  • Brombil reservoir is a hidden gem tucked away in valleys of Margam, South Wales.
Its tranquil turquoise waters are something you associate with the glacial lakes of the Canadian Rockies or Italian Dolomites and are a far cry from juxtaposing Port Talbot Steel works which loom ominously in the background.
Despite its unusual location this a beautiful little reservoir which is definitely worthy of an afternoon visit. The surrounding foothills also offer terrific views back over the south coast and are well worth.
There is no official parking for this walk. Instead you have to plug in the postcode: SA13 2SR which will take you to Brombil barns situated a residential cul-de-sac on the other side of the M4 motorway.
Be considerate of residents as there have been issues surrounding parking and double yellow lines have been painted. The best place to park is before the flyover which takes you under the M4.

We decided to visit this place yesterday and bumped into your video while getting information about this place. Thank you so much, we wouldn't done it without your video and blog. It gave us every detail about the hike. Me and my boys who are 14 and 12 loved the entire experience this place gave us. It was spectacular. Thanks again!

Brombil Reservoir was a regular visit for us kids back in the day. Sad to hear that it has suffered from discarded rubbish etc. You could walk all around it then and sunbathe on the grass on any side. Looks a little overgrown now and returning back to nature. We swam in it every summer, despite the algae, no smart phones or tablets then. A word of warning it is very very very dangerous, freezing cold and you can get into serious trouble. So don't do it. I lost a dear friend in there in about 1970. Never went back for 40 years. On the upside it still looks beautiful and worth a walk up to Veiwpoint 2 as indicated on the video. I hear it is up for sale. Loved the video by the way.
