Dr Huberman is humble. He is like the story teller Mr Ballen here. He puts technical information easier to understand than most people who lecture. Hearing you want to involve the public in your podcasts will be revolutionary here.
This is now my favorite of all the interviews of Dr. Huberman I have seen on TH-cam (and I have probably seen over a dozen). Great job on this interview, Lex.
Signed up for masterclass with your link, didn't realize it's annual subscription only so $162 instead of $15 monthly. Decided to keep it though to support you because what you bring to the world is invaluable. When you first started I thought your show would be super niche for nerds but was pleasantly surprised to see how much demand there is for educational content on TH-cam. Keep slaying life my dude.
Lex is an absolute necessity to growth, learning, and knowledge of better self-awareness, reflection, innovation, and creativity. I thank you sincerely for these podcasts that speak to my mind on the best level. Thank you!
I haven't used an alarm to wake up since 2015. I just watch my hydration really closely all through the day, and then simply drink the prescribed amount of water before bed. Using this method, I can land within 30 mins. of whatever time I wish to wake up. Liberating myself from the mechanical commands of an alarm clock has had a measurably positive effect on my quality of sleep and overall cognitive function. Total game changer.
@@mightynathaniel5355 Children often tell a grown up when they want to tattle. Accusations are the most cheaply manufactured weapons. Narcissists often accuse others of the very crimes of which they themselves are guilty. Zealots often judge others unworthy. Scammers often use slight-of-hand in place of actuality. All I do is drink water and wake up to pee.
Hey Lex I'm not sure of the hate you are getting on the internet but the people who love you will always outnumber those who try to hold you back. Focus on the people that you are helping. The World needs you.....Thank you.
"Non sleep deep rests" Holy crap, there's a term for the thing I do. I've found that when I can't sleep, just lying down and clearing my head can sometimes have the same effect as sleep.
I just started doing it from out of nowhere during this winter covid lockdown. Such a great tool. Never realized it was just too much brain noise causing my fogginess. Just go lay down and relax everything for 20 min - half an hour and become completely clear headed, ready to tackle anything.
Same here I started doing power naps (if I manage to go to sleep otherwise I just l lie down) after I've watched Coursera's learning how to learn course a couple of years ago. Best thing that happened to my mental health.
Hooked. Thank you so much for a great listen! Andrew Huberman is my inspiration these days. I enjoyed and appreciated your interview with him. I saw him in a bit of a different, more personal light (I suppose that what a good interviewer does). Topics of the interview were interesting and informative, funny and weird (in a good way); but that’s not what struck me most. It was the intimacy, the obvious extreme level of mutual respect, admiration and friendship that really set the tone. I’ve only just met you, Lex for the first time tonight - listening to your interview with Andrew- and I hope to hear much more from you in the future. I listen to Andrew’s podcast regularly and plan to add you to my “listen-list.” In closing, I don’t want to be too sentimental, but dang... y’all ended the interview on a real “Kumbaya” note. I could feel the love all the way down here, “Deep in the Heart of Texas”. Thank you!
I cannot thank Dr Huberman enough for his podcast. His practical recommendations vastly improved my mental wellbeing and cognitive performance. And we are just 2 months into the series!
I'm a bit drunk right now, but that's usually when I am most honest with myself. Lex, you are a treasure. There was a void left on TH-cam when Rogan left for Spotify. Joe is still great, but Spotify runs ads on him mid-conversation, even when you're subscribed for premium. By contrast, I can listen to you for 2-3 hours uninterrupted, and that's truly a gift. Thank you for doing what you do.
Dr. Huberman's knowledge is changing my life for the better. Thank you for your willingness to speak to the public and for sharing scientific protocols for improvement. Mad respect for both of them!
I've been resistant to this episode for some reason, but it really helped me appreciate Huberman more and reduced my worry regarding the effects of poor sleep.
Okay, 1:54:30 or so.. I've been listening to a lot of talks on psychedelics for quite some time now.. and this is the first time I've heard someone refer to exercise as psychedelic. It absolutely is - it is how I get to my honest place. Glad to hear it confirmed with someone else.
Lex, I’m not expecting a high level intellectual discussion when you’re doing that kind of running. I’m proud of you for even attempting it-the desire to see what you are capable of is inspiring. Thank you for your work on the podcast and bringing us great guests like Andrew.

There are way too many podcasters whose main function seems to be proving how smart they are. They interrupt their guests to try to show how much they know. It is so welcoming to see someone like Mr. Fridman who asks questions and just listens.

48:56 I used to run long distance cross country for school in my early teens. How Andrew describes the pattern of inhalation is exactly how I used to control my breathing. The break in inhaling would be marked by the contact of my foot on the floor and the exhale would carry over 2 steps.
What is it about dreams that particularly catches you? After hearing Andrews thoughts I'm even more curious about the function and possible utility that could be gained through not just Lucid Dreaming but Dream Control directed by the Dreamer themselves during the dream.
Time stamp: 1:27:30 Very interesting when he discusses "why we quit" with reference to the experiment of the animal running when altering the visuals to make them think they are not getting anywhere... I notice this when I run, if I am doing loops on a track, it seems so much harder to keep going ever lap, yet when I'm on a beautiful trail and see my progress through the forest, running 5+ miles is a breeze. Fascinating.
Adenosine accumulates in the brain while we are awake. The accumulation of adenosine causes drowsiness. Circadian rhythm is approximately 24 hours. Temperature is a key factor. The overlap of the systems is why we sleep.

I am a comparative theologian and philosopher specializing in mystical spiritual experiences and altered states of consciousness. I was driving home deep in thought about my chronic fatigue. I randomly turned on this podcast and it’s fascinating. I’m now lying in bed with my feet elevated and I’m going to try a 30 minute nap Andrew mentioned. Circadian rhythm is a tough one to reset. I know the naps I take occasionally affect me at work (when I can’t nap). I’m just so tired of being tired. Great conversation today!
This was such a great podcast! I like alternating between Andrew's one-topic podcasts and his free-form interviews with people like Lex, Rich Roll, Joe Rogan, etc.
Thank you for sharing your fears so openly. It is inspiring to hear someone I admire express their concerns. On a different note, when I used to counsel people a common fear was that someone didn't like them or something they were trying to do. Because people are different not everyone will like us or what we do. The only people I would pay heed to would be those that I admire and trust.
Lex, I'm a jiu-jitsu 3rd degree black belt who's been training for over 20 years and has been vegan for nearly a decade. I'm going to be 44YO this year, still train every day and am in good health. It is absolutely possible to thrive in BJJ under a full vegan diet and there are plenty of high level grapplers who are vegan/plant based. Renato Canuto, Raquel Canuto, the Miyao Brothers, Mica Galvão, Dave Meyer (member of the Dirty Dozen and awesome subject for your podcast) are among the many who do. Go for it buddy. Love the podcast.
Yup, if you dedicate yourself to implementing the learnings from these types of podcasts, old friends will not recognize the former you in you anymore in 3 years lol
Lex, your channel has gradually become one of the few beacons of light hidden in the deep rot that has metastasized on the web... For real, your content is at times the only solace i find when I yearn for genuine conversation worth listening to...
1:12:20 I've been vegan for 2 years. The withdrawals/cravings for meat, dairy, and highly processed foods lasted for 6+ months and were harder than expected. My health dramatically improved and many issues cleared up.
At 59:27 about fasting. Since 2016 I've logged over 8000 hours of two weeks long strict dryfasting to induce maximal autophagy to heal serious health issues. I maintain the gains doing intermittent fasting. Feasting during a shortened window is no longer about counting calories, but about heeding the two hormones - one that signals hunger and one that signals satiation, so I eat to satiation, no more, no less.
I enjoyed this conversation. I work at night. I trained myself with melatonin to sleep in the daytime, even with distractions. I feel great. I take a certain amount of melatonin in the day time, depending on what I have planned for the day before work. I go into a coma. And come out feeling great. I need at least 4 hours of sleep though, on tricky days. Otherwise I'm a walking drunk person. It's not very safe or very nice to see. My worst memory was being awake for 24 hours and running over like 20 cones, trying to avoid hitting an 18 wheeler not letting me pass on the highway. I went straight to work afterwards. Somehow I managed to keep myself awake and not falling off my chair. Lol. Not a nice memory. I try not to do that kind of stuff anymore. I also tried dried organic tart cherries for the melatonin effect. They work. But, it's kind of annoying trying to figure out how many cherries to take on certain days. It's more predictable with melatonin, when you already know the dosage and the effects it has, when you take more or less of it, at different times of day and whatever. Also, there's better quality of melatonin, I think. It took me awhile to find the better stuff.
I'm just going through the different sections before watching and my oh my this is gonna be an amazing podcast. I usually watch Gaia because they have the more spiritual explanations but Lex is puttin in work. Honestly better than JRE rn.
2:53:23 The humility aspect provided by psychedelics can be wonderfully encouraging to creatives or those seeking deeper layers of their creativity; it's like an elimination of social stigma bias, egoic self criticism, and playfulness inhibition. It can assist in getting back to the "art for art's sake" that we lose in the state of social consciousness that primarily rests surface level, materialistic, and ego driven. Therefore I believe this is why psychedelics are correlated to increases in creative energy. There's no self-obsessed narrative telling us we aren't good enough to try.
Brutal! One of the best podcasts I've watched on this channel. Btw. congrats on the first million! I think I've been following this channel since it was sub 100k (back in 2018).
I have attempted to meditate many times in my life and prior to this CD the only success I've experienced is with live guided meditation. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq This is the first CD I've used that cuts through my unmedicated ADHD and enables me to truly relax and experience a quiet and energizing interval. The instructors voice is very soothing and pleasant to listen to. I am easily able to sit successfully through the entire CD, and for quite some time after. I cannot adequately express how tremendously helpful this CD has been on my spiritual journey!! Two thumbs up and 10 stars!
You guys continue to inspire young generations to not only want to learn scientific material regarding human nature, but to teach as well and essentially give such 'lollipop moments' to one another as a society. Teaching in a conversational manner, is super inspiring and you guys are definitely the first of the wave for such a naturalistic methodology of pedagogy.
I was asleep with TH-cam playing and I woke up to hear that some people get shaky when fasting and think they need sugar. This is me. This was a little less than 1/2 way into the video. I have never heard to put salt in water. I will try this method. Thank God for waking me up at the perfect time to hear this information and thank you all for making and posting this video. I will go watch from the beginning now.

I can’t count how many times I said the word yoga. I am so fascinated by sleep but I didn’t find much novel about his approach other than his decision to rename yoga poses & mindfulness. Even the 2 inhales-1 exhale was something I was taught by a major NFL trainer in the early 2000’s. Lex, on the other hand, stay awesome & if you’d like to practice the 5000-year old practice of yoga for anxiety relief & performance training, I will gift you 5000 hours of training.
When Andrew speaks about using the top down processing towards overcoming adversity, a given situation that you refuse to let overtake and you say no, not gonna happen, not this time and you hone it. Very profound. 1:55:40
Glad to see Andrew back on the show. You put me on him with his last episode and I’ve been enjoying his own podcast too. You guys are my 2 favorite podcasts atm and they’ve taught me a lot these past few months.
55:30 This might be the main reason why we’re loosing testosterone. It’s because our behaviour and thought patterns is converting our cholesterol into cortisol instead of testosterone. We’re simply too stressed up. It makes sense because we’re not allowing ourselves to be fully immersed in our activities without being distracted. Think of how bad it actually feels when you’re being interrupted by either something else or a thought. That pain and stress is literally our brain telling us that something is wrong. The best help we can do to help our youth to increase their testosterone is simply reduce the external pressure, stress and distractions while they’re doing the work.
yooo I was just making notes from your first interview with Huberman & been following so much on his podcasts, thanks so much for Round 2 Lex! Amazing stuff!

Great interview. It is interesting that there is now a way to communicate science to an audience outside of the journal paywall. Without access to peer reviewed journals, it is difficult to know what direction current research is going. When NIH allowed access to their papers outside of the journal paywall, it opened up a great source of information. Hopefully forums like this can have a similar affect.

Really appreciate you guys cause on my way home I listen and learn and 3rd time
I am listening to this because their soothing voices put me right to sleep!
I know right. I was practically lulled into a meditative state (lol).
Dr Huberman is humble. He is like the story teller Mr Ballen here.
He puts technical information easier to understand than most people who lecture.
Hearing you want to involve the public in your podcasts will be revolutionary here.
Andrew Huberman is going to change a lot of peoples lives, and that's thanks to you Lex. Good Work.
You can tell that Dr. Huberman really loves what he does and is eager to share with the world. These 3 hours went so fast, Thank you.
It seems to bother Lex that humans need to eat and sleep.

This!!!!!
Clearing your head?
I just started doing it from out of nowhere during this winter covid lockdown. Such a great tool. Never realized it was just too much brain noise causing my fogginess. Just go lay down and relax everything for 20 min - half an hour and become completely clear headed, ready to tackle anything.
Same here I started doing power naps (if I manage to go to sleep otherwise I just l lie down) after I've watched Coursera's learning how to learn course a couple of years ago.
Best thing that happened to my mental health.
When i try to do that, one out of two things happens - either i cant relax at all or i just fall asleep.
Thank you!
Me too 😊 7!!!
Me too! 🙋🏼♀️ Go Texans!
I've been resistant to this episode for some reason, but it really helped me appreciate Huberman more and reduced my worry regarding the effects of poor sleep.
so funny same situation here
Okay, 1:54:30 or so..
I've been listening to a lot of talks on psychedelics for quite some time now.. and this is the first time I've heard someone refer to exercise as psychedelic. It absolutely is - it is how I get to my honest place. Glad to hear it confirmed with someone else.
what exercise do you find most psychedelic ?
@Dionysus no specific exercise, not taking about yoga or anything. Just the act of getting fatigued, exhausted, there is something to it.
Lex, I’m not expecting a high level intellectual discussion when you’re doing that kind of running. I’m proud of you for even attempting it-the desire to see what you are capable of is inspiring. Thank you for your work on the podcast and bringing us great guests like Andrew.
It's humble of him to listen to new ideas. Came to Lex after Dr. Huberman's podcast.
The guests lately have been fire 🔥
Fantastic talk. So in tune and down to earth. Lex really makes his guests relax and be themselves.
If I ever see Andrew in a different shirt my brain is going to freak out.
I love how Lex explained the magic of voice-only communication. This is exactly what i feel and I consider some of my online friends as my closest friends unlike people I see on a regualr basis

Started watching professor Huberman's podcasts last month and already I have implemented some techniques and I feel great. Thank you professor Huberman for sharing your knowledge!
There are way too many podcasters whose main function seems to be proving how smart they are. They interrupt their guests to try to show how much they know. It is so welcoming to see someone like Mr. Fridman who asks questions and just listens.
Literally brought me to tears! I could listen to Andrew Huberman talk allllllll day.
It's good to know the knowledge is working out there! I start my day, every day with doctor hooverman an alternate between lex and Dr Andrew. Seriously and have been experiencing what many may call miracles! Thank you both for all that you were doing by helping myself and others!
48:56 I used to run long distance cross country for school in my early teens. How Andrew describes the pattern of inhalation is exactly how I used to control my breathing. The break in inhaling would be marked by the contact of my foot on the floor and the exhale would carry over 2 steps.

Sleep and the phenomenon of dreaming is one of my favorite topics to spend time thinking about.

What is it about dreams that particularly catches you? After hearing Andrews thoughts I'm even more curious about the function and possible utility that could be gained through not just Lucid Dreaming but Dream Control directed by the Dreamer themselves during the dream.
The dopest bromance ever. Just two great minds and big hearts vibing off each other.

Very interesting when he discusses "why we quit" with reference to the experiment of the animal running when altering the visuals to make them think they are not getting anywhere...

During NDEs, psychedelic trips, trances, deep meditation, religious ecstasy, and some dreams we tap into the 'cloud like' realm of universal consciousness. I study non-local consciousness, when we tap into telepathy, experience autoscopy and knowledge in other dimensions outside space/time. My dissertation looks at NDEs through a Vajrayana lens. I love your podcasts and all the conversations. I loved D. Hoffman's talk too. Fiona, (KCL, SOAS, Claremont)
Lex, you have created an amazing podcast. You have the best guests. It's always a pleasure listening to Dr. Huberman talk. One criticism, you NEED to get more sleep. Your conversations are really held back when you're sleep deprived. We can hear it in your voice. Otherwise, great conversations all around.
Glad I’m not the only one noticing this. I can always tell because it’s exactly the way my cadence changes when I’m sleep deprived.
Agree. Lex, you looked kind of washed out in this episode compared to the ones you have made recently I.e. 2023.

I like them both but greatest minds of our generation? I don’t think they would agree lol
These two humans have genuinely changed my life (and Wim Hof). And both of them have the mutual genuine goal of putting valuable information out for free to help the average human be a better person. They both genuinely want to help society and they’re smart enough to realize the way to do it.
I have achieved a greater understanding of human mind and motivation listening to Dr Huberman and Dr Sapolsky than I have from reading several books.

Phenomenal podcast! Thank you so much Lex for bringing Andrew on!
2:20:26 Yes..!. Been sitting here for 2.5 hours and I enjoyed every minute, and it feels great to find gems like these
1:12:20 I've been vegan for 2 years.
You're such a treasure Lex, please don't take spotify money haha
why not bro,
Why does everyone hate on the Spotify deal when it's free to watch?
For those who ask why. Spotify doesn't have comment section for starters. It's huge difference considering type of content.
Fuck spoitify anyways. Its toxic to artists. Fucks up the music industry
Also has regional restrictions, so some people (like me) no longer can watch JRE unless using (and paying for) VPN.

The instructors voice is very soothing and pleasant to listen to. I am easily able to sit successfully through the entire CD, and for quite some time after. I cannot adequately express how tremendously helpful this CD has been on my spiritual journey!! Two thumbs up and 10 stars!
Thanks!

Loved this pod Lex!! Andrew is such a great guest & very intriguing, thank you! I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation per usual.
