- Paul Shaffer organized an all-star jam of Booker T. and the M.G.s classic "Green Onions," with Booker T. Jones, guitarist Steve Cropper, bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn, as well as U2 guitarist The Edge, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, guitarist Neil Young and more during the 1992 Hall of Fame Inductions Ceremony.

I see Donald 'Duck' Dunn!
Huge respect to you, sir, please rest in peace...
You were an inspiration
Never got a mention during the performance.
I know there were a million idols up there on that stage, but it did my heart especially good to see Little Richard up there smiling and enjoying himself.
I much agree. He was there at the beginning. So many musicians owe so much to him.
Nobody owes little Richard shit! He was and still is a punk
I was 11 years old when this song with Booker T and the MG's influenced me to play the Hammond B3. I am now 66 years old and I still play this.
I was younger you. I love this song.
As a drummer for the last 50+ years, the B3 is still my sound or choice!!
@@rustymacneil3227 Well now my friend I am 68 years old and I can play that B3 like it's on Fire!! Amen.
Sam, I'm 69 still Rock n Roll!! This Great Music 🎵🎶🎵🎶 Keep Rocking!!!!
Gosh I never tire of listening to Green Onions 😁
"All over the place" as Wolfman used to say
Once in a lifetime does this happen. So much talent in one place. All different genres. Amazing! Thanks for the video.
The soundman's resumé has no mention of this gig.
🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂
LMAO....as a sound tech, I s'pose I should defend the poor guy....NAWWW. Too Much Fun on this one
I *Saw the Soundman's Resume. He was Qualified = he set up the 1st grade May Day Program sound!*
Can you imagine being there live with all those Fabulous musicians and singers? I watched it on television and thank you so much for putting it on You Tube. 5*****
Little Richard,Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Keith Richards, etc. this has got to be the closest of heaven on earth by talented musicians! Or as I tell everyone hey baby it don’t get no better
🤯
The all time great jam band song with an all time set of musicians.
The original was one of the best of its time!!
Since I play bass my hero Duck Dunn. Man what a jam and cast
That is one talented shambles
+Matt Campbell One shambolic waste of talent
Well said, my friend.
This has to be one of my favourite pieces of music, big love to all of you xxxx🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🎶🎶🎶🎶🌈
Each player has his own unique style, playing the same chorus,. Love it!!
This Is Phenomenal, this is all people should get together,be brothers and sisters!
FIRE the sound man...wow...
soundman hall of shame
Painful to listen to. Horrible!
mottainai!
Keith is still alive in 2022. 30 years later. Unreal.
these things rarely work - but at least you have many legends on stage at the one time
That's why I love these things. There really is nothing as great as seeing them all playing together. lol, ok, that sounds funny, I know. But you know what I mean.
Everybody in that room knows that song and they are all ready to jam to it. :)
This is Fucken Awesome!!! Great Artists , Great Music 🎵🎶🎵🎶 I'm 69 still Rock n Roll!!! Till Death,!!!!!!!
Brilliant so many Blues Giutars .👈🎼🎸🎶 ❤
Only one word " Priceless " !!
What an amazing performance!!
Oh My God How COOL CAN YOU GET 😎❤️❤️❤️😎 WHAT A JAM😎♥️♥️♥️😎Your Fan Always Rira❤️😎🎶
Wuau cuánto talento reunido en un espacio tan pequeño!!!!
Steve Crooper, Dolnald dun Booker T magnifique
Lewie Steinberg, co-writer of "Green Onions" , original bassist for Booker T. and the MGs, and recorded on this instrumental in
1962 has no mention in this caption as part of the band. He is present on stage along with Duck playing bass but gets no mention. Steinberg is on the far left near Booker T. who's on organ.
Play it Steve, help these guys out !!!!!
johnny cash, keith richards, little Richard, steve cropper and all these ledgends one one stage😃 wow
This has Paul Shaffer written all over it in his very own handwriting.
Awesome Rock Video!!!!!!!! Rock n Roll is King!!!!!!
I wish whoever was trying to play over Steve Cropper would shut up!
Totally agree
It's the guy from @4:26. NO idea who he is.
Dude horrible. Horrendous
@@MauFerrusca Apparently its ernie isley
Cocaïne
THIS. IS. A NIGHTMARE.
A coruscating rendition of Green Onions & a great line up performing it along with its originator; Book T.
Little Richard nailed it!
As Always
What, by keeping quiet for once?
Que pasada de blues y que guitarristas♥️♥️♥️♥️
Oh,my Lord..... the players there!!!!!! Cannot start to name them all !!!!!
They feel the vibe.... Brilliant...
You want to see a jam session at the gates of heaven here ya go.
All those greats. So many gone and you can't hear them even close to properly. What a shame.
NOW! that's a jam session
Live at Daryls house the best I have seen
At the end of this Shaffer should've said, "Kick my ass!"
I busted out laughing at that comment........that was a true shxx show and didn't honor the song/group at all. NealYoung bailed out quick........
hard!
Thanks great talent great assembley always sound issues with these jams but that's a mino complait it's so great!
Booker T wrote this song when he was a senior in high school.
I thank God every day for the blessing of this band U2 !
Steve Cropper opacó a TODOS, es un genio
Booker T and the Memphis Groove 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 STILL!!!!!!!
This is as close as you’re going to get to rock ‘n’ roll heaven people
I can barely hear the organ!
WHAT I DIDNT NO THERE WAS 1 LOL OFF WITH THE SOUND MANS HEAD WOULD OF BEEN BETTER WITH OUT 1 AT ALL
Larry Harrison Lol, it needs an organ, considering that is the prime instrument of the song
Paul, ...he just has to be the centre of the universe
Better than G.E. Smith trying to upstage everyone, like another one of these other jams I've seen.
Green Onions, That's Pretty Good Music When An Instrumental Sells A Million Copies . GREAT SONG!
TEMAZO!!!
The harmonica solo was great to watch... too bad you couldn’t hear a thing 😂
thanks I'll have to check that out!
Gotta wonder how many gold and platinum records are being represented on that stage ……
Paul conducting !
Whole lot of talent up there.
Line-up too big. Original Green Onions was great in its simplicity.
For sure...completely agree...
Good point, and true. I enjoyed it, but it's one of those things that's more fun for the participants than the fans. Fun for sure, though. The song is too damn good to mess up but so bad.
hot mess
Tom Pettys version is the bessssstttt!! Check it out!!
Goi g to listen to the original now and clear my head.
Nice fun jam
One of the coolest things i've ever seen!!!
What a racket.
After watching this mess I decided to go listen to the original recording so I would remember what it really sounded like. I was right. Nothing like this.
No far better
And the R&R HOF just continues to suck more and more.
@@paulhare662 I feel your pain!
Paul Schaffer is the worst.
Sad that the sound is so messed up. I love your YT channel, Eric.
Great performances but I wouldn't want to be the sound engineer trying to mix this! Musicians having fun!
Utter chaos
Soul man darwen great tune up the mods
I can hear the drums!!! and paul shaeffer of course!
Well. I liked it
Wtf Why didn't he call out don the duck I mean it was his song wow Huh. I met the duck at the hard rock hotel IN 95-96 where I was working. He had stopped using the pipe cause he got throat cancer. We developed a friendship and used to go out to sand dollar blues lounge here in Las Vegas .
What a great guy never let the fame get to him Just a good ole boy to the end . Surely missed. We talked about Delaney Bramlett whose daughter Bekka and susan I went to high school with in an LA suburb. And how Delaney should Be INDUCTED to hall of fame also.
I was so young and the internet wasn't even really big yet yet always a fan of sam and dave I never knew he played all those great 60s show with them. Those videos are sooo great Man SAm AND dave and booker t and the mgs on that 1967 stax Europe show were the best ever.
If I hadn't been soo young and known soo little of his music Id a asked him about touring with SAm and Dave, but maybe he liked me cause like ronnie van zant wrote. Don't ask me no questions and I wont tell U NO lies. The duck was definitely one of the greatest bass players ever . Told me hed never play anything but a FENDER not even ricky.
I. Green Onions was not Duck's song. 2. The bass you heard is Duck playing. He was a great guy. RIP Duck.
I just saw this video for the first time and thought who the hell was Paul Shaffer to lead that classic jam with one of the composers, Booker T, right there on keyoboards? Shaffer should never have been on stage.
in his defence, he is/was the musical director of the annual R&RHOF festivities.
A sound man’s worst nightmare
Takes my breath away!
The assembled talent on that stage was mind-boggling. The sound, not so much.
Sound guys nightmare right there!!
yup awful... shows one that you need more than a musician (or 30) to make music
@@mikeo5657 Amen.
@@unclenedsfishfactory6461 I've been in, and have seen, many "bar band" jams. Most, if not all, sounded terrible no matter how good the players were.
(Imagine all the players in this video and add lots of alcohol!).
I'm glad to see someone say this for once. I think this is the jam where Keith and Johnny Cash agreed they couldn't even figure out a key to play in. Don't see Springsteen there, he usually seems to get in on all these things.
Classic
They should have all sat down and let the MG's play(of course keep Johnny Cash for a little rhythm support).
right, it's not in F it's in Fm lol
who was being inducted?
I hope it was booker t and the mg's.
Superior to the rest of the all-stars in this jam.
This song is great enough that it was able to stand up to the large perfoming group!
Yes, criticisms are valid, but this was to a studio band who didn't get much recognition in the course of time. They did deserve the accolades, imo.
call in magicians, Penn & Teller, to find out where the song disappeared to.
Proof, if proof were needed that The Edge is not a bluesman!
Does Paul Shaffer ‘always’ have to talk? Don’t remember there ever being vocals in the ‘instrumental’ hit, Green Onions. 🤔🤭😀
There was ABSOLUTELY NO DRUGS whatsoever during this performance!!
too many cooks spoil the broth :/
+Debopam Roy Exactly. This sounds like shit, Nothing like the original.
@@BillyJango Hey... They are just messin. 'around....it is for the Live audience....we already have the original which has the disadvantage of "Being Absolutely Perfect" ...which means it cannot be duplicated never mind surpassed. One of life's rare moments of Pure Perfect.
Overblown version...Just need Booker T and the MGs daddy o
Super blues 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
Ça c'était des musiciens heureusement que j'ai connus ça
Great ! 🇩🇪
That's Johnny Cash alright. He was also inducted that year. This jam session was a rather awkward affair. They tried to do Big River but Johnny was the only one who knew it it seemed, and in the recent biography Rosanne Cash remembered with great amusement how Johnny found himself also jamming to Purple Haze (because Hendrix was also inducted).
Yeah Johnny was also a part of the All along the Watchtower jam that went down to honour the JH Experience. The video of that is here on TH-cam. Though it turned out an absolute mess as well. Johnny looks highly amused throughout.
Thanks, I swore that was Johnny, but for some reason I was doubting, think my eyes are getting real bad.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Lewie Steinberg at the end! Wow!
Too many cooks. Let Booker and "Play itt Steve" do their thing.
Cool
"What a fuster cluck...!" The Great Booker T. and the M.G.'s DID NOT deserve this garbage.
What the hell. The song has 1 keyboard, drums, Fender P bass and a Telecaster. Why do we have
never seen so much talent on one stage , to bad the sound guy did not have the lines marked.
THAT SOUNDED LIKE GREEEN SHIT
Neil Young wanted no part of this raucous...
Aaron Neville looks out of place with the cowbell and just wants the song to end 1:52 . Other people given percussion instruments to have something to do like it's some kind of 2nd grade music class.
Looked like Neil wanted to play, but either the amp was off,? Wasn’t plugged in? Soundman never turned him up? He looked disgusted, and had enough! The guy on the white strat, should have left a half second, for someone else to play? Like maybe the guy on the recording? What a egotistical hog!
@@joemasse4568 totally agree - Neil Young said F**k this, move over he's Keith Richards-Johnny Cash how did i get involved with this- what a total mess, David Letterman's Paul Shaffer ( a great musician)- but a total MESS
@@joemasse4568 That was Ernie Isley having one big wank
Too many cooks spoil the broth
Agree there. Yeah but there's Johnny Cash! And there's Keith Riffhard, he can still play!!!!
I was just going to comment exactly that.
OMG!!! lol, I was just asking someone who that is that looks just like Johnny Cash! lmao
Anyone know who the last guitar solo is? At about 4.04? He's the one playing the guitar behind his head.
I want to know this too! Definitely caught my ear
Ernie Isley from the Isley Brothers
whos Bar MItzvah is this anyway?
