Overall looking nice. A natural look.. Mist seems a bit uneven though.

Yes unfortunately the rock at the very front of the paludarium stops the mist from spreading evenly across the tank. Something I never considered when building it ☹️

Thanks! I was toying around with making music so I thought I'd just put it as the soundtrack to this video... I admit it doesn't exactly suit the genre haha

How stable is this construction? Great idea using the mesh as a framework. Im building a paluda next and i dont want to use foam or glue to stick things on the glas itself. Was thinking to use filter mats to build terraces, but the mesh seems a way better option. Thanks!

    • @benspaludariums2500

The structure is very stable actually! Just really heavy…
If you use a similar method to me then expanding foam is key to making sure everything is sturdy. Before adding the foam the whole thing would wobble around.
As it happens I’m currently upgrading this build. I’ve emptied out all the plants and I’ve added an extra 10 inches or so to the height, and it’s still solid as a rock!
I’ll be uploading a video of the upgrade within the next month hopefully.
Good luck with your build! Feel free to ask if you’d like any more tips.

@@benspaludariums2500 thanks for the feedback! I will think about the structure a bit more before deciding on the material. I want to use sansui stones so it should be not be that heavy, but 45cm high could add up the weight. Definetly will try it in a dojo first.
What do you do against unwanted animals coming into the paludarium like flys and such? Im propagating a few plants and already killed a bunch off.
Also, how do you tackle mold in a paludarium? Or is that only an issue when there is a lid on the tank and not enough airation?

    • @benspaludariums2500

@@didnthurt4077 Yeah if it's 45cm high it will be quite heavy, but you should still be able to move it fairly easily. That's the great thing about building the hardscape out of the tank! You can always change things around without having it stuck to the glass.
You could also consider building it in "sections" that slot together. My upgraded version is built in 4 sections, or else I wouldn't be able to pick the thing up 😂
As for insects and such, I honestly haven't had an issue with that at all. If I leave the window open in the summer, the light sometimes attracts flies. But I've never had trouble with insects "moving in" as it were. I live in the UK, so maybe it would be different where you're from.
I've had some mold on the wood that I placed down by the water line, but this seemed to dissapear after a few weeks.
One thing I would say with an open top build - especially one where the hardscape comes above the line of the tank - is that it's very hard to maintain enough humidity for things like moss. I've only been able to get moss to survive near the waterfall area and below the rim of the tank, where the mist maker keeps things moist.
Additionally, I'd recommend thinking about how to keep your soil moist if it's suspended above the waterline like mine is. Originally my soil would dry out if I didn't water it daily, so I had to find a way to get the waterfall to leak into the soil area slightly. Using string or some kind of fabric is a good way to have water siphoning into the soil from the waterfall (If you're planning on having one).
