's just using it to give his silly ideas of advanced pre ice age civilisation some credence.
There are a couple of his books he narrated himself for audiobooks. Good shit

Remember archeology is barely a science when there’s so much interpretation and speculation involved. Egyptologists are the prime example of biased preconceptions influencing the study of Egyptian history rather than any hard evidence.

This is probably the most mind blowing podcast as far as civilization history goes. Imagine if the European and conquistadors never came across the ocean....
It would of been nice if a small group of intelligent people got together around 1450. They got a boat and filled it with all the books and enough scientists to teach weapon building to the new world. The when the European and conquistadors came, they could defend their land and property. The Americas would be a much better place than today!

@@danherrick5785 different for sure, better is questionable. Also that large a change in time would lead to titanic changes for the future. Without America hitler likely takes over the world. America included. Or worse he develops the nuke and uses it causing massive damage to the earth. Fallout famine strife anarchy. Playing with time is dangerous to unimaginable levels. I’d love to view the past but not interact with it.

I have read and watched Graham Hancock documentaries since 1981. He is a fascinating man. He is one scientist that reports the truth at great risk to his career

North America was also fairly easy to colonize (and I guess South too) because Indigenous people's didn't just garden...they made paths, roads, cleared undergrowth. But the Amazon now is a garden that's been untended and overgrown for centuries now. But I agree...a cool idea I hadn't considered before
Take it with a grain of salt. People who study indigenous cultures like to make giant leaps in their claims.
@@benjaminr8961 There's truth to what he's saying, cultivated species like the Brazil Nut, Ice Cream Bean, Acai Palm, Moriche etc. all dominate the tree population in mature Amazon rainforest. The fall of those civilizations likely caused those cultivated species to grow out of control. When second-growth rainforest is regrown, those same species do not usually return. Just some things to consider.
