Nezhmetdinov defeats the Sicilian Dragon in 15 moves

- Featured is a game played at the 1946 Kazan Championship between Rashid Nezhmetdinov and P. Ermolin. Nezhmetdinov opts for the Levenfish variation against the Sicilian Dragon and executes e5 at the first available moment. Due to Ermolin's poor reaction to this advance, Nezhmetdinov gains a winning advantage after only 8 moves. A unique position arises after Nezhmetdinov's 14th move where he poses three threats: a queen capture, a mate in 1, and a mate in 2. There is no defense to all of these threats.

1. "triple jump" Fantastic. 2. "there goes the Queen... and there goes the King" Hilarious. Keep it coming, Jerry.
Something that I have seen other chanels do with great effect is that the board changes color (to like a greyed out for example) for hypothetical lines. This is helps to keep track of what the main line of the game was which can be tricky to keep track of when multiple possible lines are explored before returning to the main line of the game. It also helps with not having to mention that you are going back to the main line of the game every single time because the board itself shows that. I suspect that they are using some software that helps with that (as opposed to through editing, which would be a nightmare), but I think that it is worth looking into it.
Jerry did the board-grayscale thing for a few videos earlier this year, but then switched back. I personally found it to be harder to follow instead of easier, since Jerry's already very clear to me about when it's hypothetical or not, but there might be some other way that works for more people?
@@AzureLazuline oh really? I was really busy at the time, so I may have missed it. But I also may have just not have made a note of it at the time. I had to think back recently why I follow better certain videos compared to others and that was a thing that I made note of only after looking for it.
I can absolutely see how it could be distracting for some though. Maybe he tried it and most people didn’t like it? Or maybe he himself didn’t like it. Either way, I’m glad to know that he at least gave it a try.

Is it true Rashid was 5 times Soviet champion? Most impressive if so
Either this is a great opening for White, or an abysmal one for Black. I’ll have to go over this again. Especially surprising is the early PKB4 for White. Because, usually, when I play that configuration as White (Grande Prix Attack, etc), I get beaten. 🤔

If e5 on move 7, the problem is not on d4, because Nxc6, but then Qxd1 Nxd1bxc6, and even though fxe5 is next, Black will simply move Ng4 - if Bf4: Bg7...e5 will fall. White's a pawn down, with a inferior position

on move 10? the f pawn is pinned so black would lose the bishop and the queen. so it's probably the worst move available to black
3:31 I had a lot of fun analysing this position after Black tries f6 to prolong the game. I think I would struggle playing as White against anyone that is higher elo than me.
