Bro I am AMATUER my record is 22 and 3 I had the same situation I went to the the gym I told them that I can clean up the gym and they agreed u should try this as well
I thought my coach back in the day was teaching me right in boxing. After watching coach Anthony now makes more sense rather than just throw a punch. Thank u coach Anthony.
Yo coach! I run a boxing club at my small college (I'm not a great boxer but no one else was and someone had to deal with the red tape to get the funding, but I can teach them the basics). Your videos have been amazing in helping explain fundamentals and techniques! Keep up the great work, its appreciated a ton.
Cause he can still get youngsters excited and into the sport, and who knows man, the guy might have been into amateur boxing his whole life? I'm sure he can teach some kids the basics and run a good training. Heck there's a bunch of famous coaching with no or very little fighting experience like Angelo Dundee and Cus D'Amato@@edginess2690
idk why, but i just like eddie chambers. he blocks ur shit coming in without u pre informing him, hes a pro, hes willing to be in ur vids no problem, he seems like a nice friendly guy but he can also decimate you. love people like that. he seems like a guy a new comer could ask to spar lightly and he would go lightly and youd learn from him without taking extensive damage. eddie you are appreciated
I'm 41 and just started doing this and this reminded me I need to work on getting a more complete rotation. I also need to work on my distance management. But I found this helpful 👍
Recording yourself is a big help - not only with the jab, but also with sparring, heavy bag work and shadow boxing.... that's when you realize how terrible you really are.
Really good teacher named Marvin cook said there’s an apple on the shelf and you gotta grab the apple, bring it back. Thought that was pretty solid description. Thanks for the tips man!
I utilize the jab as best I can. I think of the jab as a shovel and the opponent as a chunk of dirt and I’m trying to dig in him and find that shot to make the dirt crumble. 🥊👍🏻
Coach Anthony, thanks for this video. You've given me something to think about next time I take on the heavy bag. I just wanted to tell you I really like the shorts Eddie wore. The little stripes down the sides show me how his hips move. That's really helpful for me.
Intriguing video, for which I thank you both. I'm a bit confused, though, about what you describe as 'jumping in.' Ordinarily, aren't the feet supposed to be the same distance apart? I realise that if one is moving to the right, one moves with the right foot first, and vice versa when moving to the left. However, isn't the other foot supposed to move very shortly thereafter so that the feet are again the same distance apart (without crossing the feet, of course)? I use the word 'ordinarily' because I realise that regarding the jab, one can leave the rear foot planted and move the front foot forward to land the jab, only thereafter to return the front foot back to the initial position (so feet are the same distance apart)? I had, however, thought this was more of an 'amateur' boxing manoeuvre, designed for quick 'tap tap' scoring (I was taught the manoeuvre many years ago by a great amateur, Errol Christie). Not so good, though, if having just thrown the jab one realises that one would otherwise have been in a position to throw the rear hand, but one is prevented from doing so (straight away at least) due to one's feet being (relatively) wide apart (the front foot is forward and the rear foot is planted way back - 'giving birth' as I once heard it called!). Surely the better bet is to 'jump in' as you describe it, i.e. with the front foot moving sensibly forward (no silly lunge, of course) and the rear foot following mighty quickly almost at the same time? In such circumstances, the jab is probably going to be harder (because one has more momentum behind it as the rear foot is coming) and one is in a position to throw the rear hand immediately if appropriate? If on the other hand, the rear hand is not appropriate, surely one can either retreat via the back foot getting one the heck out of there? Admittedly, it's not quite as safe as having the rear foot planted further back, but it seems to me that the pros (regarding the options to throw a fast and powerful rear hand and the fact that the jab is going to be heavier) outweigh the cons. Alternatively, there are the pivots and 'bob and weaves' which you discuss in, among other courses, your angles video. Personally, I've never liked leaving the rear foot rooted while throwing the jab for the reasons given above. I would be very interested to receive your comments.
A further thought. If by 'stepping in', you mean moving both feet simultaneously towards the target when throwing the jab (as opposed to front foot first with rear foot following swiftly but not simultaneously behind), am not sure that Eddie actually does this in your video demo. Presumably, it's difficult for him to make such a mistake. What about the pendulum step, though? Should you never throw the jab while doing the step? That is to say, should you always stop the pendulum, set the feet and throw it as you suggest? Seems to me the pendulum step sort of invites one to throw the jab while 'jumping in'. Again, any and all comments would be welcome.
