Can’t get NAT Type A with Verizon fios - their port forwarding does not let you configure it the way any online tutorial says. Someone needs to make this type of video specifically for fios customers because their interface is crap.
I do not live in the United States, but I do live in one of the U.S. Territories. I live 7,000 miles away from the U.S. I had a problem connecting my Nintendo switch to my router, my internet would not connect at all. I did everything I could. I followed every step there is to try and connect my switch to the internet. I'm glad I searched on TH-cam. This has helped me connect to the internet. I used the recommended DNS server for U.S. and it worked. I don't know if there was an increase, as I never could connect to the internet, but downloads are pretty fast. Thank you for this!
Hopefully helpful comment for those in the comments below. This is a good general guide for any console and improving connection speed. The only thing to keep in mind is that you will almost always have to port forward different port numbers for different consoles and use the relevant local console IPs. Generally if you have walls between your console and router, go for a 2.4G connection. If you don't, go for 5G. Lastly, test test test! The public DNS servers may be great for your intents and purposes, but sometimes the automatic ones work better. Quick edit as well; Static IP helps but you don't "need" it as long as your Switch IP doesn't change (which, it typically shouldn't).
I know this comment is kinda old, but i just wanted to thank you about the info about the 2.4G connection. My Network situation is kinda odd and you quadrupled my download/upload speed, so thanks a lot!!
Well damn, those basic changes got me up another 8 Mbps! However, I'm having trouble with getting NAT type A. My internet is with Spectrum and has a more complicated method of Port Forwarding. There's no "start" or "end" port, it just has External and Internal port when adding a rule (or assignment in spectrum's case). Suggestions?
Online matches seem to be a lot more stable. So thank you a lot. With this stable connection I think ima actually going to consider getting Splatoon 3 now.
Switching DNS servers to OpenDNS, setting up Nat type A and surprisingly NOT modifying the MTU size took me from a 20 hour download to 2 hours, so quite an improvement. When I changed the MTU from 1400 to 1500 it would double it to 4 hours, so I guess it's very ymmv. Also, it didn't show in the speed test, but it did show in the estimated download time, so it may be worth checking that as well.
I have NAT type D. The MTU change from 1400 (default) to 1500 did help with my internet speeds. Weirdly enoug, when I create the UDP forwarding my Dspeed is around 25 and Uspeed around 15 and when I disable those my speeds change to 44 and 20, respectively, which is a huge difference.
In my case it only shows “local port” and “external port” boxes. In the local one I put the first number (45000) and in the external one I put the first number, an “-“, and the second number i.e(45000-51000), and it works nice.
better idea then putting your switch next to the router you can just get a plug extension increacin the range then get a wireless one near you and boom bam you have the router near you bassically
got a hunk of a router putting out 1000/1000 mbit no problem. but the switch just refuses to reach above 31 mbps down and 17 up. even after all this. and my nat type is A already.
Why does my download speed get 100 times worse with I make it 1500 compared to 1400? Even going lower mtu says I have better download speed. Like it went from 80 hours at 1500 to 6 hours on 1400 and then 4 hours on 1300
i have spectrum and its only showing internal(...im assuming this means local) and external ports. please help clarify what values are needed to be put in. Also, Do i have to make 2 port assignments to get the 2 range values you suggested i.e. 45000-51000 and 52000-65535?
Seems Spectrum App doesn't allow forwarding ranges, just individual ports. I hear you can call them and have a rep open the range for you. I'm gonna try that Monday.
Question, since I'll be changing some settings on my Internet router, will it affect the other devices also connected to it? Like yeah, the Internet speed on my switch is fast but what about the other devices?
