But I completely agree with you on the other suggestions. When ever there is a triumphant tournament team, you have to refresh it straight away and bring in the hunger of youngsters. Italian mangers always seem to fail to do this. In 2010 Lippi learnt the hard way by relying too much on old champion players from 06 squad. It cost Lippi and all of Italy in South Africa.
Both the missed penalties and other missed opportunities caused their downfall. If they had converted at least one of them they could have qualified. But I think it's just their fate after what Materazzi did in 2006 to have this bad luck in every World Cup since then 😂

The Last time when Italy have Played on World Cup was in 2014 in Brasil.
What I find weird is that here in Italy ever since that match people act like NOTHING ELSE happened with Mancini's tenure. Many act like the Azzurri went from missing WC 2018 to missing WC 2022 without doing ANYTHING in between.
It feels so absurd. How do they act like *winning* the Euros means nothing when you don't *participate* at a WC? How does QUALIFYING outweights winning a trophy?
It's because a world Cup is more significant than the Euros and not qualifying at all is a big deal. Another reason is because people tend to be negative and judgemental. They would remember the bad moments more than the good moments.
You don't really talk about Euros at a World Cup or World Cup at the Euros. WC qualification is a lot harder anyway.

After winning in 2006 Italy had abject failures in the World Cup, being eliminated inthe1st round in 2010 and 2014 and failing to qualify in the last two. This means their is a deeper crisis than missing penalties. And Jorginho should not play for Italy - he is a Brazilian full stop!

People blame Jorginho but Italy should’ve won the last match against weak N.Ireland no matter what, they screwed up the last match big time.
Even if they won, they wouldn't be able to top the group because Switzerland had a superior goal differential (unless Italy were to win 5-0 or something). The real reason was that missed penalty against Switzerland which would have given them a 2-1 victory and enough points to top the group over Switzerland.
@@markymark443 You’re right they needed to win 3-0 to top the group, not a big task for Italy, especially against N.Ireland.
N.Ireland had nothing to play for in the last game.
@@markymark443That and the draw against Bulgaria. If Italy had beaten both Bulgaria and N Ireland then they would have been top of the group. Drawing against Switzerland is fine, apart from the missed penalties.
