@AVIRAL KHANDUJA just save the money for additional storage. If you value brighter screen and slightly longer battery life than an additional 8 gb memory, then go for pro. Otherwise there is nothing wrong with choosing air for coding.

@@MaxTechOfficial When you do the memory comparison, pay attention to the hard drive swap file size (or virtual memory). Since everything is integrated on a single SOC, there might not be any performance difference between using "physical memory" vs "virtual memory". So spending an extra $200 for 8GB more of ram might not be needed?

Thanks for your review! I went from a 7 year old MacBook Pro 15 and bought the base M1 Mackbook Air hoping I would like the smaller screen and leaving the MacBook Pro. After watching the video, the Air 13" seemed like it had the specs for what I needed. Immediately after unboxing the M1 Air, I knew I wasn't going back to a larger and heavier MacBook Pro. The gold is a rose gold and so pretty! The keyboard is much easier to use. I think the air is so cute, and actually like the smaller screen. The speaker is louder and better than my older Macbook.

@@jazzmike_ that's true I'm sure, I also do the same on a much older iMac. But that's not the point of this test. It's not just comparing general average use, it's very specific. Each track has the same audio instrument (Sculpture) and insert plug ins on it, the point being it's a stress test with identical tracks so you can compare any machine consistently. You can download this exact Logic project yourself, just google New Logic Benchmark Test. Then you can run it on your machine and see how many tracks you can play before your CPU overloads. I ran this exact same test today on a 2011 27" 3.4 Ghz i7 4 core (8 thread) 32GB RAM iMac with internal SSDs. I forgot exactly how many tracks it got before CPU overload, but I think it was only around 36...

Would you be able to do a longer endurance test between the pro and air? I found it interesting that the cinebench results on the pro were marginally better when the fan kicked in momentarily, but what would happened if you did that for a longer sustained period of time so that the fan stays on for longer? I’ve only got the M1 Pro, and with my workloads I constantly hit about an hour of rendering time through compressor, and my fans kick in after the first 10 minutes and stay on for the remaining 50 minutes, so I’d like to see a similar test between these two devices since most of the “pro” sustained workload tests I’ve seen for some reason tend to be around 10 minutes long, which is barely enough for the fans to kick in so it’s not a test of the full capabilities. If the air can still come close to the pro’s performance under heavy rendering workloads for over an hour long, then I’m considering returning my pro and exchanging for an air, but as of now I can’t imagine the air coming close to the pro’s performance in the specific way I use it. Though my wallet would be happy for me to be wrong 🤣

Honestly, The M1 MacBook Pro is the way to go if you want a machine for the long term.
    -Better speakers
    -better microphone
    -larger trackpad
    -Touch Bar
    -slightly better gpu
    -better battery life
    - faster SSD speeds

No! The Pro would have been a far better machine long term. Air is great as the entry level. Keep it at that. The Air is not intended as anything but a basic Mac for basic everyday tasks.

Don’t all Airs come only with 7-core GPUs?

@@tha_realness The entry level MBA is an 8-core CPU, 7-core GPU machine, but there’s also an option to upgrade to a model with a 8-core GPU as well.
