We live south of Tamarindo in Venado. I feel your pain. We have several varieties here of course but when the little ones start acting up too much, I know the army ants won’t be far behind. The first time they took over the house I was stunned. The bridges they build, the way they round up the little ones in encampments, along with their eggs. We’ve been here about 15 months and they’ve descended on us 4 times. We’ve learned just to stay out of their way and let them clean for the day or two. At least they all vanish at 6:00pm. I’ve been looking for the diatomaceous earth but can’t find it yet. But you’re so right, we learn our place with the wildlife and what those treaties are lol!
Yes, they definitely have their own plans and execute their plans with such precision, you have to admire that. As long as they stay out of my computer and hard drives I will call it a win😅👍
I am so happy i got to experience the last 3 weeks in Guenacasta area during Sarah. We rented a mini mansion in playa de coco that was supper bougie, is was new construction and very modern. The host messaged us and said due to the rain any untidy kitchen activities and our grilling will result in an army of ants. He was not wrong. The third or fourth night we cooked in-house. Because it was raining soooo much and apparently we left a half a grain of rice sized bit of egg yolk on the slim side of a cutting board. Listen when I say. “When we were making coffee the next morning we had to navigate an army of the tiniest little ants going after the smallest amount of egg yolk. We cleaned the area and every dish again prophylactically and the ants went away immediately. It is unbelievable how good they are at hunting down the smallest thing. Ironically how quickly they move on when there is nothing to gain. Long story short. If you have ants you’re not cleaning up well enough. Cheers
Sounds like a memorable time and way to make the best of a situation many would have seen as a negative. Your conclusion about ants in the last line however, may have been true in your case but is in no way accurate for every situation. In my case I had completely sanitized the kitchen including wiping down all counters and walls with Clorox and then with vinegar. There was no trace of food whatsoever. Sometimes ants may be looking for a new place to live or who knows what. But yes, the first thing to do if you have ants is to clean everything top to bottom and of you are lucky that will solve the problem, but not always. 🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜

Funny, Shayna and I were saying this a couple weeks ago how we don't miss all the ants! We'll run into them again when we hit the beaches and mountains tho!
