      What are the bases you've used here? This looks like balsa but i'm not sure? -- I can get fairly thin MDF for builds, but its still fairly thick and the belt sander is required to run them down on the edges so they don't look like steps. + ... having to use a ban saw to break it down is a bit annoying

    • @BlackMagicCraftOfficial
      @BlackMagicCraftOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Larger ones are MDF discs from Dollarama. Smaller ones are plywood and mdf discs from amazon.

    • @RoseKindred
      @RoseKindred 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gremilllion Can I suggest getting a small rotary tool or a Dremel? Even a cheap charging one off amazon works wonders.
      An engraver bit breaks up the edges on MDF blanks easily while the cut-off wheel is great for cutting but I use it to score and snap. Wire bristle brushes add texture to spray foam. The sanding wheel bit will smooth down MDF easily as well. I use .1 in (2.54 mm) sheets and cutouts.

    After dipping your toes in 40k, cyberpunk and a bunch of other stuff, It's really nice to see that you've found a hobby niche that truly speaks to you - even if you had to literally make it yourself!

    I just moved from California to Florida and I had to part with years worth of terrain I had built. I gave all the stuff to my old gaming group. I just kept telling myself that I have more experience crafting now and I’ll build the terrain again even better. Can’t say I wasn’t heartbroken though. I definitely miss all my stuff. 😢

    I even have trouble parting with bought minis, boxed games, books; which have either become part of the evergrowing grey pile of shame or will never be used since they were an impulse buy. Overcoming such “fears” helps you in the long run. And on the plus side, someone else will be much happier with it than you are with in being stored in a box or closet. Great video once again! Can’t wait to play Idols of Torment.

      I was fascinated by Napoleonic wargaming as a lad. But then I put the figures into storage and considered selling off all the books. Twenty years later, and I’m so glad I didn’t. Once again it’s the centre of my interests.
      I’ve also got a few impulse projects that never got very far, but while I’ve got the space I like to keep them. Never know what will grab my attention again five years from now.

    I just grabbed two foam skulls to use for a hellish terrain build (Reign In Hell) from the Dollar Store here in the US. They were super easy to cut. The door in the side of the one skull was super cool, reminded me of someone using the remains of some ancient giant as a home. Still going to say it, your Echo builds are my favorite, even when they're quick projects. It's interesting to see what someone I consider an accomplished artist can do in a short amount of time. Gives you a look into their imagination and thought process.
    And, no, you are not the only one who has trouble parting with things they've made. Had to purge some stuff and cleaned out a bunch of post apocalyptic costumes I made a few years ago. I didn't quit throw EVERYTHING out (kept a few pieces from each costume as a memento) but its the closest I've ever gotten to giving away stuff I've made (they went to a local reuse-it shop for Halloween).

    Totally get not wanting to give it up. I painted a bust for my dad for his birthday and poured all the skill I have into it. At the end, it was the best model I've ever done and I had trouble giving it to him. In the end, I reminded myself why I had done it in the first place. Once I handed it to him and I saw his face, I no longer felt like I needed to keep it. I made the right decision.

    Don't worry I know all about how it feels to give away or sell something you made.
    I made my cousin some spore pod/drop pods for his 40k Tyranid army. I originally planned on making him like 2-3 and we'll I fell in love with how they looked. Mainly the first one I made. So I believe I ended up making like 4-5 more of them and giving him 2-3 of my least favorites out of the batch lol.
    Another time I even crafted up this cool looking Batman symbol thing for her birthday because we are both big Batman fans. Well I almost wanted to keep it and make another one for her but I ended up giving it to her and she loved it to death. She knew I made it myself for her. she asked me to be honest on how much did I spend on making it. I told her I already had the material but if I had to buy it at the store all the materials new would only been a few bucks and the amount I used in the making of the gift was probably a small handful of mixed change. She told me even though it cost so little to make that she said it was probably the best gift she got that year.
