    We know the collectors were not completely wiped out when shepard blew up/preserved the station they lived on. That said, what happened to them after the Reaper conflict? Once their reaper/collector connection was lost, most died. But what happened to the once that survived?

    • @Colancio
      @Colancio 7 ปีที่แล้ว +58

      Same thing that happened to the races indoctrinated in the previous cicles after the reapers left, they go insane, starved to death or simply do nothing and stand still because they can't think for their own anymore.

      After ME2 they existed in more limited (no Base) form for Harbinger's use in battles Shepard is not involved with. Probably employed in similar use to before - neutralizing colonies.The resistance to this (people probably now knowing how the Collectors work) probably reduced their numbers further. With optional Leviathan involvement, the Leviathans sometimes utterly dominate Collector body-minds (biomechanical construct race), without care for their safety. When Leviathans detatch from Collectors, the race collapses as defective units that required connection to Harbinger (or previously their 'General', itself created to have quantum entangle control by Harbinger) to operate. In rare occasions, the Collector unit actually survives. This may be due to enough 'concentrated' genetic material to create a form of pseudo-consciousness, a Prothean race identity (based on how Prothean genetics is 'superior' and has more 'memory' in it than other species) and enough operation to 'live' and 'fight'. These become 'Awakened Collectors', with at least enough tactics to fight the Reapers alongside the Milky Way peoples, and at least enough 'hatred' for the Reapers to jump into the fray. After the Reaper conflict, its likely only Collector corpses remain and Awakened Collectors' fate is unknown. At best, they present the basis for a Neo-Prothean race to grow and develop into further consciousness. At worst, they degrade and are quickly useless except as a potential tool for the Milky Way peoples at some point. Sources: ME2, ME3, ME3:Leviathan DLC, ME3 MP updates.

    The Final fate of the collectors is interesting
    Mass effect 3 :Reckoning quote from wiki
    “When the Reaper-killer known as Leviathan fought the Collectors, it severed their connection to Harbinger with a thrall device. Most Collector forces died as a result, but a few survived. Now, these rare individuals fight for the memory of their people, a proud race broken by the Reapers.
    Protheans appointed avatars to embody and model a single virtue for their society. The Awakened Collectors' virtue is vengeance.”

    I always thought the Reaper Harbinger was the one assuming control of individual Collectors. And does he not release his grasp of the Collector General at the end?

  • @Shinarock
    @Shinarock 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    sorry but. the collector general was controlled by harbringer and was just "relay" of sorts. so the general himself didin't have power of posession. allso there was just 1 general not multiple ones.
    *spoilers* this was shown at end of me2 when harbringer's will left the general.

    • @SwobyJ
      @SwobyJ 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. The General, if freed and of a species able to self-determinate, would have indeed been a command point for the Collectors, but it had no domination power of its own. Using the General as a relay point, Harbinger was able to sustain his invisible indoctrination signal through two layers of units (General, Soldier) without degradation, and the Collectors were biomechanical constructs that would not go mad/dumb from such a process (since they were already drones, made only biological enough as Harbinger could make them). The Collectors don't need the General to operate, but they do need a Reaper, maybe specifically Harbinger. The General and maybe facilities of the Collector Base were required in order for Harbinger to have a strong signal and minimal latency to the Collectors in battle ('Harbinger' units). If ME3 was expanded in content/downloadable content, its certain that the Collectors would have been included in some more intimate battles with Harbinger, no General required.

      Primarch Alpharius It's possible that Harbinger was keeping them hidden in case Sovereign failed. I mean, Sovereign had an army of robots. Harbinger probably didn't want to blow his whole load early.

      Thing about that is that no one knew except for the shadow broker of where the Collectors came from and thus the Collectors can strike without retaliation.
      I have no idea how many cruisers the Collectors had but it was apparently was more than 1.

    • @SnowmanTF2
      @SnowmanTF2 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Seems like Collectors were a pet project of Harbinger, so Sovereign had to make his own crew to do his bidding, which he did mainly with geth but also converted human husks. Besides from ME3 is clearly not that hard to make an similar group of foot soldiers once they make contact with pretty much any alien species.

    • @SwobyJ
      @SwobyJ 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The Collectors are more of a continued pet experiment (perhaps to illustrate some of the autonomy Reapers can have, even within a collective agenda) than a strong space battle asset. Their few ships are singularly clearly powerful enough to take down smaller ones like the Normandy, sure, but their only prowess was in neutralizing colonies/organics (and in side-ME3 canon, that's what their remaining forces continue to try to do). By all this, I mean using them would be 'blowing the load' without much payoff. Sovereign possibly getting the Rachni going (though this is revealed or reconned to more likely be the Leviathans' doing) made some more sense, and getting the Geth going made perfect sense. The Collectors fit the 'just in case' slot, like so much of the Reapers' approaches through ME2 (Alpha relay, maybe activating Cerberus into more direct action than before), to at least destabilize the galaxy before a more direct Reaper invasion. Within trilogy given and developing canon, I'm certain that if Sovereign couldn't have made headways with Saren/Spectres and the Geth (Heretics), it would have finally utilized the Collectors to becoming a more capable war-ready force, instead of otherwise weak-slave force that only utilized/embodied highly advanced technology. A Collector Ship was taken down by an empowered Normandy SR-2. A Collector population is like a swarm, but there's also not a lot of them compared to the armies out there. If Sovereign could have done a hit-and-run on an OPEN Citadel, maybe it could have used them, but even the blitz on the Citadel required a protracted battle while the Citadel was in closed defense mode. Does this made sense?

    I wish the Collectors were more explored in ME2, for example they infiltrated Blue Suns, Eclipse and Blood Pack by making a deal: "You give us humans from raids, colonies etc and in exchange we give you extra cool weapons and upgrades to your combat, biotic and tech abilities,", saving the fact that those gifts were making mercs more suspectible to their benefactors and finally making them indoctrinated, especially their leaders.
    For example:
    - 3 merc groups hate each other, right? But it would be Collectors who would play on their egos to make them join forces to take down an Archangel (whom the Collectors knew who he really was) and later convinve them to continue this alliance to overthrow Aria and rule Omega. Once in total and tyrannical control of the station, they would give all human citizens to their "friends" all they wanted, completely unaware of the fact that at the same time a renegade band of Blood Pack Vorcha worked with the Collectors to kill every single non-human on Omega (except themselves of course) to become also total masters of the station and hand over human survivors to their "friends".
    It would make the Collectors more than just infamous Shepard killers, but also evil masterminds, who in truth unofficially controlled whole Terminus System, with Omega being one of the last places where they are not in power and for that they would want Aria dead.
