In my case, it is the opposite. Native English speakers say I sound more natural when I pronounce the words with my Mexican pronunciation/accent. When I try to pronounce the sounds "the right way" they say I sound fake. I get confused by that.

My take on this, is as long as you're not “demanded” to make the accent, keep it natural. I bring this up because there are a number of companies that require you to have a native accent.
